The painter had to adapt to various political and social ruptures: from royalty to the French Revolution, from the empire of Napoleon Bonaparte to the empire of King John VI. According to the method of analysis that involves the idea of "political iconography" from Carlo Ginzburg and the concept of "representation" associated with Georges Didi-Huberman, this work wishes to insert Taunay in its context through the analysis of his portrait made by a colleague of the profession and of a Brazilian landscape painted of his own (1816-1821) and, in which he represented himself. Finally, the intention is to find in these two paintings how Nicolas-Antoine Taunay faced himself and in the middle that surrounded him in the traffic that was forced to make it between Paris and Rio de Janeiro. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nicolas-Antoine%20Taunay" title="Nicolas-Antoine Taunay">Nicolas-Antoine Taunay</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=politic%20iconography" title=" politic iconography"> politic iconography</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=French%20art" title=" French art"> French art</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Brazilian%20art" title=" Brazilian art"> Brazilian art</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=19th%20century" title=" 19th century"> 19th century</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/149733/polytic-iconography-the-sky-and-pants-of-nicolas-antoine-taunay-1755-1830" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/149733.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">94</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">116</span> A Morphological Thinking Approach for Conceptualising Product-Service Systems Solutions</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nicolas%20Haber">Nicolas Haber</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The study addresses the conceptual design of Product-Service Systems (PSSs) as a means of innovating solutions with the aim of reducing the environmental load of conventional product based solutions. Functional approaches targeting PSS solutions are developed in instinctive methods within the constraints of the setting in which they are conceived. Adopting morphological matrices in designing PSS concepts allows a thorough understanding of the settings, stakeholders, and functional requirements. Additionally, such a methodology is robust and adaptable to product-oriented, use-oriented and result-oriented systems. The research is based on a functional decomposition of the task in a similar way as in product design; while extended to include service components, providers, and receivers, while assessing the adaptability and homogeneity of the selected components and actors. A use-oriented concept is presented via a practical case study at an agricultural boom-sprayer manufacturer to demonstrate the effectiveness of the morphological approach to justify its viability. Additionally, a life cycle analysis is carried out in order to evaluate the environmental advantages inherited in a PSS solution versus a conventional solution. In light of the applications presented, the morphological approach appears to be a valid and generic tactic to conceiving integrated solutions whilst capturing the interrelations between the actors and elements of an integrated product-service system. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=conceptual%20design" title="conceptual design">conceptual design</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=design%20for%20sustainability" title=" design for sustainability"> design for sustainability</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=functional%20decomposition" title=" functional decomposition"> functional decomposition</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=product-service%20systems" title=" product-service systems"> product-service systems</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/58407/a-morphological-thinking-approach-for-conceptualising-product-service-systems-solutions" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/58407.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">264</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">115</span> The Functional-Engineered Product-Service System Model: An Extensive Review towards a Unified Approach</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nicolas%20Haber">Nicolas Haber</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The study addresses the design process of integrated product-service offerings as a measure of answering environmental sustainability concerns by replacing stand-alone physical artefacts with comprehensive solutions relying on functional results rather than conventional product sales. However, views regarding this transformation are dissimilar and differentiated: The study discusses the importance and requirements of product-service systems before analysing the theoretical studies accomplished in the extent of their design and development processes. Based on this, a framework, built on a design science approach, is proposed, where the distinct approaches from the literature are merged towards a unified structure serving as a generic methodology to designing product-service systems. Each stage of this model is then developed to present a holistic design proposal called the Functional Engineered Product-Service System (FEPSS) model. Product-service systems are portrayed as customisable solutions tailored to specific settings and defined circumstances. Moreover, the approaches adopted to guide the design process are diversified. A thorough analysis of the design strategies and development processes however, allowed the extraction of a design backbone, valid to varied situations and contexts whether they are product-oriented, use-oriented or result-oriented. The goal is to guide manufacturers towards an eased adoption of these integrated offerings, given their inherited environmental benefits, by proposing a robust all-purpose design process. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=functional%20product" title="functional product">functional product</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=integrated%20product-service%20offerings" title=" integrated product-service offerings"> integrated product-service offerings</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=product-service%20systems" title=" product-service systems"> product-service systems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sustainable%20design" title=" sustainable design"> sustainable design</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/58351/the-functional-engineered-product-service-system-model-an-extensive-review-towards-a-unified-approach" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/58351.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">293</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">114</span> Adherence Induced Formwork Removal in Small-Scale Pull-Off Tensile Tests</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nicolas%20Spitz">Nicolas Spitz</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nicolas%20Coniglio"> Nicolas Coniglio</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamed%20El%20Mansori"> Mohamed El Mansori</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alex%20Montagne"> Alex Montagne</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sabeur%20Mezghani"> Sabeur Mezghani</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Nowadays buildings' construction is performed by pouring concrete into molds referred to as formworks that are usually prefabricated metallic modules. Defects such as stripping may possibly form during the removal of the formwork if the interfacial bonding between the concrete and the formwork is high. A new pull-off tensile test was developed in our laboratory to simulate small-scale formwork removals. The concrete-to-formwork adherence force was measured on bare and coated formworks with different surface signatures. The used concrete was a mixture largely used on building sites and contains CEM I Portland cement and calcareous filler. The concrete surface appearance and the type of failures at the concrete-formwork interface have been investigated. The originality of this near-to-surface test was to compare the laboratory-measured adherence forces to the on-site observations. Based upon the small-scale laboratory test results, functional formwork specifications with low adherence to concrete was proposed in terms of superficial signature characteristics. