<A name="3"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/7-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span>And Jehovah thy God gave them before thee, and thou didst smite them: exterminating, thou shalt exterminate them; thou shalt not make to them a covenant and thou shalt not show them mercy. <A name="4"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/7-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>Thou shall not marry with them; thy daughters thou shalt not give to his son, and his daughter thou shalt not take to thy son. <A name="5"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/7-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>For he will turn away thy son from after me and they served other gods: and the anger of Jehovah kindled against you and he destroyed thee suddenly. <A name="6"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/7-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>But thus shall ye do to them; their altars ye shall destroy, and their pillars ye shall break in pieces, and their statues ye shall cut down, and their carved things ye shall burn in are. <A name="7"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/7-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>For thou a holy people to Jehovah thy God: in thee Jehovah thy God chose to be to him a people of property from all the peoples which are upon the face of the earth.<p> <A name="8"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/7-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>Not for your multitude did Jehovah delight in you above all the peoples, and will he choose you, for ye were few more than all the peoples. <A name="9"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/7-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>For Jehovah loves you and watches the oath which he sware to your fathers: Jehovah brought you out by a strong hand, and he will redeem thee from the house of servants, from the house of Pharaoh king of Egypt. <A name="10"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/7-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And know thou that Jehovah thy God, he is God, the faithful God, watching the covenant and the kindness to those loving him, and to those watching his commands to the thousandth generation: <A name="11"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/7-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>And recompensing to those hating him to their face to destroy him: he will not delay to him hating him to his face; he will recompense to him. <A name="12"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/7-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>And watch thou the commands and the laws and the judgments which I command thee this day, to do them.<p> <A name="13"></a><p class="hdg">The Promises of God<br /><span class="cross">(<a href ="../exodus/23.htm#20">Exodus 23:20–33</a>)</span><p><span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/7-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>And it was because ye shall hear these judgments, and watch them and do them, and Jehovah thy God watched to thee the covenant and the mercy which he sware to thy fathers: <A name="14"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/7-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>And he loved thee and blessed thee, and multiplied thee: and he blest the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy land, thy grain and thy new wine and thy new oil, and the young of thy cows and thy flocks of sheep, upon the land which he sware to thy fathers to give to thee. <A name="15"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/7-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Thou shalt be blessed above all peoples: there shall not be in thee barren male and female, and in thy cattle. <A name="16"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/7-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>And Jehovah turned away from thee all sickness; and all the evil diseases of Egypt which thou knewest, he will not put upon thee: and he will give them upon all hating thee. <A name="17"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/7-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>And thou didst consume all the peoples which Jehovah thy God gave to thee; thine eye shall not have pity upon them, and thou shalt not serve their gods, for it is a snare to thee.<p> <A name="18"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/7-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>When thou shalt say in thy heart, The nations many more than I, how shall I be able to dispossess them? <A name="19"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/7-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>Thou shalt not be afraid of them: remembering; thou shalt remember what Jehovah thy God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt. <A name="20"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/7-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>The great trials which thine eyes saw, and the signs and the wonders; and the strong hand and the extended arm by which Jehovah thy God brought thee out: so shall Jehovah thy God do to all people of whose face thou art afraid. <A name="21"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/7-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>And also the hornet, Jehovah thy God will send among you till the destroying of those being left and of those hiding from thy face. <A name="22"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/7-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>Thou shalt not be terrified from their faces, for Jehovah thy God is in the midst of thee, a great and fearful God. <A name="23"></a><span class="reftext"><a href="/deuteronomy/7-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>And Jehovah thy God cast out these nations from thy face, little, little;
