Based on proposals by the <a class="tagLink" href="/issues/listIssues?tags=90">United States</a> and <a class="tagLink" href="/issues/listIssues?tags=87">France</a>, the resolution called for an immediate ceasefire in the <a class="issue" href="/issues/issue/240">2006 Lebanon War</a> between Israel and <a class="tagLink" href="/issues/listIssues?tags=97">Hezbollah</a>. Additionally, it called for a full Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon, alongside the deployment of <a class="tagLink" href="/issues/listIssues?tags=104">UNIFIL</a> and <a class="tagLink" href="/issues/listIssues?tags=105">Lebanese Army</a> forces in <a class="tagLink" href="/issues/listIssues?tags=103">southern Lebanon</a>, with Hezbollah withdrawing north of the Litani River. It also emphasized the importance of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Lebanon.
