Schebek</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In order to reach the long-term national climate goals of the German government for the building sector, substantial energetic measures have to be executed. Historically, those measures were primarily energetic efficiency measures at the buildings&rsquo; shells. Advanced technologies for the on-site generation of heat (or other types of energy) often are not feasible at this small spatial scale of a single building. Therefore, the present approach uses the spatially larger dimension of a quarter. The main focus of the present paper is the long-term economic-ecological assessment of available decentralized heat-generating (CHP power plants and electrical heat pumps) technologies at the quarter level for the German unrefurbished residential buildings. Three distinct terms have to be described methodologically: i) Quarter approach, ii) Economic assessment, iii) Ecological assessment. The quarter approach is used to enable synergies and scaling effects over a single-building. For the present study, generic quarters that are differentiated according to significant parameters concerning their heat demand are used. The core differentiation of those quarters is made by the construction time period of the buildings. The economic assessment as the second crucial parameter is executed with the following structure: Full costs are quantized for each technology combination and quarter. The investment costs are analyzed on an annual basis and are modeled with the acquisition of debt. Annuity loans are assumed. Consequently, for each generic quarter, an optimal technology combination for decentralized heat generation is provided in each year of the temporal boundaries (2016-2050). The ecological assessment elaborates for each technology combination and each quarter a Life Cycle assessment. The measured impact category hereby is GWP 100. The technology combinations for heat production can be therefore compared against each other concerning their long-term climatic impacts. Core results of the approach can be differentiated to an economic and ecological dimension. With an annual resolution, the investment and running costs of different energetic technology combinations are quantified. For each quarter an optimal technology combination for local heat supply and/or energetic refurbishment of the buildings within the quarter is provided. Coherently to the economic assessment, the climatic impacts of the technology combinations are quantized and compared against each other. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=building%20sector" title="building sector">building sector</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=economic-ecological%20assessment" title=" economic-ecological assessment"> economic-ecological assessment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=heat" title=" heat"> heat</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=LCA" title=" LCA"> LCA</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quarter%20level" title=" quarter level"> quarter level</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/55880/long-term-economic-ecological-assessment-of-optimal-local-heat-generating-technologies-for-the-german-unrefurbished-residential-building-stock-on-the-quarter-level" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/55880.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">224</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12817</span> Some Classes of Lorentzian Alpha-Sasakian Manifolds with Respect to Quarter-Symmetric Metric Connection</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Santu%20Dey">Santu Dey</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arindam%20Bhattacharyya"> Arindam Bhattacharyya</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The object of the present paper is to study a quarter-symmetric metric connection in a Lorentzian α-Sasakian manifold. The model is developed by considering the advantages of both caisson breakwater and pile supported breakwater, where the top portion is a vertical or quarter circle caisson and the bottom portion consists of a pile supported breakwater defined as Vertical Pile Supported Breakwater (VPSCB) and Quarter-circle Pile Supported Breakwater (QPSCB). The study mainly focuses on comparison of run up over VPSCB and QPSCB under oblique waves. The experiments are carried out in a shallow wave basin under different water depths (d = 0.5 m &amp; 0.55 m) and under different oblique regular waves (00, 150, 300). The run up over the surface is measured by placing two run up probes over the surface at 0.3 m on both sides from the centre of the model. The results show that the non-dimensional shoreward run up shows slight decrease with respect to increase in angle of wave attack. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Caisson%20breakwater" title="Caisson breakwater">Caisson breakwater</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pile%20supported%20breakwater" title=" pile supported breakwater"> pile supported breakwater</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quarter%20circle%20breakwater" title=" quarter circle breakwater"> quarter circle breakwater</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=vertical%20breakwater" title=" vertical breakwater"> vertical breakwater</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/111802/effect-of-runup-over-a-vertical-pile-supported-caisson-breakwater-and-quarter-circle-pile-supported-caisson-breakwater" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/111802.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">153</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12815</span> Numerical Simulation and Experimental Validation of the Tire-Road Separation in Quarter-car Model</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Quy%20Dang%20Nguyen">Quy Dang Nguyen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Reza%20Nakhaie%20Jazar"> Reza Nakhaie Jazar</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The paper investigates vibration dynamics of tire-road separation for a quarter-car model; this separation model is developed to be close to the real situation considering the tire is able to separate from the ground plane. A set of piecewise linear mathematical models is developed and matches the in-contact and no-contact states to be considered as mother models for further investigations. The bound dynamics are numerically simulated in the time response and phase portraits. The separation analysis may determine which values of suspension parameters can delay and avoid the no-contact phenomenon, which results in improving ride comfort and eliminating the potentially dangerous oscillation. The main objective of this research paper is to decrease vibration and improve passenger comfort through controlling car suspension system using sliding mode control techniques. The mathematical model for passive and active suspensions systems for quarter car model which subject to excitation from different road profiles is obtained. The active suspension system is synthesized based on sliding mode control for a quarter car model. The performance of the sliding mode control is determined through computer simulations using MATLAB and SIMULINK toolbox. The simulated results plotted in time domain, and root mean square values. It is found that active suspension system using sliding mode control improves the ride comfort and decrease vibration. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quarter%20car%20model" title="quarter car model">quarter car model</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=active%20suspension%20system" title=" active suspension system"> active suspension system</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sliding%20mode%20control" title=" sliding mode control"> sliding mode control</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=road%20profile" title=" road profile"> road profile</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/78568/sliding-mode-controller-for-active-suspension-system-on-a-passenger-car-model" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/78568.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">309</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12812</span> The Role of Business Survey Measures in Forecasting Croatian Industrial Production</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=M.