Like the summary of the first workshop, this document records a critical milestone for the international atom interferometry community. It documents our concerted efforts to evaluate progress, address emerging challenges, and refine strategic directions for future large-scale atom interferometry projects. Our commitment to collaboration is manifested by the integration of diverse expertise and the coordination of international resources, all aimed at advancing the frontiers of atom interferometry physics and technology, as set out in a Memorandum of Understanding signed by over 50 institutions. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('2412.14960v1-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2412.14960v1-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">&#9651; Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 19 December, 2024; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> December 2024. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">Summary of the second Terrestrial Very-Long-Baseline Atom Interferometry Workshop held at Imperial College London: https://indico.cern.ch/event/1369392/</span> </p> </li> <li class="arxiv-result"> <div class="is-marginless"> <p class="list-title is-inline-block"><a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2201.07789">arXiv:2201.07789</a> <span>&nbsp;[<a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/2201.07789">pdf</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/format/2201.07789">other</a>]&nbsp;</span> </p> <div class="tags is-inline-block"> <span class="tag is-small is-link tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Instrumentation and Methods for Astrophysics">astro-ph.IM</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="General Relativity and Quantum Cosmology">gr-qc</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Physics - Experiment">hep-ex</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Physics - Phenomenology">hep-ph</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Atomic Physics">physics.atom-ph</span> </div> <div class="is-inline-block" style="margin-left: 0.5rem"> <div class="tags has-addons"> <span class="tag is-dark is-size-7">doi</span> <span class="tag is-light is-size-7"><a class="" href="https://doi.org/10.1140/epjqt/s40507-022-00147-w">10.1140/epjqt/s40507-022-00147-w <i class="fa fa-external-link" aria-hidden="true"></i></a></span> </div> </div> </div> <p class="title is-5 mathjax"> Cold Atoms in Space: Community Workshop Summary and Proposed Road-Map </p> <p class="authors"> <span class="search-hit">Authors:</span> <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Alonso%2C+I">Ivan Alonso</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Alpigiani%2C+C">Cristiano Alpigiani</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Altschul%2C+B">Brett Altschul</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Araujo%2C+H">Henrique Araujo</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Arduini%2C+G">Gianluigi Arduini</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Arlt%2C+J">Jan Arlt</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Badurina%2C+L">Leonardo Badurina</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Balaz%2C+A">Antun Balaz</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Bandarupally%2C+S">Satvika Bandarupally</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Barone%2C+B+C+B+M">Barry C Barish Michele Barone</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Barsanti%2C+M">Michele Barsanti</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Bass%2C+S">Steven Bass</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Bassi%2C+A">Angelo Bassi</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Battelier%2C+B">Baptiste Battelier</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Baynham%2C+C+F+A">Charles F. The cold atom technologies discussed include atomic clocks, quantum gravimeters and accelerometers, and atom interferometers. Prospective applications include metrology, geodesy and measurement of terrestrial mass change due to, e.g., climate change, and fundamental science experiments such as tests of the equivalence principle, searches for dark matter, measurements of gravitational waves and tests of quantum mechanics. We review the current status of cold atom technologies and outline the requirements for their space qualification, including the development paths and the corresponding technical milestones, and identifying possible pathfinder missions to pave the way for missions to exploit the full potential of cold atoms in space. Finally, we present a first draft of a possible road-map for achieving these goals, that we propose for discussion by the interested cold atom, Earth Observation, fundamental physics and other prospective scientific user communities, together with ESA and national space and research funding agencies. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('2201.07789v1-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2201.07789v1-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">&#9651; Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 19 January, 2022; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> January 2022. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">Summary of the Community Workshop on Cold Atoms in Space and corresponding Road-map: https://indico.cern.ch/event/1064855/</span> </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Journal ref:</span> EPJ Quantum Technol. 