The ascension marks the conclusion of Jesus' earthly ministry and His return to the Father. It is recorded in more detail in <a href="/acts/1-9.htm">Acts 1:9-11</a>. The ascension fulfills the prophecy found in <a href="/psalms/110.htm">Psalm 110:1</a>, where the Messiah is invited to sit at the right hand of God.
