Whether<MH4480> people<MH120> or<MH5704> animals<MH929>, they have wandered<MH5110> off<MH5110>, they have gone<MH1980>! <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/50-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>“In those<MH1992a> days<MH3117> and at that time<MH6256>,” declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>, “the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> will come<MH935>, they and the sons<MH1121> of Judah<MH3063> as<MH3164a> well<MH3164a>; they will go<MH1980> along weeping<MH1058> as they go<MH1980>, and <i>it will be</i> the LORD<MH3068> their God<MH430> <i>whom</i> they will seek<MH1245>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/50-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>They will ask<MH7592> for the way<MH1870> to Zion<MH6726>, <i>turning</i> their faces<MH6440> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[c]</a></span>in its direction<MH2008>; <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[d]</a></span>they <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>will come<MH935> so that they may join<MH3867a> themselves to the LORD<MH3068> <i>in</i> an everlasting<MH5769> covenant<MH1285> <i>that</i> will not be forgotten<MH7911>. <poetry><p class="paragraph"><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/50-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>“My people<MH5971a> have become<MH1961> lost<MH6> sheep<MH6629>; <t><p class="indent1">Their shepherds<MH7462a> have led<MH8582> them astray<MH8582>. <t><p class="indent1">They have made them turn<MH7725> aside<MH7725> <i>on</i> the mountains<MH2022>. <t><p class="indent1">They have gone<MH1980> from mountain<MH2022> to hill<MH1389>, <t><p class="indent1">They have forgotten<MH7911> their resting<MH7258> place<MH7258>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/50-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>“All<MH3605> who found<MH4672> them have devoured<MH398> them; <t><p class="indent1">And their adversaries<MH6862c> have said<MH559>, ‘We are not guilty<MH816>, <t><p class="indent1">Since<MH8478, 834> they have sinned<MH2398> against the LORD<MH3068> <i>who is</i> the habitation<MH5116a> of righteousness<MH6664>, <t><p class="indent1">The LORD<MH3068>, the hope<MH4723a> of their fathers<MH1>.’ <poetry><p class="paragraph"><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/50-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>“Wander<MH5110> away<MH5110> from the midst<MH8432> of Babylon<MH894> <t><p class="indent1">And <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>go<MH3318> out<MH3318> from the land<MH776> of the Chaldeans<MH3778>; <t><p class="indent1">Be like male<MH6260> goats<MH6260> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>at the head<MH6440> of the flock<MH6629>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/50-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>“For behold<MH2009>, I am going to rouse<MH5782> and bring<MH5927> up<MH5927> against<MH5921> Babylon<MH894> <t><p class="indent1">A contingent<MH6951> of great<MH1419> nations<MH1471> from the land<MH776> of the north<MH6828>, <t><p class="indent1">And they will draw<MH6186a> up<MH6186a> <i>their</i> battle<MH6186a> lines<MH6186a> against her; <t><p class="indent1">From there<MH8033> she will be taken<MH3920> captive<MH3920>. <t><p class="indent1">Their arrows<MH2671> will be like <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>an expert<MH7919a> warrior<MH1368> <t><p class="indent1">Who does not return<MH7725> empty-handed<MH7387>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/50-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>“<span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>Chaldea<MH3778> will become<MH1961> plunder<MH7998>; <t><p class="indent1">All<MH3605> who plunder<MH7997b> her will have<MH7646> enough<MH7646>,” declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>. <poetry><p class="paragraph"><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/50-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>“Because<MH3588> you are<MH8055> glad<MH8055>, because<MH3588> you are<MH5937> jubilant<MH5937>, <t><p class="indent1">You who pillage<MH8154> My heritage<MH5159>, <t><p class="indent1">Because<MH3588> you skip<MH6335a> about<MH6335a> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>like a threshing<MH1758> heifer<MH5697> <t><p class="indent1">And neigh<MH6670a> like <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>stallions<MH47>, <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/50-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>Your mother<MH517> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>will be<MH954> greatly<MH3966> ashamed<MH954>, <t><p class="indent1">She who gave<MH3205> you birth<MH3205> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>will be humiliated<MH2659>. <t><p class="indent1">Behold<MH2009>, <i>she will be</i> the least<MH319> of the nations<MH1471>, <t><p class="indent1">A wilderness<MH4057b>, a dry<MH6723> land<MH6723> and a desert<MH6160>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/50-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>“Because<MH4480> of the wrath<MH7110a> of the LORD<MH3068> she will not be inhabited<MH3427>, <t><p class="indent1">But she will be completely<MH3605> desolate<MH8077>; <t><p class="indent1">Everyone<MH3605> who passes<MH5674a> by Babylon<MH894> will be horrified<MH8074> <t><p class="indent1">And will hiss<MH8319> because<MH5921> of all<MH3605> her wounds<MH4347>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/50-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>“Draw<MH6186a> up<MH6186a> your