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=concrete-formwork%20adherence" title="concrete-formwork adherence">concrete-formwork adherence</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=interfacial%20bonding" title=" interfacial bonding"> interfacial bonding</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=skin%20formwork%20functionality" title=" skin formwork functionality"> skin formwork functionality</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=small-scale%20pull-off%20tensile%20test" title=" small-scale pull-off tensile test"> small-scale pull-off tensile test</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/81360/adherence-induced-formwork-removal-in-small-scale-pull-off-tensile-tests" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/81360.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">246</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">113</span> The Highly Dispersed WO3-x Photocatalyst over the Confinement Effect of Mesoporous SBA-15 Molecular Sieves for Photocatalytic Nitrogen Reduction</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Xiaoling%20Ren">Xiaoling Ren</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Guidong%20Yang"> Guidong Yang</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> As one of the largest industrial synthetic chemicals in the world, ammonia has the advantages of high energy density, easy liquefaction, and easy transportation, which is widely used in agriculture, chemical industry, energy storage, and other fields. The industrial Haber-Bosch method process for ammonia synthesis is generally conducted under severe conditions. It is essential to develop a green, sustainable strategy for ammonia production to meet the growing demand. In this direction, photocatalytic nitrogen reduction has huge advantages over the traditional, well-established Haber-Bosch process, such as the utilization of natural sun light as the energy source and significantly lower pressure and temperature to affect the reaction process. However, the high activation energy of nitrogen and the low efficiency of photo-generated electron-hole separation in the photocatalyst result in low ammonia production yield. Many researchers focus on improving the catalyst. In addition to modifying the catalyst, improving the dispersion of the catalyst and making full use of active sites are also means to improve the overall catalytic activity. Few studies have been carried out on this, which is the aim of this work. In this work, by making full use of the nitrogen activation ability of WO3-x with defective sites, small size WO3-x photocatalyst with high dispersibility was constructed, while the growth of WO3-x was restricted by using a high specific surface area mesoporous SBA-15 molecular sieve with the regular pore structure as a template. The morphology of pure SBA-15 and WO3-x/SBA-15 was characterized byscanning electron microscopy (SEM). Compared with pure SBA-15, some small particles can be found in the WO3-x/SBA-15 material, which means that WO3-x grows into small particles under the limitation of SBA-15, which is conducive to the exposure of catalytically active sites. To elucidate the chemical nature of the material, the X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis was conducted. The observed diffraction pattern inWO3-xis in good agreement with that of the JCPDS file no.71-2450. Compared with WO3-x, no new peaks appeared in WO3-x/SBA-15.It can be concluded that WO3-x/SBA-15 was synthesized successfully. In order to provide more active sites, the mass content of WO3-x was optimized. Then the photocatalytic nitrogen reduction performances of above samples were performed with methanol as a hole scavenger. The results show that the overall ammonia production performance of WO3-x/SBA-15 is improved than pure bulk WO3-x. The above results prove that making full use of active sites is also a means to improve overall catalytic activity. This work provides material basis for the design of high-efficiency photocatalytic nitrogen reduction catalysts. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ammonia" title="ammonia">ammonia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=photocatalytic" title=" photocatalytic"> photocatalytic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nitrogen%20reduction" title=" nitrogen reduction"> nitrogen reduction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=WO3-x" title=" WO3-x"> WO3-x</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=high%20dispersibility" title=" high dispersibility"> high dispersibility</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/143936/the-highly-dispersed-wo3-x-photocatalyst-over-the-confinement-effect-of-mesoporous-sba-15-molecular-sieves-for-photocatalytic-nitrogen-reduction" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/143936.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">159</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">112</span> Iron Doping Enhanced Photocatalytic Nitrogen Fixation Performance of WO₃ with Three-Dimensionally Orderd Macroporous Structure</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Xiaoling%20Ren">Xiaoling Ren</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Guidong%20Yang"> Guidong Yang</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Ammonia, as one of the largest-volume industrial chemicals, is mostly produced by century-old Haber-Bosch process with extreme conditionsand high-cost. Under the circumstance, researchersarededicated in finding new ways to replace the Haber-Bosch process. Photocatalytic nitrogen fixation is a promising sustainable, clear and green strategy for ammonia synthesis, butit is still a big challenge due to the high activation energy for nitrogen. It is essential to develop an efficient photocatalyst for making this approach industrial application. Constructing chemisorption active sites through defect engineering can be defined as an effective and reliable means to improve nitrogen activation by forming the extraordinary coordination environment and electronic structure. Besides, the construction of three-dimensionally orderdmacroporous (3DOM) structured photocatalyst is considered to be one of effectivestrategiesto improve the activity due to it canincrease the diffusion rate of reactants in the interior, which isbeneficial to the mass transfer process of nitrogen molecules in photocatalytic nitrogen reduction. Herein, Fe doped 3DOM WO₃(Fe-3DOM WO₃) without noble metal cocatalysts is synthesized by a polystyrene-template strategy, which is firstly used for photocatalytic nitrogen fixation. To elucidate the chemical nature of the dopant, the X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysiswas conducted. The pure 3DOM WO₃ has a monoclinic type crystal structure. And no additional peak is observed in Fe doped 3DOM WO₃, indicating that the incorporation of Fe atoms did not result in a secondary phase formation. In order to confirm the morphologies of Fe-3DOM WO₃and 3DOM WO₃, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was employed. The synthesized Fe-3DOM WO₃and 3DOM WO₃ both exhibit a highly ordered three dimensional inverse opal structure with interconnected pores. From high-resolution TEM image of Fe-3DOM WO₃, the ordered lattice fringes with a spacing of 3.84 Å can be assigned to the (001) plane of WO₃, which is consistent with the XRD results. Finally, the photocatalytic nitrogen reduction performance of 3DOM WO₃ and Fe doped 3DOM WO₃with various Fe contents were examined. As a result, both Fe-3DOM WO₃ samples achieve higher ammonia production rate than that of pure 3DOM WO₃, indicating that the doped Fe plays a critical role in the photocatalytic nitrogen fixation performance. To verify the reaction process upon N2 reduction on the Fe-3DOM WO₃, in-situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier-transform spectroscopy was employed to monitor the intermediates. The in-situ DRIFTS spectra of Fe-3DOM WO₃ exhibit the increased signals with the irradiation time from 0–60min in the N2 atmosphere. The above results prove that nitrogen is gradually hydrogenated to produce ammonia over Fe-3DOM WO₃. Thiswork would enrich our knowledge in designing efficient photocatalystsfor photocatalytic nitrogen reduction. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ammonia" title="ammonia">ammonia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=photocatalytic" title=" photocatalytic"> photocatalytic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nitrogen%20fixation" title=" nitrogen fixation"> nitrogen fixation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fe%20doped%203DOM%20WO%E2%82%83" title=" Fe doped 3DOM WO₃"> Fe doped 3DOM WO₃</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/143923/iron-doping-enhanced-photocatalytic-nitrogen-fixation-performance-of-wo3-with-three-dimensionally-orderd-macroporous-structure" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/143923.