It focuses on the lengthy development of Russian studies on Ismailism from the Russian colonial domination to the entire period of Soviet rule, down to the collapse of the Soviet Union and the last two decades of post-Soviet history. These studies, conducted along the lines of various disciplines in the span of more than one hundred years, have resulted in a large amount of scholarly contributions. This paper aims at probing the virtues and shortcoming of such scholarship. Particularly, our investigation of the specialised fields in the Russian-Soviet Studies has required laborious researches in Russian and Central Asian libraries, which have enabled us to provide a guide through this literature, assessing its ideological leanings and qualities, institutions and level of scholarship. Despite some shortcomings, due to Marxism and the authoritarian rule of the Communist Party over the socio-religious life of the people and religious communities, Soviet studies have produced many positive insights on Ismailis studies. These captured almost every aspects of the life of the Ismaili community from anthropology to archaeology, ethnography, history, philosophy, ritual practice and, most importantly, collection and preservation of Ismaiili manuscripts, which will be examined and assessed in this study. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Central%20Asian%20Studies" title="Central Asian Studies">Central Asian Studies</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ismailism" title=" Ismailism"> Ismailism</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Russian%20Studies" title=" Russian Studies"> Russian Studies</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Soviet%20Studies" title=" Soviet Studies"> Soviet Studies</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/51472/russian-soviet-and-post-soviet-studies-on-ismailism" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/51472.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">293</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">14170</span> A Review of Food Security Policy Research in Central Asia</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mergen%20Dyussenov">Mergen Dyussenov</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Food security has become a prominent issue on the global policy agenda. As the result of the project, two accreditation agencies were established: the agency for quality assurance in the field of education, “EdNet” in Kyrgyzstan, center of progressive technologies in Tajikistan. The importance of the research studies of the project is supported by the idea that the creation of Central-Asian network for quality assurance in education is still relevant, and results of the International forum “Global in regional: Kazakhstan in Bologna process and EU projects,” that was held in Nur-Sultan in October 2020, proves this. At the same time, the previous experience of the partnership between accreditation agencies of Central Asia shows that recommendations elaborated within the CANQA project were not theoretically justified. But there are a number of facts and arguments that prove the practical appliance of these recommendations. In this respect, joint activities of accreditation agencies of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan are representative. For example, independent Kazakh agency of accreditation and rating successfully conducts accreditation of Kyrgyz universities; based on the memorandum about joint activity between the agency for quality assurance in the field of education “EdNet” (Kyrgyzstan) and Astana accreditation agency (Kazakhstan), the last one provides its experts for accreditation procedures in EdNet. Exchange of experience among the agencies shows an effective approach towards adaptation of European standards to the reality of education systems of Central Asia with consideration of not only a legal framework but also from the point of European practices view. Therefore, the relevance of the research is identified as there is a practical partnership between accreditation agencies of Central Asian countries, but the absence of theoretical justification of integrational processes in the accreditation field. As a result, the following hypothesis was put forward: “if to develop theoretical aspects for harmonization of accreditation standards, then integrational processes would be improved since the implementation of Bologna process principles would be supported with wider possibilities, and particularly, students and academic mobility would be improved.” Indeed, for example, in Kazakhstan, the total share of foreign students was 5,04% in 2020, and most of them are coming from Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, and if integrational processes will be improved, then this share can increase. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=accreditation%20standards%20in%20education" title="accreditation standards in education">accreditation standards in education</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Central%20Asian%20countries" title=" Central Asian countries"> Central Asian countries</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pedagogical%20theory" title=" pedagogical theory"> pedagogical theory</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=model" title=" model"> model</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/138535/harmonization-of-accreditation-standards-in-education-of-central-asian-countries-theoretical-aspect" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/138535.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">199</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">14167</span> The Rise of Halal Banking and Financial Products in Post-Soviet Central Asia: A Study of Causative Factors</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bilal%20Ahmad%20Malik">Bilal Ahmad Malik</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> With the fall of Soviet Union in 1991 the whole Central Asian region saw a dramatic rise in Muslim identity, a call back to Islamic legacy. Today, many Central Asian Muslims demand, what Islam has termed legal (Halal) and, avoid what Islam has termed illegal (Haram). The process of Islamic resurgence kicked off very quickly soon after the integration of Central Asian republics with other Muslim geographies through the membership of Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) and other similar organizations. This interaction proved to be a vital push factor to the already existing indigenous reviving trends and sentiments. As a result, along with many other requirements, Muslim customer demand emerged as navel trend in the market in general and in banking and financial sector in particular. To get this demand fulfilled, the governments of CIS states like Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan introduced Halal banking and financial products in the market. Firstly, the present paper would briefly discuss the core composition of Halal banking and financial products. Then, coming to its major theme, it would try to identify and analyze the causes that lead to the emergence of Islamic banking and finance industry in the Muslim majority Post-Soviet CIS States. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=causes" title="causes">causes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Central%20Asia" title=" Central Asia"> Central Asia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=interest-free%20banking" title=" interest-free banking"> interest-free banking</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Islamic%20Revival" title=" Islamic Revival"> Islamic Revival</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28236/the-rise-of-halal-banking-and-financial-products-in-post-soviet-central-asia-a-study-of-causative-factors" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/28236.