Sustainable development can be achieved by the micro level planning and management at watershed scale. Watershed is the basic land unit for water resource management and support for human as well as other living beings and is vulnerable to unfavorable weather events and climatic conditions. In present study, the morphometric characteristic of Adhala river basin was done. The Adhala river basin is one of the major tributaries of Pravara river which rises in the North of Akole at Deothan in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra. It extends between 19°32ʹ40ʺ N to 19°43ʹ02ʺ N latitudes and 74°10ʹ15ʺE to 74°48ʹ18ʺ E longitudes and encompasses an area of 216.17 km2. DEM data were used to calculate the flow accumulation, stream networks, morphometric characteristics and also delineation of watershed using ArcGIS watershed delineator tools. The more emphasis is given to evaluate all the morphometric parameters which are basically categorized in three aspects viz; linear, areal and relief. Strahler\u0026amp;#39;s stream ordering techniques \u0026amp;amp; analysis were followed. The results of the morphometric study showed that the trunk stream order was found to be of 6th order having 3145 numbers of streams in the basin, also total length of the streams was found to be 985.20 km. Lengths of streams indicate flatter gradient of the basin. Bifurcation ratio indicates elongated shape of the basin. Drainage density of Adhala basin was 4.54 km/km2 indicating high drainage densities, circularity ratio was 0.17 and indicated moderate to high relief. Infiltration number was 65.97 indicating low infiltration capacity and very high surface runoff. Relief aspect showed that absolute relief was 552 m and relief ratio was 0.02 indicating overall low relief due to highly elongated basin. The geoprocessing techniques employed in this study will assist in planning \u0026amp;amp; decision making in watershed Watershed is the basic land unit for water resource management and support for human as well as other living beings and is vulnerable to unfavorable weather events and climatic conditions. In present study, the morphometric characteristic of Adhala river basin was done. The Adhala river basin is one of the major tributaries of Pravara river which rises in the North of Akole at Deothan in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra. It extends between 19°32ʹ40ʺ N to 19°43ʹ02ʺ N latitudes and 74°10ʹ15ʺE to 74°48ʹ18ʺ E longitudes and encompasses an area of 216.17 km2. DEM data were used to calculate the flow accumulation, stream networks, morphometric characteristics and also delineation of watershed using ArcGIS watershed delineator tools. The more emphasis is given to evaluate all the morphometric parameters which are basically categorized in three aspects viz; linear, areal and relief. Strahler's stream ordering techniques \u0026 analysis were followed. The results of the morphometric study showed that the trunk stream order was found to be of 6th order having 3145 numbers of streams in the basin, also total length of the streams was found to be 985.20 km. Lengths of streams indicate flatter gradient of the basin. Bifurcation ratio indicates elongated shape of the basin. Drainage density of Adhala basin was 4.54 km/km2 indicating high drainage densities, circularity ratio was 0.17 and indicated moderate to high relief. Infiltration number was 65.97 indicating low infiltration capacity and very high surface runoff. Relief aspect showed that absolute relief was 552 m and relief ratio was 0.02 indicating overall low relief due to highly elongated basin. The Morphometric studies helps to understand the nature of the drainage properties of watershed, which in turn gives a valid reasoning for the soil transportation and its conservation. Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing is the most efficient tools in delineation of drainage patterns and water resources planning worldwide. The hydrological investigations provides the information for planning, delineating, evaluation, exploitation and management of groundwater resources. The main sources is the rainfall that plays a vital role in fluctuation of water table. Depending upon the hydrogeological characters of the subsurface, the rate of recharge after the rainfall event decides the groundwater levels and there is always a time gap, which is defined as lap time to attain the maximum water level and subsequently there is a time gap for attaining lowest water level which is also a function of Geology and differences in the heads provide the flow of water from higher potential to lower potential. This flow of water brings down the water levels increasing the gap between the surface and the water table which is designated as the vadose zone. This also delineates the area feasible and non-feasible for artificial recharge. The present study area is Dindigul district and its suburbs have been frequented by heavy rains during the monsoon seasons. The river Kodavanar which is frequently in spate during the