afterward<MH310> you will be gathered<MH622> to your people<MH5971b>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-3.htm"><b>3</b></a></span>So Moses<MH4872> spoke<MH1696> to the people<MH5971a>, saying<MH559>, “Arm<MH2502b> men<MH376> from among<MH854> you for the war<MH6635>, so that they may <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[a]</a></span>go<MH1961> against<MH5921> Midian<MH4080> to execute<MH5414> the LORD’S<MH3068> vengeance<MH5360> on Midian<MH4080>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>You shall send<MH7971> a thousand<MH505> from each tribe<MH4294> of all<MH3605> the tribes<MH4294> of Israel<MH3478> to the war<MH6635>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>So there were selected<MH4560> from the thousands<MH505> of Israel<MH3478>, a thousand<MH505> from each tribe<MH4294>, twelve<MH8147, 6240> thousand<MH505> armed<MH2502b> for war<MH6635>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>And Moses<MH4872> sent<MH7971> them, a thousand<MH505> from each tribe<MH4294>, to the war<MH6635>, and Phinehas<MH6372> the son<MH1121> of Eleazar<MH499> the priest<MH3548>, to the war<MH6635> with them, and the holy<MH6944> implements<MH3627> and the trumpets<MH2689> for the alarm<MH8643> in his hand<MH3027>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>So they made<MH6633> war<MH6633> against<MH5921> Midian<MH4080>, just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> the LORD<MH3068> had commanded<MH6680> Moses<MH4872>, and they killed<MH2026> every<MH3605> male<MH2145>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>They killed<MH2026> the kings<MH4428> of Midian<MH4080> along<MH5921> with<MH5921> the <i>rest of</i> those killed<MH2491a>: Evi<MH189>, Rekem<MH7552>, Zur<MH6698>, Hur<MH2354>, and Reba<MH7254>, the five<MH2568> kings<MH4428> of Midian<MH4080>. They also killed<MH2026> Balaam<MH1109a> the son<MH1121> of Beor<MH1160> with the sword<MH2719>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> took<MH7617> captive<MH7617> the women<MH802> of Midian<MH4080> and their little<MH2945> ones<MH2945>; and they plundered<MH962> all<MH3605> their cattle<MH929>, all<MH3605> their flocks<MH4735>, and all<MH3605> their property<MH2428>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>Then they <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[b]</a></span>burned<MH8313> all<MH3605> their cities<MH5892b> where<MH4186> they lived<MH4186> and all<MH3605> their encampments<MH2918>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>And they took<MH3947> all<MH3605> the plunder<MH7998> and all<MH3605> the spoils<MH4455a>, both of people<MH120> and of livestock<MH929>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>They brought<MH935> the captives<MH7628b> and the spoils<MH4455a> and the plunder<MH7998> to Moses<MH4872>, to Eleazar<MH499> the priest<MH3548>, and to the congregation<MH5712> of the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>, to the camp<MH4264> at the plains<MH6160> of Moab<MH4124> which<MH834> are by the Jordan<MH3383>, <i>opposite</i> Jericho<MH3405>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>And Moses<MH4872>, Eleazar<MH499> the priest<MH3548>, and all<MH3605> the leaders<MH5387a> of the congregation<MH5712> went<MH3318> out<MH3318> to meet<MH7122> them outside<MH413, 4480, 2351> the camp<MH4264>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>But Moses<MH4872> was<MH7107> angry<MH7107> with the officers<MH6485> of the army<MH2428>, the commanders<MH8269> of thousands<MH505> and the commanders<MH8269> of hundreds<MH3967>, who had come<MH935> from service<MH6635> in the war<MH4421>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>And Moses<MH4872> said<MH559> to them, “Have you <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>spared<MH2421a> all<MH3605> the women<MH5347>? <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>Behold<MH2005>, they caused<MH1961> the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>, through the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>counsel<MH1697> of Balaam<MH1109a>, to be unfaithful<MH4604> to the LORD<MH3068> in the matter<MH1697> of Peor<MH6465>, so