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">399</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">14166</span> Examination of Predictive Factors of Depression among Asian American Adolescents: A Narrative Review</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Annisa%20Siu">Annisa Siu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ping%20Zou"> Ping Zou</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Background: Existent literature addressing Asian American children and adolescents reveals that this population is experiencing rates of depression comparable to those of European American and other ethnic minority youths. Within the last decade, increased attention has been given to Asian American adolescent mental health. Methods: 44 articles were extracted from Pubmed, PsycINFO, EMBASE, and Proquest CINAHL. Data were subject to thematic analyses and categorized into factors under individual, familial, and community levels. Results: Of all the individual factors, age and gender were the most supported in their relationship with depressive symptoms. Likewise, living situations, parent-child relations, peer relations, and broader environmental factors were strongly evidenced. The remaining psychosocial factors faced contrary evidence or were insubstantially addressed in the empirical literature. Discussion: The identified psychosocial factors within this study offer a starting point for future research to examine what factors should be included in formal or informal methods of screening/consultations. Clinicians should aim to understand the cultural influences specific to Asian American adolescents, particularly the central role that family relations may have on their depressive symptoms. Conclusion: Low awareness of culturally linked expressions of psychological distress can lead to misdiagnosis or under-diagnosis of depression in Asian American youth. Further evidence is needed to clarify the relationship of psychosocial factors linked to Asian American adolescent depressive symptoms. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=adolescent" title="adolescent">adolescent</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Asian%20American" title=" Asian American"> Asian American</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=depression" title=" depression"> depression</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=psychosocial%20factors" title=" psychosocial factors"> psychosocial factors</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/133182/examination-of-predictive-factors-of-depression-among-asian-american-adolescents-a-narrative-review" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/133182.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">121</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">14165</span> Assessment of Pakistan-China Economic Corridor: An Emerging Dynamic of 21st Century</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Naad-E-Ali%20Sulehria">Naad-E-Ali Sulehria</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Pakistan and china have stepped in a new phase of strengthening fraternity as the dream of economic corridor once discerned by both countries is going to take a pragmatic shape. Pak-China economic corridor an under construction program is termed to be an emerging dynamic of 21st century that anticipates a nexus between Asian continent and Indian Ocean by extending its functions to adjoining East, South, Central and Western Asian regions. The $45.6 billion worth heavily invested megaprojects by China are meant to revive energy sector and building economic infrastructure in Pakistan. Evidently, these projects are a part of ‘southern extension’ of Silk Road economic belt which is going to draw out prominent incentives for both countries particularly bolstering China to acquire influential dominance over the regional trade and beyond. In pursuit to adhere, by these progressive plans both countries have began working on their respective assignments. This article discusses the economical development programs under China’s peripheral diplomacy regarding its region-specific-approach to accumulate trade of Persian Gulf and access the landlocked Central Asian states through Pakistan in a sublimate context to break US encirclement of Asia. Pakistan’s utmost preference to utilize its strategic channel as a trade hub to become an emerging economy and surpass its arch-rival India for strategic concerns is contemplated accordingly. The needs and feasibility of the economic gateway and the dividends it can provide in the contemporary scenario are examined carefully and analysis is drawn upon the future prospects of the Pakistan-China Economic corridor once completed. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pak-china%20economic%20corridor%20%28PCEC%29" title="pak-china economic corridor (PCEC)">pak-china economic corridor (PCEC)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=central%20asian%20republic%20states%20%28CARs%29" title=" central asian republic states (CARs)"> central asian republic states (CARs)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=new%20silk%20road%20economic%20belt" title=" new silk road economic belt"> new silk road economic belt</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gawadar" title=" gawadar"> gawadar</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/30343/assessment-of-pakistan-china-economic-corridor-an-emerging-dynamic-of-21st-century" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/30343.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">367</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">14164</span> Mellowing the Mélange: Ancient Southeast Asian Kingdoms in the Asian Civilizations Museum</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rin%20Li%20Si%20Samantha">Rin Li Si Samantha</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The Asian Civilisations Museum in Singapore contains artifacts spanning thousands of years of history and possibly hundreds of communities and nations. Based in Singapore, its collections history and curation are deeply rooted in Singapore’s national and international agendas: to be a cultural center within Southeast Asia and a global hub representing Asia to the world. As such, the position of Southeast Asian histories, particularly Southeast Asian ancient kingdoms, is a carefully negotiated one; its presence contingent on the territorialization and depoliticization of Southeast Asian ancient kingdoms, such that they remain palatable to modern nation-states and governments; its absence noted, strategically overlooked in favour of ‘grander’ cultural and global — oftentimes a misnomer for Western — narratives. This study undertakes a close reading of several key permanent exhibitions at the Asian Civilisations Museum in pursuit of how ancient Southeast Asian kingdoms are framed and forgotten to reveal a conscious mellowing of the mélange such that Singapore may be positioned as inheritor of Asia’s cultural wealth. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=museum" title="museum">museum</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Southeast%20Asia" title=" Southeast Asia"> Southeast Asia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=art%20history" title=" art history"> art history</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pre-colonial" title=" pre-colonial"> pre-colonial</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=national%20narratives" title=" national narratives"> national narratives</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/170880/mellowing-the-melange-ancient-southeast-asian-kingdoms-in-the-asian-civilizations-museum" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/170880.