Acacia wood, known for its durability and resistance to decay, symbolizes the incorruptible humanity of Christ. This wood was commonly found in the Sinai region, making it a practical choice for the Israelites. The use of acacia wood in the construction of sacred objects highlights the importance of using the best materials for worship.
two cubits long, a cubit wide, and a cubit and a half high
The dimensions of the table are specific, indicating the importance of order and precision in worship. A cubit is approximately 18 inches, making the table about 3 feet long, 1.5 feet wide, and 2.25 feet high. These measurements reflect the table's purpose and function within the Tabernacle. The table's size was sufficient to hold the twelve loaves of showbread, representing the twelve tribes of Israel, and symbolizing God's provision and fellowship with His people. The precise dimensions also underscore the idea that God is a God of order, and everything in His service should be done according to His instructions.
Persons / Places / Events
1. Moses
The leader of the Israelites who received the instructions for the Tabernacle from God on Mount Sinai.

2. Israelites
The people of God who were delivered from Egypt and were in the wilderness at the time of these instructions.

3. Tabernacle
The portable dwelling place for the presence of God among His people, where the table was to be placed.

4. Acacia Wood
A durable and resistant wood used in the construction of the Tabernacle's furnishings, symbolizing incorruptibility and strength.

5. Table of Showbread
A sacred table in the Tabernacle where the bread of the Presence was placed, symbolizing God's provision and fellowship with His people.
Teaching Points
Obedience to God's Instructions
The precise measurements and materials for the table highlight the importance of following God's commands with exactness and reverence.

Symbolism of Provision
The table of showbread represents God's provision and His desire to fellowship with His people, reminding us of His faithfulness.

Christ as the Fulfillment
The table points forward to Christ, who is our spiritual sustenance and the fulfillment of God's promises.

Holiness in Worship
The construction and use of the table in the Tabernacle remind us of the holiness required in our worship and approach to God.

Community and Fellowship
The table signifies the communal aspect of worship, encouraging believers to gather and share in God's presence and provision.
Lists and Questions
Top 10 Lessons from Exodus 25

Exodus 25:23 – Why do later biblical accounts give no clear record of the table for the Bread of the Presence, suggesting a potential inconsistency or loss in Israel’s history?

What defines acacia wood?

What is the Ark of the Covenant?

What events occur in the biblical book of Exodus?
Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers
THE TABLE OF SHEWBREAD.
(23-30) Thou shalt also make a table.--The ark and mercy seat, which covered it, constituted the entire furniture of the inner sanctuary, or "Holy of Holies" (Exodus 40:20-21).
