Her research focus in on improving outomes among patients who suffer from strokes, specifically after brain aneurysm rupture. After completing her training at UCSF, she remains committed to the education and training of our futureleaders in her role as Fellowship program Director and Vice Chair for Diversity in the Department of Neurology. After attending a CSW-sponsored event focused on work-life balance, she joined CSW to become an active participant in supporting the community of women at UCSF. Based clinically at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG), Mabel works with the underserved pediatric population of San Francisco. She is also involved in peer mentoring of fellow women faculty and is actively involved with WARM Hearts (Women’s Advancement and Recognition in Medicine), a peer networking and women’s faculty development group based at ZSFG. While the chair of WARM Hearts from 2014-2018 she was a member of CSW to ensure that women faculty based at ZSFG were represented in the larger UCSF community. She has served as Principal Investigator of numerous federally funded grants focused on decreasing adolescent risky behavior through improving the care provided by the health care system and the primary care provider, and has more recently focused on ways that technology can be incorporated into successful models of preventive care.  She is the PI on a UC Office of the President-funded initiative to advance faculty diversity in Departmental leadership positions and has served as investigator on two NIH grants to enhance the training of women and underrepresented minorities within the health sciences workforce. Weiss is a human geneticist and her research laboratory studies the complex genetics of autism using both analytical and experimental methods. Lauren joined the CSW after starting a Professional Problem Solving group for junior female faculty. She was inspired to do so after attending an AAMC leadership event for women with a session on table manners where female faculty were taught how to set a table and told not to leave lipstick marks on a glass (because it can be very distracting for male colleagues), but where the other attendees had more helpful ideas to share based on their career experiences. Lauren was a co-recipient of the Chancellor's Award for the Advancement of Women based on her work with CSW to develop 'tip sheets' to reduce gender bias in common academic scenarios.
