Kroonenberg</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The Kura River is the major water artery in the Southern Caucasus; it is a third river in the Caspian Sea basin in terms of length and size of the catchment area, the second in terms of the water budget, and the first in the volume of sediment load. Understanding of major controls on the Kura fluvial- deltaic system is valuable for efficient management of the highly populated river basin and coastal zone. We have studied grain size of sediments accumulated in the river channels and delta and dated by 210Pb method, astrophotographs, old topographic and geological maps, and archive data. At present time sediments are supplied by the Kura River to the Caspian Sea through three distributary channels oriented north-east, south-east, and south-west. The river is dominated by the suspended load - mud, silt, very fine sand. Coarse sediments are accumulated in the distributaries, levees, point bar, and delta front. The annual suspended sediment budget in the time period 1934-1952 before construction of the Mingechavir water reservoir in 1953 in the Kura River midstream area was 36 mln.t/yr. From 1953 to 1964, the suspended load has dropped to 12 mln.t/yr. After regulation of the Kura River discharge the volume of suspended load transported via north-eastern channel reduced from 35% of the total sediment amount to 4%, and through the main south-eastern channel increased from 65% to 96% with further fall to 56% due to creation of new south-western channel in 1964. Between 1967-1976 the annual sediment budget of the Kura River reached 22,5 mln. t/yr. From 1977 to 1986, the sediment load carried by the Kura River dropped to 17,6 mln.t/yr. The historical data show that between 1860 and 1907, during relatively stable Caspian Sea level two channels - N and SE, appear to have distributed an equal amount of sediments as seen from the bilateral geometry of the delta. In the time period 1907-1929, two new channels - E and NE, appeared. The growth of three delta lobes - N, NE, and SE, and rapid progradation of the delta has occurred on the background of the Caspian Sea level rise as a result of very high sediment supply. Since 1929 the Caspian Sea level decline was followed by the progradation of the delta occurring along the SE channel. The eastern and northern channels have been silted up. The slow rate of progradation at its initial stage was caused by the artificial reduction in the sediment budget. However, the continuous sea-level fall has brought to this river bed gradient increase, high erosional rate, increase in the sediment supply, and more rapid progradation. During the subsequent sea-level rise after 1977 accompanied by the decrease in the sediment budget, the southern part of the delta has turned into a complex of small, shallow channels oriented to the south. The data demonstrate that behaviour of the Kura fluvial – deltaic system and variations in the sediment budget besides anthropogenic regulation are strongly governed by the Caspian Sea level very rapid changes. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=anthropogenic%20control%20on%20sediment%20budget" title="anthropogenic control on sediment budget">anthropogenic control on sediment budget</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Caspian%20sea-level%20variations" title=" Caspian sea-level variations"> Caspian sea-level variations</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kura%20river%20sediment%20load" title=" Kura river sediment load"> Kura river sediment load</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=morphology%20of%20the%20Kura%20river%20delta" title=" morphology of the Kura river delta"> morphology of the Kura river delta</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sedimentation%20in%20the%20Kura%20river%20delta" title=" sedimentation in the Kura river delta"> sedimentation in the Kura river delta</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/123496/sedimentation-and-morphology-of-the-kura-river-deltaic-system-in-the-southern-caucasus-under-anthropogenic-and-sea-level-controls" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/123496.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">155</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2607</span> Digital Joint Equivalent Channel Hybrid Precoding for Millimeterwave Massive Multiple Input Multiple Output Systems</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Linyu%20Wang">Linyu Wang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mingjun%20Zhu"> Mingjun Zhu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jianhong%20Xiang"> Jianhong Xiang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hanyu%20Jiang"> Hanyu Jiang</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Aiming at the problem that the spectral efficiency of hybrid precoding (HP) is too low in the current millimeter wave (mmWave) massive multiple input multiple output (MIMO) system, this paper proposes a digital joint equivalent channel hybrid precoding algorithm, which is based on the introduction of digital encoding matrix iteration. First, the objective function is expanded to obtain the relation equation, and the pseudo-inverse iterative function of the analog encoder is derived by using the pseudo-inverse method, which solves the problem of greatly increasing the amount of computation caused by the lack of rank of the digital encoding matrix and reduces the overall complexity of hybrid precoding. Secondly, the analog coding matrix and the millimeter-wave sparse channel matrix are combined into an equivalent channel, and then the equivalent channel is subjected to Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) to obtain a digital coding matrix, and then the derived pseudo-inverse iterative function is used to iteratively regenerate the simulated encoding matrix. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm improves the system spectral efficiency by 10~20%compared with other algorithms and the stability is also improved. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mmWave" title="mmWave">mmWave</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=massive%20MIMO" title=" massive MIMO"> massive MIMO</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hybrid%20precoding" title=" hybrid precoding"> hybrid precoding</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=singular%20value%20decompositing" title=" singular value decompositing"> singular value decompositing</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=equivalent%20channel" title=" equivalent channel"> equivalent channel</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/156149/digital-joint-equivalent-channel-hybrid-precoding-for-millimeterwave-massive-multiple-input-multiple-output-systems" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/156149.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">96</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2606</span> A Simple and Easy-To-Use Tool for Detecting Outer Contour of Leukocytes Based on Image Processing Techniques</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Retno%20Supriyanti">Retno Supriyanti</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Best%20Leader%20Nababan"> Best Leader Nababan</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yogi%20Ramadhani"> Yogi Ramadhani</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wahyu%20Siswandari"> Wahyu Siswandari</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Blood cell morphology is an important parameter in a hematology test. Currently, in developing countries, a lot of hematology is done manually, either by physicians or laboratory staff. According to the limitation of the human eye, examination based on manual method will result in a lower precision and accuracy. In addition, the hematology test by manual will further complicate the diagnosis in some areas that do not have competent medical personnel. This research aims to develop a simple tool in the detection of blood cell morphology-based computer. In this paper, we focus on the detection of the outer contour of leukocytes. The results show that the system that we developed is promising for detecting blood cell morphology automatically. It is expected, by implementing this method, the problem of accuracy, precision and limitations of the medical staff can be solved. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=morphology%20operation" title="morphology operation">morphology operation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=developing%20countries" title=" developing countries"> developing countries</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hematology%20test" title=" hematology test"> hematology test</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=limitation%20of%20medical%20personnel" title=" limitation of medical personnel"> limitation of medical personnel</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/66702/a-simple-and-easy-to-use-tool-for-detecting-outer-contour-of-leukocytes-based-on-image-processing-techniques" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/66702.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">339</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2605</span> Computational Approach to the Interaction of Neurotoxins and Kv1.3 Channel</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Janneth%20Gonz%C3%A1lez">Janneth González</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=George%20Barreto"> George Barreto</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ludis%20Morales"> Ludis Morales</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ang%C3%A9lica%20Sabogal"> Angélica Sabogal</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Sea anemone neurotoxins are peptides that interact with Na+ and K+ channels, resulting in specific alterations on their functions. Some of these neurotoxins (1ROO, 1BGK, 2K9E, 1BEI) are important for the treatment of nearly eighty autoimmune disorders due to their specificity for Kv1.3 channel. The aim of this study was to identify the common residues among these neurotoxins by computational methods, and establish whether there is a pattern useful for the future generation of a treatment for autoimmune diseases. Our results showed eight new key common residues between the studied neurotoxins interacting with a histidine ring and the selectivity filter of the receptor, thus showing a possible pattern of interaction. Joint surface morphology was observed, and both arc line spacing and flash were measured. Study is carried out on the effect of pin, shoulder and eccentricity of the tool on the surface topography of the joint and the formation of the joint surface topography is analyzed. It is found that, eccentric squeezing action of the tool is the mainly motive power to form arc lines contour and flash structure. Little flash appears in the advancing side but with severe deformation, while the flash in the retreating side is heavy but with soft deformation. The pin of tool has a deep impact on the flash on the advancing side of the joints. Shoulder can widen the arc lines, refine arcs structure, reduce flash in the retreat side, but will increase the flash in the advancing side. Increasing the amount of eccentricity, it has litter effect on the arc line spacing but will destroy the arc lines morphology in the joint surface and promote the formation of filamentous flash structure in the joint. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=FSJ" title="FSJ">FSJ</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=surface%20morphology" title=" surface morphology"> surface morphology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tool" title=" tool"> tool</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=joint" title=" joint "> joint </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/29621/the-effect-of-tool-type-on-surface-morphology-of-fsj-joint" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/29621.