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">171</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">111</span> Thermal Modelling and Experimental Comparison for a Moving Pantograph Strip</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nicolas%20Delcey">Nicolas Delcey</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Philippe%20Baucour"> Philippe Baucour</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Didier%20Chamagne"> Didier Chamagne</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Genevi%C3%A8ve%20Wimmer"> Geneviève Wimmer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Auditeau%20G%C3%A9rard"> Auditeau Gérard</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bausseron%20Thomas"> Bausseron Thomas</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bouger%20Odile"> Bouger Odile</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Blanvillain%20G%C3%A9rard"> Blanvillain Gérard</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper proposes a thermal study of the catenary/pantograph interface for a train in motion. However, the NOR process suffers from the limitation of high N≡N bonding energy (941 kJ mol− ¹), sluggish kinetics, low efficiency and yield. It is a prerequisite to develop more efficient electrocatalysts for NOR. Herein, we synthesized double-shelled CeO₂ hollow spheres (D-CeO₂) and further modified with Ti₃C₂ MXene quantum dots (MQDs) for electrocatalytic N₂ oxidation, which exhibited a NO₃− yield of 71.25 μg h− ¹ mgcat− ¹ and FE of 31.80% at 1.7 V. The unique quantum size effect and abundant edge active sites lead to a more effective capture of nitrogen. Moreover, the double-shelled hollow structure is favorable for N₂ fixation and gathers intermediate products in the interlayer of the core-shell. The in-situ infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy confirmed the formation of *NO and NO₃− species during the NOR reaction, and the kinetics and possible pathways of NOR were calculated by density functional theory (DFT). In addition, a Zn-N₂ reaction device was assembled with D-CeO₂/MQDs as anode and Zn plate as cathode, obtaining an extremely high NO₃− yield of 104.57 μg h− ¹ mgcat− ¹ at 1 mA cm− ². <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electrocatalytic%20N%E2%82%82%20oxidation" title="electrocatalytic N₂ oxidation">electrocatalytic N₂ oxidation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nitrate%20production" title=" nitrate production"> nitrate production</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=CeO%E2%82%82" title=" CeO₂"> CeO₂</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=MXene%20quantum%20dots" title=" MXene quantum dots"> MXene quantum dots</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=double-shelled%20hollow%20spheres" title=" double-shelled hollow spheres"> double-shelled hollow spheres</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/185272/mxene-quantum-dots-decorated-double-shelled-ceo2-hollow-spheres-for-efficient-electrocatalytic-nitrogen-oxidation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/185272.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">70</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">108</span> Ideological Framing in Television News: The Case of “Settlement Process”</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mete%20Kazaz">Mete Kazaz</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Birol%20G%C3%BClnar"> Birol Gülnar</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Television news has gained a new dimension in terms of ideological approaches as a result of such factors as globalization, cross monopolization, presence of international companies etc. and certain strategies have been developed at the production, presentation and distribution stages of news. In this study, television news about a process called “settlement process” was investigated. In this framework, news about the settlement process on TV channels of TRT 1, ATV, FOX TV, NTV, HABERTÜRK, TRT HABER and STV was investigated using the content analysis method in terms of the strategies the ideology construction, attitude towards the party in power, attitude towards parties in opposition and attitude towards BDP (Peace and Democracy Part) and Imrali (the island where Abdullah Ocalan, head of PKK, is kept). First, the aforementioned TV channels were selected randomly from 3 groups in order to be able to reveal the representational capacity of commercial, news and public channels. The study covers 557 news items broadcast in the main news bulletins between the dates of 15 March 2013 and 15 March 2013. While there was a positive attitude towards the government in a sizable portion of the news about the settlement process (63.6%), the attitude of 25.3% of the news was impartial towards the government and 11.3% had a negative attitude. On the other hand, there was a negative attitude towards the Opposition in a considerable portion of the news about the settlement process (56.1%). The attitude of 35.9% of the news towards the Opposition was impartial whereas 8.0% had a positive attitude. While 34.9% of the news about the settlement process used the legitimization strategy from among the ideology construction strategies, 22.8% used the unification strategy, 15.7% the reification strategy, 15.6% fractional and 11% concealment/mystification strategy. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=attitude" title="attitude">attitude</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ideological%20framing" title=" ideological framing"> ideological framing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=television%20news" title=" television news"> television news</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=social%20sciences" title=" social sciences"> social sciences</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/7419/ideological-framing-in-television-news-the-case-of-settlement-process" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/7419.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">353</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">107</span> The Analyses of July 15 Coup Attempt through the Turkish Press</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yasemin%20G%C3%BCl%C5%9Fen%20Y%C4%B1lmaz">Yasemin Gülşen Yılmaz</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=S%C3%BCleyman%20Hakan%20Y%C4%B1lmaz"> Süleyman Hakan Yılmaz</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammet%20Erbay"> Muhammet Erbay</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Military interventions have an important place in the Turkish Political History. Military interventions are commonly called coup in the society. By coup we mean that the armed forces seize political power either by a group of officer in the army or by chain of command. Coups not only weaken but also suspend the democracy in a country. All periods of coup created its own victims. Two military coups which took place in May 27, 1960 and September 12, 1980 are the most important ones in terms of political and social effect in the Turkish Political History. Apart these, March 12, 1971, February 28, 1997 and April 27, 2007 e-memorandum are the periods when Army submitted a memorandum and intervened the political government indirectly. Beside the memorandums and coups there were also many coup attempts that have been experienced in the Turkish Political History. In this study, we examined the coup attempted by FETO&rsquo;s military members in the evening of July 15, 2016 from the point of the Turkish Press. Cumhuriyet, Haber T&uuml;rk, H&uuml;rriyet, Milliyet, Sabah, Star, Yeni Akit and Yeni Şafak Newspapers which have different publication policies were examined within the scope of the study. The first pages of the newspapers dated July 16, 2016 were examined using content analysis method. The headlines, news, news headlines and the visual materials used for news were examined and the collected data were analysed. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=July%2015" title="July 15">July 15</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=news" title=" news"> news</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=military%20coup" title=" military coup"> military coup</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=press" title=" press"> press</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/59330/the-analyses-of-july-15-coup-attempt-through-the-turkish-press" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/59330.