The study focused on alternative, cost-effective and non-pharmacological techniques in relieving pain experienced by the older people with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Methods: Using purposive non-probability sampling, the researchers gathered a total number of 40 subjects that passed the inclusion criteria provided by the researchers. The subjects were divided into two groups, experimental group (20 subjects) and control groups (20 subjects). The Numeric Rating 11-point Scale (NRS-11) was utilized to assess the pain level of the subject prior the application of the treatment and after the application of the treatment. Key findings: There is a significant difference in the pain levels of the experimental group before and after the application of cold tomato paste. This indicates that that the application of cold tomato paste alleviates the pain experienced by elderly clients with exacerbation of arthritis. Conclusion: The effectiveness of cold tomato paste in relieving pain experienced by elderly clients who are in exacerbation of arthritis was proven to be evidence-based. The cold tomato paste application has significant impact in the field of nursing and therefore, can be used in both clinical trials and practices. The effectiveness of cold tomato application promotes innovation in the field of nursing, thus encouraging further researches regarding other uses of tomato and other herbal interventions to relieve the pain caused by osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=alternative%20therapy" title="alternative therapy">alternative therapy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=arthritis" title=" arthritis"> arthritis</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cold%20tomato%20paste" title=" cold tomato paste"> cold tomato paste</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=elderly%20clients" title=" elderly clients"> elderly clients</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=exacerbation" title=" exacerbation "> exacerbation </a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/23838/cold-tomato-paste-as-an-alternative-therapy-for-elderly-clients-with-exacerbation-of-arthritis" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/23838.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">423</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">10</span> Excision and Reconstruction of a Hypertrophic and Functional Bleb with Bovine Pericardium (Tutopatch®) and Amniotic Membrane: A Case Report</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Blanca%20Fatela%20Cantillo">Blanca Fatela Cantillo</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Silvia%20Iglesias%20Cerrato"> Silvia Iglesias Cerrato</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Guadalupe%20Garrido%20Ceca"> Guadalupe Garrido Ceca</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Purpose: Bleb dysfunction is a late complication following glaucoma filtration surgery. We describe our surgical technique for excision and reconstruction of a hypertrophic bleb complication using bovine pericardium patch graft (Tutopatch®) and amniotic membrane. Material and methods: The case report presents a hypertrophic bleb over the cornea with good intraocular pressure control. The hanging bleb without leak caused dysesthesia and high irregular astigmatism. Bleb reconstruction involved the excision of corneal fibrous material and avascular conjunctiva, preserving the original scleral and tennon. Bovine pericardium patch graft (Tutopatch®) was sited over these with fixed sutures, reinforcing the underlying scleral, and the conjunctiva advanced. The superior epithelium corneal defect was covered using an amniotic membrane. Conclusion: Repair of bleb dysfunction with varied techniques has been reported, including conjunctival advancement, use of scleral patch graft, dural patch graft, or pericardium. Additional use of amniotic membrane promotes epithelialization and exhibits anti-fibrotic and anti-inflammatory features. Reconstruction with bovine pericardium patch graft and amniotic membrane resulted in pain relief, visual rehabilitation, and good aesthetic results, with preservation of bleb function. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=reconstruction" title="reconstruction">reconstruction</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=hypertrophic%20bleb" title=" hypertrophic bleb"> hypertrophic bleb</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bovine%20pericardium" title=" bovine pericardium"> bovine pericardium</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=amniotic%20membrane" title=" amniotic membrane"> amniotic membrane</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=dysesthesia%20of%20the%20bleb" title=" dysesthesia of the bleb"> dysesthesia of the bleb</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/159497/excision-and-reconstruction-of-a-hypertrophic-and-functional-bleb-with-bovine-pericardium-tutopatch-and-amniotic-membrane-a-case-report" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/159497.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">77</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">9</span> To Be Freed from Conformists for Better Shared Leadership</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lyne%20Chantal%20Boudreau">Lyne Chantal Boudreau</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Claudine%20Auger"> Claudine Auger</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arline%20Laforest"> Arline Laforest</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> In order to meet the challenges of learning in a minority Francophone environment, three organizers created a space where a group of stakeholders from the school system and from the post-secondary and community sectors could contribute to reflections on specific educational topics by sharing winning practices. Understanding corruption’s linkages to gender equality issues and how it impacts women’s empowerment is part of the broader process