By measuring the very-forward particle production rates at the highest energy possible at an accelerator, LHCf will provide fundamental informations to improve phenomenological hadronic interaction models used in the simulation of air-showers induced by ultra-high-energy cosmic rays in the atmosphere. The experiment consists of two small independent detectors placed 140 metres away from the ATLAS interaction point (IP1), on opposite sides. Each detector is made of two sampling and position sensitive calorimeters. This contribution will focus on the Run II physics results of LHCf in proton-proton collisions at 13 TeV. At first the photon energy spectrum will be presented and compared with the predictions of several hadronic interaction models. The advantages of the ATLAS-LHCf combined analysis will then be discussed and the preliminary spectrum of very-forward photons produced in diffractive collisions (tagged by ATLAS) will be shown together with models predictions. The preliminary Feynman-x and transverse momentum spectrum of $\pi^0$, and the Feynman-x spectrum of $\eta$ will also be presented. Photons and $\pi^0$ production cross section provides important information about the electromagnetic component of an air-shower, while $\eta$ measurements give the possibility to probe the strange-quark related contribution. Finally, the neutron energy spectrum measured in several pseudorapidity regions will be shown and compared with the predictions of various hadronic interaction models. From these measurements the average inelasticity of the collisions, which strongly affects the development of an air-shower, has also been extracted.

<dc:title xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xml:lang="fr"/> <dc:hasPart xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">['']</dc:hasPart> <dc:hasVersion xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/"/>

Measurement of the forward η meson production rate in p-p collisions at $ \sqrt{\textrm{s}} $ = 13 TeV with the LHCf-Arm2 detector

The forward η mesons production has been observed by the Large Hadron Collider forward (LHCf) experiment in proton-proton collision at √s=13 TeV. This paper presents the measurement of the inclusive production rate of η in pT < 1.1 GeV/c, expressed as a function of the Feynman-x variable. These results are compared with the predictions of several hadronic interaction models commonly used for the modelling of the air showers produced by ultra-high energy cosmic rays. This is both the first measurement of η mesons from LHCf and the first time a particle containing strange quarks has been observed in the forward region for high-energy collisions. These results will provide a powerful constraint on hadronic interaction models for the purpose of improving the understanding of the processes underlying the air showers produced in the Earth’s atmosphere by ultra-energetic cosmic rays.

<dc:source xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">arXiv:2305.06633</dc:source>

<dc:title xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xml:lang="fr"/> <dc:hasPart xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">['arXiv:2305.06633']</dc:hasPart> <dc:hasVersion xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">arXiv:2305.06633</dc:hasVersion>

Results from the LHCf Run II in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV

The LHCf experiment, at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), consists of two small independent calorimeters placed 140 metres away, on opposite sides of the ATLAS interaction point (IP1). Using compact calorimeters neutral particles produced in pseudorapidities η >8.4 and η >6.0 are observed by the respective experiments. Because the collision energies ranging from 0.51 TeV to 13 TeV correspond to the cosmic-ray equivalent energies of 1014 to 1017 eV, the measurements are important to understand the hadronic interaction relevant to extensive air shower measurements. This paper reviews recent results of LHCf and initial performance of RHICf that took data in the 2017 RHIC operation.

<dc:title xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xml:lang="fr"/> <dc:hasPart xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">['']</dc:hasPart> <dc:hasVersion xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/"/>

LHCf plan for proton-oxygen collisions at LHC

The LHCf experiment is designed to provide precise measurements of very forward neutral particle production from high energy proton-proton, proton-ion and ion-ion collisions. This information is necessary to test and tune hadronic interaction models used by ground-based cosmic rays experiments to extract the average composition of Ultra High Energy Cosmic Rays. In order to reach this goal, LHCf makes use of two small sampling calorimeters installed in the LHC tunnel at $\pm 140$ m from Interaction Point 1, both able to detect neutral particles having pseudo-rapidity $\eta > 8.4$. In LHC Run I and II, the LHCf experiment acquired data relative to p-p collisions at $\sqrt{s} = $ 0.9, 2.76, 7 and 13 TeV, and p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = $ 5.02 and 8.16 TeV. Forward production from p-p and p-Pb collisions are not directly applicable to the tuning of the model used to simulate extensive air showers, since the first interaction between a cosmic ray and an atmospheric nucleus generally involves a light nucleus, like N or O. In LHC Run III, we will have the unique opportunity to directly measure forward production from high energy p-O collisions, without the need to obtain this information by interpolating the measurements from p-p and p-Pb collisions. In this contribution, we discuss the importance of such a measurement, focusing on all the benefits in terms of a more direct and complete input for model tuning, and on the operation plans, including the importance to take data both from high energy p-O and O-O collisions.

