And he said<MH559> to the woman<MH802>, “Has God<MH430> really<MH637, 3588> said<MH559>, ‘You shall not eat<MH398> from any<MH3605> tree<MH6086> of the garden<MH1588>’?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/3-2.htm"><b>2</b></a></span>The woman<MH802> said<MH559> to the serpent<MH5175>, “From the fruit<MH6529> of the trees<MH6086> of the garden<MH1588> we may eat<MH398>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/3-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>but from the fruit<MH6529> of the tree<MH6086> which<MH834> is in the middle<MH8432> of the garden<MH1588>, God<MH430> has said<MH559>, ‘You shall not eat<MH398> from it or touch<MH5060> it, or you will die<MH4191>.’” <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/3-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>The serpent<MH5175> said<MH559> to the woman<MH802>, “You certainly<MH4191> will not die<MH4191>! <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/3-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>For God<MH430> knows<MH3045> that on the day<MH3117> you eat<MH398> from it your eyes<MH5869> will be opened<MH6491b>, and you will <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>become<MH1961> like God<MH430>, knowing<MH3045> good<MH2896b> and evil<MH7451b>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/3-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>When the woman<MH802> saw<MH7200> that the tree<MH6086> was good<MH2896a> for food<MH3978>, and that it was a delight<MH8378> to the eyes<MH5869>, and that the tree<MH6086> was desirable<MH2530> to make<MH7919a> <i>one</i> wise<MH7919a>, she took<MH3947> some<MH4480> of its fruit<MH6529> and ate<MH398>; and she also<MH1571> gave<MH5414> <i>some</i> to her husband<MH376> with her, and he ate<MH398>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/3-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>Then the eyes<MH5869> of both<MH8147> of them were opened<MH6491b>, and they knew<MH3045> that they were naked<MH5903>; and they sewed<MH8609> fig<MH8384> leaves<MH5929> together<MH8609> and made<MH6213a> themselves<MH1992a> waist<MH2290b> coverings<MH2290b>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/3-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>Now they heard<MH8085> the sound<MH6963> of the LORD<MH3068> God<MH430> walking<MH1980> in the garden<MH1588> in the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>cool<MH7307> of the day<MH3117>, and the man<MH120> and his wife<MH802> hid<MH2244> themselves from the presence<MH6440> of the LORD<MH3068> God<MH430> among<MH8432> the trees<MH6086> of the garden<MH1588>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/3-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>Then the LORD<MH3068> God<MH430> called<MH7121> to the man<MH120>, and said<MH559> to him, “Where<MH335> are you?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/3-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>He said<MH559>, “I heard<MH8085> the sound<MH6963> of You in the garden<MH1588>, and I was<MH3372a> afraid<MH3372a> because<MH3588> I was naked<MH5903>; so I hid<MH2244> myself.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/3-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>And He said<MH559>, “Who<MH4310> told<MH5046> you that you were naked<MH5903>? Have you eaten<MH398> from the tree<MH6086> from which<MH834> I commanded<MH6680> you not to eat<MH398>?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/3-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>The man<MH120> said<MH559>, “The woman<MH802> whom<MH834> You gave<MH5414> <i>to be</i> with me, she gave<MH5414> me some<MH4480> of <i>the fruit of</i> the tree<MH6086>, and I ate<MH398>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/3-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>Then the LORD<MH3068> God<MH430> said<MH559> to the woman<MH802>, “What<MH4100> is this<MH2088> <i>that</i> you have done<MH6213a>?” And the woman<MH802> said<MH559>, “The serpent<MH5175> deceived<MH5378> me, and I ate<MH398>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/3-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>Then the LORD<MH3068> God<MH430> said<MH559> to the serpent<MH5175>, <p class="indent1stline">“Because<MH3588> you have done<MH6213a> this<MH2088>, <t><p class="indent1">Cursed<MH779> are you more<MH4480> than<MH4480> all<MH3605> the livestock<MH929>, <t><p class="indent1">And