She attended the University of Southern California, where she received her degree in humanities. She later earned a master's degree in developmental psychology and three teaching credentials. In 1995 she was a Klingenstein Fellow at Columbia University's Teachers College, and she retired June 30, 2016, from the Center for Early Education in Los Angeles (a toddler through sixth-grade school with 538 students), where she worked for 44 years, 40 of those as head of school. For the last 15 summers, Reveta has been the lead faculty member at the NAIS Institute for New Heads and has taught more than 700 NAIS heads of school.</p> <p>Upon her retirement, Reveta began consulting with nonprofit and corporate boards and organizations on issues of governance and governance best practices. She was an outside director of the Walt Disney Company from 1993–2003, and she is a past president of the board of governors of the Fulfillment Fund, an organization that provides support programs for students in inner-city Los Angeles public schools. She also served as board chair for the Educational Records Bureau (ERB) and the California Community Foundation, on the advisory board for Columbia University's Klingenstein Center, and, for three years, on the board of overseers of the UCLA Health Care Systems. Additionally, she served on the boards of the Coalition for Justice, the National Association of Independent Schools (as treasurer), the California Association of Independent Schools (as president), and Harvard-Westlake, Brentwood, and Windward schools (as a trustee). Under his leadership, San Antonio ranked first in the Milken Institute's Best-Performing Cities list, earned a triple-A rating among all three major ratings agencies, and was ranked as the nation's No. 3 new tech hotspot by Forbes. In 2010, the city opened Café College, a one-stop center for free, personalized college admissions and financial aid counseling, and in 2012 local voters approved PreK4SA, a ballot initiative to expand high-quality, full-day pre-K in the city.</p> <p>The World Economic Forum named Castro to its list of Young Global Leaders in 2010. Later that year, Time magazine placed him on its 40 Under 40 list of rising stars in American politics.</p> <p>Castro is currently working on a memoir for publisher Little, Brown. In addition, while still in law school, Jim was a founder and original chairperson of the East Palo Alto Community Law Project. This nonprofit law office served for over 30 years as the primary source of legal services for lower-income families in East Palo Alto and has been the training ground for hundreds of students at Stanford Law School.</p><p>Jim's long-standing commitment to disadvantaged children and to teaching began decades ago when he was a remedial reading tutor to at-risk kids in New York City public schools. Since taking office, Mayor&nbsp;Michael&nbsp;Tubbs&nbsp;secured a $20 million private donation to launch “Stockton Scholars,” which will provide up to $4,000 to help students pay for college or trade school for a decade.&nbsp; Mayor&nbsp;Tubbs&nbsp;also worked to bring “Advance Peace” to Stockton, a program that works to reduce gun violence in communities by identifying and engaging the less than one percent of Stockton’s population known to commit gun crimes.