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">77</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">14163</span> Islam in Nation Building: Case Studies of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Etibar%20Guliyev">Etibar Guliyev</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Durdana%20Jafarli"> Durdana Jafarli</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The breakdown of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s and the 9/11 attacks resulted in the global changes created a totally new geopolitical situation for the Muslim populated republics of the former Soviet Union. Located between great powers such as China and Russia, as well as theocratic states like Iran and Afghanistan, the newly independent Central Asian states were facing a dilemma to choose a new politico-ideological course for development. Policies dubbed Perestroyka and Glasnost leading to the collapse of the world’s once superpower brought about a considerable rise in the national and religious self-consciousness of the Muslim population of the USSR where the religion was prohibited under the strict communist rule. Moreover, the religious movements prohibited during the Soviet era acted as a part of national straggle to gain their freedom from Moscow. The policies adopted by the Central Asian countries to manage the religious revival and extremism in their countries vary dramatically from each other. As Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan are located between Russia and China and hosting a considerable number of the Russian population, these countries treated Islamic revival more tolerantly trying benefit from it in the nation-building process. The importance of the topic could be explained with the fact that it investigates an alternative way of management of religious activities and movements. The recent developments in the Middle East, Syria and Iraq in particular, and the fact that hundreds of fighters from the Central Asian republics joined the ISIL terrorist organization once again highlights the implications of the proper regulation of religious activities not only for domestic, but also for regional and global politics. The paper is based on multiple research methods. The process trace method was exploited to better understand the Russification and anti-religious policies to which the Central Asian countries were subject during the Soviet era. The comparative analyse method was also used to better understand the common and distinct features of the politics of religion of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan and the rest of the Central Asian countries. Various legislation acts, as well as secondary sources were investigated to this end. Mostly constructivist approach and a theory suggesting that religion supports national identity when there is a third cohesion that threatens both and when elements of national identity are weak. Preliminary findings suggest that in line with policies aimed at gradual reduction of Russian influence, as well as in the face of ever-increasing migration from China, the mentioned countries incorporated some Islamic elements into domestic policies as a part and parcel of national culture. Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan did not suppress religious activities, which was case in neighboring states, but allowed in a controlled way Islamic movements to have a relatively freedom of action which in turn led to the less violent religious extremism further boosting national identity. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=identity" title="identity">identity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Islam" title=" Islam"> Islam</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nationalism" title=" nationalism"> nationalism</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=terrorism" title=" terrorism"> terrorism</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/94016/islam-in-nation-building-case-studies-of-kazakhstan-and-kyrgyzstan" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/94016.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">288</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">14162</span> A Study on Children's Literature for Multiracial Asian American Children</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kaori%20Mori%20Want">Kaori Mori Want</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> American society is a racially diverse society and there are children books that tell the importance of respecting racial differences. Through reading books, children understand the world around them little by little along with their direct interaction with the world in reality. They find role models in books, strive to be like role models, and grow confidence in who they are. Books thus nurture the mind of children. On the other hand, because of their small presence, children books for multiracial Asian American children are scarce. Multiracial Asian American population is increasing but they are still minority in number. The lack of children’s books for these children may deprive the opportunities of them to embrace their multiraciality positively because they cannot find someone like them in any books. Children books for multiracial Asian American are still not that many, but a few have been being published recently. This paper introduces children books for multiracial Asian American children, and examines how they address issues pertaining to these children, and how they could nurture their self-esteem. Many states of the US used to ban interracial marriages and interracial families and their children once were discriminated against in American society. There was even a theory called the hybrid degeneracy theory which claimed that mixed race children were inferior mentally and physically. In this negative social environment, some multiracial Asian American people report that they had trouble embracing their multiracial identity positively. Yet, children books for these children are full of positive messages. This paper will argue the importance of children books for the mental growth of multiracial Asian American children, and how these books can contribute to the development of multiculturalism in the US in general. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=critical%20mixed%20race%20studies%20in%20the%20US" title="critical mixed race studies in the US">critical mixed race studies in the US</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hapa%20children%20literature" title=" hapa children literature"> hapa children literature</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=interracial%20marriage" title=" interracial marriage"> interracial marriage</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multiraciality" title=" multiraciality"> multiraciality</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/50767/a-study-on-childrens-literature-for-multiracial-asian-american-children" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/50767.