His account is primarily found in the book of 1 Samuel, where he is introduced during the reign of King Saul, the first king of Israel. The Amalekites were long-standing enemies of Israel, and God commanded Saul to utterly destroy them as a divine judgment for their past transgressions against His people (<a href="/1_samuel/15-2.htm">1 Samuel 15:2-3</a>).<br><br>Despite the clear command, Saul failed to fully execute God's directive, sparing Agag and the best of the Amalekite livestock. This act of disobedience ultimately led to Saul's rejection as king by God. Agag came to him cheerfully, thinking, 'Surely the bitterness of death is past.'" His demeanor suggests a man who either underestimated the seriousness of his situation or had come to terms with his fate, displaying a form of personal bravery in the face of death.<br><br>Agag's indifference can be interpreted in several ways.