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">363</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2603</span> Channel Dynamics along the Northern Bank of the Upper Brahmaputra River and Formation of a Larger Island with the Loss of the Majuli Island</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Luna%20Moni%20Das">Luna Moni Das</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper is an attempt to study the channel dynamics in the area bounded by the foothills of the eastern Himalayas in the north, the Brahmaputra in the south and southeast and eastern side and the Subansiri River in the west. There are many streams in this region and only a few are perennial. There are two major anabranches of the Brahmaputra called Kharkutia Xuti and Charikoria. All of these makes it a very dynamic area. The analysis done in this paper is based on the remote sensing data and mapping of the channel planforms in GIS environment. The temporal trend of the change in channel planform has been produced. This study shows that, during the period from 1973 to 2013, the streams/rivers originating in the north have experienced a reduction in the total length. The other most important result is that even though the western edge of Majuli Island is eroding faster there is a formation of a larger island in between Charikoria and Brahmaputra, that comprises of Majuli island and parts of Dhakuakhana subdivision of Lakhimpur District along the south of Charikoria river. The field study shows that the Kharkutia Xuti, that divides Majuli from Dhakuakhana, do not experience any flow from the Brahmaputra for the major portion of the year and Charikoria has developed as a major anabranch of the Brahmaputra. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=channel%20dynamics" title="channel dynamics">channel dynamics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Brahmaputra%20river" title=" Brahmaputra river"> Brahmaputra river</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Majuli%20Island" title=" Majuli Island"> Majuli Island</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sinuosity" title=" sinuosity"> sinuosity</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/102830/channel-dynamics-along-the-northern-bank-of-the-upper-brahmaputra-river-and-formation-of-a-larger-island-with-the-loss-of-the-majuli-island" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/102830.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">123</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2602</span> Influence of Nanoparticles Phenomena on the Peristaltic Flow of Pseudoplastic Fluid in an Inclined Asymmetric Channel with Different Wave Forms</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Safia%20Akram">Safia Akram</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The influence of nanofluid with different waveforms in the presence of inclined asymmetric channel on peristaltic transport of a pseudoplastic fluid is examined. It was found, that the magnitude value of the velocity profile decreases with an increase in volume flow rate (Q) and relaxation times (ζ) and increases in sinusoidal, multisinusoidal, trapezoidal and triangular waves. It was also observed that the size of the trapping bolus decreases with the drop of the width of the channel ‘d’ and increases with a rise of relaxation times ζ. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nanofluid%20particles" title="nanofluid particles">nanofluid particles</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=peristaltic%20flow" title=" peristaltic flow"> peristaltic flow</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pseudoplastic%20fluid" title=" pseudoplastic fluid"> pseudoplastic fluid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=different%20waveforms" title=" different waveforms"> different waveforms</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=inclined%20asymmetric%20channel" title=" inclined asymmetric channel"> inclined asymmetric channel</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/71251/influence-of-nanoparticles-phenomena-on-the-peristaltic-flow-of-pseudoplastic-fluid-in-an-inclined-asymmetric-channel-with-different-wave-forms" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/71251.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">237</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2601</span> Simulation of a Pressure Driven Based Subsonic Steady Gaseous Flow inside a Micro Channel Using Direct Simulation Monte-Carlo Method</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Asghar%20Ebrahimi">Asghar Ebrahimi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elyas%20Lakzian"> Elyas Lakzian</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> For the analysis of flow inside micro geometries, classical CFD methods can not accurately predict the behavior of flow. Accuracy of simulation is guaranteed by choosing proper cell dimension and number of particle per cell analysis. Also, results of simulation are compared with the results of reliable references. Good agreement with results certifies the correctness of new boundary condition implemented on the micro channel. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pressure%20boundary%20condition" title="pressure boundary condition">pressure boundary condition</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=DSMC" title=" DSMC"> DSMC</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=micro%20channel" title=" micro channel"> micro channel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cell%20dimension" title=" cell dimension"> cell dimension</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=particle%20per%20cell" title=" particle per cell"> particle per cell</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/20808/simulation-of-a-pressure-driven-based-subsonic-steady-gaseous-flow-inside-a-micro-channel-using-direct-simulation-monte-carlo-method" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/20808.