To protect the data from unauthorized access, all data on your computer鈥檚 internal hard drive is converted into unreadable code that cannot be deciphered easily.</p></a><a href="https://tech.rochester.edu/services/dns/" class="list-group-item"><h3>Domain Name System (DNS)</h3><p>The Domain Name System (DNS) translates computer names to Internet Protocol addresses. This naming structure makes it easier to access resources on the Internet or University network. Third-level host or domain names under rochester.edu are reserved for names of organizational sub-divisions or institution-wide activities/services. All names must be registered with University IT.</p></a><a href="https://tech.rochester.edu/services/dhcp/" class="list-group-item"><h3>Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP)</h3><p>Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol automatically configures the necessary settings when connecting a computer to the network. It allows you to more easily connect your computer to the University network from any participating UR location. Departments can apply for use of DHCP to support their computers' connection to the University network.</p></a><a href="https://tech.rochester.edu/services/architecture/" class="list-group-item"><h3>Enterprise Architecture</h3><p>Enterprise architecture describes the principles and standards by which the organization utilizes information technology to meet business objectives.
