Postdoctoral Fellowship Call (for STEM subjects only) </strong></a></h4> <p><p>Application Deadline: Wednesday 12<sup>th</sup> March 2025</p> <p>Fellowships are expected to commence between 1<sup>st</sup> September to 30<sup>th</sup> November 2025.</p> <p><br></p> <p>This fellowship provides the opportunity for researchers based outside of Japan to conduct collaborative research activities with leading research groups at Japanese universities and research institutions for visits of between 12 to 24 months.</p> <p>Eligible applicants should be a UK resident and currently based at a UK university or research institution. The applicant needs to have finished their PhD at the time of applying to start their fellowship in Japan or have obtained their PhD on or after 2<sup>nd</sup> April 2019.</p> <p>Eligible research fields must be within the remit of natural sciences, which includes but is not limited to biological research, chemistry, engineering, mathematics and physics.</p> <p></p> <p><br></p> <p>Funds can cover:</p> <p>1. round-trip air ticket</p> <p>2. monthly maintenance allowance of 362,000 yen (approximately £1,900)</p> <p>3. settling-in allowance of 200,000 yen (approximately £1,000)</p> <p>4. overseas travel insurance</p> <p>5. a research grant, “Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research” (Grant-in-Aid for JSPS Research Fellow), is available to cover cooperative research-related expenses. To help achieve these aims, JSPS London has created this scheme to support events organised by members of the JSPS Alumni Association of the UK and RoI or by Japanese Researchers based in the UK or RoI at institutional or departmental level. These events should aim to create high quality collaboration in cutting edge fields or showcase research in areas where Japan and the UK or RoI are world leading, and can be a symposium or smaller scale seminar. The event’s aim is to bring together experts in robotics, machine learning, AI, ethics and religion and who are based in the UK, EU and Japan, to address timely questions and larger debates over the ethical implications of AI and human-robot interactions.