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">478</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2600</span> A Cellular Automaton Model Examining the Effects of Oxygen, Hydrogen Ions, and Lactate on Early Tumour Growth</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maymona%20Al-Husari">Maymona Al-Husari</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Craig%20Murdoch"> Craig Murdoch</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Steven%20Webb"> Steven Webb </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Some tumors are known to exhibit an extracellular pH that is more acidic than the intracellular, creating a 'reversed pH gradient' across the cell membrane and this has been shown to affect their invasive and metastatic potential. Tumour hypoxia also plays an important role in tumour development and has been directly linked to both tumour morphology and aggressiveness. In this paper, we present a hybrid mathematical model of intracellular pH regulation that examines the effect of oxygen and pH on tumour growth and morphology. In particular, we investigate the impact of pH regulatory mechanisms on the cellular pH gradient and tumour morphology. Analysis of the model shows that: low activity of the Na+/H+ exchanger or a high rate of anaerobic glycolysis can give rise to a 'fingering' tumour morphology; and a high activity of the lactate/H+ symporter can result in a reversed transmembrane pH gradient across a large portion of the tumour mass. Also, the reversed pH gradient is spatially heterogenous within the tumour, with a normal pH gradient observed within an intermediate growth layer, that is the layer between the proliferative inner and outermost layer of the tumour. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=acidic%20pH" title="acidic pH">acidic pH</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cellular%20automaton" title=" cellular automaton"> cellular automaton</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ebola" title=" ebola"> ebola</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tumour%20growth" title=" tumour growth"> tumour growth</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/41359/a-cellular-automaton-model-examining-the-effects-of-oxygen-hydrogen-ions-and-lactate-on-early-tumour-growth" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/41359.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">332</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2599</span> Experiments of a Free Surface Flow in a Hydraulic Channel over an Uneven Bottom</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20Bouinoun">M. The morphology and phase of the prepared products were highly dependent on the synthesis conditions such as synthesis and annealing temperature, synthesis time, and precursor ratio. The tungsten oxide nanostructures (TCNs) have urchin-like or spherical nanostructure with different phase of W18O49 and WO3. The morphology of tungsten-molybdenum oxide nanostructures (TMONs) is basically similar to that of TCNs. However, the morphology and phase of TMONs are more diverse and are strongly dependent on the composition ratios of W/Mo in the precursor. The electrochemical properties depending on their morphologies and phases of TCNs and TMONs are compared using cyclic voltammetry and galvanostatic charge/discharge tests. The relationship between the electrochromic performance and phase structures/morphologies of nanostructured TCNs and TMONs are systematically investigated. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electrochemical" title="electrochemical">electrochemical</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=electrochromic" title=" electrochromic"> electrochromic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tungsten%20oxide" title=" tungsten oxide"> tungsten oxide</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tungsten-molybdenum%20oxide" title=" tungsten-molybdenum oxide"> tungsten-molybdenum oxide</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/21623/effects-of-phase-and-morphology-on-the-electrochemical-and-electrochromic-performances-of-tungsten-oxide-and-tungsten-molybdenum-oxide-nanostructures" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/21623.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">590</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2597</span> The Influence of Coarse Aggregate Morphology on Concrete Workability: A Case Study with Algerian Crushed Limestone</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ahmed%20Boufedah%20Badissi">Ahmed Boufedah Badissi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ahmed%20Beroual"> Ahmed Beroual</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Farid%20Boursas"> Farid Boursas</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This research aims to elucidate the role of coarse aggregate in influencing the fresh properties of normal-strength concrete. Specifically, it is aimed to identify the optimal gradation of coarse aggregate to enhance workability. While existing literature discusses the impact of aggregate granularity on concrete workability, more numerical data or models need to quantify the relationship between workability, granularity, and coarse aggregate shape. The main objective is to create a model that describes how coarse aggregate morphology contributes to fresh concrete properties. To investigate the effect of coarse aggregate gradation on Normal Strength Concrete (NSC) workability, various combinations of coarse aggregates (4/22.4 mm) were produced in the laboratory, utilizing three elementary classes: finer coarse aggregate 4/8 mm (Fca), medium coarse aggregate 8/16 mm (Mca), and coarser coarse aggregate 16/22.4 mm (Cca). We introduced a factor, FCR (Finer to Coarser coarse aggregate Ratio), as a numerical parameter to provide a quantitative evaluation and more detailed results analysis. Quantitative characterization parameters for coarse aggregate morphology were established, exploring the influence of particle size distribution, specific surface, and aggregate shape on workability. The research findings are significant for establishing correlations between coarse aggregate morphology and concrete properties. FCR emerges as a valuable tool for predicting the impact of aggregate gradation variations on concrete. The results of this study create a valuable database for construction professionals and concrete producers, affirming that the fresh properties of NSC are intricately linked to coarse aggregate morphology, particularly gradation. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=morphology" title="morphology">morphology</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=coarse%20aggregate" title=" coarse aggregate"> coarse aggregate</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=workability" title=" workability"> workability</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fresh%20properties" title=" fresh properties"> fresh properties</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gradation" title=" gradation"> gradation</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/181529/the-influence-of-coarse-aggregate-morphology-on-concrete-workability-a-case-study-with-algerian-crushed-limestone" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/181529.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">62</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2596</span> Medical Image Compression Based on Region of Interest: A Review</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sudeepti%20Dayal">Sudeepti Dayal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Neelesh%20Gupta"> Neelesh Gupta</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In terms of transmission, bigger the size of any image, longer the time the channel takes for transmission. Compression is the technique used to reduce the size of an image. In terms of storage, compression reduces the file size which it occupies on the disk. The superhydrophobic surface will be assembled into an observation channel for fluid experiments. Through the polarized light irradiation, the movement of the particles in the channel is captured by a high-speed camera, and the velocity of the particles is analyzed by MATLAB to find out the particle velocity field changes caused on the fluid boundary layer. This study found that the superhydrophobic surface can effectively increase the velocity near the wall surface, and the faster with the flow rate increases. By changing the composition of the solvent, the shape could be altered. While no product was obtained from methanolic solutions, in ethanol, sheet like lamellar structures prevail.n-propanol and n-butanol resulted in needle like structures. The morphology of ZnO could be thus tailored in a simple way, by varying the solvent, under ultrasonic irradiation, in a relatively less time consuming method. Variation of the morphology and size of Zn also provides a means for modulating the band-gap. Although the chemical effects of ultrasound do not come from direct interaction with molecular species, the high energy derived from acoustic cavitation creates a unique interaction of energy and matter with great potential for synthesis. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ultrasound" title="ultrasound">ultrasound</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ZnO" title=" ZnO"> ZnO</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=linear%20alcohols" title=" linear alcohols"> linear alcohols</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=morphology" title=" morphology"> morphology</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/94448/keynote-talk-ultrasound-assisted-synthesis-of-zno-of-different-morphologies-by-solvent-variation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/94448.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">242</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2592</span> The Effect of Lepidium Meyenii on Viability, Motility, and Sperm Morphology in Treatment of Infertility Among Adult Male Wistar Rats</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arefeh%20Sabzipour">Arefeh Sabzipour</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In the present work, the effect of Lepidium meyenii on viability, motility, and sperm morphology in the treatment of infertility of adult male Wistar rats was evaluated. 21 male Wistar rats were adopted, fed and brought up in the same conditions to reach the weight of 230±5 g. after that, they were randomly divided into three groups, including two experimental groups and one control group, each group consisted of 7 rates. The study of dental morphology is important in research as it provides information about diversities within a population. Many studies have shown different shapes and numbers of roots canals among different races, especially in molars. The aim of this study was to determine the morphology of root canals of mandibular first and third molars in a sample of Egyptian population using CBCT scanning. Fifty mandibular first Molars (M1) and fifty mandibular third (M3) extracted molars were collected. Thick rectangular molds were made using pink wax to hold the samples. Molars were embedded in the wax mold by aligning them in rows leaving arbitrary 0.5cm space between them. The molds with the samples in were submitted for CBCT scan. The number and morphology of root canals were assessed and classified according to Vertucci's classification. The mesial and the distal roots were examined separately. Finally, data was analyzed using Fisher exact test. The most prevalent mesial root canal frequency in M1 was type IV (60%) and type II (40 %), while M3 showed prevalence of type I (40%) and II (40%). Distal root canal morphology showed prevalence of type I in both M1 (66%) and M3 (86%). So, it can be concluded that CBCT scanning provides supplemental information about the root canal configurations of mandibular molars in a sample of Egyptian population. This study may help clinicians in the root canal treatment of mandibular molars. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cone%20beam%20computed%20tomography" title="cone beam computed tomography">cone beam computed tomography</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mandibular%20first%20molar" title=" mandibular first molar"> mandibular first molar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mandibular%20third%20molar" title=" mandibular third molar"> mandibular third molar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=root%20canal%20morphology" title=" root canal morphology"> root canal morphology</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/61096/cone-beam-computed-tomography-a-useful-diagnostic-tool-to-determine-root-canal-morphology-in-a-sample-of-egyptian-population" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/61096.