that the plague<MH4046> took<MH1961> place<MH1961> among the congregation<MH5712> of the LORD<MH3068>! <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>Now<MH6258> therefore, kill<MH2026> every<MH3605> male<MH2145> among the little<MH2945> ones<MH2945>, and kill<MH2026> every<MH3605> woman<MH802> who has known<MH3045> a man<MH376> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>intimately<MH4904, 2145>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>However, all<MH3605> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>girls<MH2945, 802> who<MH834> have not known<MH3045> a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>man<MH2145> intimately<MH4904, 2145>, keep<MH2421a> alive<MH2421a> for yourselves. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>And <i>as for</i> you, camp<MH2583> outside<MH4480, 2351> the camp<MH4264> for seven<MH7651> days<MH3117>; whoever<MH3605> has killed<MH2026> a person<MH5315> and whoever<MH3605> has touched<MH5060> <i>anyone</i> killed<MH2491a>, purify<MH2398> yourselves, you and your captives<MH7628b>, on the third<MH7992> day<MH3117> and on the seventh<MH7637> day<MH3117>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>And you shall purify<MH2398> for yourselves every<MH3605> garment<MH899b>, every<MH3605> article<MH3627> of leather<MH5785>, every<MH3605> work<MH4639> of goats’<MH5795> <i>hair,</i> and every<MH3605> article<MH3627> of wood<MH6086>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>Then Eleazar<MH499> the priest<MH3548> said<MH559> to the men<MH376> of war<MH6635> who had gone<MH935> to battle<MH4421>, “This<MH2088> is the statute<MH2708> of the Law<MH8451> which<MH834> the LORD<MH3068> has commanded<MH6680> Moses<MH4872>: <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>only<MH389> the gold<MH2091> and the silver<MH3701>, the bronze<MH5178>, the iron<MH1270>, the tin<MH913>, and the lead<MH5777>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>everything<MH3605> that can <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>withstand<MH935> the fire<MH784>, you shall pass<MH5674a> through the fire<MH784>, and it will be<MH2891> clean<MH2891>, only<MH389> it shall be purified<MH2398> with water<MH4325> for impurity<MH5079>. But whatever<MH3605, 834> cannot<MH3808> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>withstand<MH935> the fire<MH784> you shall pass<MH5674a> through the water<MH4325>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>And you shall wash<MH3526> your clothes<MH899b> on the seventh<MH7637> day<MH3117> and you will be<MH2891> clean<MH2891>; and afterward<MH310> you may enter<MH935> the camp<MH4264>.” <p class="hdg">Division of the Plunder</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>Then the LORD<MH3068> spoke<MH559> to Moses<MH4872>, saying<MH559>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>“You and Eleazar<MH499> the priest<MH3548> and the heads<MH7218> of the fathers’<MH1> <i>households</i> of the congregation<MH5712> take<MH5375> a count<MH7218> of the spoils<MH4455a> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>that were captured<MH7628b>, both of people<MH120> and of livestock<MH929>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>and divide<MH2673> the spoils<MH4455a> between<MH996> the warriors<MH8610, 4421> who went<MH3318> to battle<MH6635> and all<MH3605> the congregation<MH5712>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>Also, collect<MH7311> a tribute<MH4371> tax<MH4371> for the LORD<MH3068> from the men<MH376> of war<MH4421> who went<MH3318> to battle<MH4421>, one<MH259> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>in five<MH2568> hundred<MH3967> of the persons<MH120>, of the cattle<MH1241>, of the donkeys<MH2543>, and of the sheep<MH6629>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>take<MH3947> it from their half<MH4276> and give<MH5414> it to Eleazar<MH499> the priest<MH3548>, as an <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>offering<MH8641> to the LORD<MH3068>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>And from the sons<MH1121> of Israel’s<MH3478> half<MH4276>, you shall take<MH3947> one<MH259> drawn<MH270> from