Von den 350 eingereichten Beiträgen sind 50 Studierende zu „Distinguished Winners“ ernannt worden, deren App Playgrounds sich durch Innovation, Kreativität, sozialen Einfluss oder Inklusivität auszeichnen. Diese 50 Studierende sind zu einem dreitägigen Aufenthalt im Apple Park eingeladen, der ein maßgeschneidertes Programm und eine Special Event auf der diesjährigen Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) umfasst, wo sie sich mit gleichgesinnten Entwickler:innen aus der ganzen Welt treffen werden. </p> <p>„Die diesjährigen Gewinner:innen der Swift Student Challenge zeigen einmal mehr, was alles möglich ist, wenn talentierte junge Menschen mit Hilfe von Programmieren der Welt ihren Stempel aufdrücken“, sagt Susan Prescott, Vice President of Worldwide Developer Relations bei Apple. „Wir freuen uns sehr, noch mehr herausragende studentische Entwickler:innen als je zuvor im Apple Park begrüßen zu dürfen, um sich mit unseren Teams und untereinander auszutauschen, während sie Apps entwickeln, die unsere Zukunft zweifellos zum Besseren verändern werden.“</p> <p>Die diesjährigen Gewinner:innen kommen aus der ganzen Welt und repräsentieren mehr als 35 Länder und Regionen. Viele ihrer App Playgrounds sind durch persönliche Erfahrungen angeregt worden, wie beispielsweise Menschen in ihrer Community zu helfen oder ein Lieblingshobby. Die Distinguished Winners Elena Galluzzo, Dezmond Blair und Jawaher Shaman haben sich zusätzlich durch ihre Familien inspirieren lassen - und hoffen, dass ihre Apps eines Tages auch für andere von Nutzen sein können. </p> <p>Die 22-jährige Elena Galluzzo verbringt ihre Zeit in Waterloo, Ontario, wo sie ihr Studium an der Wilfrid Laurier University abschließt, und ihrem Elternhaus in einem Vorort von Toronto. Dieses Haus teilt sie mit ihren Eltern, ihrer Schwester und ihren Großeltern mütterlicherseits, die sie zu ihrer preisgekrönten App Care Capsule inspiriert haben. </p> <p>„Meine Großmutter hat Alzheimer im fortgeschrittenen Stadium und benötigt Vollzeitpflege“, sagt Galluzzo. „Und auch für meinen Großvater ist es schwer, denn er kann sehr einsam sein — obwohl er mit seinen Kindern und Enkeln zusammenlebt, was viele ältere Menschen nicht tun. Sie hat Apples Framework für maschinelles Lernen Create ML genutzt, um einen Chatbot zu entwickeln, der die Interaktionen mit den Anwender:innen analysiert, um festzustellen, ob dieser unter Einsamkeit oder Depression leidet.