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">261</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">106</span> Defining a Reference Architecture for Predictive Maintenance Systems: A Case Study Using the Microsoft Azure IoT-Cloud Components</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Walter%20Bernhofer">Walter Bernhofer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Peter%20Haber"> Peter Haber</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tobias%20Mayer"> Tobias Mayer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Manfred%20Mayr"> Manfred Mayr</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Markus%20Ziegler"> Markus Ziegler</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Current preventive maintenance measures are cost intensive and not efficient. With the available sensor data of state of the art internet of things devices new possibilities of automated data processing emerge. Current advances in data science and in machine learning enable new, so called predictive maintenance technologies, which empower data scientists to forecast possible system failures. The goal of this approach is to cut expenses in preventive maintenance by automating the detection of possible failures and to improve efficiency and quality of maintenance measures. Additionally, a centralization of the sensor data monitoring can be achieved by using this approach. This paper describes the approach of three students to define a reference architecture for a predictive maintenance solution in the internet of things domain with a connected smartphone app for service technicians. The reference architecture is validated by a case study. The case study is implemented with current Microsoft Azure cloud technologies. The results of the case study show that the reference architecture is valid and can be used to achieve a system for predictive maintenance execution with the cloud components of Microsoft Azure. The used concepts are technology platform agnostic and can be reused in many different cloud platforms. The reference architecture is valid and can be used in many use cases, like gas station maintenance, elevator maintenance and many more. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=case%20study" title="case study">case study</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=internet%20of%20things" title=" internet of things"> internet of things</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=predictive%20maintenance" title=" predictive maintenance"> predictive maintenance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=reference%20architecture" title=" reference architecture"> reference architecture</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/78945/defining-a-reference-architecture-for-predictive-maintenance-systems-a-case-study-using-the-microsoft-azure-iot-cloud-components" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/78945.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">251</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">105</span> SMART: Solution Methods with Ants Running by Types</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nicolas%20Zufferey">Nicolas Zufferey</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Ant algorithms are well-known metaheuristics which have been widely used since two decades. In most of the literature, an ant is a constructive heuristic able to build a solution from scratch. However, other types of ant algorithms have recently emerged: the discussion is thus not limited by the common framework of the constructive ant algorithms. Generally, at each generation of an ant algorithm, each ant builds a solution step by step by adding an element to it. Each choice is based on the greedy force (also called the visibility, the short term profit or the heuristic information) and the trail system (central memory which collects historical information of the search process). Usually, all the ants of the population have the same characteristics and behaviors. In contrast in this paper, a new type of ant metaheuristic is proposed, namely SMART (for Solution Methods with Ants Running by Types). It relies on the use of different population of ants, where each population has its own personality. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ant%20algorithms" title="ant algorithms">ant algorithms</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=evolutionary%20procedures" title=" evolutionary procedures"> evolutionary procedures</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=metaheuristics" title=" metaheuristics"> metaheuristics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optimization" title=" optimization"> optimization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=population-based%20methods" title=" population-based methods"> population-based methods</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/36375/smart-solution-methods-with-ants-running-by-types" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/36375.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">365</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">104</span> Ammonia Adsorption Properties of Composite Ammonia Carriers Obtained by Supporting Metal Chloride on Porous Materials</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cheng%20Shen">Cheng Shen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=LaiHong%20Shen"> LaiHong Shen</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Ammonia is an important carrier of hydrogen energy, with the characteristics of high hydrogen content density and no carbon dioxide emission. Ammonia synthesis by the Haber process is the main method for industrial ammonia synthesis, but the conversion rate of ammonia per pass is only about 12%, while the conversion rate of biomass synthesis ammonia is as high as 56%. Therefore, safe and efficient ammonia capture for ammonia synthesis from biomass is an important way to alleviate the energy crisis and solve the energy problem. Metal chloride has a chemical adsorption effect on ammonia, and can be desorbed at high temperature to obtain high-concentration ammonia after combining with ammonia, which has a good development prospect in ammonia capture and separation technology. In this paper, the ammonia adsorption properties of CuCl₂ were measured, and the composite adsorbents were prepared by using silicon and multi-walled carbon nanotubes respectively to support CuCl₂, and the ammonia adsorption properties of the composite adsorbents were studied. The study found that the ammonia adsorption capacity of the three adsorbents decreased with the increase in temperature, so metal chlorides were more suitable for the low-temperature adsorption of ammonia. Silicon and multi-walled carbon nanotubes have an enhanced effect on the ammonia adsorption of CuCl₂. The reason is that the porous material itself has a physical adsorption effect on ammonia, and silicon can play the role of skeleton support in cupric chloride particles, which enhances the pore structure of the adsorbent, thereby alleviating sintering. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ammonia" title="ammonia">ammonia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=adsorption%20properties" title=" adsorption properties"> adsorption properties</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=metal%20chloride" title=" metal chloride"> metal chloride</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=silicon" title=" silicon"> silicon</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=MWCNTs" title=" MWCNTs"> MWCNTs</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/160707/ammonia-adsorption-properties-of-composite-ammonia-carriers-obtained-by-supporting-metal-chloride-on-porous-materials" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/160707.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">112</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">103</span> Brand Content Optimization: A Major Challenge for Sellers on Marketplaces</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Richardson%20Ciguene">Richardson Ciguene</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bertrand%20Marron"> Bertrand Marron</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nicolas%20Habert"> Nicolas Habert</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Today, more and more consumers are purchasing their products and services online. At the same time, the penetration rate of very small and medium-sized businesses on marketplaces continues to increase, which has the direct impact of intensifying competition between sellers. Thus, only the best-optimized deals are ranked well by algorithms and are visible to consumers. However, it is almost impossible to know all the Brand Content rules and criteria established by marketplaces, which is essential to optimizing their product sheets, especially since these rules change constantly. In this paper, we propose to detail this question of Brand Content optimization by taking into account the case of Amazon in order to capture the scientific dimension behind such a subject. In a second step, we will present the genesis of our research project, DEEPERFECT, which aims to set up original methods and effective tools in order to help sellers present on marketplaces in the optimization of their branded content. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=e-commerce" title="e-commerce">e-commerce</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=scoring" title=" scoring"> scoring</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=marketplace" title=" marketplace"> marketplace</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amazon" title=" Amazon"> Amazon</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=brand%20content" title=" brand content"> brand content</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=product%20sheets" title=" product sheets"> product sheets</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/148021/brand-content-optimization-a-major-challenge-for-sellers-on-marketplaces" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/148021.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">123</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">102</span> Ferromagnetic Potts Models with Multi Site Interaction</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nir%20Schreiber">Nir Schreiber</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Reuven%20Cohen"> Reuven Cohen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Simi%20Haber"> Simi Haber</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The Potts model has been widely explored in the literature for the last few decades. While many analytical and numerical results concern with the traditional two site interaction model in various geometries and dimensions, little is yet known about models where more than two spins simultaneously interact. We consider a ferromagnetic four site interaction Potts model on the square lattice (FFPS), where the four spins reside in the corners of an elementary square. Each spin can take an integer value 1,2,...,q. We write the partition function as a sum over clusters consisting of monochromatic faces. When the number of faces becomes large, tracing out spin configurations is equivalent to enumerating large lattice animals. It is known that the asymptotic number of animals with k faces is governed by λᵏ, with λ ≈ 4.0626. Based on this observation, systems with q < 4 and q > 4 exhibit a second and first order phase transitions, respectively. The transition nature of the q = 4 case is borderline. For any q, a critical giant component (GC) is formed. In the finite order case, GC is simple, while it is fractal when the transition is continuous. Using simple equilibrium arguments, we obtain a (zero order) bound on the transition point. It is claimed that this bound should apply for other lattices as well. Next, taking into account higher order sites contributions, the critical bound becomes tighter. Moreover, for q > 4, if corrections due to contributions from small clusters are negligible in the thermodynamic limit, the improved bound should be exact. The improved bound is used to relate the critical point to the finite correlation length. Our analytical predictions are confirmed by an extensive numerical study of FFPS, using the Wang-Landau method. In particular, the q=4 marginal case is supported by a very ambiguous pseudo-critical finite size behavior. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=entropic%20sampling" title="entropic sampling">entropic sampling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=lattice%20animals" title=" lattice animals"> lattice animals</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=phase%20transitions" title=" phase transitions"> phase transitions</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Potts%20model" title=" Potts model"> Potts model</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/80332/ferromagnetic-potts-models-with-multi-site-interaction" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/80332.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">160</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">101</span> Testing of Gas Turbine KingTech with Biodiesel</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nicolas%20Lipchak">Nicolas Lipchak</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Franco%20Aiducic"> Franco Aiducic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Santiago%20Baieli"> Santiago Baieli</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The present work is a part of the research project called ‘Testing of gas turbine KingTech with biodiesel’, carried out by the Department of Industrial Engineering of the National Technological University at Buenos Aires. The research group aims to experiment with biodiesel in a gas turbine Kingtech K-100 to verify the correct operation of it. In this sense, tests have been developed to obtain real data of parameters inherent to the work cycle, to be used later as parameters of comparison and performance analysis. In the first instance, the study consisted in testing the gas turbine with a mixture composition of 50% Biodiesel and 50% Diesel. The parameters arising from the measurements made were compared with the parameters of the gas turbine with a composition of 100% Diesel. In the second instance, the measured parameters were used to calculate the power generated and the thermal efficiency of the Kingtech K-100 turbine. The turbine was also inspected to verify the status of the internals due to the use of biofuels. The conclusions obtained allow empirically demonstrate that it is feasible to use biodiesel in this type of gas turbines, without the use of this fuel generates a loss of power or degradation of internals. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biodiesel" title="biodiesel">biodiesel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=efficiency" title=" efficiency"> efficiency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=KingTech" title=" KingTech"> KingTech</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=turbine" title=" turbine"> turbine</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/92969/testing-of-gas-turbine-kingtech-with-biodiesel" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/92969.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">245</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">100</span> Improving Cyber Resilience in Mobile Field Hospitals: Towards an Assessment Model</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nasir%20Baba%20Ahmed">Nasir Baba Ahmed</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nicolas%20Daclin"> Nicolas Daclin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marc%20Olivaux"> Marc Olivaux</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gilles%20Dusserre"> Gilles Dusserre</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The Mobile field hospital is critical in terms of managing emergencies in crisis. It is a sub-section of the main hospitals and the health sector, tasked with delivering responsive, immediate, and efficient medical services during a crisis. With the aim to prevent further crisis, the assessment of the cyber assets follows different methods, to distinguish its strengths and weaknesses, and in turn achieve cyber resiliency. The work focuses on assessments of cyber resilience in field hospitals with trends growing in both the field hospital and the health sector in general. This creates opportunities for the adverse attackers and the response improvement objectives for attaining cyber resilience, as the assessments allow users and stakeholders to know the level of risks with regards to its cyber assets. Thus, the purpose is to show the possible threat vectors which open up opportunities, with contrast to current trends in the assessment of the mobile field hospitals&rsquo; cyber assets. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=assessment%20framework" title="assessment framework">assessment framework</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cyber%20resilience" title=" cyber resilience"> cyber resilience</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cyber%20security" title=" cyber security"> cyber security</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mobile%20field%20hospital" title=" mobile field hospital"> mobile field hospital</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/130214/improving-cyber-resilience-in-mobile-field-hospitals-towards-an-assessment-model" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/130214.