%20Cizmesija">M. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to investigate and to quantify the relationship between all business survey variables in manufacturing industry and industrial production as a reference macroeconomic series in Croatia. The assumption is that there are variables in the business survey, that are not components of Industrial Confidence Indicator (ICI) and which can accurately (and sometimes better then ICI) predict changes in Croatian industrial production. Empirical analyses are conducted using quarterly data of BS variables in manufacturing industry and Croatian industrial production over the period from the first quarter 2005 to the first quarter 2013. Research results confirmed the assumption: three BS variables which is not components of ICI (competitive position, demand and liquidity) are the best leading indicator then ICI, in forecasting changes in Croatian industrial production instantaneously, with one, two or three quarter ahead. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=balance" title="balance">balance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=business%20survey" title=" business survey"> business survey</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=confidence%20indicators" title=" confidence indicators"> confidence indicators</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=industrial%20production" title=" industrial production"> industrial production</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=forecasting" title=" forecasting"> forecasting</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/2445/the-role-of-business-survey-measures-in-forecasting-croatian-industrial-production" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/2445.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">474</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12811</span> Compact Dual-Band Bandpass Filter Based on Quarter Wavelength Stepped Impedance Resonators</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yu-Fu%20Chen">Yu-Fu Chen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Zih-Jyun%20Dai"> Zih-Jyun Dai</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chen-Te%20Chiu"> Chen-Te Chiu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shiue-Chen%20Chiou"> Shiue-Chen Chiou</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yung-Wei%20Chen"> Yung-Wei Chen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yu-Ming%20Lin"> Yu-Ming Lin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kuan-Yu%20Chen"> Kuan-Yu Chen</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hung-Wei%20Wu"> Hung-Wei Wu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Hsin-Ying%20Lee"> Hsin-Ying Lee</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yan-Kuin%20Su"> Yan-Kuin Su</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shoou-Jinn%20Chang"> Shoou-Jinn Chang</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This paper presents a compact dual-band bandpass filter that involves using the quarter wavelength stepped impedance resonators (SIRs) for achieving simultaneously compact circuit size and good dual-band performance. The filter is designed at 2.4 / 3.5 GHz and constructed by two pairs of quarter wavelength SIRs and source-load lines. By properly tuning the impedance ratio, length ratio and radius of via hole of the SIRs, dual-passbands performance can be easily determined. To improve the passband selectivity, the use of source-load lines is to increase coupling energy between the resonators. The filter is showing simple configuration, effective design method and small circuit size. The measured results are in good agreement with the simulation results. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dual-band" title="dual-band">dual-band</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bandpass%20filter" title=" bandpass filter"> bandpass filter</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=stepped%20impedance%20resonators" title=" stepped impedance resonators"> stepped impedance resonators</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=SIR" title=" SIR"> SIR</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/44601/compact-dual-band-bandpass-filter-based-on-quarter-wavelength-stepped-impedance-resonators" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/44601.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">516</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12810</span> The Effect of Damping Treatment for Noise Control on Offshore Platforms Using Statistical Energy Analysis</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ji%20Xi">Ji Xi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cheng%20Song%20Chin"> Cheng Song Chin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ehsan%20Mesbahi"> Ehsan Mesbahi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Structure-borne noise is an important aspect of offshore platform sound field. It can be generated either directly by vibrating machineries induced mechanical force, indirectly by the excitation of structure or excitation by incident airborne noise. Therefore, limiting of the transmission of vibration energy throughout the offshore platform is the key to control the structure-borne noise. This is usually done by introducing damping treatment to the steel structures. Two types of damping treatment using on-board are presented. By conducting a statistical energy analysis (SEA) simulation on a jack-up rig, the noise level in the source room, the neighboring rooms, and remote living quarter cabins are compared before and after the damping treatments been applied. The results demonstrated that, in the source neighboring room and living quarter area, there is a significant noise reduction with the damping treatment applied, whereas in the source room where air-borne sound predominates that of structure-borne sound, the impact is not obvious. The subsequent optimization design of damping treatment in the offshore platform can be made which enable acoustic professionals to implement noise control during the design stage for offshore crews’ hearing protection and habitant comfortability. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=statistical%20energy%20analysis" title="statistical energy analysis">statistical energy analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=damping%20treatment" title=" damping treatment"> damping treatment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=noise%20control" title=" noise control"> noise control</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=offshore%20platform" title=" offshore platform"> offshore platform</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/33178/the-effect-of-damping-treatment-for-noise-control-on-offshore-platforms-using-statistical-energy-analysis" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/33178.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">555</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12809</span> Comparative Growth Rates of Treculia africana Decne: Embryo in Varied Strengths of Murashige and Skoog Basal Medium</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Okafor%20C.%20Uche">Okafor C. Mature zygotic embryos of <em>T. africana</em> were excised from the seeds aseptically and cultured on varied strengths (full, half and quarter) of Murashige and Skoog (MS) basal medium supplemented. All treatments experienced 100&plusmn;0.00 percent sprouting except for half and quarter strengths. Plantlets in MS full strength had the highest fresh weight, leaf area, and longest shoot length when compared to other treatments. All explants in full, half, quarter strengths and control had the same number of leaves and sprout rate. Between the treatments, there was a significant difference (P&gt;0.05) in their effect on the length of shoot and root, number of adventitious root, leaf area, and fresh weight. Full strength had the highest mean value in all the above-mentioned parameters and differed significantly (P&gt;0.05) from others except in shoot length, number of adventitious roots, and root length where it did not differ (P&lt;0.05) from half strength. The result of this study indicates that full strength MS basal medium offers a better option for the optimum growth for <em>Treculia africana</em> regeneration <em>in vitro</em>. