Terrorist groups continue to exploit local grievances in the region to maximize their influence, expand their operations, and recruit vulnerable individuals to further their dangerous goals and ambitions. The continent, thusly, continues to be a <a href="https://www.thegctf.org/What-we-do/Ministerial-Plenary/ArtMID/813/ArticleID/297/Ministers-renew-Forum%e2%80%99s-commitment-to-Africa">key point of focus for the GCTF</a> in its efforts to support counterterrorism efforts through capacity-building.</p> <p style="text-align:justify; margin-left:48px">As the main implementing arm of the Forum, the <a href="https://www.thegctf.org/About-us/Inspired_Institutions">GCTF-Inspired Institutions</a> – the Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund (GCERF); <i>Hedayah</i><a>, </a>the International Center of Excellence for Countering Extremism & Violent Extremism; and The International Institute for Justice and the Rule of Law (IIJ) – carry out several instrumental programs on the African continent to build capacity against terrorism and violent extremism conducive to terrorism through funding, training, and policy advice.</p> <p style="margin-left:48px; text-align:justify">To visually communicate the impact and engagement of their work past and present on the continent, the GCTF has created an interactive map of Africa which highlights who carries out which activity, where the programs are concentrated, and why intervention is necessary among other details. For example, hovering over Nigeria reveals that GCERF, <i>Hedayah</i>, and the IIJ have each implemented at least one activity in the country along with each activity’s name and duration.</p> <p style="margin-left:48px; text-align:justify">This interactive map is a dynamic and engaging representation of the necessary and impactful work of the GCTF-Inspired Institutions in Africa. First unveiled on 27 September 2024 at the 14<sup>th</sup> Ministerial Plenary Meeting in New York City, we are proud to share it externally as a testament to the strides being made in preventing and countering terrorism and violent extremism conducive to terrorism on the continent.