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">318</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2588</span> Accelerating Side Channel Analysis with Distributed and Parallelized Processing</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kyunghee%20Oh">Kyunghee Oh</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dooho%20Choi"> Dooho Choi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Although there is no theoretical weakness in a cryptographic algorithm, Side Channel Analysis can find out some secret data from the physical implementation of a cryptosystem. The security requirements of a platform encompass each node to operate with confidentiality, integrity, and availability (ISO 27001). Inherently, a shared NoC interconnect is exposed to analysis of timing patterns created by contention for the network components, i.e., links and switches/routers. This phenomenon is defined as information leakage, which represents a ‘side channel’ of sensitive information that can be correlated to platform activity. The key algorithm presented in this paper evaluates how an adversary can control two platform neighbouring nodes of a target node to obtain sensitive information about communication with the target node. The actual information obtained is the period value of a periodic task communication. This enacts a breach of the expected confidentiality of a node operating in a multiprocessor platform. An experimental investigation of the side channel is undertaken to judge the level and significance of inferred information produced by access times to the NoC. Results are presented with a series of expanding task set scenarios to evaluate the efficacy of the side channel detection algorithm as the network load increases. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=embedded%20systems" title="embedded systems">embedded systems</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=multiprocessor" title=" multiprocessor"> multiprocessor</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=network%20on%20chip" title=" network on chip"> network on chip</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=side%20channel" title=" side channel"> side channel</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/171019/investigating-message-timing-side-channel-attacks-on-networks-on-chip-with-ring-topology" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/171019.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">71</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2586</span> Effect of SCN5A Gene Mutation in Endocardial Cell</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Helan%20Satish">Helan Satish</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20Ramasubba%20Reddy"> M. Results show that BrS-associated SCN5A mutation causes reduction in the inward sodium current by modifications in the channel gating dynamics such as delayed activation, enhanced inactivation, and slowed recovery from inactivation in the endocardial cell. A decrease in the inward sodium current was also observed, which affects depolarization phase (Phase 0) that leads to reduction in the spike amplitude of the cardiac action potential. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SCN5A%20gene%20mutation" title="SCN5A gene mutation">SCN5A gene mutation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sodium%20channel" title=" sodium channel"> sodium channel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Brugada%20syndrome" title=" Brugada syndrome"> Brugada syndrome</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cardiac%20arrhythmia" title=" cardiac arrhythmia"> cardiac arrhythmia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=action%20potential" title=" action potential"> action potential</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/126001/effect-of-scn5a-gene-mutation-in-endocardial-cell" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/126001.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">126</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2585</span> Congestion Control in Mobile Network by Prioritizing Handoff Calls</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=O.%20A.%20Lawal">O. In this study, low concentration of Al2O3 in Water - Ethylene Glycol mixtures is used as coolant in mini channel of carbon graphite plate to mimic the PEMFC cooling plate. A steady and incompressible flow with constant heat flux is assumed in the channel of 1mm x 5mm x 100mm. Nano particle of Al2O3 used ranges from 0.1, 0.3 and 0.5 vol % concentration and then dispersed in 60:40 (water: Ethylene Glycol) mixture. The effect of different flow rates to fluid flow and heat transfer enhancement in Re number range of 20 to 140 was observed. The result showed that heat transfer coefficient was improved by 18.11%, 9.86% and 5.37% for 0.5, 0.3 and 0.1 vol % Al2O3 in 60:40 (water: EG) as compared to base fluid of 60:40 (water: EG). It is also showed that the higher vol % concentration of Al2O3 performed better in term of thermal enhancement but at the expense of higher pumping power required due to increase in pressure drop experienced. Maximum additional pumping power of 0.0012W was required for 0.5 vol % Al2O3 in 60:40 (water: EG) at Re number 140. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=heat%20transfer" title="heat transfer">heat transfer</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mini%20channel" title=" mini channel"> mini channel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=nanofluid" title=" nanofluid"> nanofluid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=PEMFC" title=" PEMFC"> PEMFC</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/31505/thermal-analysis-on-heat-transfer-enhancement-and-fluid-flow-for-al2o3-water-ethylene-glycol-nano-fluid-in-single-pemfc-mini-channel" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/31505.