The purpose of these experiments is to observe the surface impact of collapsing cavitating bubbles. The most of method are based on spark to induced superheat limit of liquid. Here we compare the one of these methods-laser induced breakdown (LIB) with more correct mechanical way using ultrasound as generator. There is described the setup for ultrasound cavitation effecting the sessile bubble as well as random generated and moving bubble. We visualize the cavitation bubble using high speed camera of speed 180 kHz. The experimental research is carried out in the cavitation water tunnel located in the Centre of Hydraulic Research in Lutín. The tunnel is integrated into the closed horizontal loop of the hydraulic test rig. The transparent test section provides a full view of the flow around the hydrofoil. The hydrofoil incidence angle is fully adjustable. Two variants of hydrofoil of the same geometry have been designed. One variant is equipped with pressure tap holes for the measurement of the static pressure, and the other variant is covered with a grid of five PVDF films, fully integrated in the hydrofoil. The PVDF films enable to measure the impact forces exerted on the hydrofoil surface by the collapsing cavitation structures. The high-frequency pressure oscillations downstream of the hydrofoil trailing edge are measured using the PVDF hydrophone. The cavitating flow is visualized using two simultaneously operating high-speed cameras providing the top and side views of the flow. A preliminary CFD analysis using the ANSYS CFX package helped to determine the flow regimes for the experimental study. A vapour bubble is generated inside a cubic chamber by local heating of water inside a thin channel in a button. The bubble collapse is initiated by a piezoelectric actuator attached to the flexible wall of the chamber. A laser diode with a linear CCD sensor are used to detect the bubble position during its buoyancy-driven rise to the upper wall of the chamber. The bubble collapse impact load is measured using a PVDF piezoelectric transducer glued to the upper wall of the chamber and recorded by high-speed CCD camera illuminated by a high-power LED diode. The pressure inside the chamber is measured by the dynamic pressure transducer. The bubble was generated by discharge of low-voltage capacitor into a couple of wires closing a simple circuit. Different distances from the solid wall and different maximum bubble radii were studied. The bubble radius was studied using time-resolved photography and by PVDF film sensor glued on the solid boundary. The illumination was provided by high-power led diode. Synchronization of the system was provided by pulse generator connected to an oscilloscope. The impact power of the bubble to the wall was estimated from the time-resolved photography of the bubble and from the PVDF film sensor signal. The purpose of these experiments is to observe the surface impact of collapsing cavitating bubbles. The most of method are based on spark to induced superheat limit of liquid. Here we compare the one of these methods-laser induced breakdown (LIB) with more correct mechanical way using ultrasound as generator. There is described the setup for ultrasound cavitation effecting the sessile bubble as well as random generated and moving bubble. We visualize the cavitation bubble using high speed camera of speed 180 kHz. The experimental research is carried out in the cavitation water tunnel located in the Centre of Hydraulic Research in Lutín. The tunnel is integrated into the closed horizontal loop of the hydraulic test rig. The transparent test section provides a full view of the flow around the hydrofoil. The hydrofoil incidence angle is fully adjustable. Two variants of hydrofoil of the same geometry have been designed. One variant is equipped with pressure tap holes for the measurement of the static pressure, and the other variant is covered with a grid of five PVDF films, fully integrated in the hydrofoil. The PVDF films enable to measure the impact forces exerted on the hydrofoil surface by the collapsing cavitation structures. The high-frequency pressure oscillations downstream of the hydrofoil trailing edge are measured using the PVDF hydrophone. The cavitating flow is visualized using two simultaneously operating high-speed cameras providing the top and side views of the flow. A preliminary CFD analysis using the ANSYS CFX package helped to determine the flow regimes for the experimental study. A vapour bubble is generated inside a cubic chamber by local heating of water inside a thin channel in a button. The bubble collapse is initiated by a piezoelectric actuator attached to the flexible wall of the chamber. A laser diode with a linear CCD sensor are used to detect the bubble position during its buoyancy-driven rise to the upper wall of the chamber. The bubble collapse impact load is measured using a PVDF piezoelectric transducer glued to the upper wall of the chamber and recorded by high-speed CCD camera illuminated by a high-power LED diode. The pressure inside the chamber is measured by the dynamic pressure transducer. The system was synchronized by pulse generator connected to an oscilloscope. These experiments have been aimed to visualize the cavitation phenomena as well as to quantify the erosion potential using pitting tests evaluated during the incubation period for the cast-iron prismatic hydrofoil with the modified NACA profile. A bypass section installed in the tunnel has allowed to measure the nuclei content in the inlet flow to the test section using the acoustic spectrometer. The bubble was generated by discharge of low-voltage capacitor into a couple of wires closing a simple circuit. Different distances from the solid wall and different maximum bubble radii were studied. The bubble radius was studied using time-resolved photography and by PVDF film sensor glued on the solid boundary. The illumination was provided by high-power led diode. Synchronization of the system was provided by pulse generator connected to an oscilloscope. The impact power of the bubble to the wall was estimated from the time-resolved photography of the bubble and from the PVDF film sensor signal. The experimental setup used for the measurement is described. The heating and cooling power are calculated based on the mass flow and temperature measurement. Particle trace method is used for the visualization of the flow inside and outside the convector.
