and anyone belonging to him who dies<MH4191> in the field<MH7704>, the birds<MH5775> of the sky<MH8064> will eat<MH398>.&#8221; <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/16-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>Now <i>as for</i> the rest<MH3499a> of the acts<MH1697> of Baasha<MH1201> and what<MH834> he did<MH6213a> and his might<MH1369>, are they not written<MH3789> in the Book<MH5612> of the Chronicles<MH1697, 3117> of the Kings<MH4428> of Israel<MH3478>? <p class="hdg">The Israelite Kings</p><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/16-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>And Baasha<MH1201> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>lay<MH7901> down<MH7901> with his fathers<MH1> and was buried<MH6912> in Tirzah<MH8656>, and his son<MH1121> Elah<MH425> became<MH4427a> king<MH4427a> in<MH8478> his place<MH8478>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/16-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>Moreover<MH1571>, the word<MH1697> of the LORD<MH3068> through<MH3027> the prophet<MH5030> Jehu<MH3058> the son<MH1121> of Hanani<MH2607> came<MH1961> against<MH413> Baasha<MH1201> and his household<MH1004>, both because<MH5921> of all<MH3605> the evil<MH7463a> that he did<MH6213a> in the sight<MH5869> of the LORD<MH3068>, provoking<MH3707> Him to<MH3707> anger<MH3707> with the work<MH4639> of his hands<MH3027>, by being<MH1961> like the house<MH1004> of Jeroboam<MH3379>, and because<MH5921, 834> he struck<MH5221> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>it. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/16-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>In the twenty-sixth<MH6242, 8337a> year<MH8141> of Asa<MH609> king<MH4428> of Judah<MH3063>, Elah<MH425> the son<MH1121> of Baasha<MH1201> became<MH4427a> king<MH4427a> over<MH5921> Israel<MH3478> at Tirzah<MH8656>, <i>and reigned</i> for two years<MH8141>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/16-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And his servant<MH5650> Zimri<MH2174a>, commander<MH8269> of half<MH4276> his chariots<MH7393>, conspired<MH7194> against<MH5921> him. Now <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>Elah <i>was</i> in Tirzah<MH8656> drinking<MH8354> himself drunk<MH7910> in the house<MH1004> of Arza<MH777>, who<MH834> <i>was</i> in<MH5921> charge<MH5921> of<MH5921> the household<MH1004> in Tirzah<MH8656>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/16-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Then Zimri<MH2174a> came<MH935> in<MH935> and struck<MH5221> him and put<MH4191> him to<MH4191> death<MH4191> in the twenty-seventh<MH6242, 7651> year<MH8141> of Asa<MH609> king<MH4428> of Judah<MH3063>, and he became<MH4427a> king<MH4427a> in<MH8478> his place<MH8478>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/16-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>And when he became<MH4427a> king<MH4427a>, as soon as he sat<MH3427> on his throne<MH3678>, he <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>killed<MH5221> all<MH3605> the household<MH1004> of Baasha<MH1201>; he did not leave<MH7604> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>a single male<MH8366, 7023> alive<MH7604>, either of his <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>relatives<MH1350> or of his friends<MH7453>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/16-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>So Zimri<MH2174a> eliminated<MH8045> all<MH3605> the household<MH1004> of Baasha<MH1201>, in accordance with the word<MH1697> of the LORD<MH3068> which<MH834> He spoke<MH1696> against<MH413> Baasha<MH1201> through<MH3027> Jehu<MH3058> the prophet<MH5030>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/16-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>for all<MH3605> the sins<MH2403b> of Baasha<MH1201> and the sins<MH2403b> of his son<MH1121> Elah<MH425>, which<MH834> they <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>committed<MH2398> and into which<MH834> they misled<MH2398> Israel<MH3478>, provoking<MH3707> the LORD<MH3068> God<MH430> of Israel<MH3478> to<MH3707> anger<MH3707> with their <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>idols<MH1892>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/16-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Now <i>as for</i> the rest<MH3499a> of the acts<MH1697> of Elah<MH425> and all<MH3605> that he did<MH6213a>, are they not written<MH3789> in the Book<MH5612> of the Chronicles<MH1697, 3117> of the Kings<MH4428> of Israel<MH3478>? <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/16-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>In the twenty-seventh<MH6242, 7651> year<MH8141> of Asa<MH609> king<MH4428> of Judah<MH3063>, Zimri<MH2174a> reigned<MH4427a> for seven<MH7651> days<MH3117> in Tirzah<MH8656>. Now the people<MH5971a> were camped<MH2583> against<MH5921> Gibbethon<MH1405>, which<MH834> belonged to the Philistines<MH6430>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/16-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>And the people<MH5971a> who were camped<MH2583> heard<MH8085> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>it being said<MH559>, &#8220;Zimri<MH2174a> has conspired<MH7194> and has also<MH1571> struck<MH5221> and<MH5221> killed<MH5221> the king<MH4428>!