he <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>mounted<MH5927> its lamps<MH5216> at the front<MH6440> of the lampstand<MH4501>, just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> the LORD<MH3068> had commanded<MH6680> Moses<MH4872>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/8-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>Now this<MH2088> was the workmanship<MH4639> of the lampstand<MH4501>, hammered<MH4749> work<MH4749> of gold<MH2091>; from its base<MH3409> to its flower<MH6525> ornamentation<MH6525> it was hammered<MH4749> work<MH4749>; according to the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>pattern<MH4758> which<MH834> the LORD<MH3068> had shown<MH7200> Moses<MH4872>, so<MH3651> he made<MH6213a> the lampstand<MH4501>. <p class="hdg">Cleansing the Levites</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/8-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>Again the LORD<MH3068> spoke<MH1696> to Moses<MH4872>, saying<MH559>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/8-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>“Take<MH3947> the Levites<MH3881> from among<MH8432> the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> and cleanse<MH2891> them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/8-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> you shall do<MH6213a> to them, for their cleansing<MH2891>: sprinkle<MH5137a> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>purifying<MH2891> water<MH4325> on them, and have them <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>use<MH5674a> a razor<MH8593> over<MH5921> their whole<MH3605> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>body<MH1320>, and they shall wash<MH3526> their clothes<MH899b> and cleanse<MH2891> themselves. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/8-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>Then have them take<MH3947> a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>bull<MH6499, 1121, 1241> with its grain offering<MH4503>, fine<MH5560> flour<MH5560> mixed<MH1101a> with oil<MH8081>; and you shall take<MH3947> a second<MH8145> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>bull<MH6499> as a sin<MH2403b> offering<MH2403b>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/8-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>So you shall present<MH7126> the Levites<MH3881> in front<MH6440> of the tent<MH168> of meeting<MH4150>. You shall also assemble<MH6950> the whole<MH3605> congregation<MH5712> of the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/8-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>and present<MH7126> the Levites<MH3881> before<MH6440> the LORD<MH3068>; and the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> shall lay<MH5564> their hands<MH3027> on the Levites<MH3881>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/8-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>Aaron<MH175> then shall <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>present<MH5130> the Levites<MH3881> before<MH6440> the LORD<MH3068> as a wave<MH8573> offering<MH8573> from the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>, so that they may <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>qualify<MH1961> to perform<MH5647> the service<MH5656> of the LORD<MH3068>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/8-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>Now the Levites<MH3881> shall lay<MH5564> their hands<MH3027> on the heads<MH7218> of the bulls<MH6499>; then you are to offer<MH6213a> the one<MH259> as a sin<MH2403b> offering<MH2403b> and the other<MH259> as a burnt<MH5930a> offering<MH5930a> to the LORD<MH3068>, to make<MH3722a> atonement<MH3722a> for the Levites<MH3881>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/8-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>And you shall have the Levites<MH3881> stand<MH5975> before<MH6440> Aaron<MH175> and his sons<MH1121> so as to present<MH5130> them as a wave<MH8573> offering<MH8573> to the LORD<MH3068>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/8-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>“So you shall single<MH914> out<MH914> the Levites<MH3881> from among<MH8432> the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>, and the Levites<MH3881> shall be Mine. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/8-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>Then after<MH310> that the Levites<MH3881> may go<MH935> in<MH935> to serve<MH5647> the tent<MH168> of meeting<MH4150>. But you shall cleanse<MH2891> them and present<MH5130> them as a wave<MH8573> offering<MH8573>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/8-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>for they are exclusively<MH5414> given<MH5414> to Me from among<MH8432> the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>. I have taken<MH3947> them for Myself instead<MH8478> of<MH8478> the firstborn<MH6363b> of every<MH3605> womb<MH7358>, the firstborn<MH1060> of all<MH3605> the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/8-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>For every<MH3605> firstborn<MH1060> among the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> is Mine, among the people<MH120> and among the animals<MH929>; on the day<MH3117> that I fatally<MH5221> struck<MH5221> all<MH3605> the firstborn<MH1060> in the land<MH776> of Egypt<MH4714>, I sanctified<MH6942> them for Myself. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/8-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>But I have taken<MH3947> the Levites<MH3881> instead<MH8478> of<MH8478> every<MH3605> firstborn<MH1060> among the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/8-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>And I have given<MH5414> the Levites<MH3881> as <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>a gift<MH5414> to Aaron<MH175> and to his sons<MH1121> from among<MH8432> the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>, to perform<MH5647> the service<MH5656> of the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> at the tent<MH168> of meeting<MH4150> and to make<MH3722a> atonement<MH3722a> on<MH5921> behalf<MH5921> of<MH5921> the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>, so that there will be no<MH3808> affliction<MH5063> among the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> due to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>their approaching<MH5066> the sanctuary<MH6944>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/8-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>So <i>this is what</i> Moses<MH4872>, Aaron<MH175>, and all<MH3605> the congregation<MH5712> of the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> did<MH6213a> to the Levites<MH3881>; according to everything<MH3605> that the LORD<MH3068> had commanded<MH6680> Moses<MH4872> regarding the Levites<MH3881>, so<MH3651> the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> did<MH6213a> to them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/8-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>The Levites<MH3881>, too, purified<MH2398> themselves from<MH2398> sin<MH2398> and washed<MH3526> their clothes<MH899b>; and Aaron<MH175> presented<MH5130> them as a wave<MH8573> offering<MH8573> before<MH6440> the LORD<MH3068>. Aaron<MH175> also made<MH3722a> atonement<MH3722a> for them to cleanse<MH2891> them. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/8-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>Then after<MH310> that the Levites<MH3881> went<MH935> in<MH935> to perform<MH5647> their service<MH5656> in the tent<MH168> of meeting<MH4150> before<MH6440> Aaron<MH175> and his sons<MH1121>; just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> the LORD<MH3068> had commanded<MH6680> Moses<MH4872> concerning<MH5921> the Levites<MH3881>, so<MH3651> they did<MH6213a> to them. <p class="hdg">Retirement for the Levites</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/8-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>Now the LORD<MH3068> spoke<MH1696> to Moses<MH4872>, saying<MH559>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/8-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>“This<MH2088> is what<MH834> <i>applies</i> to the Levites<MH3881>: from twenty-five<MH6242, 2568> years<MH8141> old<MH1121> and upward<MH4605> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>they shall enter<MH935> to perform<MH6633> service<MH6635> in the work<MH5656> of the tent<MH168> of meeting<MH4150>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/8-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>But at the age<MH1121> of fifty<MH2572> years<MH8141> they shall <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>retire<MH7725> from service<MH6635> in the work<MH5656> and not work<MH5647> anymore<MH5750>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/8-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>They may, however, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>assist<MH8334> their brothers<MH251> in the tent<MH168> of meeting<MH4150>, to fulfill<MH8104> an obligation<MH4931>, but they <i>themselves</i> shall do<MH5647> no<MH3808> work<MH5656>.