<dc:title xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xml:lang="fr"/> <dc:hasPart xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">['']</dc:hasPart> <dc:hasVersion xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/"/>

Status and Prospects of the LHCf and RHICf experiments

Precise understanding of hadronic interactions at high energies is a key to improve mass composition measurements of very high energy cosmic-rays and to solve the muon excess issue observed in high energy cosmic-ray experiments using an air-shower technique. The LHCf and RHICf experiments measures the differential production cross sections of very forward neutral particle as photons, neutral pions and neutrons at LHC and RHIC, respectively. These data are critically important to test and tune hadronic interaction models used for air-shower simulations. In this presentation, we introduce the recent results of both the experiments as well as our future operation plans. LHCf published an updated result of forward neutron measurement at pp, $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV. From the observed neutron energy spectra, we also obtained the average inelasticity, which is one of the key parameters for air shower development, as 0.536 +0.031-0.037. In addition, several analysis are on-going; neutral pion measurement at pp, $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV, central- forward correlation analysis with LHCf+ATLAS, photon measurement by RHICf. LHCf plans to have operations at $pp$ and $p$O during the LHC-Run3 period. At pp collisions, new silicon readout system will be introduced to improve the read-out speed, and 10 times more statistics of the previous operation in 2015 will be obtained. Thanks to high statistics, rare particles such as $\eta$, $K^0_s$ and $\Lambda$ will be addressed also. We also plan another operation at RHIC in 2024 with a new detector. The detector, a calorimeter composed of tungsten, Si pad and pixel layers, will have a much wider acceptance and higher sensitivity of $K^0_s$ measurement than the current detector.

<dc:title xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xml:lang="fr"/> <dc:hasPart xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">['']</dc:hasPart> <dc:hasVersion xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/"/>

Very-forward $\pi^0$ production cross section in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt {s}$ = 13 TeV measured with the LHCf experiment

The LHCf experiment, situated at the LHC accelerator, is composed of two independent detectors located at 140 metres from the ATLAS interaction point (IP1) on opposite sides along the beam axis. LHCf covers the pseudorapidity region above 8.4, with the capability to measure zero-degree neutral particles. The physics motivation of the experiment is to test the hadronic interaction models commonly used in ground-based cosmic rays experiments to simulate air-showers induced by ultra-high-energy cosmic rays (UHECR) in the Earth atmosphere. The data from accelerator experiments are very important for the tuning of these phenomenological models in order to reduce the systematic uncertainty of UHECR measurements. A precise measurement of the $\pi^0$s produced in the very-forward region in high energy collisions provides the possibility to study the electromagnetic component of secondary particles produced in the first interaction of a UHECR with the atmosphere. In this contribution the preliminary results from the $\pi^0$ analysis of the data acquired in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV will be presented. The Feynman-x and transverse momentum spectra obtained with the two detectors will be compared to show the consistency of the results.

<dc:title xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xml:lang="fr"/> <dc:hasPart xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">['']</dc:hasPart> <dc:hasVersion xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/"/>

The results and future prospects of the LHCf experiment

The LHCf forward (LHCf) experiment measures the production cross sections of neutral particles emitted to the very forward region of an LHC interaction point in order to test the hadronic interaction models used in air-shower simulations. During the last 20 years, the advent space-borne magnetic spectrometers in space (AMS-01, Pamela, AMS-02), able to measure the charged cosmic radiation separating matter from antimatter, and to provide accurate measurement of the rarest components of Cosmic Rays (CRs) to the highest possible energies, have become possible, together with the ultra-precise measurement of ordinary CRs. These developments started the era of precision Cosmic Ray physics providing access to a rich program of high-energy astrophysics addressing fundamental questions like matter-antimatter asymmetry, indirect detection for Dark Matter and the detailed study of origin, acceleration and propagation of CRs and their interactions with the interstellar medium. In this paper we address the above-mentioned scientific questions, in the context of a second generation, large acceptance, superconducting magnetic spectrometer proposed as mission in the context of the European Space Agency’s Voyage2050 long-term plan: the Antimatter Large Acceptance Detector In Orbit (ALADInO) would extend by about two orders of magnitude in energy and flux sensitivity the separation between charged particles/anti-particles, making it uniquely suited for addressing and potentially solving some of the most puzzling issues of modern cosmology.