battle<MH6186a> lines<MH6186a> against<MH5921> Babylon<MH894> on every<MH5439> side<MH5439>, <t><p class="indent1">All<MH3605> of you who <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>bend<MH1869> the bow<MH7198>; <t><p class="indent1">Shoot<MH3034> at her, do not spare<MH2550> <i>your</i> arrows<MH2671>, <t><p class="indent1">For she has sinned<MH2398> against the LORD<MH3068>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/50-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>“Raise<MH7321> your battle<MH7321> cry<MH7321> against<MH5921> her on every<MH5439> side<MH5439>! <t><p class="indent1">She has given<MH5414> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>herself<MH3027> up<MH5414>, her towers<MH806b> have fallen<MH5307>, <t><p class="indent1">Her walls<MH2346> have been torn<MH2040> down<MH2040>. <t><p class="indent1">For this<MH1931> is the vengeance<MH5360> of the LORD<MH3068>: <p class="indent1stline">Take<MH5358> vengeance<MH5358> on her; <t><p class="indent1">As she has done<MH6213a> <i>to others, so</i> do<MH6213a> to her. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/50-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>“Eliminate<MH3772> the sower<MH2232> from Babylon<MH894> <t><p class="indent1">And the one who wields<MH8610> the sickle<MH4038> at the time<MH6256> of harvest<MH7105a>; <t><p class="indent1">From <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>the sword<MH2719> of the oppressor<MH3238> <t><p class="indent1">Each<MH376> of them will turn<MH6437> back<MH6437> to his own people<MH5971a> <t><p class="indent1">And each<MH376> of them will flee<MH5127> to his own land<MH776>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/50-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>“Israel<MH3478> is a scattered<MH6340> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>flock<MH7716>, the lions<MH738> have driven<MH5080> <i>them</i> away<MH5080>. The first<MH7223> one<MH7223> <i>who</i> devoured<MH398> him was the king<MH4428> of Assyria<MH804b>, and this<MH2088> last<MH314> one<MH314> <i>who</i> has gnawed<MH6105c> his bones<MH6105c> is Nebuchadnezzar<MH5019> king<MH4428> of Babylon<MH894>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/50-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>Therefore<MH3651> this<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the LORD<MH3068> of armies<MH6635>, the God<MH430> of Israel<MH3478> says<MH559>: ‘Behold<MH2009>, I am going to punish<MH6485> the king<MH4428> of Babylon<MH894> and his land<MH776>, just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> I punished<MH6485> the king<MH4428> of Assyria<MH804b>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/50-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>And I will bring<MH7725> Israel<MH3478> back<MH7725> to his pasture<MH5116a> and he will graze<MH7462a> on Carmel<MH3760> and Bashan<MH1316>, and his <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>desire<MH5315> will be<MH7646> satisfied<MH7646> in the hill<MH2022> country<MH2022> of Ephraim<MH669> and Gilead<MH1568>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/50-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>In those<MH1992a> days<MH3117> and at that time<MH6256>,’ declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>, ‘search<MH1245> will be made<MH1245> for the wrongdoing<MH5771> of Israel<MH3478>, but there<MH369> will<MH369> be<MH369> none<MH369>; and for the sins<MH2403b> of Judah<MH3063>, but they will not be found<MH4672>; for I will forgive<MH5545> those whom<MH834> I leave<MH7604> as<MH7604> a<MH7604> remnant<MH7604>.’ <poetry><p class="paragraph"><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/50-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>“Against<MH5921> the land<MH776> of <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[s]</a></span>Merathaim<MH4850>, go<MH5927> up<MH5927> against<MH5921> it, <t><p class="indent1">And against<MH413> the inhabitants<MH3427> of <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[t]</a></span>Pekod<MH6489>. <t><p class="indent1">Kill<MH2717c> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[u]</a></span>completely<MH2763a> destroy<MH2763a> them,” declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>, <p class="indent1stline">“And do<MH6213a> according to everything<MH3605> that I have commanded<MH6680> you. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/50-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>“The noise<MH6963> of battle<MH4421> is in the land<MH776>, <t><p class="indent1">And great<MH1419> destruction<MH7667>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/50-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>“How<MH349> the hammer<MH6360> of the whole<MH3605> earth<MH776> <t><p class="indent1">Has been cut<MH1438> off<MH1438> and broken<MH7665>! <t><p class="indent1">How<MH349> Babylon<MH894> has become<MH1961> <t><p class="indent1">An object<MH8047> of<MH8047> horror<MH8047> among the nations<MH1471>! <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/50-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>“I set<MH3369> a<MH3369> trap<MH3369> for you and you were also<MH1571> caught<MH3920>, Babylon<MH894>, <t><p class="indent1">While you yourself<MH855b> were<MH3045> not aware<MH3045>; <t><p class="indent1">You have been found<MH4672> and also<MH1571> seized<MH8610> <t><p class="indent1">Because<MH3588> you have engaged<MH1624> in<MH1624> conflict<MH1624> with the LORD<MH3068>.” <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/50-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>The