The psalmist seeks to be remembered by God, which in biblical terms implies being the recipient of God's active concern and intervention. In the Old Testament, God "remembering" often precedes divine action, as seen in Genesis 8:1 when God remembered Noah and the animals in the ark, leading to the cessation of the flood. The request for remembrance is a humble acknowledgment of dependence on God's grace and mercy.
in Your favor to Your people;
The psalmist appeals to God's favor, which is His gracious and benevolent disposition towards His covenant people, Israel. This favor is rooted in the covenant promises made to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and is a recurring theme throughout the Old Testament. The favor of God is often associated with His blessings, protection, and guidance. The psalmist identifies himself with the community of God's people, seeking the same favor that has been historically extended to them, as seen in passages like Exodus 33:13, where Moses asks to find favor in God's sight.
visit me with Your salvation,
The request for God to "visit" implies a desire for divine intervention and deliverance. In biblical terms, God's visitation can bring judgment or blessing, but here it is clearly a plea for salvation. This salvation is not merely physical deliverance but encompasses spiritual redemption and restoration. The concept of salvation is central to the biblical narrative, culminating in the New Testament with the coming of Jesus Christ, who is seen as the ultimate fulfillment of God's promise of salvation. The psalmist's plea anticipates the messianic hope found in scriptures like Isaiah 53, where the suffering servant brings salvation to God's people.
Persons / Places / Events
1. The Psalmist
The author of Psalm 106, traditionally attributed to David, who is expressing a personal plea to God for remembrance and salvation.

2. The LORD (Yahweh)
The covenant-keeping God of Israel, who is being petitioned for favor and salvation.

3. God's People (Israel)
The nation of Israel, whom God has chosen and shown favor to throughout history.

4. Salvation
The deliverance and redemption that the Psalmist seeks, both in a temporal and spiritual sense.

5. Favor
The grace and kindness that God extends to His people, which the Psalmist desires to experience personally.
Teaching Points
Seeking God's Favor
As believers, we should earnestly seek God's favor, understanding that His grace is essential for our spiritual journey.

Personal Relationship with God
The Psalmist's plea highlights the importance of a personal relationship with God, where we can confidently ask for His attention and intervention.

God's Faithfulness
Trust in God's faithfulness to remember and care for His people, as He has done throughout history.

Salvation as a Gift
Recognize that salvation is a gift from God, not earned by our works, but granted through His grace and favor.

Prayer as Communication
Use prayer as a means to communicate our deepest desires and needs to God, trusting in His ability to respond.
Lists and Questions
Top 10 Lessons from Psalm 106

What does 'life is a vapor' mean?

If Psalm 41:11 suggests triumph over enemies is evidence of God's favor, how can it be reconciled with godly individuals who appear to be defeated?

Why is God said to exalt 'the horn of his people' only for Israel, excluding other nations?