<dc:title xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xml:lang="fr"/> <dc:hasPart xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">['']</dc:hasPart> <dc:hasVersion xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/"/>

Measurement of energy flow, cross section and average inelasticity of forward neutrons generated in $\mathrm{\sqrt{s} = 13 TeV}$ proton-proton collisions with the LHCf Arm2 detector

In this paper, we report the measurement of the energy flow, the cross section and the average inelasticity of forward neutrons (+ antineutrons) produced in $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV proton-proton collisions. These quantities are obtained from the inclusive differential production cross section, measured using the LHCf Arm2 detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The measurements are performed in six pseudorapidity regions: three of them ($\eta > 10.75$, $8.99 < \eta < 9.21$ and $8.80 < \eta < 8.99$), albeit with smaller acceptance and larger uncertainties, were already published in a previous work, whereas the remaining three ($10.06 < \eta < 10.75$, $9.65 < \eta < 10.06$ and $8.65 < \eta < 8.80$) are presented here for the first time. The analysis was carried out using a data set acquired in June 2015 with a corresponding integrated luminosity of $\mathrm{0.194~nb^{-1}}$. Comparing the experimental measurements with the expectations of several hadronic interaction models used to simulate cosmic ray air showers, none of these generators resulted to have a satisfactory agreement in all the phase space selected for the analysis. The inclusive differential production cross section for $\eta > 10.75$ is not reproduced by any model, whereas the results still indicate a significant but less serious deviation at lower pseudorapidities. Depending on the pseudorapidity region, the generators showing the best overall agreement with data are either SIBYLL 2.3 or EPOS-LHC. Furthermore, apart from the most forward region, the derived energy flow and cross section distributions are best reproduced by EPOS-LHC. Finally, even if none of the models describe the elasticity distribution in a satisfactory way, the extracted average inelasticity is consistent with the QGSJET II-04 value, while most of the other generators give values that lie just outside the experimental uncertainties.

<dc:creator
The main aim of the LHCf experiment is to provide precise measurements of the production spectra relative to neutral particles produced in the very forward region by high energy proton-proton and proton-ion collisions. This information is necessary in order to test and tune hadronic interaction models used by ground-based cosmic rays experiments. In order to reach this goal, LHCf makes use of two small sampling calorimeters installed in the LHC tunnel at $\pm 140$ m from IP1, able to detect neutral particles having pseudo-rapidity $\eta > 8.4$. After the operations relative to p-p collisions at $\mathrm{\sqrt{s} = 13~TeV}$, the collaboration focused the activity on the study of forward photons and neutrons production at this energy. In this paper, we discuss the recent results relative to the photons analysis, regarding, in particular, the inclusive production cross section, the role of diffractive and non-diffractive processes in forward photons production (investigated thanks to the LHCf-ATLAS joint analysis) and the forward differential energy flow.

<dc:title xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xml:lang="fr"/> <dc:hasPart xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">['']</dc:hasPart> <dc:hasVersion xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/"/>

Performance study for the photon measurements of the upgraded LHCf calorimeters with Gd$_2$SiO$_5$ (GSO) scintillators

The Large Hadron Collider forward (LHCf) experiment was motivated to understand the hadronic interaction processes relevant to cosmic-ray air shower development. We have developed radiation-hard detectors with the use of Gd$_2$SiO$_5$ (GSO) scintillators for proton-proton $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV collisions. Calibration of such detectors for photon measurement has been completed at the CERN SPS T2-H4 line in 2015 using electron beams of 100–250 GeV and muon beams of 150–250 GeV. After the channel-by-channel absolute energy calibration, the energy resolution of the calorimeters is confirmed to be better than 3% for electrons with energy above 100 GeV. The position dependence of the energy scale of the calorimeters was reduced to the level of 1% after the corrections for scintillator nonuniformity and the shower leakage effect. The position resolution of the new shower imaging detector, a GSO-bar hodoscope interleaved in the calorimeter, was 100 $\mu$m for 200 GeV electrons. The experimental results are well explained by Monte Carlo simulations. We have confirmed that the new detectors meet the requirement of the LHCf experiment at $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV.

<dc:title xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xml:lang="fr"/> <dc:hasPart xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">['']</dc:hasPart> <dc:hasVersion xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/"/>

The Resent Results from the LHCf Experiment

The LHCf experiment is an LHC experiment dedicated to measure the production spectra of forward neutral particles, photons, \(\pi ^{0}\)s and neutrons. The obtained results are very useful to test hadronic interaction models which are used in MC simulations for cosmic-ray air shower developments. The LHCf had an operation in 2015 with p–p collisions at \(\sqrt{s} \) = 13 TeV, which corresponds to the collision energy of 0.9 × 10^17 eV in the laboratory frame. We discuss the results of the inclusive energy spectra for forward photons obtained at p–p, \(\sqrt{s} \) = 13 TeV data as well as \(\pi ^{0}\) results taken at p–p, \(\sqrt{s} \) = 7 TeV. In addition we introduce future prospects of LHCf analyses and activities.

