And the prophets, do they live forever? <a href="/zechariah/1-6.htm">6</a>But did not My words and My statutes, which I commanded My servants the prophets, overtake your fathers? They repented and said, ‘Just as the LORD of Hosts purposed to do to us according to our ways and deeds, so He has done to us.’ ” The Vision of the Horses<a href="/zechariah/1-7.htm">7</a>On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, the month of Shebat,<a href="#fn">a</a> in the second year of Darius, the word of the LORD came to the prophet Zechariah son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo. <a href="/zechariah/1-8.htm">8</a>I looked out into the night and saw a man riding on a red horse. He was standing among the myrtle trees in the hollow, and behind him were red, sorrel, and white horses. <a href="/zechariah/1-9.htm">9</a>“What are these, my lord?” I asked. And the angel who was speaking with me replied, “I will show you what they are.” <a href="/zechariah/1-10.htm">10</a>Then the man standing among the myrtle trees explained, “They are the ones the LORD has sent to patrol the earth.” <a href="/zechariah/1-11.htm">11</a>And the riders answered the angel of the LORD who was standing among the myrtle trees, “We have patrolled the earth, and behold, all the earth is at rest and tranquil.” <a href="/zechariah/1-12.htm">12</a>Then the angel of the LORD said, “How long, O LORD of Hosts, will You withhold mercy from Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, with which You have been angry these seventy years?” <a href="/zechariah/1-13.htm">13</a>So the LORD spoke kind and comforting words to the angel who was speaking with me. <a href="/zechariah/1-14.htm">14</a>Then the angel who was speaking with me said, “Proclaim this word: This is what the LORD of Hosts says: ‘I am very jealous for Jerusalem and Zion, <a href="/zechariah/1-15.htm">15</a>but I am fiercely angry with the nations that are at ease. For I was a little angry, but they have added to the calamity.<a href="#fn">b</a>’ <a href="/zechariah/1-16.htm">16</a>Therefore this is what the LORD says: ‘I will return to Jerusalem with mercy, and there My house will be rebuilt, declares the LORD of Hosts, and a measuring line will be stretched out over Jerusalem.’ <a href="/zechariah/1-17.htm">17</a>Proclaim further that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: ‘My cities will again overflow with prosperity; the LORD will again comfort Zion and choose Jerusalem.’ ” The Vision of the Horns and the Craftsmen<a href="/zechariah/1-18.htm">18</a>Then I looked up and saw four horns. <a href="/zechariah/1-19.htm">19</a>So I asked the angel who was speaking with me, “What are these?” And he told me, “These are the horns that have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.” <a href="/zechariah/1-20.htm">20</a>Then the LORD showed me four craftsmen. <a href="/zechariah/1-21.htm">21</a>“What are these coming to do?” I asked. Indeed, the LORD, who has chosen Jerusalem, rebukes you! Is not this man a firebrand<a href="#fn">c</a> snatched from the fire?” <a href="/zechariah/3-3.htm">3</a>Now Joshua was dressed in filthy garments as he stood before the angel. <a href="/zechariah/3-4.htm">4</a>So the angel said to those standing before him, “Take off his filthy clothes!” Then he said to Joshua, “See, I have removed your iniquity, and I will clothe you with splendid robes.” <a href="/zechariah/3-5.htm">5</a>Then I said, “Let them put a clean turban on his head.” So a clean turban was placed on his head, and they clothed him, as the angel of the LORD stood by. <a href="/zechariah/3-6.htm">6</a>Then the angel of the LORD gave this charge to Joshua: <a href="/zechariah/3-7.htm">7</a>“This is what the LORD of Hosts says: ‘If you walk in My ways and keep My instructions, then you will govern My house and will also have charge of My courts; and I will give you a place among these who are standing here. <a href="/zechariah/3-8.htm">8</a>Hear now, O high priest Joshua, you and your companions seated before you, who are indeed a sign. Before Zerubbabel you will become a plain. Then he will bring forth the capstone accompanied by shouts of ‘Grace, grace to it!’ ” <a href="/zechariah/4-8.htm">8</a>Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying, <a href="/zechariah/4-9.htm">9</a>“The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house, and his hands will complete it. Then you will know that the LORD of Hosts has sent me to you. <a href="/zechariah/4-10.htm">10</a>For who has despised the day of small things? It will remain inside his house and destroy it, down to its timbers and stones.” The Vision of the Woman in a Basket<a href="/zechariah/5-5.htm">5</a>Then the angel who was speaking with me came forward and told me, “Now lift up your eyes and see what is approaching.” <a href="/zechariah/5-6.htm">6</a>“What is it?” I asked. And he replied, “A measuring basket<a href="#fn">b</a> is going forth.” Then he continued, “This is their iniquity<a href="#fn">c</a> in all the land.” <a href="/zechariah/5-7.htm">7</a>And behold, the cover of lead was raised, and there was a woman sitting inside the basket. <a href="/zechariah/5-8.htm">8</a>“This is Wickedness,” he said. And he shoved her down into the basket, pushing down the lead cover over its opening. <a href="/zechariah/5-9.htm">9</a>Then I lifted up my eyes and saw two women approaching, with the wind in their wings. And He will be a priest on His throne,<a href="#fn">d</a> and there will be peaceful counsel between the two.’ <a href="/zechariah/6-14.htm">14</a>The crown will reside in the temple of the LORD as a memorial to Helem,<a href="#fn">e</a> Tobijah, Jedaiah, and the gracious<a href="#fn">f</a> son of Zephaniah. <a href="/zechariah/6-15.htm">15</a>Even those far away will come and build the temple of the LORD, and you will know that the LORD of Hosts has sent Me to you. Show loving devotion<a href="#fn">d</a> and compassion to one another. <a href="/zechariah/7-10.htm">10</a>Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the foreigner or the poor. And do not plot evil in your hearts against one another.’ <a href="/zechariah/7-11.htm">11</a>But they refused to pay attention and turned a stubborn shoulder; they stopped up their ears from hearing.<a href="#fn">e</a> <a href="/zechariah/7-12.htm">12</a>They made their hearts like flint and would not listen to the law or to the words that the LORD of Hosts had sent by His Spirit through the earlier prophets. They will destroy and conquer with slingstones; they will drink and roar as with wine. I will restore them because I have compassion on them, and they will be as though I had not rejected them. Judah will be besieged, as well as Jerusalem. <a href="/zechariah/12-3.htm">3</a>On that day, when all the nations of the earth gather against her, I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples; all who would heave it away will be severely injured. <a href="/zechariah/12-4.htm">4</a>On that day, declares the LORD, I will strike every horse with panic, and every rider with madness. I will keep a watchful eye on the house of Judah, but I will strike with blindness all the horses of the nations. <a href="/zechariah/12-5.htm">5</a>Then the leaders of Judah will say in their hearts: ‘The people of Jerusalem are my strength, for the LORD of Hosts is their God.’ <a href="/zechariah/12-6.htm">6</a>On that day I will make the clans of Judah like a firepot in a woodpile, like a flaming torch among the sheaves; they will consume all the peoples around them on the right and on the left, while the people of Jerusalem remain secure there. <a href="/zechariah/12-7.htm">7</a>The LORD will save the tents of Judah first, so that the glory of the house of David and of the people of Jerusalem may not be greater than that of Judah. <a href="/zechariah/12-8.htm">8</a>On that day the LORD will defend the people of Jerusalem, so that the weakest among them will be like David, and the house of David will be like God, like the angel<a href="#fn">a</a> of the LORD going before them. <a href="/zechariah/12-9.htm">9</a>So on that day I will set out to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. You will flee as you fled from the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Then the LORD my God will come, and all the holy ones with Him.<a href="#fn">a</a> <a href="/zechariah/14-6.htm">6</a>On that day there will be no light, no cold or frost. <a href="/zechariah/14-7.htm">7</a>It will be a day known only to the LORD, without day or night; but when evening comes, there will be light. <a href="/zechariah/14-8.htm">8</a>And on that day living water will flow out from Jerusalem, half of it toward the Eastern Sea<a href="#fn">b</a> and the other half toward the Western Sea,<a href="#fn">c</a> in summer and winter alike. <a href="/zechariah/14-9.htm">9</a>On that day the LORD will become King over all the earth—the LORD alone, and His name alone. <a href="/zechariah/14-10.htm">10</a>All the land from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem will be turned into a plain, but Jerusalem will be raised up and will remain in her place, from the Benjamin Gate to the site of the First Gate to the Corner Gate, and from the Tower of Hananel to the royal winepresses. <a href="/zechariah/14-11.htm">11</a>People will live there, and never again will there be an utter destruction. So Jerusalem will dwell securely. <a href="/zechariah/14-12.htm">12</a>And this will be the plague with which the LORD strikes all the peoples who have warred against Jerusalem: Their flesh will rot while they stand on their feet, their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongues will rot in their mouths. <a href="/zechariah/14-13.htm">13</a>On that day a great panic from the LORD will come upon them, so that each will seize the hand of another, and the hand of one will rise against the other. <a href="/zechariah/14-14.htm">14</a>Judah will also fight at Jerusalem, and the wealth of all the surrounding nations will be collected—gold, silver, and apparel in great abundance. <a href="/zechariah/14-15.htm">15</a>And a similar plague will strike the horses and mules, camels and donkeys, and all the animals in those camps. All Nations Will Worship the King (<a hlef ="../leviticus/23.htm#33">Leviticus 23:33–44</a>; <a hlef ="../nehemiah/8.htm#13">Nehemiah 8:13–18</a>)<a href="/zechariah/14-16.htm">16</a>Then all the survivors from the nations that came against Jerusalem will go up year after year to worship the King, the LORD of Hosts, and to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles.<a href="#fn">d</a> <a href="/zechariah/14-17.htm">17</a>And should any of the families of the earth not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of Hosts, then the rain will not fall on them. <a href="/zechariah/14-18.htm">18</a>And if the people of Egypt will not go up and enter in, then the rain will not fall on them; this will be the plague with which the LORD strikes the nations who do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles. <a href="/zechariah/14-19.htm">19</a>This will be the punishment of Egypt and of all the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles. <a href="/zechariah/14-20.htm">20</a>On that day, HOLY TO THE LORD<a href="#fn">e</a> will be inscribed on the bells of the horses, and the cooking pots in the house of the LORD will be like the sprinkling bowls before the altar. <a href="/zechariah/14-21.htm">21</a>Indeed, every pot in Jerusalem and Judah will be holy to the LORD of Hosts, and all who sacrifice will come and take some pots and cook in them.