of advancing women’s rights and understanding the gender dimensions of democratic governance. Taking a long view of political (corruption index) and the social (women empowerment) dimension — a view from 2015 to 2030, a context based forecast was conducted to forecast the ASEAN corruption index in the next 15 years, answering the question: “Does women political involvement decrease corruption rate index of ASEAN countries in the next 15 years?” The study have established that there will be an increase women political involvement in the ASEAN countries in the next 15 years that will cause a drop on corruption rate index. There will be a significant decline on corruption rate index in 2030. This change entails reform not only in the political aspect of progress, but to the social aspect as well. Finally, the political aspect is increasing at a constant rate however a double or triple increase of the social aspect is seen to be the key solution for corruption. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=women" title="women">women</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=women%20political%20involvement" title=" women political involvement"> women political involvement</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=corruption" title=" corruption"> corruption</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=gender%20equity%20index" title=" gender equity index"> gender equity index</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=economic%20participation" title=" economic participation"> economic participation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=educational%20attainment" title=" educational attainment"> educational attainment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=political%20empowerment" title=" political empowerment"> political empowerment</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=control%20of%20corruption" title=" control of corruption"> control of corruption</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=regulatory%20quality" title=" regulatory quality"> regulatory quality</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=rule%20of%20law" title=" rule of law"> rule of law</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=voice%20and%20accountability%20government%20effectiveness" title=" voice and accountability government effectiveness"> voice and accountability government effectiveness</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=political%20stability%20and%20corruption%20perception%20index" title=" political stability and corruption perception index"> political stability and corruption perception index</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/29740/does-women-involvement-in-politics-decrease-corruption-a-context-based-approach-to-the-corruption-rate-index-of-asean-countries" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/29740.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">422</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">7</span> The Effects of Pride Therapy on the Level of Self-Esteem among Physically Challenged Adolescents</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Canapi%20Patricia%20Joy">Canapi Patricia Joy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Canlas%20Tracy%20Gabriella"> Canlas Tracy Gabriella</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Canseco%20Teresa"> Canseco Teresa</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Capistrano%20Reena%20Marie"> Capistrano Reena Marie</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Carandang%20Vernon"> Carandang Vernon</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Carbonel%20Khiara%20Claudine"> Carbonel Khiara Claudine </a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Research problem: The main problem of the study was to determine the effect of Projecting the Reflection of the Individual’s Self-esteem (PRIDE) therapy on the level of self-esteem of physically challenged adolescents. Methodology: A quasi-experimental study was used which involved 30 randomly-assigned subjects, 15 in the experimental group and 15 in the control group. The Projecting the reflection of the Individuals’ Self-Esteem (PRDIE) therapy was administered to the experimental group. The researchers utilized the Sorensen Self-Esteem test tool as a pretest and posttest questionnaire and yielded a Cronbach’s alpha of .912. Paired T-test was used to analyze the gathered data. Results: The results showed that after the administration of PRIDE therapy, there was an increase on the level of self-esteem. The experimental group had a value of 3.590, which was significant and meant that the level of self-esteem is significantly increased. On the other hand, the control group, had a value of -2.207 which was also significant, therefore, the level of self esteem significantly decreased. Conclusion: the PRIDE Therapy is effective in increasing the level of self-esteem among physically challenged adolescent. Recommendations: The researchers recommend the use of PRIDE Therapy as an intervention in handling physically challenged patients, especially adolescents, in order to enhance their self-esteem. Also, the researchers recommend that nursing students be informed on the efficacy of PRIDE Therapy in enhancing the self-esteem of physically challenged patients. Furthermore, the inclusion of a psychologist during the implementation of PRIDE Therapy, specifically art therapy, to be able to have a more focused interpretation of the drawings and really be able to see the projection of their self-esteem is also recommended. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=adolescents" title="adolescents">adolescents</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=PRIDE%20therapy" title=" PRIDE therapy"> PRIDE therapy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=physically%20challenged" title=" physically challenged"> physically challenged</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=self-esteem" title=" self-esteem"> self-esteem</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/23232/the-effects-of-pride-therapy-on-the-level-of-self-esteem-among-physically-challenged-adolescents" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/23232.