every fifty<MH2572> of the persons<MH120>, of the cattle<MH1241>, of the donkeys<MH2543>, and of the sheep<MH6629>, from all<MH3605> the animals<MH929>; and give<MH5414> them to the Levites<MH3881> who perform<MH8104> the duty<MH4931> of the tabernacle<MH4908> of the LORD<MH3068>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>Moses<MH4872> and Eleazar<MH499> the priest<MH3548> did<MH6213a> just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> the LORD<MH3068> had commanded<MH6680> Moses<MH4872>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>Now the spoils<MH4455a> that remained<MH1961, 3499a> from the plunder<MH957> which<MH834> the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>men<MH5971a> of war<MH6635> had plundered<MH962> was 675,000<MH8337a, 3967, 505, 7657, 2568> sheep<MH6629>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>seventy-two<MH8147, 7657> thousand<MH505> cattle<MH1241>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>sixty-one<MH259, 8346> thousand<MH505> donkeys<MH2543>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>and of <i>captive</i> people<MH5315, 120>, of the women<MH802> who<MH834> had not known<MH3045> a <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>man<MH2145> intimately<MH4904>, in all<MH3605> were thirty-two<MH8147, 7970> thousand<MH505> people<MH5315>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-36.htm"><b>36</b></a></span>The half<MH4275>, the share<MH2506> of those who went<MH3318> to war<MH6635>, was <i>as follows:</i> the number<MH4557> of sheep<MH6629> was 337,500<MH7969, 3967, 505, 7970, 7651, 2568>, <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-37.htm"><b>37</b></a></span>the LORD’S<MH3068> tribute<MH4371> tax<MH4371> of the sheep<MH6629> was 675<MH8337a, 3967, 2568, 7657>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-38.htm"><b>38</b></a></span>the cattle<MH1241> were thirty-six<MH7970, 8337a> thousand<MH505>, from which the LORD’S<MH3068> tribute<MH4371> tax<MH4371> was seventy-two<MH8147, 7657>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-39.htm"><b>39</b></a></span>the donkeys<MH2543> were 30,500<MH7970, 505, 2568, 3967>, from which the LORD’S<MH3068> tribute<MH4371> tax<MH4371> was sixty-one<MH259, 8346>; <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-40.htm"><b>40</b></a></span>and the <i>captive</i> people<MH5315, 120> were sixteen<MH8337a, 6240> thousand<MH505>, from whom the LORD’S<MH3068> tribute<MH4371> tax<MH4371> was thirty-two<MH8147, 7970> persons<MH5315>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-41.htm"><b>41</b></a></span>And Moses<MH4872> gave<MH5414> the tribute<MH4371> tax<MH4371>, <i>which was</i> the LORD’S<MH3068> offering<MH8641>, to Eleazar<MH499> the Moses<MH4872> took<MH3947> one<MH259> drawn<MH270> from every fifty<MH2572>, both<MH4480> of people<MH120> and of animals<MH929>, and gave<MH5414> them to the Levites<MH3881>, who performed<MH8104> the duty<MH4931> of the tabernacle<MH4908> of the LORD<MH3068>, just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> the LORD<MH3068> had commanded<MH6680> Moses<MH4872>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a servants<MH5650> have taken<MH5375> a census<MH7218> of the men<MH376> of war<MH4421> who<MH834> are <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>under our authority<MH3027>, and no<MH3808> man<MH376> man<MH376> found<MH4672>, articles<MH3627> of gold<MH2091>, armlets<MH685> and bracelets<MH6781a>, signet<MH2885> rings<MH2885>, earrings<MH5694>, and necklaces<MH3558>, to make<MH3722a> took<MH3947> the gold<MH2091> from them, all<MH3605> kinds of crafted<MH4639> articles<MH3627>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-52.htm"><b>52</b></a></span>All<MH3605> the gold<MH2091> of the offering<MH8641> which<MH834> they offered<MH7311> up<MH7311> to the LORD<MH3068>, from the commanders<MH8269> of thousands<MH505> and the commanders<MH8269> of hundreds<MH3967>, was 16,750<MH8337a, 6240, 505, 7651, 3967, 2572> shekels<MH8255>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/numbers/31-53.htm"><b>53</b></a></span>The men<MH376> of war<MH6635> had taken<MH962> plunder<MH962>,
