<h2>Mission</h2> <p>The mission of the Department of Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences in the Schools of Pharmacy and Medicine at the University of California San Francisco is to expand fundamental knowledge from discovery, translational and clinical research and to educate future scientific leaders.</p> <h3>Strategic Priority 1: Research</h3> <p>1.1: Advance discoveries in therapeutic sciences and bioengineering that improve human health by conducting fundamental research across the discovery, translational and clinical spectrum.</p> <p>1.2: Foster collaborative research within and outside the department that bridges the broad scientific expertise of our faculty.</p> <p>1.3: Serve as the hub for systems and computational pharmacology and bioengineering research on campus.</p> <p>1.4: Encourage and reward an entrepreneurial spirit among its innovative scientists.</p> <h3>Strategic Priority 2: Education</h3> <p>2.1: Train PhD students through didactic courses and research mentoring to be innovative and rigorous scientists who are prepared for traditional and emerging career opportunities.</p> <p>2.2: Be the home for PhD graduate programs that will train the next generation of leaders in pharmaceutical sciences, systems pharmacology and bioengineering, a MS program in translational medicine, and a clinical pharmacology fellowship program.</p> <p>2.3: Lead PhD graduate programs in other biomedical sciences that are critical to our mission.</p> <p>2.4: Provide opportunities for postdoctoral training in research and the soft skills needed for rewarding scientific careers.</p> <p>2.5: Expand the success of the PharmD/PhD program through leadership and research mentoring.</p> <p>2.6: Partner with the Dean to develop new post PharmD Masters programs that provide expanded career opportunities for PharmD graduates.</p> <p>2.7: Leverage our unique expertise in pharmaceutical and regulatory sciences to educate our colleagues in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries.</p> <h3>Strategic Priority 3: People</h3> <p>3.1: Foster a work environment for faculty, trainees and staff that is collegial and supportive.</p> <p>3.2: Provide mentoring for faculty, trainees and staff that supports their continued professional development.</p> <p>3.3: Recruit and retain exceptional and diverse faculty, trainees and staff.</p> <p>3.4: Make strategic changes in the department administrative structure that are responsive to the evolving needs of faculty and provide appropriate support for their continued success.</p> <h3>Strategic Priority 4: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion</h3> <p>4.1: Promote training and work environments that are inclusive and attentive to the individual needs of department members.</p> <p>4.2: Increase the diversity of our faculty and staff to better represent trainee populations and the communities that we strive to help.</p> <p>4.3: Contribute to the School of Pharmacy, campus and Graduate Division efforts to diversify the student body by actively recruiting and providing research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students from underrepresented populations.</p>