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">310</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">6</span> The Relevance of Shared Cultural Leadership in the Survival of the Language and of the Francophone Culture in a Minority Language Environment</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Lyne%20Chantal%20Boudreau">Lyne Chantal Boudreau</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Claudine%20Auger"> Claudine Auger</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Arline%20Laforest"> Arline Laforest</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> As an English-speaking country, Canada faces challenges in French-language education. During both editions of a provincial congress on education planned and conducted under shared cultural leadership, three organizers created a Francophone space where, for the first time in the province of New Brunswick (the only officially bilingual province in Canada), a group of stakeholders from the school, post-secondary and community sectors have succeeded in contributing to reflections on specific topics by sharing winning practices to meet the challenges of learning in a minority Francophone environment. Shared cultural leadership is a hybrid between theories of leadership styles in minority communities and theories of shared leadership. Through shared cultural leadership, the goal is simply to guide leadership and to set up all minority leaderships in minority context through shared leadership. This leadership style requires leaders to transition from a hierarchical to a horizontal approach, that is, to an approach where each individual is at the same level. In this exploratory research, it has been demonstrated that shared leadership exercised under the T-learning model best fosters the mobilization of all partners in advancing in-depth knowledge in a particular field while simultaneously allowing learning of the elements related to the domain in question. This session will present how it is possible to mobilize the whole community through leaders who continually develop their knowledge and skills in their specific field but also in related fields. Leaders in this style of management associated to shared cultural leadership acquire the ability to consider solutions to problems from a holistic perspective and to develop a collective power derived from the leadership of each and everyone in a space where all are rallied to promote the ultimate advancement of society. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=education" title="education">education</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=minority%20context" title=" minority context"> minority context</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=shared%20leadership" title=" shared leadership"> shared leadership</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=t-leaning" title=" t-leaning"> t-leaning</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/85301/the-relevance-of-shared-cultural-leadership-in-the-survival-of-the-language-and-of-the-francophone-culture-in-a-minority-language-environment" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/85301.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">247</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">5</span> The Effect of Projecting the Reflection of the Individual&#039;s Self-Esteem (PRIDE) Therapy on the Level of Self-Esteem of Physically Challenged Adolescents </h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Khiara%20Claudine%20C.%20Carbonel">Khiara Claudine C. The researchers utilized the Sorensen Self-Esteem test tool as a pretest and posttest questionnaire and yielded a Cronbach’s alpha of .912. Paired T-test was used to analyze the gathered data. Results: The results showed that after the administration of PRIDE therapy, there was an increase on the level of self-esteem. The experimental group had a value of 3.590, which was significant and meant that the level of self-esteem is significantly increased. On the other hand, the control group, had a value of -2.207 which was also significant, therefore, the level of self esteem significantly decreased. Conclusion: the PRIDE Therapy is effective in increasing the level of self-esteem among physically challenged adolescent. Recommendations: The researchers recommend the use of PRIDE Therapy as an intervention in handling physically challenged patients, especially adolescents, in order to enhance their self-esteem. Also, the researchers recommend that nursing students be informed on the efficacy of PRIDE Therapy in enhancing the self-esteem of physically challenged patients. Furthermore, the inclusion of a psychologist during the implementation of PRIDE Therapy, specifically art therapy, to be able to have a more focused interpretation of the drawings and really be able to see the projection of their self-esteem is also recommended. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=PRIDE%20therapy" title="PRIDE therapy">PRIDE therapy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=physically%20challenged%20adolescents" title=" physically challenged adolescents"> physically challenged adolescents</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=self-esteem" title=" self-esteem"> self-esteem</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=art%20therapy" title=" art therapy"> art therapy</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/23231/the-effect-of-projecting-the-reflection-of-the-individuals-self-esteem-pride-therapy-on-the-level-of-self-esteem-of-physically-challenged-adolescents" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/23231.