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">339</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2581</span> The Response of 4-Hydroxybenzoic Acid on Kv1.4 Potassium Channel Subunit Expressed in Xenopus laevis Oocytes</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fatin%20H.%20Mohamad">Fatin H. In conclusion, 4-hydroxybenzoic acid can enhance the function of Kv1.4 potassium channels, which is regarded as one of the mechanisms of antiepileptic treatment. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=antiepileptic" title="antiepileptic">antiepileptic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kv1.4%20potassium%20channel" title=" Kv1.4 potassium channel"> Kv1.4 potassium channel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=two-microelectrode%20voltage%20clamp" title=" two-microelectrode voltage clamp"> two-microelectrode voltage clamp</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Xenopus%20laevis%20oocytes" title=" Xenopus laevis oocytes"> Xenopus laevis oocytes</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=4-hydroxybenzoic%20acid" title=" 4-hydroxybenzoic acid"> 4-hydroxybenzoic acid</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/38142/the-response-of-4-hydroxybenzoic-acid-on-kv14-potassium-channel-subunit-expressed-in-xenopus-laevis-oocytes" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/38142.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">362</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2580</span> Flow Field Optimization for Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Xiao-Dong%20Wang">Xiao-Dong Wang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Wei-Mon%20Yan"> Wei-Mon Yan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The flow field design in the bipolar plates affects the performance of the proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell. This work adopted a combined optimization procedure, including a simplified conjugate-gradient method and a completely three-dimensional, two-phase, non-isothermal fuel cell model, to look for optimal flow field design for a single serpentine fuel cell of size 9×9 mm with five channels. For the direct solution, the two-fluid method was adopted to incorporate the heat effects using energy equations for entire cells. The model assumes that the system is steady; the inlet reactants are ideal gases; the flow is laminar; and the porous layers such as the diffusion layer, catalyst layer and PEM are isotropic. The model includes continuity, momentum and species equations for gaseous species, liquid water transport equations in the channels, gas diffusion layers, and catalyst layers, water transport equation in the membrane, electron and proton transport equations. The Bulter-Volumer equation was used to describe electrochemical reactions in the catalyst layers. The cell output power density Pcell is maximized subjected to an optimal set of channel heights, H1-H5, and channel widths, W2-W5. The basic case with all channel heights and widths set at 1 mm yields a Pcell=7260 Wm-2. The optimal design displays a tapered characteristic for channels 1, 3 and 4, and a diverging characteristic in height for channels 2 and 5, producing a Pcell=8894 Wm-2, about 22.5% increment. The reduced channel heights of channels 2-4 significantly increase the sub-rib convection and widths for effectively removing liquid water and oxygen transport in gas diffusion layer. The final diverging channel minimizes the leakage of fuel to outlet via sub-rib convection from channel 4 to channel 5. Near-optimal design without huge loss in cell performance but is easily manufactured is tested. The use of a straight, final channel of 0.1 mm height has led to 7.37% power loss, while the design with all channel widths to be 1 mm with optimal channel heights obtained above yields only 1.68% loss of current density. The presence of a final, diverging channel has greater impact on cell performance than the fine adjustment of channel width at the simulation conditions set herein studied. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=optimization" title="optimization">optimization</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=flow%20field%20design" title=" flow field design"> flow field design</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=simplified%20conjugate-gradient%20method" title=" simplified conjugate-gradient method"> simplified conjugate-gradient method</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=serpentine%20flow%20field" title=" serpentine flow field"> serpentine flow field</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sub-rib%20convection" title=" sub-rib convection"> sub-rib convection</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/42995/flow-field-optimization-for-proton-exchange-membrane-fuel-cells" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/42995.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">296</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2579</span> Improving Capability of Detecting Impulsive Noise </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Farbod%20Rohani">Farbod Rohani</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Elyar%20Ghafoori"> Elyar Ghafoori</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Matin%20Saeedkondori"> Matin Saeedkondori</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Impulse noise is electromagnetic emission which generated by many house hold appliances that are attached to the electrical network. The main difficulty of impulsive noise (IN) elimination process from communication channels is to distinguish it from the transmitted signal and more importantly choosing the proper threshold bandwidth in order to eliminate the signal. Because of wide band property of impulsive noise, we present a novel method for setting the detection threshold, by taking advantage of the fact that impulsive noise bandwidth is usually wider than that of typical communication channels and specifically OFDM channel. After IN detection procedure, we apply simple windowing mechanisms to eliminate them from the communication channel. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a
