And the sons<MH1121> of Dedan<MH1719> were Asshurim<MH805b>, Letushim<MH3912>, and Leummim<MH3817>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/25-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>The sons<MH1121> of Midian<MH4080> <i>were</i> Ephah<MH5891>, Epher<MH6081>, Hanoch<MH2585>, Abida<MH28>, and Eldaah<MH420>. All<MH3605> of these<MH428> <i>were</i> the sons<MH1121> of Keturah<MH6989>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/25-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>Now Abraham<MH85> gave<MH5414> all<MH3605> that he had to Isaac<MH3327>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/25-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>but to the sons<MH1121> of <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>his concubines<MH6370>, Abraham<MH85> gave<MH5414> gifts<MH4979> while he was still<MH5750> living<MH2416a>, and sent<MH7971> them away<MH7971> from his son<MH1121> Isaac<MH3327> eastward<MH6924b>, to the land<MH776> of the east<MH6924a>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/25-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>These<MH428> are <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>all<MH3117> the years<MH8141> of Abraham’s<MH85> life<MH2425b> that he lived<MH2421a>, 175<MH3967, 7657> years<MH8141>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/25-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>Abraham<MH85> breathed<MH1478> his last<MH1478> and died<MH4191> at a good<MH2896a> old<MH7872> age<MH7872>, an old<MH2205> man<MH2205> and satisfied<MH7649> <i>with life;</i> and he was gathered<MH622> to his people<MH5971b>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/25-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Then his sons<MH1121> Isaac<MH3327> and Ishmael<MH3458> buried<MH6912> him in the cave<MH4631> of Machpelah<MH4375>, in the field<MH7704> of Ephron<MH6085> the son<MH1121> of Zohar<MH6714> the Hittite<MH2850>, facing<MH5921, 6440> Mamre<MH4471>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/25-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>the field<MH7704> which<MH834> Abraham<MH85> purchased<MH7069> from the sons<MH1121> of Heth<MH2845>; there<MH8033> Abraham<MH85> was buried<MH6912> with his wife<MH802> Sarah<MH8283>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/25-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>It came<MH1961> about<MH1961> after<MH310> the death<MH4194> of Abraham<MH85>, that God<MH430> blessed<MH1288> his son<MH1121> Isaac<MH3327>; and Isaac<MH3327> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>lived<MH3427> by Beer-lahai-roi<MH883>. <p class="hdg">Descendants of Ishmael</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/25-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>Now these<MH428> are <i>the records of</i> the generations<MH8435> of Ishmael<MH3458>, Abraham’s<MH85> son<MH1121>, whom<MH834> Hagar<MH1904> the Egyptian<MH4713>, Sarah’s<MH8283> slave<MH8198> woman<MH8198>, bore<MH3205> to Abraham<MH85>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/25-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>and these<MH428> are the names<MH8034> of the sons<MH1121> of Ishmael<MH3458>, by their names<MH8034>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>in the order<MH8435> of<MH8435> their birth<MH8435>: Nebaioth<MH5032>, the firstborn<MH1060> of Ishmael<MH3458>, Kedar<MH6938>, Adbeel<MH110>, Mibsam<MH4017>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/25-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Mishma<MH4927>, Dumah<MH1746>, Massa<MH4854>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/25-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>Hadad<MH2301>, Tema<MH8485>, Jetur<MH3195>, Naphish<MH5305>, and Kedemah<MH6929>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/25-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>These<MH428> are the sons<MH1121> of Ishmael<MH3458> and these<MH428> are their names<MH8034>, by their villages<MH2691b>, and by their camps<MH2918>; twelve<MH8147, 6240> princes<MH5387a> according to their <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>tribes<MH523>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/25-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>These<MH428> are the years<MH8141> of the life<MH2425b> of Ishmael<MH3458>, 137<MH3967, 7970, 7651> years<MH8141>; and he breathed<MH1478> his last<MH1478> and died<MH4191>, and was gathered<MH622> to his people<MH5971b>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/25-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>They <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>settled<MH7931> from Havilah<MH2341> to Shur<MH7793> which<MH834> is <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>east<MH5921, 6440> of Egypt<MH4714> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>going<MH935> toward Assyria<MH804b>; he <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>settled<MH5307> in<MH5921, 6440> defiance<MH5921, 6440> of all<MH3605> his relatives<MH251>. <p class="hdg">Isaac’s Sons</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/25-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>Now these<MH428> are <i>the records of</i> the generations<MH8435> of Isaac<MH3327>, Abraham’s<MH85> son<MH1121>: Abraham<MH85> fathered<MH3205> Isaac<MH3327>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/25-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>and Isaac<MH3327> was forty<MH705> years<MH8141> old<MH1121> when he took<MH3947> Rebekah<MH7259>, the daughter<MH1323> of Bethuel<MH1328a> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>Aramean<MH761> of Paddan-aram<MH6307>, the sister<MH269> of Laban<MH3837a> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>Aramean<MH761>, to be his wife<MH802>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/25-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>Isaac<MH3327> prayed<MH6279> to the LORD<MH3068> on behalf<MH5227> of his wife<MH802>, because<MH3588> she was unable<MH6135> to<MH6135> have<MH6135> children<MH6135>; and the LORD<MH3068> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>answered<MH6279> him, and his wife<MH802> Rebekah<MH7259> conceived<MH2029>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/25-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>But the children<MH1121> struggled<MH7533> together within<MH7130> her; and she said<MH559>, “If<MH518> it is so<MH3651>, why<MH4100> am I <i>in</i> this <i>condition?</i>” So she went<MH1980> to inquire<MH1875> of the LORD<MH3068>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/25-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>And the LORD<MH3068> said<MH559> to her, <p class="indent1stline">“Two<MH8147> nations<MH1471> are in your womb<MH990>; <t><p class="indent1">And two<MH8147> peoples<MH3816> will be separated<MH6504> from your body<MH4578>; <t><p class="indent1">And one people<MH3816> will be<MH553> stronger<MH553> than<MH4480> the other<MH3816>; but Jacob<MH3290> was a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>civilized<MH8535> man<MH376>, living<MH3427> in tents<MH168>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/25-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>Now Isaac<MH3327> loved<MH157> Esau<MH6215> because<MH3588> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>he had a taste<MH6310> for game<MH6718a>; but Rebekah<MH7259> loved<MH157> Jacob<MH3290>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/25-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>When Jacob<MH3290> had cooked<MH2102> a stew<MH5138> <i>one day,</i> Esau<MH6215> came<MH935> in<MH935> from the field<MH7704> and he was exhausted<MH5889>;