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=medium%20strengths" title="medium strengths">medium strengths</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Murashige%20and%20Skoog" title=" Murashige and Skoog"> Murashige and Skoog</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Treculia%20africana" title=" Treculia africana"> Treculia africana</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=zygotic%20embryos" title=" zygotic embryos"> zygotic embryos</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/52186/comparative-growth-rates-of-treculia-africana-decne-embryo-in-varied-strengths-of-murashige-and-skoog-basal-medium" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/52186.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">253</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12808</span> Controller Design for Active Suspension System of 1/4 Car with Unknown Mass and Time-Delay </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ali%20Al-Zughaibi">Ali Al-Zughaibi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The purpose of this paper is to present a modeling and control of the quarter car active suspension system with unknown mass, unknown time-delay and road disturbance. The objective is to provide comfort to the driver. The main idea of skyhook control is to imagine a damper connected to an imaginary sky; thus, the feedback is performed with the resultant force between the imaginary and the suspension damper. The first control technique is the Mandani fuzzy skyhook and the second control technique is a Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy skyhook controller, in the both controllers the inputs are the relative velocity between the two masses and the vehicle body velocity, the output of the Mandani fuzzy skyhook is the coefficient of imaginary damper viscous-friction and the Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy skyhook is the force. Finally, we compared the techniques. The Mandani fuzzy skyhook showed a more comfortable response to the driver, followed closely by the Takagi- Sugeno fuzzy skyhook. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=active%20suspention" title="active suspention">active suspention</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mandani" title=" Mandani"> Mandani</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quarter-car" title=" quarter-car"> quarter-car</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=skyhook" title=" skyhook"> skyhook</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sugeno" title=" Sugeno"> Sugeno</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/32492/comparison-of-two-fuzzy-skyhook-control-strategies-applied-to-an-active-suspension" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/32492.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">464</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12805</span> The Structure and Composition of Plant Communities in Ajluon Forest Reserve in Jordan</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Maher%20J.%20Tadros">Maher J. It consists of Mediterranean hills dominated by open woodlands of oak and pistachio. The aims of the study were to investigate the positive and negative relationships between the locals and the protected area and how it can affect the long-term forest conservation. The main research objectives are to review the impact of establishing Ajloun Forest Reserve on nature conservation and on the livelihood level of local communities around the reserve. The Ajloun forest reserve plays a fundamental role in Ajloun area development. The existence of initiatives of nature conservation in the area supports various socio-economic activities around the reserve that contribute towards the development of local communities in Ajloun area. A part of this research was to conduct a survey to study the impact of Ajloun forest reserve on biodiversity composition. Also, studying the biodiversity content especially for vegetation to determine the economic impacts of Ajloun forest reserve on its surroundings was studied. In this study, several methods were used to fill the objectives including point-centered quarter method which involves selecting randomly 50 plots at the study site. The collected data from the field showed that the absolute density was (1031.24 plant per hectare). Density was recorded and found to be the highest for Quecus coccifera, and relative density of (73.7%), this was followed by Arbutus andrachne and relative density (7.1%), Pistacia palaestina and relative density (10.5%) and Crataegus azarulus (82.5 p/ha) and relative density (5.1%), <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=composition" title="composition">composition</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=density" title=" density"> density</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=frequency" title=" frequency"> frequency</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=importance%20value" title=" importance value"> importance value</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=point-centered%20quarter" title=" point-centered quarter"> point-centered quarter</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=structure" title=" structure"> structure</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tree%20cover" title=" tree cover"> tree cover</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/76363/the-structure-and-composition-of-plant-communities-in-ajluon-forest-reserve-in-jordan" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/76363.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">278</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12804</span> Addressing Undernourishment of Pupils in a Depressed Community through Feeding Program and Vitamin Supplementation </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alma%20M.%20Corpuz">Alma M. Pupils were fed for one month with heavy breakfast and afternoon snacks. They were also given vitamins daily. Findings revealed that most of the pupils regained normal Body Mass Indices (BMIs) during a routine weighing in the school opening. In addition, results revealed that the academic performance of the pupils in the 4th Quarter, after the feeding program, was higher compared to the 3rd Quarter period. The researchers recommended that school extension programs should prioritize activities to address malnutrition among pupils to help them perform well in academics. In addition, feeding programs must include heavy meal plans like what was implemented in this project. The feeding program must also include giving of milk and vitamins to ensure significant improvement in their nutrition. It is also important that feacalysis and deworming be performed before the feeding program and proper handwashing be integrated into the feeding activity. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wasted" title="wasted">wasted</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=severely%20wasted" title=" severely wasted"> severely wasted</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=body%20mass%20index" title=" body mass index"> body mass index</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=supplemental%20feeding" title=" supplemental feeding"> supplemental feeding</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/33474/addressing-undernourishment-of-pupils-in-a-depressed-community-through-feeding-program-and-vitamin-supplementation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/33474.