<dc:title xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xml:lang="fr"/> <dc:hasPart xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">['']</dc:hasPart> <dc:hasVersion xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/"/>

LHCf - In addition, future prospects of LHCf analyses and activities are reviewed.

<dc:title xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xml:lang="fr"/> <dc:hasPart xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">['']</dc:hasPart> <dc:hasVersion xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/"/>

Measurement of inclusive forward neutron production cross section in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 13$~TeV with the LHCf Arm2 detector

In this paper, we report the measurement relative to the production of forward neutrons in proton-proton collisions at $\mathrm{\sqrt{s} = 13~TeV}$ obtained using the LHCf Arm2 detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The results for the inclusive differential production cross section are presented as a function of energy in three different pseudorapidity regions: $\eta > 10.76$, $8.99 < \eta < 9.22$ and $8.81 < \eta < 8.99$. The analysis was performed using a data set acquired in June 2015 that corresponds to an integrated luminosity of $\mathrm{0.194~nb^{-1}}$. The measurements were compared with the predictions of several hadronic interaction models used to simulate air showers generated by Ultra High Energy Cosmic Rays. None of these generators showed good agreement with the data for all pseudorapidity intervals. For $\eta > 10.76$, no model is able to reproduce the observed peak structure at around $\mathrm{5~TeV}$ and all models underestimate the total production cross section: among them, QGSJET II-04 shows the smallest deficit with respect to data for the whole energy range. For $8.99 < \eta < 9.22$ and $8.81 < \eta < 8.99$, the models having the best overall agreement with data are SIBYLL 2.3 and EPOS-LHC, respectively: in particular, in both regions SIBYLL 2.3 is able to reproduce the observed peak structure at around $\mathrm{1.5-2.5~TeV}$.

<dc:creator Optimization of the detector performance for protons and nuclei

The direct detection of high-energy cosmic rays up to the PeV region is one of the major challenges for the next generation of space-borne cosmic-ray detectors. The physics performance will be primarily determined by their geometrical acceptance and energy resolution. CaloCube is a homogeneous calorimeter whose geometry allows an almost isotropic response, so as to detect particles arriving from every direction in space, thus maximizing the acceptance. A comparative study of different scintillating materials and mechanical structures has been performed by means of Monte Carlo simulation. The scintillation-Cherenkov dual read-out technique has been also considered and its benefit evaluated.

<dc:title xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xml:lang="fr"/> <dc:hasPart xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">['']</dc:hasPart> <dc:hasVersion xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/"/>

CaloCube: a novel calorimeter for high-energy cosmic rays in space

CaloCube is an R&D; project borne to develop a novel calorimeter design, optimized for high-energy cosmic ray measurements in space. Within the constraint of the total mass of the apparatus, crucial for a space mission, the calorimeters must be optimized with respect to their geometrical acceptance, granularity and absorption depth. CaloCube is a homogeneous calorimeter with cubic geometry, to maximise the acceptance being sensitive to particles from every direction in space; granularity is obtained by relying on small cubic scintillating crystals as active elements.
CaloCube: an innovative homogeneous calorimeter for the next-generation space experiments

The direct measurement of the cosmic-ray spectrum, up to the knee region, is one of the instrumental challenges for next generation space experiments. The main issue for these measurements is a steeply falling spectrum with increasing energy, so the physics performance of the space calorimeters are primarily determined by their geometrical acceptance and energy resolution. CaloCube is a three-year R&D; project, approved and financed by INFN in 2014, aiming to optimize the design of a space-born calorimeter. The peculiarity of the design of CaloCube is its capability of detecting particles coming from any direction, and not only those on its upper surface. To ensure that the quality of the measurement does not depend on the arrival direction of the particles, the calorimeter will be designed as homogeneous and isotropic as possible. In addition, to achieve a high discrimination power for hadrons and nuclei with respect to electrons, the sensitive elements of the calorimeter need to have a fine 3-D sampling capability. In order to optimize the detector performances with respect to the total mass of the apparatus, which is the most important constraint for a space launch, a comparative study of different scintillating materials has been performed using detailed Monte Carlo simulation based on the FLUKA package. In parallel to simulation studies, a prototype consisting in 14 layers of 3 x 3 CsI(Tl) crystals per layer has been assembled and tested with particle beams. An overview of the obtained results during the first two years of the project will be presented and the future of the detector will be discussed too.