&#8221; Therefore all<MH3605> Israel<MH3478> made<MH4427a> Omri<MH6018>, the commander<MH8269> of the army<MH6635>, king<MH4427a> over<MH5921> Israel<MH3478> that day<MH3117> in the camp<MH4264>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/16-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>Then Omri<MH6018> and all<MH3605> Israel<MH3478> with him went<MH5927> up<MH5927> from Gibbethon<MH1405> and besieged<MH6696a, 5921> Tirzah<MH8656>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/16-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>When Zimri<MH2174a> saw<MH7200> that the city<MH5892b> was taken<MH3920>, he went<MH935> into the citadel<MH759> of the king&#8217;s<MH4428> house<MH1004> and burned<MH8313> the king&#8217;s<MH4428> house<MH1004> over<MH5921> himself with fire<MH784>, and died<MH4191>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/16-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>because<MH5921> of his sins<MH2403b> which<MH834> he <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>committed<MH2398>, doing<MH6213a> evil<MH7451a> in the sight<MH5869> of the LORD<MH3068>, walking<MH1980> in the way<MH1870> of Jeroboam<MH3379>, and in his sin<MH2403b> which<MH834> he committed<MH6213a>, misleading<MH2398> Israel<MH3478> into<MH2398> sin<MH2398>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/16-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>Now <i>as for</i> the rest<MH3499a> of the acts<MH1697> of Zimri<MH2174a> and his conspiracy<MH7195> which<MH834> he <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>carried<MH7194> out<MH7194>, are they not written<MH3789> in the Book<MH5612> of the Chronicles<MH1697, 3117> of the Kings<MH4428> of Israel<MH3478>? <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/16-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>Then<MH227> the people<MH5971a> of Israel<MH3478> were divided<MH2505a> into two<MH2677> parts<MH2677>: half<MH2677> of the people<MH5971a> followed<MH1961, 310> Tibni<MH8402> the son<MH1121> of Ginath<MH1527>, to make<MH4427a> him king<MH4427a>; the <i>other</i> half<MH2677> followed<MH310> Omri<MH6018>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/16-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>But the people<MH5971a> who<MH834> followed<MH310> Omri<MH6018> prevailed<MH2388> over<MH2388> the people<MH5971a> who<MH834> followed<MH310> Tibni<MH8402> the son<MH1121> of Ginath<MH1527>. And Tibni<MH8402> died<MH4191> and Omri<MH6018> became<MH4427a> king<MH4427a>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/16-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>In the thirty-first<MH7970, 259> year<MH8141> of Asa<MH609> king<MH4428> of Judah<MH3063>, Omri<MH6018> became<MH4427a> king<MH4427a> over<MH5921> Israel<MH3478> <i>and reigned</i> for twelve<MH8147, 6240> years<MH8141>; he reigned<MH4427a> for six<MH8337a> years<MH8141> at Tirzah<MH8656>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/16-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>And he purchased<MH7069> the hill<MH2022> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>Samaria<MH8111> from Shemer<MH8106> for <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>two talents<MH3603> of silver<MH3701>; and he built<MH1129> on the hill<MH2022>, and named<MH7121, 8034> the city<MH5892b> which<MH834> he built<MH1129> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>Samaria<MH8111>, after<MH5921> the name<MH8034> of Shemer<MH8106>, the owner<MH113> of the hill<MH2022>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/16-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>Now Omri<MH6018> did<MH6213a> evil<MH7451a> in the sight<MH5869> of the LORD<MH3068>, and acted<MH7489a> more<MH4480> wickedly<MH7489a> than<MH4480> all<MH3605> who<MH834> <i>were</i> before<MH6440> him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/16-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>For he walked<MH1980> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>entirely<MH3605> in the way<MH1870> of Jeroboam<MH3379> the son<MH1121> of Nebat<MH5028> and in his sins<MH2403b> into which<MH834> he misled<MH2398> Israel<MH3478>, provoking<MH3707> the LORD<MH3068> God<MH430> of Israel<MH3478> to<MH3707> anger<MH3707> with their <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>idols<MH1892>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/16-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>Now <i>as for</i> the rest<MH3499a> of the acts<MH1697> of Omri<MH6018> which<MH834> he did<MH6213a> and his might<MH1369> which<MH834> he <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>displayed<MH6213a>, are they not written<MH3789> in the Book<MH5612> of the Chronicles<MH1697, 3117> of the Kings<MH4428> of Israel<MH3478>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/16-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>And Omri<MH6018> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[s]</a></span>lay<MH7901> down<MH7901> with his fathers<MH1> and was buried<MH6912> in Samaria<MH8111>; and his son<MH1121> Ahab<MH256> became<MH4427a> king<MH4427a> in<MH8478> his place<MH8478>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/16-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>Now Ahab<MH256> the son<MH1121> of Omri<MH6018> became<MH4427a> king<MH4427a> over<MH5921> Israel<MH3478> in the thirty-eighth<MH7970, 8083> year<MH8141> of Asa<MH609> king<MH4428> of Judah<MH3063>, and Ahab<MH256> the son<MH1121> of Omri<MH6018> reigned<MH4427a> over<MH5921> Israel<MH3478> in Samaria<MH8111> for twenty-two<MH6242, 8147> years<MH8141>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/16-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>Ahab<MH256> the son<MH1121> of Omri<MH6018> did<MH6213a> evil<MH7451a> in the sight<MH5869> of the LORD<MH3068> more<MH4480> than<MH4480> all<MH3605> who<MH834> were before<MH6440> him. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/16-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>And as though it had been<MH7043> a<MH7043> trivial<MH7043> thing<MH7043> for him to walk<MH1980> in the sins<MH2403b> of Jeroboam<MH3379> the son<MH1121> of Nebat<MH5028>, he married<MH3947, 802> Jezebel<MH348> the daughter<MH1323> of Ethbaal<MH856> king<MH4428> of the Sidonians<MH6722>, and went<MH1980> and served<MH5647> Baal<MH1168a>, and worshiped<MH2331c> him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/16-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>So he erected<MH6965> an altar<MH4196> for Baal<MH1168a> at the house<MH1004> of Baal<MH1168a>, which<MH834> he built<MH1129> in Samaria<MH8111>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/1_kings/16-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>Ahab<MH256> also made<MH6213a> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[t]</a></span>Asherah<MH842>.