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">158</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">99</span> Heat Transfer Enhancement by Localized Time Varying Thermal Perturbations at Hot and Cold Walls in a Rectangular Differentially Heated Cavity</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nicolas%20Thiers">Nicolas Thiers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Romain%20Gers"> Romain Gers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Olivier%20Skurtys"> Olivier Skurtys</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this work, we study numerically the effect of a thermal perturbation on the heat transfer in a rectangular differentially heated cavity of aspect ratio 4, filled by air. In order to maintain the center symmetry, the thermal perturbation is imposed by a square wave at both active walls, at the same relative position of the hot or cold boundary layers. The influences of the amplitude and the vertical location of the perturbation are investigated. The air flow is calculated solving the unsteady Boussinesq-Navier-Stokes equations using the PN - PN-2 Spectral Element Method (SEM) programmed in the Nek5000 opencode, at RaH= 9x107, just before the first bifurcation which leads to periodical flow. The results show that the perturbation has a major impact for the highest amplitude, and at about three quarters of the cavity height, upstream, in both hot and cold boundary layers. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=direct%20numerical%20simulation" title="direct numerical simulation">direct numerical simulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=heat%20transfer%20enhancement" title=" heat transfer enhancement"> heat transfer enhancement</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=localized%20thermal%20perturbations" title=" localized thermal perturbations"> localized thermal perturbations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=natural%20convection" title=" natural convection"> natural convection</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rectangular%20differentially-heated%20cavity" title=" rectangular differentially-heated cavity"> rectangular differentially-heated cavity</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/109171/heat-transfer-enhancement-by-localized-time-varying-thermal-perturbations-at-hot-and-cold-walls-in-a-rectangular-differentially-heated-cavity" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/109171.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">144</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">98</span> High-Capacity Image Steganography using Wavelet-based Fusion on Deep Convolutional Neural Networks</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amal%20Khalifa">Amal Khalifa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nicolas%20Vana%20Santos"> Nicolas Vana Santos</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Steganography has been known for centuries as an efficient approach for covert communication. Due to its popularity and ease of access, image steganography has attracted researchers to find secure techniques for hiding information within an innocent looking cover image. In this research, we propose a novel deep-learning approach to digital image steganography. The proposed method, DeepWaveletFusion, uses convolutional neural networks (CNN) to hide a secret image into a cover image of the same size. Two CNNs are trained back-to-back to merge the Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) of both colored images and eventually be able to blindly extract the hidden image. Based on two different image similarity metrics, a weighted gain function is used to guide the learning process and maximize the quality of the retrieved secret image and yet maintaining acceptable imperceptibility. Experimental results verified the high recoverability of DeepWaveletFusion which outperformed similar deep-learning-based methods. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=deep%20learning" title="deep learning">deep learning</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=steganography" title=" steganography"> steganography</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=image" title=" image"> image</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=discrete%20wavelet%20transform" title=" discrete wavelet transform"> discrete wavelet transform</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fusion" title=" fusion"> fusion</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/170293/high-capacity-image-steganography-using-wavelet-based-fusion-on-deep-convolutional-neural-networks" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/170293.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">90</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">97</span> Ship Detection Requirements Analysis for Different Sea States: Validation on Real SAR Data</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jaime%20Mart%C3%ADn-de-Nicol%C3%A1s">Jaime Martín-de-Nicolás</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=David%20Mata-Moya"> David Mata-Moya</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nerea%20del-Rey-Maestre"> Nerea del-Rey-Maestre</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Pedro%20G%C3%B3mez-del-Hoyo"> Pedro Gómez-del-Hoyo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mar%C3%ADa-Pilar%20Jarabo-Amores"> María-Pilar Jarabo-Amores</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Ship detection is nowadays quite an important issue in tasks related to sea traffic control, fishery management and ship search and rescue. Although it has traditionally been carried out by patrol ships or aircrafts, coverage and weather conditions and sea state can become a problem. Synthetic aperture radars can surpass these coverage limitations and work under any climatological condition. A fast CFAR ship detector based on a robust statistical modeling of sea clutter with respect to sea states in SAR images is used. In this paper, the minimum SNR required to obtain a given detection probability with a given false alarm rate for any sea state is determined. A Gaussian target model using real SAR data is considered. Results show that SNR does not depend heavily on the class considered. Provided there is some variation in the backscattering of targets in SAR imagery, the detection probability is limited and a post-processing stage based on morphology would be suitable. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SAR" title="SAR">SAR</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=generalized%20gamma%20distribution" title=" generalized gamma distribution"> generalized gamma distribution</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=detection%20curves" title=" detection curves"> detection curves</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=radar%20detection" title=" radar detection"> radar detection</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/52278/ship-detection-requirements-analysis-for-different-sea-states-validation-on-real-sar-data" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/52278.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">452</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">96</span> Trash Dash: An Educational Android Game Application for Proper Waste Segregation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marylene%20S.%20Eder">Marylene S. The researchers designed the application using Unity 3D and developed the text file that served as the database of the game application. An observation of a pre-school teacher shows that children know how to throw their garbage but they do not know yet how to segregate wastes. After launching the mobile application to K-2 pupils 4 – 5 years of age, the researchers have noticed that children within this age are active and motivated to learn the difference between biodegradable and non-biodegradable. Based on the result of usability test conducted, it was concluded that the game is easy to use and children will most likely use this application frequently. Furthermore, the children may need assistance from their parents and teachers when playing the game. An actual testing of the application has been conducted to different devices as well as functionality test by Thwack Application and it can be concluded that the mobile application can be launched and installed on a device with a minimum API requirement of Gingerbread (2.3.1). <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=waste%20segregation" title="waste segregation">waste segregation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=android%20application" title=" android application"> android application</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biodegradable" title=" biodegradable"> biodegradable</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non-biodegradable" title=" non-biodegradable"> non-biodegradable</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/37949/trash-dash-an-educational-android-game-application-for-proper-waste-segregation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/37949.