<dc:title xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xml:lang="fr"/> <dc:hasPart xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">['']</dc:hasPart> <dc:hasVersion xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/"/>

CALOCUBE: an approach to high-granularity and homogenous calorimetry for space based detectors

Future space experiments dedicated to the observation of high-energy gamma and cosmic rays will increasingly rely on a highly performing calorimetry apparatus, and their physics performance will be primarily determined by the geometrical dimensions and the energy resolution of the calorimeter deployed. Thus it is extremely important to optimize its geometrical acceptance, the granularity, and its absorption depth for the measurement of the particle energy with respect to the total mass of the apparatus which is the most important constraint for a space launch. The proposed design tries to satisfy these criteria while staying within a total mass budget of about 1.6 tons. Calocube is a homogeneous calorimeter instrumented with Cesium iodide (CsI) crystals, whose geometry is cubic and isotropic, so as to detect particles arriving from every direction in space, thus maximizing the acceptance, granularity is obtained by filling the cubic volume with small cubic CsI crystals. The total radiation length in any direction is more than adequate for optimal electromagnetic particle identification and energy measurement, whilst the interaction length is at least suficient to allow a precise reconstruction of hadronic showers. Optimal values for the size of the crystals and spacing among them have been studied. The design forms the basis of a three-year R&D; activity which has been approved and financed by INFN. An overall description of the system, as well as results from preliminary tests on particle beams will be described.

<dc:title xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xml:lang="fr"/> <dc:hasPart xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">['']</dc:hasPart> <dc:hasVersion xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/"/>

The performance for the TeV photon measurement of the LHCf upgraded detector using Gd 2 SiO 5 (GSO) scintillators

The Large Hadron Collider forward (LHCf) experiment measures the forward particle production at the LHC to verify hadronic interaction models used in air shower experiments. We have upgraded very small sampling and imaging calorimeters using GSO scintillators to measure the most energetic particles generated in s =13 TeV p–p collisions at the zero-degree region of the LHC. Upgraded detectors were calibrated at the SPS North area facility in CERN and it was confirmed that the detector can measure electro-magnetic showers with energy resolution of 3% and position resolution of better than 123 μm for 100 GeV electrons. The operation of LHCf in 13 TeV p–p collisions has been successfully completed with integrated luminosity of 5 nb −1 . Reconstructed π 0 peak with the mass resolution of 3.7% and stability less than 1% during the operation implies that our measurement was stable enough in the high irradiation condition.

<dc:title xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xml:lang="fr"/> <dc:hasPart xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">['']</dc:hasPart> <dc:hasVersion xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/"/>

RHIC forward experiment to study $\sqrt s$ dependence of forward particle production

The Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider forward experiment is ready to take data in the RHIC Run2017 √s = 510 GeV p-p collisions using the LHCf Arm1 detector. New accelerator data are valuable to verify the Feynman scaling of FX1 production and to study the evolution of the break of scaling in neutron production. Using the transversely polarized proton beam, asymmetric production of forward neutrons is precisely measured. That is useful to understand the fundamental meson exchange in the proton-proton collisions.

<dc:title xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xml:lang="fr"/> <dc:hasPart xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">['']</dc:hasPart> <dc:hasVersion xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/"/>

Results of the LHCf experiment and the forward measurements at the LHC

The Large Hadron Collider is intensively used to test hadronic interaction models used in cosmic-ray physics because its maximum (designed) collision energy √s = 14 TeV corresponds to the interaction of a 1017 eV cosmic-ray proton hitting the atmosphere. In this paper various types of forward experiments at the LHC, where the particles relevant to the air shower development are observed, are reviewed. Recent results of a dedicated experiment for precise forward measurement, the LHC forward, are discussed in detail. A future possibility at the LHC, light ion collisions, is also discussed.

<dc:title xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xml:lang="fr"/> <dc:hasPart xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">['']</dc:hasPart> <dc:hasVersion xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/"/>

The LHCf experiment: Forward particles production spectra at LHC

The LHC forward (LHCf) experiment consists of two small sampling calorimeters installed in the LHC tunnel at ±140 from IP1, so that it can detect neutral particles produced by p-ion collisions in the very forward region (pseudorapidity η > 8.4). The main aim of LHCf is to provide precise measurements of the particles produced in high-energy p-p and p-Pb collisions in order to tune hadronic interaction models used by ground-based cosmic rays experiments. In this paper we will discuss the present status of the LHCf experiment, the collected data and measurements done, as well as future prospects.

<dc:title xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xml:lang="fr"/> <dc:hasPart xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">['']</dc:hasPart> <dc:hasVersion xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/"/>
