Unfortunately, I'm stuck in Realm of Knightmare... even after looking through the events, I don't know what to do next.<br> Here are my thoughts on what I've played so far:<br> <br> 1. BfW 1.12.6<br> 2. normal<br> 3. 8-ish I guess. Seemed right for "normal" difficulty, anyway<br> 4. All very clear, except Realm of Knightmare of course<br> 5. There were a few unpleasant surprises, but I'll mention them below<br> 6. Very clear, generally well written<br> 7. Pretty fun, it's a good campaign<br> 8. See below<br> 9. Sometimes it seems like people's motivations don't get explained. Why is Aloune so quick to leave her home and join your team? Xavien also doesn't explain himself much, he just mentions that he owes you and will "join you," which just sounds plastic and unrealistic. <br> 10 The only thing that stuck out to me was verb-tense in the stories. If it's a journal, does that mean the heroes were writing them as the story happens, or did they record everything afterwards? It seems to float back and forth between past-tense and present-tense.<br> 11 First, I love the yellow team color. Second, I love the way changes in music punctuate unexpected events, like running into a new enemy in "Across the Dark Hills." I wish that there was more than one song at a time though; hearing the same one over loop two or three times before some event triggers a new one gets old.<br> Also, some of the custom units seem too strong. The Elvish Horse Archer is the worst; with a 7-5 marksman bow, he's as powerful as an Elvish Marksman, plus far more HP and a much better melee attack. That alone would make him really tough, but he's barely slower than an Elvish Rider, and is a skirmisher too?? If you ask me, there's a serious nerf needed.<br> On the same note, I'm not sure why the mercenaries couldn't just use the normal bandit units; the new ones are much stronger, but cost the same. Also, some of the animations seem to be missing sound effects.<br> <div style="margin:20px;margin-top:5px"><div class="quotetitle" style="vertical-align:middle;display:inline-block"><strong>About individual scenarios (spoilers):</strong> <input class="button1" style="font-size:0.8em" type="button" value="Show" onclick="if (this.parentNode.parentNode.getElementsByTagName('div')[1].style.display != '') { this.parentNode.parentNode.getElementsByTagName('div')[1].style.display = ''; this.value = 'Hide'; this.innerText = ''; } else { this.parentNode.parentNode.getElementsByTagName('div')[1].style.display = 'none'; this.value = 'Show'; this.innerText = ''; }"></div><div class="quotecontent" style="display:none">1: Incursion on the Western Glades<br> This was overall a good scenario. Good introduction to the story & timeline placement, good gameplay.<br> <br> 2: The Search for the Ochgma<br> Fighting enemies that were so superior on hills was annoying. Because of shroud, they could run up and attack before I knew they existed, especially since there were guardians all over. Maybe you did that on purpose, but if not, you should change something. I lost valuable units and had to save-load a few times, which was a little frustrating. <br> <br> 3: Negotiations<br> This is just my opinion, but the characters seemed just a bit one-dimensional. They just all agreed so easily. It makes you wonder why they ever fought in the first place. Maybe adding a little friction would improve it.. say, the dwarves refuse to teach outsiders about runecraft? I don't know, it's just an idea.<br> <br> 4: An Attack from the North<br> This scenario seemed really easy at first, so when I had the option to let the orcs retreat or chase them down, I immediately decided to chase them. It sounded like it would just be free experience for my soldiers. But then the enemies suddenly got a gold boost, and I actually had a hard time keeping valuable units alive, which doesn't seem right. I'd recommend giving them more gold at the start, so it's actually challenging to survive to turn 8, and give the little or no extra after that.<br> Also, it was hard to tell what was going on when the nightblade attacked Uvollyn. I didn't see the nightblade at first, and there were no animations to point him out, just sound effects. You could use <code class="inline-code">animate=yes</code> when creating the nightblade to make him fade in, and then use <code class="inline-code">[animate_unit]</code> to show him attacking Uvollyn.<br> <br> 5: Across the Dark Hills<br> The story says they headed east, but the map shows them moving west (which i suppose is right, since Soradoc is to the west)<br> When you run into Xavien, the orcs are close enough to them that, in the thick hills, it's impossible for the mercenaries to escape. I triggered the event with just a scout, while most of my troops were still far away, so it was quite impossible to keep the mercenaries alive. In fact, to win the fight safely, I had to basically line up my troops just outside of the range that fired the event so they could all move in at once. In contrast, the undead's appearance was great; since they had to cross a bit of swamp, I had plenty of time to get ready. (It was weird that they started talking before I could see them though; you probably should remove some shroud)<br> <br> 6: The Courtyard<br> This scenario was great, just a short, sweet battle. Maybe could be a little harder, require another kill or two?<br> <br> 7: Struggle for Freedom<br> This was a great scenario; i love how there were different paths to explore. The time limit was a little strict, though that's not a bad thing. One complaint is the holy water; normally, holy water has a temporary effect, and the dialogue gives you the option to not pick it up, so I moved onto it to get a good angle attacking a souless. Since it's actually an automatic, permanent effect, I had to load to give it to a better choice unit.<br> <br> 8b: Realm of Knightmare<br> Well, you know, I'm stuck, and it was getting really interesting too. Looks like I'm supposed to be able to get into the Halls of Death, but the gates aren't destroyable like the ones int Struggle for Freedom, and I can't find any fake walls or anything.<br> EDIT: Oh, also, my save files got corrupted sometime during this scenario. More variety in music in each scenario would be good.