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">445</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">95</span> A Low-Cost Experimental Approach for Teaching Energy Quantization: Determining the Planck Constant with Arduino and Led</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Gast%C3%A3o%20Soares%20Ximenes%20de%20Oliveira">Gastão Soares Ximenes de Oliveira</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Richar%20Nicol%C3%A1s%20Dur%C3%A1n"> Richar Nicolás Durán</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Romeo%20Micah%20Szmoski"> Romeo Micah Szmoski</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Eloiza%20Aparecida%20Avila%20de%20Matos"> Eloiza Aparecida Avila de Matos</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elano%20Gustavo%20Rein"> Elano Gustavo Rein</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This article aims to present an experimental method to determine Planck's constant by calculating the cutting potential V₀ from LEDs with different wavelengths. The experiment is designed using Arduino as a central tool in order to make the experimental activity more engaging and attractive for students with the use of digital technologies. From the characteristic curves of each LED, graphical analysis was used to obtain the cutting potential, and knowing the corresponding wavelength, it was possible to calculate Planck's constant. This constant was also obtained from the linear adjustment of the cutting potential graph by the frequency of each LED. Given the relevance of Planck's constant in physics, it is believed that this experiment can offer teachers the opportunity to approach concepts from modern physics, such as the quantization of energy, in a more accessible and applied way in the classroom. This will not only enrich students' understanding of the fundamental nature of matter but also encourage deeper engagement with the principles of quantum physics. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=physics%20teaching" title="physics teaching">physics teaching</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=educational%20technology" title=" educational technology"> educational technology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=modern%20physics" title=" modern physics"> modern physics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Planck%20constant" title=" Planck constant"> Planck constant</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arduino" title=" Arduino"> Arduino</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/173953/a-low-cost-experimental-approach-for-teaching-energy-quantization-determining-the-planck-constant-with-arduino-and-led" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/173953.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">76</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">94</span> The Role of Brand Experience in Customer Satisfaction and Customer Loyalty in Ayandeh Bank Branches in Tehran</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Seyed%20Reza%20Agha%20Seyed%20Hosseini">Seyed Reza Agha Seyed Hosseini</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nicolas%20Hamelin"> Nicolas Hamelin</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Many marketing executives are looking for a comprehensive plan for delivering quality services and products that will create a distinct and unforgettable long-term experience for customers in dealing with their brand. Inadvertent missing values skew these datasets and compromise the validity of the thesis. Here we discuss a conceptually consistent strategy for identifying other relevant datasets to combine with available big data, to plug the gaps and to create a rich requisite comprehensive dataset for subsequent analysis. Specifically, emphasis is on how these methodologies can for the first time enable the construction of more detailed pictures of passenger demand and drivers of mobility on the railways. These methodologies can predict the influence of changes within the network (like a change in time-table or impact of a new station), explain local phenomena outside the network (like rail-heading) and the other impacts of urban morphology. Our analysis also reveals that our new imputation data model provides for more equitable revenue sharing amongst network operators who manage different parts of the integrated UK railways. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=big-data" title="big-data">big-data</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=micro-simulation" title=" micro-simulation"> micro-simulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mobility" title=" mobility"> mobility</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ticketing-data" title=" ticketing-data"> ticketing-data</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=commuters" title=" commuters"> commuters</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=transport" title=" transport"> transport</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=synthetic" title=" synthetic"> synthetic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=population" title=" population"> population</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/77320/imputation-of-urban-movement-patterns-using-big-data" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/77320.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">231</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">92</span> Interpretation as Ontological Determination and Negotiation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nicolas%20Cuevas-Alvear">Nicolas Cuevas-Alvear</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The subject of this paper is the concept of interpretation. Its purpose is to expose the need for a new concept of interpretation and to trace the construction route of interpretation as determination and negotiation. The thesis it defends is that interpretation is the determination of events and the negotiation of those determinations in communication. To meet its objective, this manuscript is divided into five sections. The first section introduces the subject and the need for a new concept of interpretation. The second section explicitly formulates the research questions and the objectives of the project for the construction of a new concept of interpretation. The third section presents the state of the art, specifically, the theory of Radical interpretation proposed by Donald Davidson and the theory of the Hermeneutic Circle proposed by Hans Georg Gadamer. In addition, in this section, there is a reconstruction of Ernst Cassirer's explanation of language as a symbolic form. The fourth section is an explanation of the proposal based on the theories presented. Specifically: language as a symbolic form explains interpretation as a determination of events using objective, subjective and intersubjective elements, and these three elements are negotiated in interpretation as communication. The last section is the bibliography proposed to carry out the project. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=interpretation" title="interpretation">interpretation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=metaphysics" title=" metaphysics"> metaphysics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=semantics" title=" semantics"> semantics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Donald%20Davidson" title=" Donald Davidson"> Donald Davidson</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ERNST%20Cassirer" title=" ERNST Cassirer"> ERNST Cassirer</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/164778/interpretation-as-ontological-determination-and-negotiation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/164778.