9, 30 (2022) </p> </li> <li class="arxiv-result"> <div class="is-marginless"> <p class="list-title is-inline-block"><a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2109.14938">arXiv:2109.14938</a> <span>&nbsp;[<a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/2109.14938">pdf</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/ps/2109.14938">ps</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/format/2109.14938">other</a>]&nbsp;</span> </p> <div class="tags is-inline-block"> <span class="tag is-small is-link tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Physics - Phenomenology">hep-ph</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Physics - Experiment">hep-ex</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Computational Physics">physics.comp-ph</span> </div> </div> <p class="title is-5 mathjax"> HL-LHC Computing Review Stage-2, Common Software Projects: Event Generators </p> <p class="authors"> <span class="search-hit">Authors:</span> <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=WG%2C+T+H+P+E+G">The HSF Physics Event Generator WG</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=%3A"> :</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Yazgan%2C+E">Efe Yazgan</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=McFayden%2C+J">Josh McFayden</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Valassi%2C+A">Andrea Valassi</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Amoroso%2C+S">Simone Amoroso</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Bothmann%2C+E">Enrico Bothmann</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Buckley%2C+A">Andy Buckley</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Campbell%2C+J">John Campbell</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Chahal%2C+G+S">Gurpreet Singh Chahal</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Childers%2C+T">Taylor Childers</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Corti%2C+G">Gloria Corti</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Frederix%2C+R">Rikkert Frederix</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Frixione%2C+S">Stefano Frixione</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Giuli%2C+F">Francesco Giuli</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Grohsjean%2C+A">Alexander Grohsjean</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Hoeche%2C+S">Stefan Hoeche</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Ilten%2C+P">Phil Ilten</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Krauss%2C+F">Frank Krauss</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Kreps%2C+M">Michal Kreps</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Lange%2C+D">David Lange</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Lonnblad%2C+L">Leif Lonnblad</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Marshall%2C+Z">Zach Marshall</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Mattelaer%2C+O">Olivier Mattelaer</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Mrenna%2C+S">Stephen Mrenna</a> , et al. The challenges are driven by an ambitious physics programme, notably the LHC accelerator upgrade to high-luminosity, HL-LHC, and the corresponding detector upgrades of ATLAS and CMS. In this document we address the issues for software that is used in multiple experiments (usually even more widely than ATLAS and CMS) and maintained by teams of developers who are either not linked to a particular experiment or who contribute to common software within the context of their experiment activity. We also give space to general considerations for future software and projects that tackle upcoming challenges, no matter who writes it, which is an area where community convergence on best practice is extremely useful. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('2008.13636v1-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('2008.13636v1-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">&#9651; Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 31 August, 2020; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> August 2020. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">40 pages contribution to Snowmass 2021</span> </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Report number:</span> HSF-DOC-2020-01 </p> </li> <li class="arxiv-result"> <div class="is-marginless"> <p class="list-title is-inline-block"><a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2004.13687">arXiv:2004.13687</a> <span>&nbsp;[<a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/2004.13687">pdf</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/format/2004.13687">other</a>]&nbsp;</span> </p> <div class="tags is-inline-block"> <span class="tag is-small is-link tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Physics - Phenomenology">hep-ph</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Physics - Experiment">hep-ex</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Computational Physics">physics.comp-ph</span> </div> <div class="is-inline-block" style="margin-left: 0.5rem"> <div class="tags has-addons"> <span class="tag is-dark is-size-7">doi</span> <span class="tag is-light is-size-7"><a class="" href="https://doi.org/10.1007/s41781-021-00055-1">10.1007/s41781-021-00055-1 <i class="fa fa-external-link" aria-hidden="true"></i></a></span> </div> </div> </div> <p class="title is-5 mathjax"> Challenges in Monte Carlo event generator software for High-Luminosity LHC </p> <p class="authors"> <span class="search-hit">Authors:</span> <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=WG%2C+T+H+P+E+G">The HSF Physics Event Generator WG</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=%3A"> :</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Valassi%2C+A">Andrea Valassi</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Yazgan%2C+E">Efe Yazgan</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=McFayden%2C+J">Josh McFayden</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Amoroso%2C+S">Simone Amoroso</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Bendavid%2C+J">Joshua Bendavid</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Buckley%2C+A">Andy Buckley</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Cacciari%2C+M">Matteo Cacciari</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Childers%2C+T">Taylor Childers</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Ciulli%2C+V">Vitaliano Ciulli</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Frederix%2C+R">Rikkert Frederix</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Frixione%2C+S">Stefano Frixione</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Giuli%2C+F">Francesco Giuli</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Grohsjean%2C+A">Alexander Grohsjean</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=G%C3%BCtschow%2C+C">Christian G眉tschow</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=H%C3%B6che%2C+S">Stefan H枚che</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Hopkins%2C+W">Walter Hopkins</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Ilten%2C+P">Philip