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">275</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12803</span> Shuffled Structure for 4.225 GHz Antireflective Plates: A Proposal Proven by Numerical Simulation</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Shin-Ku%20Lee">Shin-Ku Lee</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ming-Tsu%20Ho"> Ming-Tsu Ho</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> A newly proposed antireflective selector with shuffled structure is reported in this paper. The proposed idea is made of two different quarter wavelength (QW) slabs and numerically supported by the one-dimensional simulation results provided by the method of characteristics (MOC) to function as an antireflective selector. These two QW slabs are characterized by dielectric constants εᵣA and εᵣB, uniformly divided into N and N+1 pieces respectively which are then shuffled to form an antireflective plate with B(AB)N structure such that there is always one εᵣA piece between two εᵣB pieces. Another is A(BA)N structure where every εᵣB piece is sandwiched by two εᵣA pieces. Both proposed structures are numerically proved to function as QW plates. In order to allow maximum transmission through the proposed structures, the two dielectric constants are chosen to have the relation of (εᵣA)² = εᵣB > 1. The advantages of the proposed structures over the traditional anti-reflection coating techniques are two components with two thicknesses and to shuffle to form new QW structures. The design wavelength used to validate the proposed idea is 71 mm corresponding to a frequency about 4.225 GHz. The computational results are shown in both time and frequency domains revealing that the proposed structures produce minimum reflections around the frequency of interest. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=method%20of%20characteristics" title="method of characteristics">method of characteristics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quarter%20wavelength" title=" quarter wavelength"> quarter wavelength</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=anti-reflective%20plate" title=" anti-reflective plate"> anti-reflective plate</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=propagation%20of%20electromagnetic%20fields" title=" propagation of electromagnetic fields"> propagation of electromagnetic fields</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/82601/shuffled-structure-for-4225-ghz-antireflective-plates-a-proposal-proven-by-numerical-simulation" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/82601.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">146</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12802</span> Use of Information and Communication Technologies in Enhancing Health Care Delivery for Human Immunodeficiency Virus Patients in Bamenda Health District</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abanda%20Wilfred%20Chick">Abanda Wilfred Chick</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Background: According to World Health Organization (WHO), the role of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in health sectors of developing nations has been demonstrated to have had a great improvement of fifty percent reduction in mortality and or twenty-five-fifty percent increase in productivity. The objective of this study was to assess the use of information and communication technologies in enhancing health care delivery for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) patients in Bamenda Health District. Methods: This was a descriptive-analytical cross-sectional study in which 388 participants were consecutively selected amongst health personnel and HIV patients from public and private health institutions involved in Human Immunodeficiency Virus management. Data on socio-demographic variables, the use of information and communication technologies tools, and associated challenges were collected using structured questionnaires. Descriptive statistics with a ninety-five percent confidence interval were used to summarize findings, while Cramer’s V test, logistic regression, and Chi-square test were used to measure the association between variables, Epi info version7.2, MS Excel, and SPSS version 25.0 were utilized for data entry and statistical analysis respectively. Results: Of the participants, one-quarter were health personnel, and three-quarters were HIV patients. For both groups of participants, there was a significant relationship between the use of ICT and demographic information such as level of education, marital status, and age (p<0.05). For the impediments to using ICT tools, a greater proportion identified the high cost of airtime or internet bundles, followed by an average proportion that indicated inadequate training on ICT tools; for health personnel, the majority said inadequate training on ICT tools/applications and half said unavailability of electricity. Conclusion: Not up to half of the HIV patients effectively make use of ICT tools/applications to receive health care. Of health personnel, three quarters use ICTs, and only one quarter effectively use mobile phones and one-third of computers, respectively, to render care to HIV patients. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ICT%20tools" title="ICT tools">ICT tools</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=HIV%20patients" title=" HIV patients"> HIV patients</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=health%20personnel" title=" health personnel"> health personnel</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=health%20care%20delivery" title=" health care delivery"> health care delivery</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/152451/use-of-information-and-communication-technologies-in-enhancing-health-care-delivery-for-human-immunodeficiency-virus-patients-in-bamenda-health-district" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/152451.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">84</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12801</span> Implementing Action Research in EFL/ESL Classrooms: A Systematic Review of Literature 2010-2019</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Amira%20D.%20Ali">Amira D. A systematic review of action research (AR) studies undertaken in EFL/ESL settings was conducted in this paper to systematically analyze empirical studies on action research published within a ten-year period (between 2010 and 2019). The review also aimed at investigating the focal strategies in teaching the language skills at school level and evaluating the overall quality of AR studies concerning focus, purpose, methodology and contribution. Inclusion criteria were established and 41 studies that fit were finally selected for the systematic review. Garrard’s (2007) Matrix Method was used to structure and synthesize the literature. Results showed a significant diversity in teaching strategies and implementation of the AR model. Almost a quarter of the studies focused on improving writing skills at elementary school level. In addition, findings revealed that (44%) of the studies used a mixed approach followed by qualitative method approach (41%), whereas only (15%) employed quantitative methodology. Research gaps for future action research in developing language skills were pointed out, and recommendations were offered. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=action%20research" title="action research">action research</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=EFL%2FESL%20context" title=" EFL/ESL context"> EFL/ESL context</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=language%20skills" title=" language skills"> language skills</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=systematic%20review" title=" systematic review"> systematic review</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/113383/implementing-action-research-in-eflesl-classrooms-a-systematic-review-of-literature-2010-2019" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/113383.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">138</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12800</span> Knowledge, Attitudes and Its Associated Factors on the Provision of Psychological First Aid during Response to Disasters among Public Health Midwives in Colombo</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=S.%20P.%20Hewagama">S. Psychological first aid (PFA) is humane supportive response for suffering. All health workers especially PHMs who play a major role as first responders in a disaster should be able to provide basic PFA effectively. Aim of this study was to assess the knowledge, attitudes and associated factors on the provision of PFA among PHMs during disasters. A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out among 307 Public Health Midwives in Colombo RDHS area. In the study population, 86.6% (n=266) of the respondents were aware of the term “Psychological first aid” while 13.4% (n=41) were not aware. The total knowledge score was good in majority 85.4%(n=262) of the respondents while only 14.3%(n=45) had a poor knowledge on PFA. There was the statistically significant difference in relation to the level of education with the total knowledge score. Comprehensive desirable attitudes towards PFA was low (30.61%, n=94). According to the study, only a less than a quarter (21.82%, (n = 67)) of the study population had received training on PFA. More than half (56%, n=172) of the respondents had experience in responding to disasters. Conclusions and Recommendations: The overall knowledge and attitudes were found to be satisfactory. However, it is important to improve the knowledge level of the PHMs by providing training and workshops on PFA. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=disaster" title="disaster">disaster</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=humane%20supportive%20assistance" title=" humane supportive assistance"> humane supportive assistance</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=psychological%20first%20aid" title=" psychological first aid"> psychological first aid</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=public%20health%20midwives" title=" public health midwives"> public health midwives</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/104083/knowledge-attitudes-and-its-associated-factors-on-the-provision-of-psychological-first-aid-during-response-to-disasters-among-public-health-midwives-in-colombo" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/104083.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">259</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12799</span> Challenging the Standard 24 Equal Quarter Tones Theory in Arab Music: A Case Study of Tetrachords Bayyātī and ḤIjāz</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Nabil%20Shair">Nabil Shair</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Arab music maqām (Arab modal framework) is founded, among other main characteristics, on microtonal intervals. Notwithstanding the importance and multifaceted nature of intonation in Arab music, there is a paucity of studies examining this subject based on scientific and quantitative approaches. The present-day theory concerning the Arab tone system is largely based on the pioneering treatise of Mīkhā’īl Mashāqah (1840), which proposes the theoretical division of the octave into 24 equal quarter tones. This kind of equal-tempered division is incompatible with the performance practice of Arab music, as many professional Arab musicians conceptualize additional pitches beyond the standard 24 notes per octave. In this paper, we refute the standard theory presenting the scale of well-tempered quarter tones by implementing a quantitative analysis of the performed intonation of two prominent tetrachords in Arab music, namely bayyātī and ḥijāz. This analysis was conducted with the help of advanced computer programs, such as Sonic Visualiser and Tony, by which we were able to obtain precise frequency data (Hz) of each tone every 0.01 second. As a result, the value (in cents) of all three intervals of each tetrachord was measured and accordingly compared to the theoretical intervals. As a result, a specific distribution of a range of deviation from the equal-tempered division of the octave was detected, especially the detection of a diminished first interval of bayyātí and diminished second interval of ḥijāz. These types of intonation entail a considerable amount of flexibility, mainly influenced by surrounding tones, direction and function of the measured tone, ornaments, text, personal style of the performer and interaction with the audience. This paper seeks to contribute to the existing literature dealing with intonation in Arab music, as it is a vital part of the performance practice of this musical tradition. In addition, the insights offered by this paper and its novel methodology might also contribute to the broadening of the existing pedagogic methods used to teach Arab music. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arab%20music" title="Arab music">Arab music</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=intonation" title=" intonation"> intonation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=performance%20practice" title=" performance practice"> performance practice</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=music%20theory" title=" music theory"> music theory</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=oral%20music" title=" oral music"> oral music</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=octave%20division" title=" octave division"> octave division</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tetrachords" title=" tetrachords"> tetrachords</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=music%20of%20the%20middle%20east" title=" music of the middle east"> music of the middle east</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=music%20history" title=" music history"> music history</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=musical%20intervals" title=" musical intervals"> musical intervals</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/183271/challenging-the-standard-24-equal-quarter-tones-theory-in-arab-music-a-case-study-of-tetrachords-bayyati-and-ijaz" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/183271.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">52</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12798</span> Evidence of Behavioural Thermoregulation by Dugongs (Dugong dugon) at the High Latitude Limit to Their Range in Eastern Australia</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Daniel%20R.%20Zeh">Daniel R. Marine mammals can lose heat at high rates and have evolved a range of adaptations to minimise heat loss. Our project tracked dugongs to examine if there was a discoverable relationship between the animals’ movements and the temperature of their environment that might suggest behavioural thermoregulation. Twenty-nine dugongs were fitted with acoustic and satellite/GPS transmitters in 2012, 2013 and 2014 in Moreton Bay Queensland at the high latitude limit of the species’ winter range in eastern Australia on 30 occasions (one animal was tagged twice). All 22 animals that stayed in the area and had functional transmitters made at least one (and up to 66) return trip(s) to the warmer oceanic waters outside the bay where seagrass is unavailable. Individual dugongs went in and out of the bay in synchrony with the tides and typically spent about 6 hours in the oceanic water. There was a diel pattern in the movements: 85% of outgoing trips occurred between midnight and noon. There were significant individual differences, but the likelihood of a dugong leaving the bay was independent of body length or sex. In Quarter 2 (April – June), the odds of a dugong making a trip increased by about 40% for each 1°C increase in the temperature difference between the bay and the warmer adjacent oceanic waters. In Quarter 3, the odds of making a trip were lower when the outside –inside bay temperature differences were small or negative but increased by a factor of up to 2.12 for each 1°C difference in outside – inside temperatures. In Quarter 4, the odds of making a trip were higher when it was cooler outside the bay and decreased by a factor of nearly 0.5 for each 1°C difference in outside – inside bay temperatures. The activity spaces of the dugongs generally declined as winter progressed suggesting a change in the cost-effectiveness of moving outside the bay. Our analysis suggests that dugongs can thermoregulate their core temperature through the behaviour of moving to water having more favourable temperature. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=acoustic" title="acoustic">acoustic</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=behavioral%20thermoregulation" title=" behavioral thermoregulation"> behavioral thermoregulation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dugongs" title=" dugongs"> dugongs</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=movements" title=" movements"> movements</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=satellite" title=" satellite"> satellite</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=telemetry" title=" telemetry"> telemetry</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=quick%20fix%20GPS" title=" quick fix GPS"> quick fix GPS</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/76011/evidence-of-behavioural-thermoregulation-by-dugongs-dugong-dugon-at-the-high-latitude-limit-to-their-range-in-eastern-australia" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/76011.