he is to sell<MH4376> to you according to the number<MH4557> of years<MH8141> of crops<MH8393>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/25-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>In proportion<MH6310> to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>a greater<MH7230> number<MH7230> of years<MH8141> you shall increase<MH7235a> its price<MH4736>, and in proportion<MH6310> to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>fewer<MH4591> years<MH8141> you shall decrease<MH4591> its price<MH4736>, because <i>it is</i> the number<MH4557> of crops<MH8393> <i>that</i> he is selling<MH4376> to you. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/25-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>So you shall not <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>wrong<MH3238> one<MH376> another<MH5997>, but you shall <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>fear<MH3372a> your God<MH430>; for I am the LORD<MH3068> your God<MH430>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/25-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>&#8216;You shall therefore <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>follow<MH6213a> My statutes<MH2708> and keep<MH8104> My judgments<MH4941> so as to carry<MH6213a> them out<MH6213a>, so that you may live<MH3427> securely<MH983> on the land<MH776>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/25-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>Then the land<MH776> will yield<MH5414> its produce<MH6529>, so that you can eat<MH398> your fill<MH7648> and live<MH3427> securely<MH983> on it. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/25-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>But if<MH3588> you say<MH559>, &#8220;What<MH4100> are we going to eat<MH398> in the seventh<MH7637> year<MH8141> if<MH2005> we do not sow<MH2232> nor gather<MH622> in<MH622> our produce<MH8393>?&#8221; <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/25-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>then I will so order<MH6680> My blessing<MH1293> for you in the sixth<MH8345> year<MH8141> that it will bring<MH6213a> forth<MH6213a> the produce<MH8393> for three<MH7969> years<MH8141>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/25-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>When you are sowing<MH2232> the eighth<MH8066> year<MH8141>, you can still eat<MH398> old<MH3465> things<MH3465> from the produce<MH8393>, eating<MH398> <i>the old</i> until<MH5704> the ninth<MH8671> year<MH8141> when<MH5704> its produce<MH8393> comes<MH935> in<MH935>. <p class="hdg">The Law of Redemption</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/25-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>&#8216;The land<MH776>, moreover, shall not be sold<MH4376> permanently<MH6783>, because<MH3588> the land<MH776> is Mine; for you are <i>only</i> strangers<MH1616> and residents<MH8453> with Me. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/25-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>So for every<MH3605> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>piece<MH776> of your property<MH272>, you are to provide<MH5414> for the redemption<MH1353> of the land<MH776>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/25-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>&#8216;If<MH3588> a fellow<MH251> countryman<MH251> of yours becomes<MH4134> so poor<MH4134> that he sells<MH4376> part of his property<MH272>, then his closest<MH7138> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>redeemer<MH1350> is to come<MH935> and buy<MH1350> back<MH1350> what<MH4465> his relative<MH251> has sold<MH4465>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/25-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>Or in<MH3588> case<MH3588> someone<MH376> has<MH1961> no<MH3808> redeemer<MH1350>, but <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>recovers<MH3027, 5381> to find<MH4672> sufficient<MH1767> means<MH1767> for its redemption<MH1353>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/25-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>then he shall calculate<MH2803> the years<MH8141> since its sale<MH4465> and refund<MH7725> the balance<MH5736> to the man<MH376> to whom<MH834> he sold<MH4376> it, and so return<MH7725> to his property<MH272>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/25-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>But if<MH518> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>he