Ilten</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Konstantinov%2C+D">Dmitri Konstantinov</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Krauss%2C+F">Frank Krauss</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Li%2C+Q">Qiang Li</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=L%C3%B6nnblad%2C+L">Leif L枚nnblad</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Maltoni%2C+F">Fabio Maltoni</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Mangano%2C+M">Michelangelo Mangano</a> , et al. This interdisciplinary experiment, called Atomic Experiment for Dark Matter and Gravity Exploration (AEDGE), will also complement other planned searches for dark matter, and exploit synergies with other gravitational wave detectors. We give examples of the extended range of sensitivity to ultra-light dark matter offered by AEDGE, and how its gravitational-wave measurements could explore the assembly of super-massive black holes, first-order phase transitions in the early universe and cosmic strings. AEDGE will be based upon technologies now being developed for terrestrial experiments using cold atoms, and will benefit from the space experience obtained with, e.g., LISA and cold atom experiments in microgravity. However, in this version (v2) we have welcomed as supporting authors participants in the Workshop on Atomic Experiments for Dark Matter and Gravity Exploration held at CERN: ({\tt https://indico.cern.ch/event/830432/}), as well as other interested scientists, and have incorporated additional material. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('1908.00802v2-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('1908.00802v2-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">&#9651; Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 10 October, 2019; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">v1</span> submitted 2 August, 2019; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> August 2019. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">V2 -- added support authors</span> </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Report number:</span> KCL-PH-TH/2019-65, CERN-TH-2019-126 </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Journal ref:</span> EPJ Quantum Technol. 7, 6 (2020) </p> </li> <li class="arxiv-result"> <div class="is-marginless"> <p class="list-title is-inline-block"><a href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1712.06982">arXiv:1712.06982</a> <span>&nbsp;[<a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/1712.06982">pdf</a>, <a href="https://arxiv.org/format/1712.06982">other</a>]&nbsp;</span> </p> <div class="tags is-inline-block"> <span class="tag is-small is-link tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="Computational Physics">physics.comp-ph</span> <span class="tag is-small is-grey tooltip is-tooltip-top" data-tooltip="High Energy Physics - Experiment">hep-ex</span> </div> <div class="is-inline-block" style="margin-left: 0.5rem"> <div class="tags has-addons"> <span class="tag is-dark is-size-7">doi</span> <span class="tag is-light is-size-7"><a class="" href="https://doi.org/10.1007/s41781-018-0018-8">10.1007/s41781-018-0018-8 <i class="fa fa-external-link" aria-hidden="true"></i></a></span> </div> </div> </div> <p class="title is-5 mathjax"> A Roadmap for HEP Software and Computing R&amp;D for the 2020s </p> <p class="authors"> <span class="search-hit">Authors:</span> <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Albrecht%2C+J">Johannes Albrecht</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Alves%2C+A+A">Antonio Augusto Alves Jr</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Amadio%2C+G">Guilherme Amadio</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Andronico%2C+G">Giuseppe Andronico</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Anh-Ky%2C+N">Nguyen Anh-Ky</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Aphecetche%2C+L">Laurent Aphecetche</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Apostolakis%2C+J">John Apostolakis</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Asai%2C+M">Makoto Asai</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Atzori%2C+L">Luca Atzori</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Babik%2C+M">Marian Babik</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Bagliesi%2C+G">Giuseppe Bagliesi</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Bandieramonte%2C+M">Marilena Bandieramonte</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Banerjee%2C+S">Sunanda Banerjee</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Barisits%2C+M">Martin Barisits</a>, <a href="/search/physics?searchtype=author&amp;query=Bauerdick%2C+L+A+T">Lothar A. Similarly, it requires commensurate investment in the R&amp;D of software to acquire, manage, process, and analyse the shear amounts of data to be recorded. In planning for the HL-LHC in particular, it is critical that all of the collaborating stakeholders agree on the software goals and priorities, and that the efforts complement each other. This note presents results of the RPC detector uniformity and stability during the 2011 data taking period, and preliminary results obtained with 2012 data. The detector uniformity has been ensured with a dedicated High Voltage scan with LHC collisions, in order to determine the optimal operating working voltage of each individual RPC chamber installed in CMS. Emphasis is given on the procedures and results of the High Voltage calibration. Moreover, an increased detector stability has been obtained by automatically taking into account temperature and atmospheric pressure variations in the CMS cavern. <a class="is-size-7" style="white-space: nowrap;" onclick="document.getElementById('1209.1989v1-abstract-full').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('1209.1989v1-abstract-short').style.display = 'inline';">&#9651; Less</a> </span> </p> <p class="is-size-7"><span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Submitted</span> 10 September, 2012; <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">originally announced</span> September 2012. </p> <p class="comments is-size-7"> <span class="has-text-black-bis has-text-weight-semibold">Comments:</span> <span class="has-text-grey-dark mathjax">Plenary talk presented at RPC2012.