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">173</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12797</span> Rhythm-Reading Success Using Conversational Solfege</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kelly%20Jo%20Hollingsworth">Kelly Jo Hollingsworth</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Conversational Solfege, a research-based, 12-step music literacy instructional method using the sound-before-sight approach, was used to teach rhythm-reading to 128-second grade students at a public school in the southeastern United States. For each step, multiple scripted techniques are supplied to teach each skill. Unit one was the focus of this study, which is quarter note and barred eighth note rhythms. During regular weekly music instruction, students completed method steps one through five, which includes aural discrimination, decoding familiar and unfamiliar rhythm patterns, and improvising rhythmic phrases using quarter notes and barred eighth notes. Intact classes were randomly assigned to two treatment groups for teaching steps six through eight, which was the visual presentation and identification of quarter notes and barred eighth notes, visually presenting and decoding familiar patterns, and visually presenting and decoding unfamiliar patterns using said notation. For three weeks, students practiced steps six through eight during regular weekly music class. One group spent five-minutes of class time on steps six through eight technique work, while the other group spends ten-minutes of class time practicing the same techniques. A pretest and posttest were administered, and ANOVA results reveal both the five-minute (p < .001) and ten-minute group (p < .001) reached statistical significance suggesting Conversational Solfege is an efficient, effective approach to teach rhythm-reading to second grade students. After two weeks of no instruction, students were retested to measure retention. Using a repeated-measures ANOVA, both groups reached statistical significance (p < .001) on the second posttest, suggesting both the five-minute and ten-minute group retained rhythm-reading skill after two weeks of no instruction. Statistical significance was not reached between groups (p=.252), suggesting five-minutes is equally as effective as ten-minutes of rhythm-reading practice using Conversational Solfege techniques. Future research includes replicating the study with other grades and units in the text. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=conversational%20solfege" title="conversational solfege">conversational solfege</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=length%20of%20instructional%20time" title=" length of instructional time"> length of instructional time</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rhythm-reading" title=" rhythm-reading"> rhythm-reading</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rhythm%20instruction" title=" rhythm instruction"> rhythm instruction</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/100902/rhythm-reading-success-using-conversational-solfege" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/100902.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">157</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12796</span> Extensions to Chen&#039;s Minimizing Equal Mass Paralellogram Solutions</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Abdalla%20Manur">Abdalla Manur</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Daniel%20Offin"> Daniel Offin</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Alessandro%20Arsie"> Alessandro Arsie</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In this paper, we study the extension of the minimizing equal mass parallelogram solutions which was derived by Chen in 2001. The main contributing sectors of air pollution in Alexandria are industry, transportation and area source due to human activities. Alexandria includes more than 40% of the industrial activities in Egypt. Cement manufacture contributes a significant amount to the particulate pollution load. Alexandria Portland Cement Company (APCC) surrounding was selected to be the study area. APCC main kiln stack Total Suspended Particulate (TSP) continuous monitoring data was collected for assessment of dust emission control technology. Electro Static Precipitator (ESP) was fixed on the cement kiln since 2002. The collected data of TSP for first quarter of 2012 was compared to that one in first quarter of 2013 after installation of new bag house filter. In the present study, based on these monitoring data and metrological data a detailed air dispersion modeling investigation was carried out using the Industrial Source Complex Short Term model (ISC3-ST) to find out the impact of applying new bag house filter control technology on the neighborhood ambient air quality. The model results show a drastic reduction of the ambient TSP hourly average concentration from 44.94μg/m3 to 5.78μg/m3 which assures the huge positive impact on the ambient air quality by applying bag house filter technology on APCC cement kiln <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=air%20pollution%20modeling" title="air pollution modeling">air pollution modeling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ambient%20air%20quality" title=" ambient air quality"> ambient air quality</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=baghouse%20filter" title=" baghouse filter"> baghouse filter</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cement%20industry" title=" cement industry"> cement industry</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/30754/impact-of-applying-bag-house-filter-technology-in-cement-industry-on-ambient-air-quality-case-study-alexandria-cement-company" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/30754.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">269</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12794</span> Annexing the Strength of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for Real-time TB Reporting Using TB Situation Room (TSR) in Nigeria: Kano State Experience</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ibrahim%20Umar">Ibrahim Umar</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ashiru%20Rajab"> Ashiru Rajab</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Sumayya%20Chindo"> Sumayya Chindo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Emmanuel%20Olashore"> Emmanuel Olashore</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> INTRODUCTION: Kano is the most populous state in Nigeria and one of the two states with the highest TB burden in the country. The state notifies an average of 8,000+ TB cases quarterly and has the highest yearly notification of all the states in Nigeria from 2020 to 2022. The contribution of the state TB program to the National TB notification varies from 9% to 10% quarterly between the first quarter of 2022 and second quarter of 2023. The Kano State TB Situation Room is an innovative platform for timely data collection, collation and analysis for informed decision in health system. During the 2023 second National TB Testing week (NTBTW) Kano TB program aimed at early TB detection, prevention and treatment. The state TB Situation room provided avenue to the state for coordination and surveillance through real time data reporting, review, analysis and use during the NTBTW. OBJECTIVES: To assess the role of innovative information and communication technology platform for real-time TB reporting during second National TB Testing week in Nigeria 2023. To showcase the NTBTW data cascade analysis using TSR as innovative ICT platform. METHODOLOGY: The State TB deployed a real-time virtual dashboard for NTBTW reporting, analysis and feedback. A data room team was set up who received realtime data using google link. Data received was analyzed using power BI analytic tool with statistical alpha level of significance of <0.05. RESULTS: At the end of the week-long activity and using the real-time dashboard with onsite mentorship of the field workers, the state TB program was able to screen a total of 52,054 people were screened for TB from 72,112 individuals eligible for screening (72% screening rate). A total of 9,910 presumptive TB clients were identified and evaluated for TB leading to diagnosis of 445 TB patients with TB (5% yield from presumptives) and placement of 435 TB patients on treatment (98% percentage enrolment). CONCLUSION: The TB Situation Room (TBSR) has been a great asset to Kano State TB Control Program in meeting up with the growing demand for timely data reporting in TB and other global health responses. The use of real time surveillance data during the 2023 NTBTW has in no small measure improved the TB response and feedback in Kano State. Scaling up this intervention to other disease areas, states and nations is a positive step in the right direction towards global TB eradication. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tuberculosis%20%28tb%29" title="tuberculosis (tb)">tuberculosis (tb)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=national%20tb%20testing%20week%20%28ntbtw%29" title=" national tb testing week (ntbtw)"> national tb testing week (ntbtw)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=tb%20situation%20rom%20%28tsr%29" title=" tb situation rom (tsr)"> tb situation rom (tsr)</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=information%20communication%20technology%20%28ict%29" title=" information communication technology (ict)"> information communication technology (ict)</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/179032/annexing-the-strength-of-information-and-communication-technology-ict-for-real-time-tb-reporting-using-tb-situation-room-tsr-in-nigeria-kano-state-experience" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/179032.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">71</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12793</span> Efficacy of Conservation Strategies for Endangered Garcinia gummi gutta under Climate Change in Western Ghats</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Malay%20K.%20Pramanik">Malay K. The assessment of the species potential distribution and the spatial changes under various climate change scenarios is a significant step towards the conservation and mitigation of habitat shifts, and species' loss and vulnerability. In this context, the present study aimed to predict the influence of current and future climate on an ecologically vulnerable medicinal species, Garcinia gummi-gutta, of the southern Western Ghats using Maximum Entropy (MaxEnt) modeling. The future projections were made for the period of 2050 and 2070 with RCP (Representative Concentration Pathways) scenario of 4.5 and 8.5 using 84 species occurrence data, and climatic variables from three different models of Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC) fifth assessment. Climatic variables contributions were assessed using jackknife test and AOC value 0.888 indicates the model perform with high accuracy. The major influencing variables will be annual precipitation, precipitation of coldest quarter, precipitation seasonality, and precipitation of driest quarter. The model result shows that the current high potential distribution of the species is around 1.90% of the study area, 7.78% is good potential; about 90.32% is moderate to very low potential for species suitability. Finally, the results of all model represented that there will be a drastic decline in the suitable habitat distribution by 2050 and 2070 for all the RCP scenarios. The study signifies that MaxEnt model might be an efficient tool for ecosystem management, biodiversity protection, and species re-habitation planning under climate change. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Garcinia%20gummi%20gutta" title="Garcinia gummi gutta">Garcinia gummi gutta</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=maximum%20entropy%20modeling" title=" maximum entropy modeling"> maximum entropy modeling</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=medicinal%20plants" title=" medicinal plants"> medicinal plants</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=climate%20change" title=" climate change"> climate change</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=western%20ghats" title=" western ghats"> western ghats</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=MaxEnt" title=" MaxEnt"> MaxEnt</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/83846/efficacy-of-conservation-strategies-for-endangered-garcinia-gummi-gutta-under-climate-change-in-western-ghats" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/83846.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">391</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12792</span> The Impact of Financial Risk on Banks’ Financial Performance: A Comparative Study of Islamic Banks and Conventional Banks in Pakistan</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohammad%20Yousaf%20Safi%20Mohibullah%20Afghan">Mohammad Yousaf Safi Mohibullah Afghan</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The study made on Islamic and conventional banks scrutinizes the risks interconnected with credit and liquidity on the productivity performance of Islamic and conventional banks that operate in Pakistan. Among the banks, only 4 Islamic and 18 conventional banks have been selected to enrich the result of our study on Islamic banks performance in connection to conventional banks. The selection of the banks to the panel is based on collecting quarterly unbalanced data ranges from the first quarter of 2007 to the last quarter of 2017. The data are collected from the Bank’s web sites and State Bank of Pakistan. The data collection is carried out based on Delta-method test. The mentioned test is used to find out the empirical results. In the study, while collecting data on the banks, the return on assets and return on equity have been major factors that are used assignificant proxies in determining the profitability of the banks. Moreover, another major proxy is used in measuring credit and liquidity risks, the loan loss provision to total loan and the ratio of liquid assets to total liability. Meanwhile, with consideration to the previous literature, some other variables such as bank size, bank capital, bank branches, and bank employees have been used to tentatively control the impact of those factors whose direct and indirect effects on profitability is understood. In conclusion, the study emphasizes that credit risk affects return on asset and return on equity positively, and there is no significant difference in term of credit risk between Islamic and conventional banks. Similarly, the liquidity risk has a significant impact on the bank’s profitability, though the marginal effect of liquidity risk is higher for Islamic banks than conventional banks. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=islamic%20%26%20conventional%20banks" title="islamic &amp; conventional banks">islamic &amp; conventional banks</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=performance%20return%20on%20equity" title=" performance return on equity"> performance return on equity</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=return%20on%20assets" title=" return on assets"> return on assets</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=pakistan%20banking%20sectors" title=" pakistan banking sectors"> pakistan banking sectors</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=profitibility" title=" profitibility"> profitibility</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/164448/the-impact-of-financial-risk-on-banks-financial-performance-a-comparative-study-of-islamic-banks-and-conventional-banks-in-pakistan" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/164448.