more<MH4480> than<MH4480> any<MH3605> animal<MH2421b> of the field<MH7704>; <t><p class="indent1">On your belly<MH1512> you shall go<MH1980>, <t><p class="indent1">And dust<MH6083> you shall eat<MH398> <t><p class="indent1">All<MH3605> the days<MH3117> of your life<MH2425b>; <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/3-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>And I will <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>make<MH7896> enemies<MH342> <t><p class="indent1">Of you and the woman<MH802>, <t><p class="indent1">And of your <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>offspring<MH2233> and her <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>Descendant<MH2233>; <t><p class="indent1">He shall <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>bruise<MH7779> you on the head<MH7218>, <t><p class="indent1">And you shall bruise<MH7779> Him on the heel<MH6119>.” <A><span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/3-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>To the woman<MH802> He said<MH559>, <p class="indent1stline">“I will greatly<MH7235a> multiply<MH7235a> <t><p class="indent1">Your pain<MH6093> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>in childbirth<MH2032>, <t><p class="indent1">In pain<MH6089a> you shall deliver<MH3205> children<MH1121>; <t><p class="indent1">Yet your desire<MH8669> will be for your husband<MH376>, <t><p class="indent1">And he shall rule<MH4910> over you.” <A><span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/3-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>Then to Adam<MH121> He said<MH559>, “Because<MH3588> you have listened<MH8085> to the voice<MH6963> of your wife<MH802>, and have eaten<MH398> from the tree<MH6086> about which<MH834> I commanded<MH6680> you, saying<MH559>, ‘You shall not eat<MH398> from it’; <t><p class="indent1">Cursed<MH779> is the ground<MH127> because<MH5668> of you; <t><p class="indent1">With <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>hard<MH6093> labor<MH6093> you shall eat<MH398> <i>from</i> it <t><p class="indent1">All<MH3605> the days<MH3117> of your life<MH2425b>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/3-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>“Both thorns<MH6975> and thistles<MH1863> it shall grow<MH6779> for you; <t><p class="indent1">Yet you shall eat<MH398> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>plants<MH6212a> of the field<MH7704>; <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/3-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>By the sweat<MH2188> of your face<MH639> <t><p class="indent1">You shall eat<MH398> bread<MH3899>, <t><p class="indent1">Until<MH5704> you return<MH7725> to the ground<MH127>, <t><p class="indent1">Because<MH3588> from it you were taken<MH3947>; <t><p class="indent1">For you are dust<MH6083>, <t><p class="indent1">And to dust<MH6083> you shall return<MH7725>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/3-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>Now the man<MH120> named<MH7121, 8034> his wife<MH802> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>Eve<MH2332>, because<MH3588> she was the mother<MH517> of all<MH3605> <i>the</i> living<MH2416a>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/3-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>And the LORD<MH3068> God<MH430> made<MH6213a> garments<MH3801> of skin<MH5785> for Adam<MH121> and his wife<MH802>, and clothed<MH3847> them. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/3-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>Then the LORD<MH3068> God<MH430> said<MH559>, “Behold<MH2005>, the man<MH120> has become<MH1961> like one<MH259> of Us, knowing<MH3045> good<MH2896b> and evil<MH7451b>; and now<MH6258>, he might<MH6435> reach<MH7971> out<MH7971> with his hand<MH3027>, and take<MH3947> <i>fruit</i> also<MH1571> from the tree<MH6086> of life<MH2425b>, and eat<MH398>, and live<MH2421a> forever<MH5769>”— <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/3-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>therefore the LORD<MH3068> God<MH430> sent<MH7971> him out<MH7971> of the Garden<MH1588> of Eden<MH5731>, to cultivate<MH5647> the ground<MH127> from which<MH834> he was taken<MH3947>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/genesis/3-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>So He drove<MH1644> the man<MH120> out<MH1644>;
