src="https://web.archive.org/web/20111211013110im_/http://www.smartgrids.eu/documents/projects/moremicrogrids.gif"/></a></p> <p align="justify"> The interconnection of small, modular generation sources to low voltage distribution systems can form a new type of power system, the <strong><font color="#c93e1f">MicroGrid</font></strong>. MicroGrids can be connected to the main power network or be operated autonomously, if they are isolated from the power grid, in a similar manner to the power systems of physical islands.
