kind of person I was becoming.
Those things stick with you. Self determination. Some call it emptiness. But it’s really emptiness of inherent existence. There is not nothing. My acting teacher Stephen McKinley Henderson alwasy said “There’s never nothing”. There IS something. It’s just not existing out there forever and unchanging. A pencil was once a tree, and it will one day become stardust. I wasn’t born John E. O. the astronaut. I was a thing of living potential. They started out really at Coco’s friends. She went to Arizona in the middle of the cold desert to get some teachings and live in a tent. She was there with a bunch of other people. Some of them (four) are staying with us in our cozy Brooklyn apartment now. It’s a trip I tell ya, to go work on a Broadway show, chalk full of big personalities and cries for attention, and then come home to these people who are constantly striving for clarity and merit. All I have is the subway ride home for a buffer. So we were talking see, about the show. I was percieving, for one thing, wrong decisions being made, and for another thing, the loudness of actions that are the cries for attention. Of course, coming home to Dharma central, we are reminded that all we see are reflections of ourselves. What does that mean? Well, it means I’m crazy. It means that I’m wanting of attention. It means that I’ve acted frivolously in the past. I was thinking we can only recognize things that we understand. Things we have experienced. We put our experiences into terms of ourselves.
I thought, a person can do a great kindness for you, but that doesn’t mean you will percieve it. Just like an enlightened person may have great maliciousness directed toward them, but they will not see it as that. There is this story that at one time the Buddha was being chased and his pursuers were throwing spears at him. What did he see coming at him? Flowers.
That’s pretty extreme, huh? But who knows. One day if I ever get enlightened and I happen have folks chucking spears at me, I’ll tell you what I see.

Posted by <a seems i write here only when there’s nothing really going on. it’s no wonder it’s pretty boring here. when there is lots going on, i usually don’t stop to write. what i usually do is go to sleep or veg out playing exploding tank games. but look at the title of this entry. i would hate for the random stoppers by to stop stopping by. i once had blog diva aspirations, but those have since settled down next to the tai chi master and classical pianist aspirations. for now, i have attained something others aspire to: a gig on broadway. i can’t say it was one of those up front aspirations in my mind. i did have one specific dream, and that was to support coco while she had some time to study yoga and meditation. that is finally happening, and i’m proud of that.
i guess we could talk about the creative process involved in putting together a broadway show, but i’m kinda in the middle of it. one thing i keep coming back to is the fact that one assumes that after arriving on broadway, people would start to know what the hell they were doing. well, like they say in porgy and bess, it ain’t necessarily so. the things that you liable to assume on arrival, it ain’t necessarily so. i will how ever do my best to reserve judgement until opening day on may 10th. who knows or who can really judge a person’s creative process until they actually get to where they’re going.

Posted by beau on Monday, February 27, 2006 at 08:49 PM
class="title">mofongo

just back from puerto rico. smoke on your pipe and put that in. body tired. red eye flight straight back to work. breathing deeply, back at home. my dog is still alive. vacations always make me aprecitate home more better.
i asked my friend marlene, who inspired the trip, what should i do with money. she said, awww, you are so cute. puerto rico is like part of the united states, it’s like going to jersey.
we ended up getting crap weather. it was probably the worst weekend to go all year. we got clouds and raing, and one hour of sun. i soaked up that one hour though. saturday night we ended up going in to old san juan (after a day in old san juan where we went to el morro, an old fort). we went to five bars. i can’t remember the last time i had done that thing. youngsters do that kind of thing. i drank my face off. i found it in the gutter the next afternoon.
in a cool bar called the new yorican cafe, i randomly ran into my friend samuel. i did de la guarda with him. he happened to be in town finishing up some paperwork on a place he’s buying out there. he also happened to be on mushrooms. i bet it was a lot trippier for him to run into me.
crazy.
i will go back. and the next time i will be with coco. and the next time i will surf.

Posted by <a