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">424</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">4</span> Performance Evaluation and Kinetics of Artocarpus heterophyllus Seed for the Purification of Paint Industrial Wastewater by Coagulation-Flocculation Process</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ifeoma%20Maryjane%20Iloamaeke">Ifeoma Maryjane Iloamaeke</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Kelvin%20Obazie"> Kelvin Obazie</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mmesoma%20Offornze"> Mmesoma Offornze</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Chiamaka%20Marysilvia%20Ifeaghalu"> Chiamaka Marysilvia Ifeaghalu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Cecilia%20Aduaka"> Cecilia Aduaka</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ugomma%20Chibuzo%20Onyeije"> Ugomma Chibuzo Onyeije</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Claudine%20Ifunanaya%20Ogu"> Claudine Ifunanaya Ogu</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ngozi%20Anastesia%20Okonkwo"> Ngozi Anastesia Okonkwo</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> This work investigated the effects of pH, settling time, and coagulant dosages on the removal of color, turbidity, and heavy metals from paint industrial wastewater using the seed of Artocarpus heterophyllus (AH) by the coagulation-flocculation process. The paint effluent was physicochemically characterized, while AH coagulant was instrumentally characterized by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). A Jar test experiment was used for the coagulation-flocculation process. The result showed that paint effluent was polluted with color, turbidity (36000 NTU), mercury (1.392 mg/L), lead (0.252 mg/L), arsenic (1.236 mg/L), TSS (63.40mg/L), and COD (121.70 mg/L). The maximum color removal efficiency was 94.33% at the dosage of 0.2 g/L, pH 2 at a constant time of 50 mins, and 74.67% at constant pH 2, coagulant dosage of 0.2 g/L and 50 mins. The highest turbidity removal efficiency was 99.94% at 0.2 g/L and 50 mins at constant pH 2 and 96.66% at pH 2 and 0.2 g/L at constant time of 50 mins. The mercury removal efficiency of 99.29% was achieved at the optimal condition of 0.8 g/L coagulant dosage, pH 8, and constant time of 50 mins and 99.57% at coagulant dosage of 0.8 g/L, time of 50 mins constant pH 8. The highest lead removal efficiency was 99.76% at a coagulant dosage of 10 g/L, time of 40 mins at constant pH 10, and 96.53% at pH 10, coagulant dosage of 10 g/L and constant time of 40 mins. For arsenic, the removal efficiency is 75.24 % at 0.8 g/L coagulant dosage, time of 40 mins, and constant pH of 8. XRD imaging before treatment showed that Artocarpus heterophyllus coagulant was crystalline and changed to amorphous after treatment. The SEM and FTIR results of the AH coagulant and sludge suggested there were changes in the surface morphology and functional groups before and after treatment. The reaction kinetics were modeled best in the second order. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Artocarpus%20heterophyllus" title="Artocarpus heterophyllus">Artocarpus heterophyllus</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=coagulation-flocculation" title=" coagulation-flocculation"> coagulation-flocculation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=coagulant%20dosages" title=" coagulant dosages"> coagulant dosages</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=setting%20time" title=" setting time"> setting time</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=paint%20effluent" title=" paint effluent"> paint effluent</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/156420/performance-evaluation-and-kinetics-of-artocarpus-heterophyllus-seed-for-the-purification-of-paint-industrial-wastewater-by-coagulation-flocculation-process" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/156420.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">95</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">3</span> Biomolecules Based Microarray for Screening Human Endothelial Cells Behavior</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Adel%20Dalilottojari">Adel Dalilottojari</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bahman%20Delalat"> Bahman Delalat</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Frances%20J.%20Harding"> Frances J. Current strategies for the production of clinical-grade EPCs requires the <em>in vitro</em> isolation of EPCs from peripheral blood followed by cell expansion to provide sufficient quantities EPCs for cell therapy. This study aims to examine the use of different biomolecules to significantly improve the current strategy of EPC capture and expansion on collagen type I (Col I). In this study, four different biomolecules were immobilised on a surface and then investigated for their capacity to support EPC capture and proliferation. First, a cell microarray platform was fabricated by coating a glass surface with epoxy functional allyl glycidyl ether plasma polymer (AGEpp) to mediate biomolecule binding. The four candidate biomolecules tested were Col I, collagen type II (Col II), collagen type IV (Col IV) and vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A), which were arrayed on the epoxy-functionalised surface using a non-contact printer. The surrounding area between the printed biomolecules was passivated with polyethylene glycol-bisamine (A-PEG) to prevent non-specific cell attachment. EPCs were seeded onto the microarray platform and cell numbers quantified after 1 h (to determine capture) and 72 h (to determine proliferation). All of the extracellular matrix (ECM) biomolecules printed demonstrated an ability to capture EPCs within 1 h of cell seeding with Col II exhibiting the highest level of attachment when compared to the other biomolecules. Interestingly, Col IV exhibited the highest increase in EPC expansion after 72 h when compared to Col I, Col II and VEGF-A. These results provide information for significant improvement in the capture and expansion of human EPC for further application. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=biomolecules" title="biomolecules">biomolecules</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cell%20microarray%20platform" title=" cell microarray platform"> cell microarray platform</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=cell%20therapy" title=" cell therapy"> cell therapy</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=endothelial%20progenitor%20cells" title=" endothelial progenitor cells"> endothelial progenitor cells</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=high%20throughput%20screening" title=" high throughput screening"> high throughput screening</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/58645/biomolecules-based-microarray-for-screening-human-endothelial-cells-behavior" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/58645.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">291</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">2</span> Habitat Suitability, Genetic Diversity and Population Structure of Two Sympatric Fruit Bat Species Reveal the Need of an Urgent Conservation Action</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Mohamed%20Thani%20Ibouroi">Mohamed Thani Ibouroi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Ali%20Cheha"> Ali Cheha</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Claudine%20Montgelard"> Claudine Montgelard</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Veronique%20Arnal"> Veronique Arnal</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Dawiyat%20Massoudi"> Dawiyat Massoudi</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Guillelme%20Astruc"> Guillelme Astruc</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Said%20Ali%20Ousseni%20Dhurham"> Said Ali Ousseni Dhurham</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Aurelien%20Besnard"> Aurelien Besnard</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> The Livingstone's flying fox (Pteropus livingstonii) and the Comorian fruit bat (P.seychellensis comorensis) are two endemic fruit bat species among the mostly threatened animals of the Comoros archipelagos. Despite their role as important ecosystem service providers like all flying fox species as pollinators and seed dispersers, little is known about their ecologies, population genetics and structures making difficult the development of evidence-based conservation strategies. In this study, we assess spatial distribution and ecological niche of both species using Species Distribution Modeling (SDM) based on the recent Ensemble of Small Models (ESMs) approach using presence-only data. Population structure and genetic diversity of the two species were assessed using both mitochondrial and microsatellite markers based on non-invasive genetic samples. Our ESMs highlight a clear niche partitioning of the two sympatric species. Livingstone’s flying fox has a very limited distribution, restricted on steep slope of natural forests at high elevation. On the contrary, the Comorian fruit bat has a relatively large geographic range spread over low elevations in farmlands and villages. Our genetic analysis shows a low genetic diversity for both fruit bats species. They also show that the Livingstone’s flying fox population of the two islands were genetically isolated while no evidence of genetic differentiation was detected for the Comorian fruit bats between islands. Our results support the idea that natural habitat loss, especially the natural forest loss and fragmentation are the important factors impacting the distribution of the Livingstone’s flying fox by limiting its foraging area and reducing its potential roosting sites. On the contrary, the Comorian fruit bats seem to be favored by human activities probably because its diets are less specialized. By this study, we concluded that the Livingstone’s flying fox species and its habitat are of high priority in term of conservation at the Comoros archipelagos scale. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Comoros%20islands" title="Comoros islands">Comoros islands</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=ecological%20niche" title=" ecological niche"> ecological niche</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=habitat%20loss" title=" habitat loss"> habitat loss</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=population%20genetics" title=" population genetics"> population genetics</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=fruit%20bats" title=" fruit bats"> fruit bats</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=conservation%20biology" title=" conservation biology"> conservation biology</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/62161/habitat-suitability-genetic-diversity-and-population-structure-of-two-sympatric-fruit-bat-species-reveal-the-need-of-an-urgent-conservation-action" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/62161.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">266</span> </span> </div> </div> <div class="card paper-listing mb-3 mt-3"> <h5 class="card-header" style="font-size:.9rem"><span class="badge badge-info">1</span> Development and Compositional Analysis of Functional Bread and Biscuit from Soybean, Peas and Rice Flour</h5> <div class="card-body"> <p class="card-text"><strong>Authors:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Jean%20Paul%20Hategekimana">Jean Paul Hategekimana</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Bampire%20Claudine"> Bampire Claudine</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Niyonsenga%20Nadia"> Niyonsenga Nadia</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=Irakoze%20Josiane"> Irakoze Josiane</a> </p> <p class="card-text"><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> Peas, soybeans and rice are crops which are grown in Rwanda and are available in rural and urban local markets and they give contribution in reduction of health problems especially in fighting malnutrition and food insecurity in Rwanda. Several research activities have been conducted on how cereals flour can be mixed with legumes flour for