Their collaboration on the blockbuster hit “Titanic” (1997) proved to be a game-changer for both Landau and the film industry as a whole. “Titanic” went on to become the highest-grossing film of its time and won 11 Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

Following the success of “Titanic” Landau continued to work closely with Cameron on other groundbreaking projects. Ask a dozen folks to name the movie that comes to mind when you mention her name, and you’ll probably get a dozen different movies, from her Oscar-winning performance in Michael Clayton to the archangel Gabriel in Constantine to the White Witch in Chronicles of Narnia. Some may even claim to have seen her play Mozart on stage. For me, it’s that very strange Jim Jarmusch film from 2013, Only Lovers Left Alive. It’s a vampire film filled with atmosphere, where Swinton plays “Eve” to Thomas Hiddleston’s “Adam.” It’s unusual, bizarre, eclectic, and poignant (but not biblical, I don’t think!), which sort of describes Ms. Swinton at her finest. Swinton is the very definition of a Shape Shifter. Her gender-bending roles are part of her repertoire. She asks the question, “How do we identify ourselves?” And answers through her performances—on screen, stage, or in art galleries. She belongs to the Scottish Clan Swinton that can be traced back to the 9th century, and if you have seen enough of her offbeat films, you might surmise that if you ask her what those centuries since have been like, she’ll probably fill your ears with all the hair-raising tales she herself has experienced over the last thousand years.

— contributed by Lawrence Grobel

Stacy Keach

24th Satellite Awards, 2019

Among the hundreds of soaring reviews for the acting of Stacy Keach, perhaps the most telling was the comment by director John Huston following one of his several films with him. “Stacy Keach,” Huston noted, “is not merely a star. His dominant contribution to television entertainment continues with his current key role as Matt LeBlanc’s father in the CBS hit series, Man With A Plan; his recurring role in two hit shows, Blue Bloods and CSI: New Orleans; and his 12 years as the voice of CNBC’s popular series, American Greed.

In feature films, he is teamed with John Travolta in the upcoming Gotti, the highly anticipated mafia drama in which he contends for mafia leadership with the title character portrayed by Travolta. You’ve been involved in over 300 films, but these were the ones you had to be most proud of, the ones that won the awards, the ones that will last as long as the movies last. You didn’t have to say anything, but I’ve got to tell you, Mike, it was pretty daunting sitting opposite you in that office with Nicholson, Keaton, Hanks, Hopkins, De Niro and all those others staring down. I mean, really Mike, it’s a not-so-subtle form of intimidation and one-upsmanship. One may have a movie idea to pitch, but how does one maintain composure when surrounded by Philadelphia, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Raging Bull, Annie Hall, Rocky, Terminator, Sleepless in Seattle, Hannah and Her Sisters, Amadeus, The People VS Larry Flynt, Network, Platoon, Dances with Wolves, Silence of the Lambs, Coming Home, The Thin Red Line and Apocalypse Now?

Terence Stamp

17th Satellite Awards, 2012

After working with directors Frederico Fellini and Pier Paolo Pasolini, Stamp went on to own the role of ‘General Zod’ in the 70’s “Superman” franchise.
