Say<MH559>, <t>‘Babylon<MH894> has been captured<MH3920>, <t>Bel<MH1078> has been put<MH954> to<MH954> shame<MH954>, <a href="#fn">[a]</a>Marduk<MH4781> has been<MH2865> <a href="#fn">[b]</a>shattered<MH2865>; <t>Her idols<MH6091> have been put<MH954> to<MH954> shame<MH954>, her images<MH1544> have been<MH2865> shattered<MH2865>.’ <A><a href="/jeremiah/50-3.htm">3</a>For a nation<MH1471> has come<MH5927> up<MH5927> against<MH5921> her from the north<MH6828>; it will make<MH7896> her land<MH776> an object<MH8047> of<MH8047> horror<MH8047>, and there will be no<MH3808> inhabitant<MH3427> in it. Whether<MH4480> people<MH120> or<MH5704> animals<MH929>, they have wandered<MH5110> off<MH5110>, they have gone<MH1980>! <a href="/jeremiah/50-4.htm">4</a>“In those<MH1992a> days<MH3117> and at that time<MH6256>,” declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>, “the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> will come<MH935>, they and the sons<MH1121> of Judah<MH3063> as<MH3164a> well<MH3164a>; they will go<MH1980> along weeping<MH1058> as they go<MH1980>, and it will be the LORD<MH3068> their God<MH430> whom they will seek<MH1245>. <a href="/jeremiah/50-5.htm">5</a>They will ask<MH7592> for the way<MH1870> to Zion<MH6726>, turning their faces<MH6440> <a href="#fn">[c]</a>in its direction<MH2008>; <a href="#fn">[d]</a>they <a href="#fn">[e]</a>will come<MH935> so that they may join<MH3867a> themselves to the LORD<MH3068> in an everlasting<MH5769> covenant<MH1285> that will not be forgotten<MH7911>. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/50-6.htm">6</a>“My people<MH5971a> have become<MH1961> lost<MH6> sheep<MH6629>; <t>Their shepherds<MH7462a> have led<MH8582> them astray<MH8582>. <t>They have made them turn<MH7725> aside<MH7725> on the mountains<MH2022>. <t>They have gone<MH1980> from mountain<MH2022> to hill<MH1389>, <t>They have forgotten<MH7911> their resting<MH7258> place<MH7258>. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/50-7.htm">7</a>“All<MH3605> who found<MH4672> them have devoured<MH398> them; <t>And their adversaries<MH6862c> have said<MH559>, ‘We are not guilty<MH816>, <t>Since<MH8478, 834> they have sinned<MH2398> against the LORD<MH3068> who is the habitation<MH5116a> of righteousness<MH6664>, <t>The LORD<MH3068>, the hope<MH4723a> of their fathers<MH1>.’ <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/50-8.htm">8</a>“Wander<MH5110> away<MH5110> from the midst<MH8432> of Babylon<MH894> <t>And <a href="#fn">[f]</a>go<MH3318> out<MH3318> from the land<MH776> of the Chaldeans<MH3778>; <t>Be like male<MH6260> goats<MH6260> <a href="#fn">[g]</a>at the head<MH6440> of the flock<MH6629>. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/50-9.htm">9</a>“For behold<MH2009>, I am going to rouse<MH5782> and bring<MH5927> up<MH5927> against<MH5921> Babylon<MH894> <t>A contingent<MH6951> of great<MH1419> nations<MH1471> from the land<MH776> of the north<MH6828>, <t>And they will draw<MH6186a> up<MH6186a> their battle<MH6186a> lines<MH6186a> against her; <t>From there<MH8033> she will be taken<MH3920> captive<MH3920>. <t>Their arrows<MH2671> will be like <a href="#fn">[h]</a>an expert<MH7919a> warrior<MH1368> <t>Who does not return<MH7725> empty-handed<MH7387>. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/50-10.htm">10</a>“<a href="#fn">[i]</a>Chaldea<MH3778> will become<MH1961> plunder<MH7998>; <t>All<MH3605> who plunder<MH7997b> her will have<MH7646> enough<MH7646>,” declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/50-11.htm">11</a>“Because<MH3588> you are<MH8055> glad<MH8055>, because<MH3588> you are<MH5937> jubilant<MH5937>, <t>You who pillage<MH8154> My heritage<MH5159>, <t>Because<MH3588> you skip<MH6335a> about<MH6335a> <a href="#fn">[j]</a>like a threshing<MH1758> heifer<MH5697> <t>And neigh<MH6670a> like <a href="#fn">[k]</a>stallions<MH47>, <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/50-12.htm">12</a>Your mother<MH517> <a href="#fn">[l]</a>will be<MH954> greatly<MH3966> ashamed<MH954>, <t>She who gave<MH3205> you birth<MH3205> <a href="#fn">[m]</a>will be humiliated<MH2659>. <t>Behold<MH2009>, she will be the least<MH319> of the nations<MH1471>, <t>A wilderness<MH4057b>, a dry<MH6723> land<MH6723> and a desert<MH6160>. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/50-13.htm">13</a>“Because<MH4480> of the wrath<MH7110a> of the LORD<MH3068> she will not be inhabited<MH3427>, <t>But she will be completely<MH3605> desolate<MH8077>; <t>Everyone<MH3605> who passes<MH5674a> by Babylon<MH894> will be horrified<MH8074> <t>And will hiss<MH8319> because<MH5921> of all<MH3605> her wounds<MH4347>. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/50-14.htm">14</a>“Draw<MH6186a> up<MH6186a> your battle<MH6186a> lines<MH6186a> against<MH5921> Babylon<MH894> on every<MH5439> side<MH5439>, <t>All<MH3605> of you who <a href="#fn">[n]</a>bend<MH1869> the bow<MH7198>; <t>Shoot<MH3034> at her, do not spare<MH2550> your arrows<MH2671>, <t>For she has sinned<MH2398> against the LORD<MH3068>. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/50-15.htm">15</a>“Raise<MH7321> your battle<MH7321> cry<MH7321> against<MH5921> her on every<MH5439> side<MH5439>! <t>She has given<MH5414> <a href="#fn">[o]</a>herself<MH3027> up<MH5414>, her towers<MH806b> have fallen<MH5307>, <t>Her walls<MH2346> have been torn<MH2040> down<MH2040>. <t>For this<MH1931> is the vengeance<MH5360> of the LORD<MH3068>: Take<MH5358> vengeance<MH5358> on her; <t>As she has done<MH6213a> to others, so do<MH6213a> to her. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/50-16.htm">16</a>“Eliminate<MH3772> the sower<MH2232> from Babylon<MH894> <t>And the one who wields<MH8610> the sickle<MH4038> at the time<MH6256> of harvest<MH7105a>; <t>From <a href="#fn">[p]</a>the sword<MH2719> of the oppressor<MH3238> <t>Each<MH376> of them will turn<MH6437> back<MH6437> to his own people<MH5971a> <t>And each<MH376> of them will flee<MH5127> to his own land<MH776>. <a href="/jeremiah/50-17.htm">17</a>“Israel<MH3478> is a scattered<MH6340> <a href="#fn">[q]</a>flock<MH7716>, the lions<MH738> have driven<MH5080> them away<MH5080>. The first<MH7223> one<MH7223> who devoured<MH398> him was the king<MH4428> of Assyria<MH804b>, and this<MH2088> last<MH314> one<MH314> who has gnawed<MH6105c> his bones<MH6105c> is Nebuchadnezzar<MH5019> king<MH4428> of Babylon<MH894>. <a href="/jeremiah/50-18.htm">18</a>Therefore<MH3651> this<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the LORD<MH3068> of armies<MH6635>, the God<MH430> of Israel<MH3478> says<MH559>: ‘Behold<MH2009>, I am going to punish<MH6485> the king<MH4428> of Babylon<MH894> and his land<MH776>, just<MH3512c> as<MH3512c> I punished<MH6485> the king<MH4428> of Assyria<MH804b>. <a href="/jeremiah/50-19.htm">19</a>And I will bring<MH7725> Israel<MH3478> back<MH7725> to his pasture<MH5116a> and he will graze<MH7462a> on Carmel<MH3760> and Bashan<MH1316>, and his <a href="#fn">[r]</a>desire<MH5315> will be<MH7646> satisfied<MH7646> in the hill<MH2022> country<MH2022> of Ephraim<MH669> and Gilead<MH1568>. <a href="/jeremiah/50-20.htm">20</a>In those<MH1992a> days<MH3117> and at that time<MH6256>,’ declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>, ‘search<MH1245> will be made<MH1245> for the wrongdoing<MH5771> of Israel<MH3478>, but there<MH369> will<MH369> be<MH369> none<MH369>; and for the sins<MH2403b> of Judah<MH3063>, but they will not be found<MH4672>; for I will forgive<MH5545> those whom<MH834> I leave<MH7604> as<MH7604> a<MH7604> remnant<MH7604>.’ <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/50-21.htm">21</a>“Against<MH5921> the land<MH776> of <a href="#fn">[s]</a>Merathaim<MH4850>, go<MH5927> up<MH5927> against<MH5921> it, <t>And against<MH413> the inhabitants<MH3427> of <a href="#fn">[t]</a>Pekod<MH6489>. <t>Kill<MH2717c> and <a href="#fn">[u]</a>completely<MH2763a> destroy<MH2763a> them,” declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>, “And do<MH6213a> according to everything<MH3605> that I have commanded<MH6680> you. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/50-22.htm">22</a>“The noise<MH6963> of battle<MH4421> is in the land<MH776>, <t>And great<MH1419> destruction<MH7667>. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/50-23.htm">23</a>“How<MH349> the hammer<MH6360> of the whole<MH3605> earth<MH776> <t>Has been cut<MH1438> off<MH1438> and broken<MH7665>! <t>How<MH349> Babylon<MH894> has become<MH1961> <t>An object<MH8047> of<MH8047> horror<MH8047> among the nations<MH1471>! <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/50-24.htm">24</a>“I set<MH3369> a<MH3369> trap<MH3369> for you and you were also<MH1571> caught<MH3920>, Babylon<MH894>, <t>While you yourself<MH855b> were<MH3045> not aware<MH3045>; <t>You have been found<MH4672> and also<MH1571> seized<MH8610> <t>Because<MH3588> you have engaged<MH1624> in<MH1624> conflict<MH1624> with the LORD<MH3068>.” <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/50-25.htm">25</a>The LORD<MH3068> has opened<MH6605a> His armory<MH214> <t>And has brought<MH3318> out<MH3318> the weapons<MH3627> of His indignation<MH2195>, <t>For it is a work<MH4399> of the Lord<MH136> <a href="#fn">[v]</a>GOD<MH3068> of armies<MH6635> <t>In the land<MH776> of the Chaldeans<MH3778>. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/50-26.htm">26</a>Come<MH935> to her from the <a href="#fn">[w]</a>farthest<MH7093> border<MH7093>; <t>Open<MH6605a> up<MH6605a> her barns<MH3965>, <t>Pile<MH5549> her up<MH5549> like<MH3644> heaps<MH6194> of<MH6194> grain<MH6194> <t>And <a href="#fn">[x]</a>completely<MH2763a> destroy<MH2763a> her, <t>Let nothing<MH408> be left<MH7611> to her. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/50-27.htm">27</a>Put<MH2717c> all<MH3605> her bulls<MH6499> to<MH2717c> the<MH2717c> sword<MH2717c>; <t>Let them go<MH3381> down<MH3381> to the slaughter<MH2874>! <t>Woe<MH1945> be upon them, for their day<MH3117> has come<MH935>, <t>The time<MH6256> of their punishment<MH6486>. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/50-28.htm">28</a>There is a sound<MH6963> of fugitives<MH5127> and refugees<MH6412b> from the land<MH776> of Babylon<MH894>, <t>To declare<MH5046> in Zion<MH6726> the vengeance<MH5360> of the LORD<MH3068> our God<MH430>, <t>Vengeance<MH5360> for His temple<MH1964>. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/50-29.htm">29</a>“Summon<MH8085> <a href="#fn">[y]</a>many<MH7227a> against<MH413> Babylon<MH894>, <t>All<MH3605> those who <a href="#fn">[z]</a>bend<MH1869> the bow<MH7198>: Encamp<MH2583> against<MH5921> her on every<MH5439> side<MH5439>, <t>Let there be no<MH408> escape<MH6413><a href="#fn">[aa]</a>. <t>Repay<MH7999a> her according to her work<MH6467>; <t>According to all<MH3605> that she has done<MH6213a>, so do<MH6213a> to her; <t>For she has become<MH2102> arrogant<MH2102> against<MH413> the LORD<MH3068>, <t>Against<MH413> the Holy<MH6918> One<MH6918> of Israel<MH3478>. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/50-30.htm">30</a>“Therefore<MH3651> her young<MH970> men<MH970> will fall<MH5307> in her streets<MH7339>, <t>And all<MH3605> her men<MH376> of war<MH4421> will perish<MH1826a> on that day<MH3117>,” declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/50-31.htm">31</a>“Behold<MH2009>, I am against<MH413> you, <a href="#fn">[ab]</a>arrogant<MH2087> one,” <t>Declares<MH5002> the Lord<MH136> <a href="#fn">[ac]</a>GOD<MH3068> of armies<MH6635>, “For your day<MH3117> has come<MH935>, <t>The time<MH6256> <a href="#fn">[ad]</a>when I will punish<MH6485> you. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/50-32.htm">32</a>“The <a href="#fn">[ae]</a>arrogant<MH2087> one will stumble<MH3782> and fall<MH5307> <t>With no<MH369> one<MH369> to raise<MH6965> him up<MH6965>; <t>And I will set<MH3341> fire<MH784> to his cities<MH5892b>, <t>And it will devour<MH398> all<MH3605> his surroundings<MH5439>.” <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/50-33.htm">33</a>This<MH3541> is<MH3541> what<MH3541> the LORD<MH3068> of armies<MH6635> says<MH559>: “The sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478> are oppressed<MH6231>, <t>And the sons<MH1121> of Judah<MH3063> as<MH3164a> well<MH3164a>; <t>And all<MH3605> who took<MH7617> them captive<MH7617> have held<MH2388> them firmly<MH2388>, <t>They have refused<MH3985> to let<MH7971> them go<MH7971>. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/50-34.htm">34</a>“Their Redeemer<MH1350> is strong<MH2389>, the LORD<MH3068> of armies<MH6635> is His name<MH8034>; <t>He will vigorously<MH7378> plead<MH7378> their case<MH7379> <t>So<MH4616> that<MH4616> He may bring<MH7280b> rest<MH7280b> to their land<MH776>, <t>But turmoil<MH7264> to the inhabitants<MH3427> of Babylon<MH894>. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/50-35.htm">35</a>“A sword<MH2719> against<MH5921> the Chaldeans<MH3778>,” declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>, “And against<MH413> the inhabitants<MH3427> of Babylon<MH894> <t>And against<MH413> her leaders<MH8269> and her wise<MH2450> men<MH2450>! <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/50-36.htm">36</a>“A sword<MH2719> against<MH413> the oracle<MH907> priests<MH907>, and they will become<MH2973> fools<MH2973>! <t>A sword<MH2719> against<MH413> her warriors<MH1368>, and they will be <a href="#fn">[af]</a>shattered<MH2865>! <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/50-37.htm">37</a>“A sword<MH2719> against<MH413> <a href="#fn">[ag]</a>their horses<MH5483b>, against<MH413> <a href="#fn">[ah]</a>their chariots<MH7393>, <t>And against<MH413> all<MH3605> the <a href="#fn">[ai]</a>foreigners<MH6154a> who<MH834> are in the midst<MH8432> of her, <t>And they will become<MH1961> women<MH802>! <t>A sword<MH2719> against<MH413> her treasures<MH214>, and they will be plundered<MH962>! <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/50-38.htm">38</a>“A <a href="#fn">[aj]</a>drought<MH2721a> on her waters<MH4325>, and they will be dried<MH3001> up<MH3001>! <t>For it is a land<MH776> of idols<MH6456>, <t>And they go insane<MH1984b> at frightful<MH367> images<MH367>. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/50-39.htm">39</a>“Therefore<MH3651> the desert<MH6716b> creatures<MH6716b> will live<MH3427> there with the jackals<MH338>; <t>The ostriches<MH1323, 3284> also will live<MH3427> in it. <t>It will never<MH3808> again<MH5750> be inhabited<MH3427> <t>Nor lived<MH7931> in<MH7931> from generation<MH1755> to generation<MH1755>. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/50-40.htm">40</a>“As when God<MH430> overthrew<MH4114> Sodom<MH5467> <t>And Gomorrah<MH6017> with its neighbors<MH7934>,” declares<MH5002> the LORD<MH3068>, “No<MH3808> one<MH376> will live<MH3427> there<MH8033>, <t>Nor<MH3808> will <a href="#fn">[ak]</a>anyone<MH1121> of mankind<MH120> reside<MH1481a> in it. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/50-41.htm">41</a>“Behold<MH2009>, a people<MH5971a> is coming<MH935> from the north<MH6828>, <t>And a great<MH1419> nation<MH1471> and many<MH7227a> kings<MH4428> <t>Will be roused<MH5782> from the remote<MH3411> parts<MH3411> of the earth<MH776>. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/50-42.htm">42</a>“They seize<MH2388> their bow<MH7198> and javelin<MH3591>; <t>They are cruel<MH394> and have<MH7355> no<MH3808> mercy<MH7355>. <t>Their voice<MH6963> roars<MH1993> like the sea<MH3220>; <t>And they ride<MH7392> on horses<MH5483b>, <t>Drawn<MH6186a> up<MH6186a> like a man<MH376> for the battle<MH4421> <t>Against<MH5921> you, daughter<MH1323> of Babylon<MH894>. <poetry><a href="/jeremiah/50-43.htm">43</a>“The king<MH4428> of Babylon<MH894> has heard<MH8085> the report<MH8088> about them, <t>And his hands<MH3027> hang<MH7503> limp<MH7503>; <t>Distress<MH6869a> has gripped<MH2388> him, <t>Agony<MH2427> like a woman in<MH3205> childbirth<MH3205>. <a href="/jeremiah/50-44.htm">44</a>“Behold<MH2009>, one will come<MH5927> up<MH5927> like a lion<MH743b> from the thicket<MH1347b> of the Jordan<MH3383> to a perennially<MH386> watered pasture<MH5116a>; for in an instant<MH7280a> I will chase<MH7323> them away<MH4480> from it, and I will appoint<MH6485> over<MH413> it whoever<MH4310> is chosen<MH977>. For who<MH4310> is like<MH3644> Me, and who<MH4310> will summon<MH3259> Me into court?