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">360</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">14161</span> A Study of the Depression Status of Asian American Adolescents</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Selina%20Lin">Selina Lin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Justin%20M%20Fan"> Justin M Fan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vincent%20Zhang"> Vincent Zhang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cindy%20Chen"> Cindy Chen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Daniel%20Lam"> Daniel Lam</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jason%20Yan"> Jason Yan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ning%20Zhang"> Ning Zhang</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Depression is one of the most common mental disorders in the United States, and past studies have shown a concerning increase in the rates of depression in youth populations over time. Furthermore, depression is an especially important issue for Asian Americans because of the anti-Asian violence taking place during the COVID-19 pandemic. While Asian American adolescents are reluctant to seek help for mental health issues, past research has found a prevalence of depressive symptoms in them that have yet to be fully investigated. There have been studies conducted to understand and observe the impacts of multifarious factors influencing the mental well-being of Asian American adolescents; however, they have been generally limited to qualitative investigation, and very few have attempted to quantitatively evaluate the relationship between depression levels and a comprehensive list of factors for those levels at the same time. To better quantify these relationships, this project investigated the prevalence of depression in Asian American teenagers mainly from the Greater Philadelphia Region, aged 12 to 19, and, with an anonymous survey, asked participants 48 multiple-choice questions pertaining to demographic information, daily behaviors, school life, family life, depression levels (quantified by the PHQ-9 assessment), school and family support against depression. Each multiple-choice question was assigned as a factor and variable for statistical and dominance analysis to determine the most influential factors on depression levels of Asian American adolescents. The results were validated via Bootstrap analysis and t-tests. While certain influential factors identified in this survey are consistent with the literature, such as parent-child relationship and peer pressure, several dominant factors were relatively overlooked in the past. These factors include the parents’ relationship with each other, the satisfaction with body image, sex identity, support from the family and support from the school. More than 25% of participants desired more support from their families and schools in handling depression issues. This study implied that it is beneficial for Asian American parents and adolescents to take programs on parents’ relationships with each other, parent-child communication, mental health, and sexual identity. A culturally inclusive school environment and more accessible mental health services would be helpful for Asian American adolescents to combat depression. This survey-based study paved the way for further investigation of effective approaches for helping Asian American adolescents against depression. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Asian%20American%20adolescents" title="Asian American adolescents">Asian American adolescents</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=depression" title=" depression"> depression</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dominance%20analysis" title=" dominance analysis"> dominance analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=t-test" title=" t-test"> t-test</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bootstrap%20analysis" title=" bootstrap analysis"> bootstrap analysis</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/145212/a-study-of-the-depression-status-of-asian-american-adolescents" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/145212.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">137</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">14160</span> Cultural Boundaries and Mental Health Stigma: A Systemic Review of Interventions to Reduce Opposition of Mental Health Services in Asian American Families</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tanya%20L.%20Patimeteeporn">Tanya L. These factors arise from a combination of cultural perceptions of mental illness, and methods of treating them without the use of a mental health professional. Due to the increased awareness of Asian Americans’ stigmatization to mental health, there has been an effort to create culturally competent interventions for Asian American families that would reduce opposition to mental health services. Assessment of the effectiveness of these interventions reveals practices that integrate traditional healing methods with psychoeducation are more likely to promote receptiveness of mental health services by Asian American families. The documentary in this review, demonstrates these traditional healing methods from various ethnic enclaves in Los Angeles. In addition, mental health professionals who provide these interventions to Asian American families need to consider culture-bound syndromes and the various Asian health philosophies and belief systems in order to provide a culturally sensitive holistic treatment for their clients. However, because the literature on these interventions is limited, there is a need for a larger body of evidence to accurately assess the effectiveness of these culturally competent psychoeducation interventions. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Asian%20American" title="Asian American">Asian American</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cultural%20boundaries" title=" cultural boundaries"> cultural boundaries</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=intervention" title=" intervention"> intervention</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mental%20health%20stigma" title=" mental health stigma"> mental health stigma</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=psychoeducation" title=" psychoeducation"> psychoeducation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=traditional%20healing" title=" traditional healing"> traditional healing</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/58515/cultural-boundaries-and-mental-health-stigma-a-systemic-review-of-interventions-to-reduce-opposition-of-mental-health-services-in-asian-american-families" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/58515.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">547</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">14159</span> The Impact of Government Expenditure on Economic Growth: A Study of Asian Countries</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=K.%20P.%20K.%20S.%20Lahirushan">K. Consequently, Fist, objective is to analyze whether government expenditure causes economic growth in Asian countries vice versa and then scrutinizing long-run equilibrium relationship exists between them. The study completely based on secondary data. The methodology being quantitative that includes econometrical techniques of cointegration, panel fixed effects model and granger causality in the context of panel data of Asian countries; Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea, Japan, China, Sri Lanka, India and Bhutan with 44 observations in each country, totaling to 396 observations from 1970 to 2013. The model used is the random effects panel OLS model. As with the above methodology, the study found the fascinating outcome. At first, empirical findings exhibit a momentous positive impact of government expenditure on Gross Domestic Production in Asian region. Secondly, government expenditure and economic growth indicate a long-run relationship in Asian countries. In conclusion, there is a unidirectional causality from economic growth to government expenditure and government expenditure to economic growth in Asian countries. Hence the study is validated that it is in line with the Keynesian theory and Wagner’s law as well. Consequently, it can be concluded that role of government would play a vital role in economic growth of Asian Countries .However; if government expenditure did not figure out with the economy’s needs it might be considerably inspiration the economy in a negative way so that society bears the costs. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Asian%20countries" title="Asian countries">Asian countries</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=government%20expenditure" title=" government expenditure"> government expenditure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Keynesian%20theory" title=" Keynesian theory"> Keynesian theory</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wagner%E2%80%99s%20theory" title=" Wagner’s theory"> Wagner’s theory</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=random%20effects%20panel%20ols%20model" title=" random effects panel ols model"> random effects panel ols model</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/35619/the-impact-of-government-expenditure-on-economic-growth-a-study-of-asian-countries" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/35619.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">352</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">14158</span> Bamboo Resilience: Mentoring Asian Students to Develop their Self-Leadership via Online Seminars</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Tam%20Nguyen">Tam Nguyen</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Self-leadership is strongly tied to the ability to be resilient in the face of adversity. This study aims to demonstrate how a strategy based on a culturally relevant "bamboo metaphor" enables Asian students to cross cultural boundaries and to engage in online discussions to unlock their self-leadership potential. Asian students are influenced to varying degrees by the Confucian heritage culture, which educates students to respect authority, maintain harmony, and avoid public confrontations. This has a significant impact on the cultural readiness of Asian students to express their development as self-leaders. In this research project, researchers as mentors individually assist students, cultivate cognitive progress, encourage and personally ask students to join a process of mentorship program. This study analyzes and interprets the data from a large online seminar in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, where students were trained in self-leadership skills. Focus-group interviews were implemented among 90 students in the program. Findings reveal the emotional needs of Asian students and suggest a cognitive model for developing students' self-awareness, self-confidence, and self-efficacy. The research results are anticipated to be applicable to a broader Asian population with a comparable cultural environment to Vietnam. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=self-leadership" title="self-leadership">self-leadership</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bamboo%20resilience" title=" bamboo resilience"> bamboo resilience</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cognitive%20modeling" title=" cognitive modeling"> cognitive modeling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Asian%20culture" title=" Asian culture"> Asian culture</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/152716/bamboo-resilience-mentoring-asian-students-to-develop-their-self-leadership-via-online-seminars" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/152716.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">88</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">14157</span> Measuring Science and Technology Innovation Capacity in Developing Countries: From a National Innovation System</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Haeng%20A.%20Seo">Haeng A. They were derived as structuring components of the relevant diagnostic model, which encompasses the whole process of S&T innovation from the input of resources to the output of economically valuable results. For many developing nations, economic industries remain weaker than actual S&T capabilities, and relevant regulatory authorities may not exist. They parasitize the larvae and adults of different susceptible arthropods. They are highly priced and have been reported to be highly medicinal. Cordyceps have been used for centuries in traditional medicine in China and other Asian countries. Survey studies were carried out to determine the presence of Cordyceps and another entomopathogenic fungal floral in North Central Nigeria for two consecutive years. Thirty samples were collected, twenty-eight were identified, and two were unidentified. Most identified species belong to Ophiocordyceps species (20samples), Cordyceps species (4samples) and Isaria species (4samples). The species identified were: Cordyceps pseudomilitaris, Cordyceps tuberculata, Cordyceps cylindrical, Ophiocordyceps nutans, O. criminals, O. oxycephala, O. kniphofioides and Isaria sinclairii. The morphological and microscopic features of the collected and identified species were similar to those reported in other countries. This is the first official report on the presence of Cordyceps species in Nigeria. Further collections from different ecological regions of Nigeria will show the richness of the floral diversity of these entomopathogenic and medicinal mushrooms in Nigeria. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cordyceps" title="cordyceps">cordyceps</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=entomopathogenic" title=" entomopathogenic"> entomopathogenic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=medicinal" title=" medicinal"> medicinal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=North%20Central" title=" North Central"> North Central</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nigeria" title=" Nigeria"> Nigeria</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/166551/cordyceps-and-related-fungi-from-nigeria" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/166551.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">105</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">14155</span> South African Students' Statistical Literacy in the Conceptual Understanding about Measures of Central Tendency after Completing Their High School Studies</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lukanda%20Kalobo">Lukanda Kalobo</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In South Africa, the High School Mathematics Curriculum provides teachers with specific aims and skills to be developed which involves the understanding about the measures of central tendency. It furthermore discusses the statistical literacy basics involved in understanding the concepts of measures of central tendency. The statistical literacy test on the measures of central tendency, was used to collect data which was administered to 78 first year students direct from high schools. The results indicated that students seemed to have forgotten about the statistical literacy in understanding the concepts of measure of central tendency after completing their high school study. Given that, the author systematized materials; carried out the synthetic and analysis for research results of Vietnamese and foreign researchers until now on Vietnamese export ceramics on the basis of the historical sources, archaeological findings discovered from relics in the tombs, relics of residence, relics of trading port inland, and the ancient shipwreck sank in the Asian countries. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Vietnamese%20ceramics" title="Vietnamese ceramics">Vietnamese ceramics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=trading" title=" trading"> trading</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=maritime" title=" maritime"> maritime</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=international" title=" international "> international </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/38333/vietnamese-trade-ceramics-from-the-14th-century-to-the-17th-century-through-materials" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/38333.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">269</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">14152</span> Analyzing the Impact of Indian Architecture on the Architecture of Cambodia, Thailand and Indonesia</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sriranjani%20Srinivasan">Sriranjani Srinivasan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> To appreciate Indian art and architecture by studying it in India alone will only lead to partial understanding of the whole story and the variety of the statement has been amply proved by subsequent decades of patient research. The results of the work of the Archaeological Survey of India forms only one half of the picture, the other half emerges with the studies of the archaeology and art of the Far East that progressed almost simultaneously under the Archaeological Survey of the Dutch East Indies, the École française d'Extrême-Orient (EFEO), or French School of Asian Studies, and allied institutions. The conclusions arrived at have only rendered the assertion that India produced her ultimate master pieces only through foreign influences and in foreign lands (the South-Eastern peninsular and archipelagic regions) almost axiomatic. Angkor in Cambodia and Borobudur in Java, undoubtedly the two greatest architectural marvels of Indian genius, for in content and spirit these (and other monuments of varying magnitudes), are purely Indian, would well illustrate the statement mentioned earlier. Stimulated research followed the discoveries and among the many studies and publications of such pioneers like Coedes, Parmentier, Coomaraswamy and many others in Dutch, French and English made growing contributions to the subject. This paper will discuss in detail the impact of India on the architecture of South East Asia by detailed comparison of architectural styles, elements, and construction materials of a few specific architectural master pieces, in both India and South East Asian countries. It will also analyze the reasoning behind the influence of India on South East Asian countries in spite of them being exposed to the equally culturally rich and civilized kingdoms of China. The intention of this paper is to understand that, conquest by war is not always the only reason for architectural influences and impacts. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=architectural%20influence" title="architectural influence">architectural influence</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Buddhist%20architecture" title=" Buddhist architecture"> Buddhist architecture</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Indian%20architecture" title=" Indian architecture"> Indian architecture</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Southeast%20Asian%20architecture" title=" Southeast Asian architecture"> Southeast Asian architecture</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/104071/analyzing-the-impact-of-indian-architecture-on-the-architecture-of-cambodia-thailand-and-indonesia" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/104071.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">308</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">14151</span> Housing Choices of Asian American Older Adults</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zoe%20Yang">Zoe Yang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dena%20Shenk"> Dena Shenk</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The goal of this research was to highlight stories from voices that are typically disregarded. Five older Asian Americans, who immigrated from Cambodia, Taiwan, and China, were interviewed in person, over Zoom, or through a phone call. Subjects were asked about their opinions towards aging and housing choices. Various Asian American stories reveal factors that contribute to the acceptance or rejection of aging. Through these interviews and research on cultural differences towards aging, findings indicate that personality, age, background, and health status affect one's relationship with housing choices and filial piety. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=assisted%20living" title="assisted living">assisted living</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=filial%20piety" title=" filial piety"> filial piety</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=housing%20choices" title=" housing choices"> housing choices</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=independent%20living" title=" independent living"> independent living</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/156350/housing-choices-of-asian-american-older-adults" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/156350.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">65</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">14150</span> Differences in Vitamin D Status in Caucasian and Asian Women Following Ultraviolet Radiation (UVR) Exposure</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=O.%20Hakim">O. However, the ethnic differences in 25(OH)D production remain to be fully elucidated. This study aimed to investigate the differences in vitamin D production between Asian and Caucasian postmenopausal women, in response to a defined, controlled UVB exposure. Seventeen women; nine white Caucasian (skin phototype II and III), eight South Asian women (skin phototype IV and V) participated in the study, acting as their controls. Three blood samples were taken for measurement of 25(OH)D during the run-in period (nine days, no sunbed exposure) after which all subjects underwent an identical UVR exposure protocol irrespective of skin colour (nine days, three sunbed sessions: 6, 8 and 8 minutes respectively with approximately 80% of body surface exposed). Skin tone was measured four times during the study. Both groups showed a gradual increase in 25(OH)D with final levels significantly higher than baseline (p<0.01). 25(OH)D concentration mean from a baseline of 43.58±19.65 to 57.80±17.11 nmol/l among Caucasian and from 27.03±23.92 to 44.73±17.74 nmol/l among Asian women. The baseline status of vitamin D was classified as deficient among the Asian women and insufficient among the Caucasian women. The percentage increase in vitamin D3 among Caucasians was 39.86% (21.02) and 207.78% (286.02) in Asian subjects respectively. This greater response to UVR exposure reflects the lower baseline levels of the Asian subjects. The mixed linear model analysis identified a significant effect of duration of UVR exposure on the production of 25(OH)D. However, the model shows no significant effect of ethnicity and skin tone on the production of 25(OH)D. These novel findings indicate that people of Asian ethnicity have the full capability to produce a similar amount of vitamin D compared to the Caucasian group; initial vitamin D concentration influences the amount of UVB needed to reach equal serum concentrations. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ethnicity" title="ethnicity">ethnicity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Caucasian" title=" Caucasian"> Caucasian</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=South%20Asian" title=" South Asian"> South Asian</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vitamin%20D" title=" vitamin D"> vitamin D</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ultraviolet%20radiation" title=" ultraviolet radiation"> ultraviolet radiation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=UVR" title=" UVR"> UVR</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/23996/differences-in-vitamin-d-status-in-caucasian-and-asian-women-following-ultraviolet-radiation-uvr-exposure" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/23996.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">534</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">14149</span> Hybrid Capture Resolves the Phylogeny of the Pantropically Distributed Zanthoxylum (Rutaceae) and Reveals an Old World Origin</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lee%20Ping%20Ang">Lee Ping Ang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Salvatore%20Tomasello"> Salvatore Tomasello</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jun%20Wen"> Jun Wen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Marc%20S.%20Appelhans"> Marc S. It is the only genus with a pantropical distribution. Economically, it is used in several Asian countries as traditional medicine and spice. In the past Zanthoxylum was divided into two genera, the temperate Zanthoxylum sensu strictu (s.s.) and the (sub)tropical Fagara, due to the large differences in flower morphology: heterochlamydeous in Fagara and homochlamydeous in Zanthoxylum s.s.. This genus is much under studied and previous phylogenetic studies using Sanger sequencing did not resolve the relationships sufficiently. In this study, we use Hybrid Capture with a specially designed bait set for Zanthoxylum to sequence 347 putatively single-copy genes. The taxon sampling has been largely improved as compared to previous studies and the preliminary results will be based on 371 specimens representing 133 species from all continents and major island groups. Our preliminary results reveal similar tree topology as the previous studies while providing more details to the backbone of the phylogeny. The phylogenetic tree consists of four main clades: A) African/Malagasy clade, B) Z. asiaticum clade - a clade consisting widespread species occurring in (sub)tropical Asia and Africa as well as Madagascar, C) Asian/Pacific clade and D) American clade, which also includes the temperate Asian species. The merging of Fagara and Zanthoxylum is supported by our results and the homochlamydeous flowers of Zanthoxylum s.s. are likely derived from heterochlamydeous flowers. Several of the morphologically defined sections within Zanthoxylum are not monophyletic. The study dissemination will (1) introduce the framework of this project; (2) present preliminary results and (3) the ongoing progress of the study. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zanthoxylum" title="Zanthoxylum">Zanthoxylum</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=phylogenomic" title=" phylogenomic"> phylogenomic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hybrid%20capture" title=" hybrid capture"> hybrid capture</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pantropical" title=" pantropical"> pantropical</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/177085/hybrid-capture-resolves-the-phylogeny-of-the-pantropically-distributed-zanthoxylum-rutaceae-and-reveals-an-old-world-origin" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/177085.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">72</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">14148</span> Analyzing the Impact of Global Financial Crisis on Interconnectedness of Asian Stock Markets Using Network Science</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jitendra%20Aswani">Jitendra Aswani</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In the first section of this study, impact of Global Financial Crisis (GFC) on the synchronization of fourteen Asian Stock Markets (ASM’s) of countries like Hong Kong, India, Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, South Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, China, Philippines and Sri Lanka, has been analysed using the network science and its metrics like degree of node, clustering coefficient and network density. Then in the second section of this study by introducing the US stock market in existing network and developing a Minimum Spanning Tree (MST) spread of crisis from the US stock market to Asian Stock Markets (ASM) has been explained. Data used for this study is adjusted the closing price of these indices from 6th January, 2000 to 15th September, 2013 which further divided into three sub-periods: Pre, during and post-crisis. Using network analysis, it is found that Asian stock markets become more interdependent during the crisis than pre and post crisis, and also Hong Kong, India, South Korea and Japan are systemic important stock markets in the Asian region. Therefore, failure or shock to any of these systemic important stock markets can cause contagion to another stock market of this region. This study is useful for global investors’ in portfolio management especially during the crisis period and also for policy makers in formulating the financial regulation norms by knowing the connections between the stock markets and how the system of these stock markets changes in crisis period and after that. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=global%20financial%20crisis" title="global financial crisis">global financial crisis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Asian%20stock%20markets" title=" Asian stock markets"> Asian stock markets</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=network%20science" title=" network science"> network science</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kruskal%20algorithm" title=" Kruskal algorithm"> Kruskal algorithm</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/31876/analyzing-the-impact-of-global-financial-crisis-on-interconnectedness-of-asian-stock-markets-using-network-science" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/31876.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">424</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">14147</span> Development of Disability Studies in Post-Transformational Central and East European Countries from the 80s until Present</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Klaudia%20Muca">Klaudia Muca</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Disability studies as an international movement are still developing, especially in the Central and East European young democratic countries. It is crucial to recognize in what manner this development might lead to create a sustainable social environment. Thanks to disability studies the process of introducing disability studies and its main ideas might become as effective as in the 90s in the USA or other Western countries. In the Central and East Europe lack of activism in favor of the disabled in the early stages of democratic transition (i.e. the 80s and 90s) caused misrepresentation of the disabled and their experience in present political and social sphere of life. People with disabilities were made to hold a minor position in society due to political changes that introduced in fact non-equal democracy. The results of this study indicate that activism in favor of people with disabilities and works of art created by the disabled are tools that influence present disability politics. That suggests that young European democracies need to modify their current political path in order to establish more equal social policies. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=democratic%20transformation" title="democratic transformation">democratic transformation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=disability%20as%20minority" title=" disability as minority"> disability as minority</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=misrepresentation%20of%20experience" title=" misrepresentation of experience"> misrepresentation of experience</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=non-equal%20democracy" title=" non-equal democracy"> non-equal democracy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sustainability" title=" sustainability"> sustainability</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/90737/development-of-disability-studies-in-post-transformational-central-and-east-european-countries-from-the-80s-until-present" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/90737.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">188</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">14146</span> Prevalence of Depression among Post Stroke Survivors in South Asian Region: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Roseminu%20Varghese">Roseminu Varghese</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Laveena%20Anitha%20Barboza"> Laveena Anitha Barboza</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jyothi%20Chakrabarty"> Jyothi Chakrabarty</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ravishankar"> Ravishankar</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Depression among post-stroke survivors is prevalent, but it is unidentified. The German people and German products are valued and generate a positive response in South Asia. The main objective of this research is to evaluate and analyze various dimensions of a Such Comparative Study of Geography (German & Pakistan). Basically, Germany is located in Central Europe; it has common borders with Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Switzerland, Austria, the Czech Republic and Poland, Its total area is around 356,854 sq km. Pakistan has a strategic geo-political location at the corridor of the world's major maritime oil supply lines and has close proximity to the resource and oil-rich Central Asian countries. Germany and Pakistan enjoy intimately cordial relations. Germany has taken large measures to aid the south Asian countries in its economic and governmental hardship. Commercial trade between Berlin and Islamabad has also been essential as Germany is Pakistan’s fourth largest trade partner, also Germany is home to 35,081 Pakistani immigrants overall, and the two nations have almost always had a friendly bond. The aim of this research is to initiate fruitful discussions about appropriate strategies and actions in the face of the economic and geopolitical challenges faced by Pakistan and the role that societies of each country can play in assisting the region in overcoming its problems. The research would aim to serve as a facilitator for developing collaborative research projects between different institutions and disciplines in the Germany and Pakistan institutions. This is important, as the issues of poverty, illiteracy, unemployment and social inequities need to be understood properly. Though geographically far apart from each other and not having gone through the experience that the Asian states had undergone in their relations with the Portuguese, Dutch, French and English. Pakistan and Germany did not have to forget any unpleasant memories of a colonial past. On the contrary, the freedom fighters of the Indo-Pak subcontinent did not make secret of their sympathy-nay-admiration for Germany, which, though defeated in World War I and World War II by Anglo-French and Anglo-American blocs respectively, had shaken the British and French empires to their foundation in the protracted wars. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=relations" title="relations">relations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cultural" title=" cultural"> cultural</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=socio%20economic" title=" socio economic"> socio economic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bilateral%20agreement" title=" bilateral agreement"> bilateral agreement</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/186869/germany-pakistan-relations-1960-2015-an-analytical-study" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/186869.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">38</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">14143</span> Economic Integration vs. Conflicts in Northeast Asia</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Heeho%20Kim">Heeho Kim</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Byeong-Hae%20Sohn"> Byeong-Hae Sohn</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This study has examined the culture commonality of Northeast Asian countries based on Confucian values, and their relations to institutional economic integration. This study demonstrates that Confucian values inherent in the Northeast Asian countries have served as the cultural ethos for the rapid economic growth of this region since the 1960s and will be able to form the foundation of Northeast Asian values in the future. This paper re-appreciates these cultural values as a necessary condition for regional integration to catalyze the stagnated discussions about economic integration and extends its inter-weaving connection role for intra-regional transaction among China, Japan and Korea. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Confucianism" title="Confucianism">Confucianism</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Northeast%20Asia" title=" Northeast Asia"> Northeast Asia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=economic%20integration" title=" economic integration"> economic integration</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=economic%20growth" title=" economic growth"> economic growth</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=regional%20conflicts" title=" regional conflicts "> regional conflicts </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/14838/economic-integration-vs-conflicts-in-northeast-asia" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/14838.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">447</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">14142</span> A Comparative Study of Dividend Policy and Share Price across the South Asian Countries</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Anwar%20Hussain">Anwar Hussain</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ahmed%20Imran"> Ahmed Imran</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Farida%20Faisal"> Farida Faisal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fatima%20Sultana"> Fatima Sultana</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The present research evaluates a comparative assessment of dividend policy and share price across the South Asian countries including Pakistan, India and Sri-Lanka over the period of 2010 to 2014.