LORD<MH3068> has opened<MH6605a> His armory<MH214> <t><p class="indent1">And has brought<MH3318> out<MH3318> the weapons<MH3627> of His indignation<MH2195>, <t><p class="indent1">For it is a work<MH4399> of the Lord<MH136> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[v]</a></span>GOD<MH3068> of armies<MH6635> <t><p class="indent1">In the land<MH776> of the Chaldeans<MH3778>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/50-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>Come<MH935> to her from the <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[w]</a></span>farthest<MH7093> border<MH7093>; <t><p class="indent1">Open<MH6605a> up<MH6605a> her barns<MH3965>, <t><p class="indent1">Pile<MH5549> her up<MH5549> like<MH3644> heaps<MH6194> of<MH6194> grain<MH6194> <t><p class="indent1">And <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[x]</a></span>completely<MH2763a> destroy<MH2763a> her, <t><p class="indent1">Let nothing<MH408> be left<MH7611> to her. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/50-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>Put<MH2717c> all<MH3605> her bulls<MH6499> to<MH2717c> the<MH2717c> sword<MH2717c>; <t><p class="indent1">Let them go<MH3381> down<MH3381> to the slaughter<MH2874>! <t><p class="indent1">Woe<MH1945> be upon them, for their day<MH3117> has come<MH935>, <t><p class="indent1">The time<MH6256> of their punishment<MH6486>. <poetry><p class="paragraph"><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/50-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>There is a sound<MH6963> of fugitives<MH5127> and refugees<MH6412b> from the land<MH776> of Babylon<MH894>, <t><p class="indent1">To declare<MH5046> in Zion<MH6726> the vengeance<MH5360> of the LORD<MH3068> our God<MH430>, <t><p class="indent1">Vengeance<MH5360> for His temple<MH1964>. <poetry><p class="paragraph"><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/50-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>“Summon<MH8085> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[y]</a></span>many<MH7227a> against<MH413> Babylon<MH894>, <t><p class="indent1">All<MH3605> those who <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[z]</a></span>bend<MH1869> the bow<MH7198>: <p class="indent1stline">Encamp<MH2583> against<MH5921> her on every<MH5439> side<MH5439>, <t><p class="indent1">Let there be no<MH408> escape<MH6413><span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[aa]</a></span>. <t><p class="indent1">Repay<MH7999a> her according to her work<MH6467>; <t><p class="indent1">According to all<MH3605> that she has done<MH6213a>, <i>so</i> do<MH6213a> to her; <t><p class="indent1">For she has become<MH2102> arrogant<MH2102> against<MH413> the LORD<MH3068>, <t><p class="indent1">Against<MH413> the Holy<MH6918> One<MH6918> of Israel<MH3478>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/50-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>“Therefore<MH3651> her young<MH970> men<MH970> will fall<MH5307> in her streets<MH7339>, <t><p class="indent1">And all<MH3605> her men<MH376> of war<MH4421> will perish<MH1826a> on that day<MH3117>,” declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/50-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>“Behold<MH2009>, I am against<MH413> you, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[ab]</a></span>arrogant<MH2087> one,” <t><p class="indent1">Declares<MH5002> the Lord<MH136> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[ac]</a></span>GOD<MH3068> of armies<MH6635>, <p class="indent1stline">“For your day<MH3117> has come<MH935>, <t><p class="indent1">The time<MH6256> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[ad]</a></span>when I will punish<MH6485> you. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/50-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>“The <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[ae]</a></span>arrogant<MH2087> one will stumble<MH3782> and fall<MH5307> <t><p class="indent1">With no<MH369> one<MH369> to raise<MH6965> him up<MH6965>; <t><p class="indent1">And I will set<MH3341> fire<MH784> to his cities<MH5892b>, <t><p class="indent1">And it will devour<MH398> all<MH3605> his surroundings<MH5439>.” <poetry><p class="paragraph"><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/50-33.htm"><b>33</b></a></span>This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the LORD<MH3068> of armies<MH6635> says<MH559>: <p class="indent1stline">“The sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> are oppressed<MH6231>, <t><p class="indent1">And the sons<MH1121> of Judah<MH3063> as<MH3164a> well<MH3164a>; <t><p class="indent1">And all<MH3605> who took<MH7617> them captive<MH7617> have held<MH2388> them firmly<MH2388>, <t><p class="indent1">They have refused<MH3985> to let<MH7971> them go<MH7971>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/50-34.htm"><b>34</b></a></span>“Their Redeemer<MH1350> is strong<MH2389>, the LORD<MH3068> of armies<MH6635> is His name<MH8034>; <t><p class="indent1">He will vigorously<MH7378> plead<MH7378> their case<MH7379> <t><p class="indent1">So<MH4616> that<MH4616> He may bring<MH7280b> rest<MH7280b> to their land<MH776>, <t><p class="indent1">But turmoil<MH7264> to the inhabitants<MH3427> of Babylon<MH894>. <poetry><p class="indent1"><span class="reftext"><a href="/jeremiah/50-35.htm"><b>35</b></a></span>“A sword<MH2719> against<MH5921> the Chaldeans<MH3778>,” declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>, <p class="indent1stline">“And against<MH413> the inhabitants<MH3427> of Babylon<MH894> <t><p class="indent1">And against<MH413> her leaders<MH8269> and her wise<MH2450> men<MH2450>!