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">194</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">91</span> Equivalent Electrical Model of a Shielded Pulse Planar Transformer in Isolated Gate Drivers for SiC MOSFETs</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Loreine%20Makki">Loreine Makki</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marc%20Anthony%20Mannah"> Marc Anthony Mannah</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Christophe%20Batard"> Christophe Batard</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nicolas%20Ginot"> Nicolas Ginot</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Julien%20Weckbrodt"> Julien Weckbrodt</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Planar transformers are extensively utilized in high-frequency, high power density power electronic converters. The breakthrough of wide-bandgap technology compelled power electronic system miniaturization while inducing pivotal effects on system modeling and manufacturing within the power electronics industry. A significant consideration to simulate and model the unanticipated parasitic parameters emerges with the requirement to mitigate electromagnetic disturbances. This paper will present an equivalent circuit model of a shielded pulse planar transformer quantifying leakage inductance and resistance in addition to the interwinding capacitance of the primary and secondary windings. ANSYS Q3D Extractor was utilized to model and simulate the transformer, intending to study the immunity of the simulated equivalent model to high dv/dt occurrences. A convenient correlation between simulation and experimental results is presented. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Planar%20transformers" title="Planar transformers">Planar transformers</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wide-band%20gap" title="wide-band gap">wide-band gap</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=equivalent%20circuit%20model" title="equivalent circuit model">equivalent circuit model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=shielded" title="shielded">shielded</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ANSYS%20Q3D%20Extractor" title="ANSYS Q3D Extractor">ANSYS Q3D Extractor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dv%2Fdt" title="dv/dt">dv/dt</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/140561/equivalent-electrical-model-of-a-shielded-pulse-planar-transformer-in-isolated-gate-drivers-for-sic-mosfets" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/140561.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">206</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">90</span> Development and Characterisation of a Microbioreactor &#039;Cassette&#039; for Cell Culture Applications</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nelson%20Barrientos">Nelson Barrientos</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Matthew%20J.%20Davies"> Matthew J. In particular, the technology promises flexible and controllable devices capable to perform parallelised experimentation at low cost. Currently, state of the art methods (e.g. optical sensors) allow the accurate monitoring of the microbioreactor operation. In addition, the laminar flow regime encountered in these devices allows more predictive fluid dynamics modelling, improving the control over the soluble, physical and mechanical environment of the cells. This work describes the development and characterisation of a novel microbioreactor cassette system (microbioreactor volume is 150 μL. The volumetric oxygen transfer coefficient (KLa) and mixing time have been characterised to be between 25 to 113 h-1 and 0.5 and 0.1 s, respectively. In addition, the Residence time distribution (RTD) analysis confirms that the reactor operates at well mixed conditions. Finally, Staphylococcus carnosus TM300 growth is demonstrated via batch culture experiments. Future work consists in expanding the optics of the microbioreactor design to include the monitoring of variables such as fluorescent protein expression, among others. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=microbioreactor" title="microbioreactor">microbioreactor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cell-culture" title=" cell-culture"> cell-culture</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fermentation" title=" fermentation"> fermentation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=microfluidics" title=" microfluidics"> microfluidics</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/39466/development-and-characterisation-of-a-microbioreactor-cassette-for-cell-culture-applications" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/39466.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">416</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">89</span> Anthropomorphic Interfaces For User Trust in a Highly Automated Driving</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Clarisse%20Lawson-Guidigbe">Clarisse Lawson-Guidigbe</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nicolas%20Louveton"> Nicolas Louveton</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kahina%20Amokrane-Ferka"> Kahina Amokrane-Ferka</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jean-Marc%20Andre"> Jean-Marc Andre</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Trust in automated driving systems is receiving growing attention in the research community. Anthropomorphism has been identified by past research as a trust-building factor. In this paper, we consider three anthropomorphic interfaces integrating three versions of a virtual assistant. We attempt to measure the impact of each of these interfaces on trust in the automated driving system. An experiment following a between-subject design was conducted in a driving simulator (N = 36) to evaluate participants’ performance and experience in two handover situations (a simple one and a critical one). Perception of anthropomorphism and trust was measured using scales, while participants’ experience was measured during elicitation interviews. We found no significant difference between the three interfaces regarding the perception of anthropomorphism, trust levels, or experience. However, regarding participants’ performance, we found a significant difference between the three interfaces in the simple handover situations but not the critical one. Learnings from anthropomorphism and trust measurement scales are discussed and suggestions for further research are proposed. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=highly%20automated%20driving" title="highly automated driving">highly automated driving</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=trust" title=" trust"> trust</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=anthropomorphic%20design" title=" anthropomorphic design"> anthropomorphic design</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mindful%20anthropomorphism" title=" mindful anthropomorphism"> mindful anthropomorphism</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mindless%20anthropomorphism" title=" mindless anthropomorphism"> mindless anthropomorphism</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/146868/anthropomorphic-interfaces-for-user-trust-in-a-highly-automated-driving" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/146868.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">147</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">88</span> Cash Flow Optimization on Synthetic CDOs</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Timoth%C3%A9e%20Bligny">Timothée Bligny</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cl%C3%A9ment%20Codron"> Clément Codron</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Antoine%20Estruch"> Antoine Estruch</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nicolas%20Girodet"> Nicolas Girodet</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cl%C3%A9ment%20Ginet"> Clément Ginet</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Collateralized Debt Obligations are not as widely used nowadays as they were before 2007 Subprime crisis. Nonetheless there remains an enthralling challenge to optimize cash flows associated with synthetic CDOs. A Gaussian-based model is used here in which default correlation and unconditional probabilities of default are highlighted. Then numerous simulations are performed based on this model for different scenarios in order to evaluate the associated cash flows given a specific number of defaults at different periods of time. Cash flows are not solely calculated on a single bought or sold tranche but rather on a combination of bought and sold tranches. With some assumptions, the simplex algorithm gives a way to find the maximum cash flow according to correlation of defaults and maturities. The used Gaussian model is not realistic in crisis situations. Besides present system does not handle buying or selling a portion of a tranche but only the whole tranche. However the work provides the investor with relevant elements on how to know what and when to buy and sell. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a