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">163</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12791</span> A Compact Via-less Ultra-Wideband Microstrip Filter by Utilizing Open-Circuit Quarter Wavelength Stubs</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Muhammad%20Yasir%20Wadood">Muhammad Yasir Wadood</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Fatemeh%20Babaeian"> Fatemeh Babaeian</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> By developing ultra-wideband (UWB) systems, there is a high demand for UWB filters with low insertion loss, wide bandwidth, and having a planar structure which is compatible with other components of the UWB system. A microstrip interdigital filter is a great option for designing UWB filters. However, the presence of via holes in this structure creates difficulties in the fabrication procedure of the filter. Especially in the higher frequency band, any misalignment of the drilled via hole with the Microstrip stubs causes large errors in the measurement results compared to the desired results. Moreover, in this case (high-frequency designs), the line width of the stubs are very narrow, so highly precise small via holes are required to be implemented, which increases the cost of fabrication significantly. Also, in this case, there is a risk of having fabrication errors. To combat this issue, in this paper, a via-less UWB microstrip filter is proposed which is designed based on a modification of a conventional inter-digital bandpass filter. The novel approaches in this filter design are 1) replacement of each via hole with a quarter-wavelength open circuit stub to avoid the complexity of manufacturing, 2) using a bend structure to reduce the unwanted coupling effects and 3) minimising the size. Using the proposed structure, a UWB filter operating in the frequency band of 3.9-6.6 GHz (1-dB bandwidth) is designed and fabricated. The promising results of the simulation and measurement are presented in this paper. The selected substrate for these designs was Rogers RO4003 with a thickness of 20 mils. This is a common substrate in most of the industrial projects. The compact size of the proposed filter is highly beneficial for applications which require a very miniature size of hardware. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=band-pass%20filters" title="band-pass filters">band-pass filters</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=inter-digital%20filter" title=" inter-digital filter"> inter-digital filter</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=microstrip" title=" microstrip"> microstrip</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=via-less" title=" via-less"> via-less</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/102110/a-compact-via-less-ultra-wideband-microstrip-filter-by-utilizing-open-circuit-quarter-wavelength-stubs" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/102110.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">156</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12790</span> Analysis of Patent Protection of Bone Tissue Engineering Scaffold Technology</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yunwei%20Zhang">Yunwei Zhang</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Na%20Li"> Na Li</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Yuhong%20Niu"> Yuhong Niu</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Bone tissue engineering scaffold was regarded as an important clinical technology of curing bony defect. This study used the methods of data classification and classification indexing to analyze 2718 patents retrieved in the patent database. Results showed that the patents coming from United States had a competitive advantage over other countiries in the field of bone tissue engineering scaffold. The number of patent applications by a single company in U.S. was a quarter of that of the world. However, the capability of R&D in China was obviously weaker than global level, patents mainly coming from universities and scientific research institutions. Moreover, it would be predicted that synthetic organic materials as new materials would be gradually replaced by composite materials. The patent technology protections of composite materials would be more strengthened in the future. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bone%20tissue%20engineering" title="bone tissue engineering">bone tissue engineering</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=patent%20analysis" title=" patent analysis"> patent analysis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Scaffold%20material" title=" Scaffold material"> Scaffold material</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=patent%20protection" title=" patent protection"> patent protection</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/105186/analysis-of-patent-protection-of-bone-tissue-engineering-scaffold-technology" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/105186.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">133</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">12789</span> Prevalence of Bovine Mastitis and Associated Risk Factors in Selected Dairy Farms in Zoba Anseba, Eritrea</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Redie%20Kidane%20Ghebrehawariat">Redie Kidane Ghebrehawariat</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Betiel%20Habte%20Hadgu"> Betiel Habte Hadgu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Filmon%20Berhane%20Kahsay"> Filmon Berhane Kahsay</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Rim%20Berhane%20Fisehaye"> Rim Berhane Fisehaye</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Samuel%20Haile%20Kahsay"> Samuel Haile Kahsay</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Saron%20Yemane%20Yosief"> Saron Yemane Yosief</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Selemawit%20Mosazghi%20Gilazghi"> Selemawit Mosazghi Gilazghi</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> A cross-sectional study was conducted from 22 February to 9 April 2022 on small, medium, and large holder dairy farms to determine the bovine mastitis prevalence and associated risk factors in the Anseba region, Eritrea. A total of 34 dairy farms and 193 dairy cows were randomly selected. Dairy cows were physically examined for any change on the udder and milk; a California mastitis test was performed to check sub-clinical mastitis; a closed-ended semi-structured questionnaire composed of 28 variables/risk factors (21 management risk factors and 7 animal-level risk factors) was used to determine the risk factors responsible for clinical and sub-clinical mastitis in the dairy cows. The overall cow-level prevalence of mastitis was 147 (76.2%). The animal level prevalence rate of clinical and sub-clinical mastitis was found to be 22 (11.4%) and 125 (64.8%), respectively, while herd level prevalence both for clinical and subclinical mastitis was found to be 14 (41.2%) and 26 (76.5%) respectively. Based on the already set P-value, which is <0.05, a number of risk factors were found to have a significant relationship with the occurrence of clinical and sub-clinical mastitis. Generally, animal risk factors such as animal age, parity, injury on the udder or teat, and previous history of mastitis presence of injury on the udder and lactation stage were risk factors with a significant relationship with the occurrence of clinical and sub-clinical mastitis. On the other hand, management risk factors with a significant relationship to the occurrence of clinical and sub-clinical mastitis were herd size, failure to milk mastitic cow, at last, educational level, floor type, failure to use a towel, using one towel for more than one cow and failure to practice mastitis test. From a total of 772 quarters, 280 (36.3%) were found positive for sub-clinical mastitis using the California mastitis test; of these, 70 (9%) were weakly positive, 90 (11.7%) were distinct positive, and 120 (15.5%) were strongly positive. Furthermore, 13 (1.7%) quarters were blocked. Quarter level prevalence was right front 80 (41.5%), left front 64 (33.3%), right hind 69 (35.8%) and left hind 67 (34.7%). The study has shown that mastitis is a major problem for dairy farms and the findings suggested that mastitis is one of the limiting factors in increasing milk production. Subclinical mastitis was found to be a devastating problem, and it occurred in all three breeds of lactating dairy cattle. Therefore, farmers should work hard to avoid the above-mentioned risk factors to minimize the infection of their dairy cattle by mastitis and thereby increase their profit. On the other hand, the Ministry of Agriculture, through the extension unit, should work in close contact with the farmers to increase awareness of the economic importance of the disease and associated risk factors. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=mastitis" title="mastitis">mastitis</a>, <a
