Consequently, it is important to note that, all the nearest kith and kin of centenarians of Kurichia tribe (Indian hunter-gatherers) of Kerala State, sucessfully lead their life more than 100 years among whom these tribal are free from specific disease during their life eventhough they look weak and fragile. They have active life and sometimes they are accustomed to walk for a longer distance in their earlier times. But the only draw back noticed is poor visión. At present, the older generations are very much worried about the younger generation wherein translating themselves to the modernization of acculturation which may affect the good health of their community. Atleast one member in a family lived more than 95 years either in three generation which appeared as a heredity of longevity. The ratio of women is more than the men. The centenarians are living alone with out their spouses and no one is under poor economic status. Majority of them had domestic relationships. The findings of the present study revealed the culture and the nature of some parameters were culture-specific determining factors of longevity. As a result, the number of old age people is increasing all over the world. According to UNESCO estimate the number of old people aged above 60+ in the world is likely to go up from 350 million in 1975 to 590 million in 2005. About half of them are in the developing countries. In the advanced countries like Norway, Sweden and Japan the population of the aged above 60 is 20 per cent. However, the percentage of the aged in other advanced countries in the West is in the neighbourhood of 14 Per cent. So far as India is concerned as a result of the change in the age composition of the population over time, there has been a progressive increase in both the number and proportion of aged people. The proportion of the population aged 60 years or more has been increasing consistently over the last century, particularly after 1951. In 1901 the proportion of the population aged 60 or over of India was about 5 percent, which marginally increased to 5.4 percent in 1951, and by 2001 this share was found to have risen to about 7.4 percent. About 75% of persons of age 60 and above reside in rural areas. The Status of the aged not only differ between younger and olds but also from country to county on the socio-cultural background. Venkoba Rao (1979) has indicated that as to how the prevalent cultural conditions are affecting or contributing to the problems of the aged. Ghosal (1962) has observed that the problems of old age tend to be multiple rather than single. Due to the multiple natures being observed in the old age causes different problems. Based on these types of problems vary between tribes and non-tribes. Therefore, when undertaking any research on human ageing one has to specify a proper methodology and methods which are available in the anthropological perspective. The paper is aimed at providing a review of anthropological approaches to the study of ageing. On the basis of the meaning and scope of the concept of ageing, its sources and causal factors are discussed. Further, functional, physiological and morphological indicators of ageing are briefly described. class="ds-related-work--abstract ds2-5-body-sm">Longevity and long-life practices have been a pan-Tibetan concern for a very long time, but have hardly been studied by anthropologists. This book presents ethnographic accounts and textual material demonstrating how Tibetans in the Darjeeling Hills, India, view the life-span and map out certain life-forces in various areas of knowledge. These life-forces follow daily, monthly, and annual cycles. Divinations and astrological calculations are widely but varyingly used by Tibetans to assess the strength of life-forces and forecast difficult periods in their lives. Loss, exhaustion, or periodic weaknesses of life-forces are treated medically or through Tibetan Buddhist practices and rituals.
