These emphasised that emergency management must not be limited to hurricanes. </p> <p>"This new policy initiative also embodies the collective integrated planning process for all phases of the disaster management cycle, focussing on mitigation and preparedness activities undertaken prior to a hazard impacting the island, and those responses during and after the onset of large-scale emergency or major disaster, so as to minimise loss of life, destruction of property and enhance the effectiveness for recovery," he said. </p> <p> </p> <p>Stakeholders </p> <p> </p> <p>He added this would bring together additional stakeholders such as environmentalists, town planners, engineers, architects, mass communicators, scientists and economists. </p> <p> </p> <p>Critical roles </p> <p> </p> <p>He told the public service officers they were required to play a significant role in implementing critical elements of the National Emergency Management Plan. </p> <p>"I am confident that at the end of the training session you will be better equipped to develop your departmental disaster management plans and standard operating procedures to cope with any eventuality which the country may face. </p> <p>"The Department of Emergency Management will also produce a Guidance Document which will further assist you in mainstreaming disaster management within the Public Service," said Stuart. <b>(WB)</b></p> </span> </body> </html><!-- FILE ARCHIVED ON 08:59:41 Jun 09, 2008 AND RETRIEVED FROM THE INTERNET ARCHIVE ON 17:42:36 Nov 24, 2024.
