The study follows qualitative research methodology through conducting semi structured in- depth interviews with 40 married women. The findings underscore that women’s perceptions on unpaid work are widely diverse and depend on their economic class and employment status. Still a good number of women believe that they are born to do unpaid work and women should not demand any financial benefits in return of their care and domestic work. Besides, there is a few women who strongly support the idea of wage creation for unpaid work, either from state, husband or from both. it has important implications for understanding women&#39;s risks in domestic sphere. This article analyzes the relationship between participation in the labor market and the risk of spousal violence against women by considering employment as a symbolic rather than a purely socioeconomic resource. Economic and social changes cannot be well understood unless we know about the role of women in the households and the impact of these changes on them. Our study shows that rapid changes in gender roles and relations can lead to counterattack including violence against women. The paper describes several coexisting scripts of hegemonic masculinity and their inbuilt tensions and it is visible that the inward-turned wave of violence is commencing from the blocked paths to masculine performance. The article concludes with a focus on the dilemma posed by new opportunities through structural change and the coexistence of cultural lag in the form of traditional norms of femininity. Thus, in intimate relationships, patterns of employment that threaten masculine identity may ultimately result in violence. Utilizing the experiences of women with the activities to end spousal violence documented in this study, I will suggest possible entry points for men’s involvement. it has important implications for understanding women&#39;s risks in domestic sphere. This article analyzes the relationship between participation in the labor market and the risk of spousal violence against women by considering employment as a symbolic rather than a purely socioeconomic resource. Economic and social changes cannot be well understood unless we know about the role of women in the households and the impact of these changes on them. Our study shows that rapid changes in gender roles and relations can lead to counterattack including violence against women. The paper describes several coexisting scripts of hegemonic masculinity and their inbuilt tensions and it is visible that the inward-turned wave of violence is commencing from the blocked paths to masculine performance. The article concludes with a focus on the dilemma posed by new opportunities through structural change and the coexistence of cultural lag in the form of traditional norms of femininity. Thus, in intimate relationships, patterns of employment that threaten masculine identity may ultimately result in violence. Utilizing the experiences of women with the activities to end spousal violence documented in this study, I will suggest possible entry points for men’s involvement.
