We present neural and psychological responses to food, the gut-brain axis, microbiome and epigenetic factors involved in the development of overweight and overeating. The cardioprotective and renoprotective properties of some of these drugs are also stressed. Medications approved for the treatment of obesity are then discussed, with a focus on their glycemic effect.