developing baked products which are rich in protein, fiber, minerals as they are found in legumes. However, such activity was not yet well studied in Rwanda. The aim of the present study was to develop bread and biscuit products from peas, soybeans and rice as functional ingredients combined with wheat flour and then analyze the nutritional content and consumer acceptability of new developed products. The malnutrition problem can be reduced by producing bread and biscuits which are rich in protein and are very accessible for every individual. The processing of bread and biscuit were made by taking peas flour, soybeans flour and rice flour mixed with wheat flour and other ingredients then a dough was made followed by baking. For bread, two kind of products were processed, for each product one control and three experimental samples in different three ratios of peas and rice were prepared. These ratios were 95:5, 90:10 and 80:20 for bread from peas and 85:5:10, 80:10:10 and 70:10:20 for bread from peas and rice. For biscuit, two kind of products were also processed, for each product one control sample and three experimental samples in three different ratios were prepared. These ratios are 90:5:5,80:10:10 and 70:10:20 for biscuit from peas and rice and 90:5:5,80:10:10 and 70:10:20 for biscuit from soybean and rice. All samples including the control sample were analyzed for the consumer acceptability (sensory attributes) and nutritional composition. For sensory analysis, bread from of peas and rice flour with wheat flour at ratio 85:5:10 and bread from peas only as functional ingredient with wheat flour at ratio 95:5 and biscuits made from a of soybeans and rice at a ratio 90:5:5 and biscuit made from peas and rice at ratio 90:5:5 were most acceptable compared to control sample and other samples in different ratio. The moisture, protein, fat, fiber and minerals (Sodium and iron.) content were analyzed where bread from peas in all ratios was found to be rich in protein and fiber compare to control sample and biscuit from soybean and rice in all ratios was found to be rich in protein and fiber compare to control sample. <p class="card-text"><strong>Keywords:</strong> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=bakery%20products" title="bakery products">bakery products</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=peas%20and%20rice%20flour" title=" peas and rice flour"> peas and rice flour</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=wheat%20flour" title=" wheat flour"> wheat flour</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=sensory%20evaluation" title=" sensory evaluation"> sensory evaluation</a>, <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/search?q=proximate%20composition" title=" proximate composition"> proximate composition</a> </p> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/184609/development-and-compositional-analysis-of-functional-bread-and-biscuit-from-soybean-peas-and-rice-flour" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">Procedia</a> <a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts/184609.pdf" target="_blank" class="btn btn-primary btn-sm">PDF</a> <span class="bg-info text-light px-1 py-1 float-right rounded"> Downloads <span class="badge badge-light">64</span> </span> </div> </div> </div> </main> <footer> <div id="infolinks" class="pt-3 pb-2"> <div class="container"> <div style="background-color:#f5f5f5;" class="p-3"> <div class="row"> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> About <li><a href="https://waset.org/page/support">About Us</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/page/support#legal-information">Legal</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/WASET-16th-foundational-anniversary.pdf">WASET celebrates its 16th foundational anniversary</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Account <li><a href="https://waset.org/profile">My Account</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Explore <li><a href="https://waset.org/disciplines">Disciplines</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/conferences">Conferences</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/conference-programs">Conference Program</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/committees">Committees</a></li> <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org">Publications</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Research <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org/abstracts">Abstracts</a></li> <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org">Periodicals</a></li> <li><a href="https://publications.waset.org/archive">Archive</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Open Science <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Open-Science-Philosophy.pdf">Open Science Philosophy</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Open-Science-Award.pdf">Open Science Award</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Open-Society-Open-Science-and-Open-Innovation.pdf">Open Innovation</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Postdoctoral-Fellowship-Award.pdf">Postdoctoral Fellowship Award</a></li> <li><a target="_blank" rel="nofollow" href="https://publications.waset.org/static/files/Scholarly-Research-Review.pdf">Scholarly Research Review</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="col-md-2"> <ul class="list-unstyled"> Support <li><a href="https://waset.org/page/support">Support</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/profile/messages/create">Contact Us</a></li> <li><a href="https://waset.org/profile/messages/create">Report Abuse</a></li> </ul> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div class="container text-center"> <hr style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:.3rem;"> <a href="https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/" target="_blank" class="text-muted small">Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License</a> <div id="copy" class="mt-2">&copy;