has not found<MH4672> sufficient<MH1767> means<MH3027> to get<MH7725> it back<MH7725> for himself, then what<MH4465> he has sold<MH4465> shall remain<MH1961> in the hands<MH3027> of its purchaser<MH7069> until<MH5704> the year<MH8141> of jubilee<MH3104>; but at the jubilee<MH3104> it shall <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>revert<MH3318>, so that he may return<MH7725> to his property<MH272>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/25-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>&#8216;Likewise, if<MH3588> a man<MH376> sells<MH4376> a dwelling<MH4186> house<MH1004> in a walled<MH2346> city<MH5892b>, then his redemption<MH1353> right<MH1353> remains<MH1961> <i>valid</i> until<MH5704> a full<MH8552> year<MH8141> after<MH4480> its sale<MH4465>; his right<MH1353> of<MH1353> redemption<MH1353> lasts<MH1961> a full<MH3117> year<MH3117>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/25-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>But if<MH518> it is not bought<MH1350> back<MH1350> for him within<MH5704> the space<MH4390> of a full<MH8549> year<MH8141>, then the house<MH1004> that is in the walled<MH2346> city<MH5892b> passes<MH6965> permanently<MH6783> to its purchaser<MH7069> throughout his generations<MH1755>; it does not <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>revert<MH3318> in the jubilee<MH3104>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/25-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>The houses<MH1004> of the villages<MH2691b>, however, which<MH834> have<MH369> no<MH369> surrounding<MH5439> wall<MH2346>, shall be regarded<MH2803> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[s]</a></span>as open<MH776> fields<MH7704>; they have<MH1961> redemption<MH1353> rights<MH1353> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[t]</a></span>revert<MH3318> in the jubilee<MH3104>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/25-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>As for the cities<MH5892b> of the Levites<MH3881>, the Levites<MH3881> have<MH1961> a permanent<MH5769> right<MH1353> of<MH1353> redemption<MH1353> for the houses<MH1004> of the cities<MH5892b> which are their possession<MH272>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/25-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>What<MH834>, therefore, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[u]</a></span>belongs<MH4480> to the Levites<MH3881> may be redeemed<MH1350>, and a house<MH1004> sale<MH4465> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[v]</a></span>in the city<MH5892b> of this possession<MH272> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[w]</a></span>reverts<MH3318> in the jubilee<MH3104>, because<MH3588> the houses<MH1004> of the cities<MH5892b> of the Levites<MH3881> are their possession<MH272> among<MH8432> the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/25-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>But pasture<MH4054> fields<MH7704> of their cities<MH5892b> shall not be sold<MH4376>, for that is their permanent<MH5769> possession<MH272>. <p class="hdg">Of Poor Countrymen</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/25-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>&#8216;Now in<MH3588> case<MH3588> a countryman<MH251> of yours becomes<MH4134> poor<MH4134> and his <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[x]</a></span>means<MH3027> among<MH5973> you falter<MH4131>, then you are to sustain<MH2388> him, <i>like</i> a stranger<MH1616> or a resident<MH8453>, so that he may live<MH2421a> with you. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/25-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>Do not take<MH3947> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[y]</a></span><i>any kind of</i> interest<MH5392, 8636> from him, but <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[z]</a></span>fear<MH3372a> your God<MH430>, so that your countryman<MH251> may live<MH2421a> with you. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/25-37.htm"><b>37</b></a></span>You shall not give<MH5414> him your silver<MH3701> at interest<MH5392>, nor<MH3808> your food<MH400> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[aa]</a></span>for profit<MH4768>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/25-38.htm"><b>38</b></a></span>I am the LORD<MH3068> your God<MH430>, who<MH834> brought<MH3318> you out<MH3318> of the land<MH776> of Egypt<MH4714> to give<MH5414> you the land<MH776> of Canaan<MH3667a>, <i>and</i> to be your God<MH430>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/25-39.htm"><b>39</b></a></span>&#8216;Now if<MH3588> a countryman<MH251> of yours becomes<MH4134> so poor<MH4134> with<MH5973> regard<MH5973> to<MH5973> you that he sells<MH4376> himself to you, you shall not subject<MH5647> him to a slave&#8217;s<MH5650> service<MH5656>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/25-40.htm"><b>40</b></a></span>He shall be with you as a hired<MH7916> worker<MH7916>, as <i>if he were</i> a foreign<MH8453> resident<MH8453>; they are not to be sold<MH4376> <i>in</i> a slave<MH5650> sale<MH4466>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/25-43.htm"><b>43</b></a></span>You shall not rule<MH7287a> over him with <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[ab]</a></span>severity<MH6531>, but are to revere<MH3372a> your God<MH430>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/25-44.htm"><b>44</b></a></span>As for your male<MH5650> and female<MH519> slaves<MH519, 5650> whom<MH834> you may have<MH1961>&#8212;you may acquire<MH7069> male<MH5650> and female<MH519> slaves<MH519, 5650> from the <i>pagan</i> nations<MH1471> that are around<MH5439> you. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/25-45.htm"><b>45</b></a></span>You may also<MH1571> acquire<MH7069> <i>them</i> from the sons<MH1121> of the foreign<MH8453> residents<MH8453> who reside<MH1481a> among<MH5973> you, and from their families<MH4940> who<MH834> are with you, whom<MH834> they will have produced<MH3205> in your land<MH776>; they also may become<MH1961> your possession<MH272>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/25-46.htm"><b>46</b></a></span>You may also pass<MH5157> them on<MH5157> as<MH5157> an<MH5157> inheritance<MH5157> to your sons<MH1121> after<MH310> you, to receive<MH3423> as a possession<MH272>; you can use<MH5647> them as<MH5647> permanent<MH5769> slaves<MH5647>. But in respect to your countrymen<MH251>, the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>, you shall not rule<MH7287a> with <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[ac]</a></span>severity<MH6531> over one<MH376> another<MH251>. <p class="hdg">Of Redeeming a Person Who Is Poor</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/25-47.htm"><b>47</b></a></span>&#8216;Now if<MH3588> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[ad]</a></span>means<MH3027> of a stranger<MH1616> or of a foreign<MH8453> resident<MH8453> with you becomes<MH5381> sufficient<MH5381>, and a countryman<MH251> of yours becomes<MH4134> poor<MH4134> in<MH5973> relation<MH5973> to<MH5973> him and sells<MH4376> himself to a stranger<MH1616> who<MH8453> is<MH8453> residing<MH8453> with you, or<MH176> to the descendants<MH6133> of a stranger&#8217;s<MH1616> family<MH4940>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/25-48.htm"><b>48</b></a></span>then he shall have<MH1961> redemption<MH1353> right<MH1353> after<MH310> he has been sold<MH4376>. One<MH259> of his brothers<MH251> may redeem<MH1350> him, <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/25-49.htm"><b>49</b></a></span>or<MH176> his uncle<MH1730>, or<MH176> his uncle&#8217;s<MH1730> son<MH1121> may redeem<MH1350> him, or<MH176> one of his blood<MH7607> relatives<MH7607, 1320> from his family<MH4940> may redeem<MH1350> him; or<MH176> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[ae]</a></span>if he prospers<MH5381>, he may redeem<MH1350> himself. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/25-50.htm"><b>50</b></a></span>He then, with his purchaser<MH7069>, shall calculate<MH2803> from the year<MH8141> when he sold<MH4376> himself to him up to the year<MH8141> of jubilee<MH3104>; and the price<MH3701> of his sale<MH4465> shall correspond<MH1961> to the number<MH4557> of years<MH8141> <i>calculated. It is</i> like the days<MH3117> of a hired<MH7916> worker<MH7916> <i>that</i> he will be with him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/25-51.htm"><b>51</b></a></span>If<MH518> there are still<MH5750> many<MH7227a> years<MH8141> <i>remaining,</i> he shall refund<MH7725> part of his purchase<MH4736> price<MH3701> in proportion<MH6310> to them for his own redemption<MH1353>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/leviticus/25-52.htm"><b>52</b></a></span>but if<MH518> few<MH4592> years<MH8141> remain<MH7604> until<MH5704> the year<MH8141> of jubilee<MH3104>, he shall so calculate<MH2803> with him.