monsoon seasons and flows through the western part of the Dindigul and its suburbs has a large catchment area, extending to the neighbouring Karur and Madurai Districts on the north east. The aim is to assess the morphometric characteristics of the Kodavanar sub basin of Amaravathy basin of Tamil Nadu. The objectives is to accomplish the aim are: to analyse the linear, areal and relief aspects and to bring out the form and processes of the study area. In order to understand the drainage characteristics in various parts of the Kodavanar sub basin, the basin has been divided into 5 watersheds namely, Kodavanar-Umiyar, Anaiviludan Odai, Pudukulam kombaiar, Todikombu and Periyakombai watersheds. Usually drainage network follows elevation of terrain. A linear drainage network will either controlled by geological structures or steep slope. Typically it represents the fault zones, series of folds, fracture zones, shear zones and igneous intrusions like dykes. Lineaments were extracted from Bhuvan website in the form of WMS layer and processed in ArcGIS 9.3 software. Drainage networks for the sub watershed are extracted from Cartosat 1 Dem data derived from Bhuvan portal. Morphometric calculations were carried out using ArcGIS 9.3 to evaluate aerial, linear and relief features of morphometric parameters. Compare to conventional method of drainage analysis, Remote sensing and GIS can provide appropriate data with good coverage. The analysis clearly shows following successive results. IX sub-basin have high elongation ratio (Re), basin relief (Bh), Ruggedness number (Rn) and time of concentration (Tc). The erosion and peak discharges were high in these basins. It is necessary to construct the check dams and earth dams to reduce peak discharge along the main channel. The basin morphometry shows the numerical analysis and mathematical quantification of different aspects of the watershed. The morphometric analysis includes aspects such as linear, areal &amp; relief. The area and perimeter of the basin was calculated as 848694 sq. m. and 4923.06 m respectively. The total number of streams were found to be 213 and the total stream length of the watershed was calculated as 12833.6240 mof all the 4 stream orders forming a dendritic type of drainage pattern. The maximum length of the stream for the entire basin was observed to be 315.532 m. The bifurcation ratio of the basin varied from 1.543 to 5.000; the elongation ratio and the circularity ratio of the drainage basin were calculated as 0.5967 and 0.4398 respectively. The drainage patterns are dendritic and parallel, covering 390 sq. km. Morphometric analysis was done to determine the drainage characteristics of Vincharna watershed using topographic maps, ASTER and SRTM DEM (30 m Resolution). For detailed study, ASTER and SRTM data was used for preparing Digital Elevation Model (DEM). The relief data was derived from SOI toposheets and GIS-RS techniques were used to evaluate Linear, Areal and Relief aspects of morphometric parameters. Watershed boundary, flow accumulation, flow direction, flow length, stream ordering were prepared using Hydrology Tool; and contour, Slope, Aspect, Hillshade have been prepared using Surface Tool in ArcGIS-10 software. The morphometric parameters considered for analysis are stream order, stream length, bifurcation ratio, drainage density, stream frequency, texture ratio, form factor, circulatory ratio, elongation ratio, relief ratio, length of overland flow and basin shape. A total number of 1654 streams were identified of which 1223 are first order streams, 320 are 2 nd order, 77 are 3 rd order, 20 are 4 th order, 6 are 5 th order, 4 are 6 th order and 4 are of 7 th order. The streams up to seventh order can be seen in BAISWD6, BAISWD7, BAISWD8, and BAISWD11. Drainage patterns of stream network from the basin have been observed as mainly dendritic type which indicates the homogeneity in texture and lack of structural control.The drainage pattern is dendritic and the highest order stream is of 7 th order. The bifurcation ratio (Rbm) varies from 2.99 to 5.91 and all sub-watersheds fall under normal basin category. The drainage density (Dd) of the study area is varying between 2.05 and 2.89 km/km 2 indicating low density with highly permeable subsoil, thick vegetation cover, low relief and course drainage texture. Elongation ratio of all the watersheds varies between 0.65 to 0.70 respectively and indicating that it is elongated. Circulatory Ratio (Rc) ranges from 0.38 to 0.68 indicating that all the sub-watersheds except BAISWD6 are more or less circular and are characterized by high to moderate relief and drainage system is structurally controlled. The sub-watershed BAISWD6 having the Rc value of 0.38 indicating that it is elongated. The relief ratio of all sub-watersheds varies between the values of 23.56 to 47.59m, which indicates that the basin has strong relief and steep slope. The compound parameter values of 12 sub-watersheds of study area were calculated and prioritization rating was carried out.
