href=\"#name\"><code>name</code></a> attribute is set, the <code><meta></code> element provides <em>document-level metadata</em>, applying to the whole page.</li>\n <li>If the <a href=\"#http-equiv\"><code>http-equiv</code></a> attribute is set, the <code><meta></code> element is a <em>pragma directive</em>, providing information equivalent to what can be given by a similarly-named HTTP header.</li>\n <li>If the <a href=\"#charset\"><code>charset</code></a> attribute is set, the <code><meta></code> element is a <em>charset declaration</em>, giving the character encoding in which the document is encoded.</li>\n <li>If the <a href=\"/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Global_attributes/itemprop\"><code>itemprop</code></a> attribute is set, the <code><meta></code> element If the attribute is present, its value must be an ASCII case-insensitive match for the string <code>\"utf-8\"</code>, because UTF-8 is the only valid encoding for HTML5 documents. <code><meta></code> elements which declare a character encoding must be located entirely within the first 1024 bytes of the document.</p>\n </dd>\n <dt id=\"content\"><a href=\"#content\"><code>content</code></a></dt>\n <dd>\n <p>This attribute contains the value for the <a href=\"#http-equiv\"><code>http-equiv</code></a> or <a href=\"#name\"><code>name</code></a> attribute, depending on which is used.</p>\n </dd>\n <dt id=\"http-equiv\"><a href=\"#http-equiv\"><code>http-equiv</code></a></dt>\n <dd>\n <p>Defines a pragma directive. The attribute's name, short for <code>http-equivalent</code>, is because all the allowed values are names of particular HTTP headers:</p>\n <dl>\n <dt id=\"content-security-policy\"><a href=\"#content-security-policy\"><code>content-security-policy</code></a></dt>\n <dd>\n <p>Allows page authors to define a <a href=\"/en-US/docs/Web/HTTP/Headers/Content-Security-Policy\">content policy</a> for the current page.
