We host repositories that provide free, open access to academic outputs and resources. Each repository record within OpenDOAR has been carefully reviewed and processed by a member of our editorial team which enables us to offer a trusted service for the community. </p> <p>The service launched in 2005 as the product of a collaborative project between the <a href="https://www.nottingham.ac.uk">University of Nottingham</a> and <a href="https://www.lub.lu.se">Lund University</a>, funded by OSI, Jisc, SPARC Europe and CURL. </p> <p>If you have any queries about OpenDOAR, email <a href="mailto:help@jisc.ac.uk">help@jisc.ac.uk</a>.</p> <h2>Key Information</h2> <p>Find out how we run the service and how you can use it.</p> <section class="is-collapsible show_hide__container is-collapsible--button show_hide--is-collapsed" data-collapsible=""> <h3 class="show_hide__trigger"> Managing Repository Records </h3> <div class="show_hide__target"> <p>Our team regularly monitors OpenDOAR and we aim to respond to queries within 5 working days (excluding UK national holidays). </p> <h3>Registering a repository</h3> <ol> <li>You need to complete a <a href="https://www.jisc.ac.uk/forms/register-your-repository-in-opendoar">Submit a Repository form</a> (remember to check the repository meets our eligibility criteria first).</li> <li>The team will review the request by visiting the repository and assess it against the OpenDOAR inclusion criteria. If the repository meets the requirements, it will be added to the directory and we’ll notify you once that’s done. If the repository does not meet the criteria, we will be in touch to explain why.</li> </ol> <h3>Updating an existing repository record</h3> <ol> <li>You will need to complete a Record Update Request form which can be found via the button at the foot of each repository record.</li> <li>The team will review and verify the requested update.</li> <li>We will update the existing repository record and notify you when this has been completed.</li> </ol> </div> </section> <section class="is-collapsible show_hide__container is-collapsible--button show_hide--is-collapsed" data-collapsible=""> <h3 class="show_hide__trigger"> Inclusion Criteria </h3> <div class="show_hide__target"> <p>For a repository to be listed in OpenDOAR it must align with our inclusion criteria: </p> <ul> <li>Site <strong>must</strong> have open access content available: <ul> <li>freely (you do not need to pay to access the material)</li> <li>without access barriers (you do not need to login/register, even if it is free to do so)</li> <li>in full (the full, unabridged version of the content can be accessed, not just an extract/ preview/ abstract/ bibliographic/ metadata record)<br /> <em>It is quite common for some content in a repository to be restricted by access rights / an embargo, and to be represented only by a bibliographic (metadata) listing. This is fine as long as at least some content in the repository is NOT restricted in this way and actually has a full text copy available.</em></li> </ul></li> <li>Site <strong>must</strong> be currently and reliably accessible to any web user around the world</li> <li>Site <strong>must</strong> contain items that are either academic outputs (e.g. journal articles, theses/ dissertations, reports, working papers, conference proceedings, books/ book chapter) and/or academic resources with sufficient metadata or documentation to make the material re-usable (e.g. archival material, datasets, software, images, videos, learning material)</li> <li>Site <strong>must not</strong> be an electronic journal, nor a portal for an entity’s portfolio of journals</li> <li>Site <strong>must not</strong> be an aggregator which solely contains links to open access content on external sites</li> <li>Site <strong>must not</strong> be a library catalogue or collection of locally accessible e-books (i.e. no open access content is available)</li> </ul> <p>If you have any questions about the inclusion criteria, please contact <a href="mailto:help@jisc.ac.uk">help@jisc.ac.uk</a>.</p> </div> </section> <section class="is-collapsible show_hide__container is-collapsible--button show_hide--is-collapsed" data-collapsible=""> <h3 class="show_hide__trigger"> API Access </h3> <div class="show_hide__target"> <p>Data stored in OpenDOAR is available over the Sherpa APIs.
