The preparation of this run is challenging not only because a new ion species will be used, but also because the beam commissioning will have to be done in a record time - a couple of months of beam commissioning in the injectors, and one week of collisions in the LHC. The operation of oxygen beams in the accelerator complex brings radiation hazards that require the installation of new personnel protection devices and interlocks. The new ion species is also characterised by new beam dynamics behaviour that will have to be studied in terms of space charge and intra-beam scattering. In order to address the feasibility of the oxygen beam operation across the Ion Injector Complex, and provide estimates of beam performance, a project was mandated by the ATS directorate. The studies performed, the results obtained, and the budget and deadlines allocated to the project are described in this note. The preparation of this run is challenging not only because a new ion species will be used, but also because the beam commissioning will have to be done in a record time - a couple of months of beam commissioning in the injectors, and one week of collisions in the LHC. The operation of oxygen beams in the accelerator complex brings radiation hazards that require the installation of new personnel protection devices and interlocks. The new ion species is also characterised by new beam dynamics behaviour that will have to be studied in terms of space charge and intra-beam scattering. In order to address the feasibility of the oxygen beam operation across the Ion Injector Complex, and provide estimates of beam performance, a project was mandated by the ATS directorate.
