The boundaries of its inheritance are detailed in the Old Testament, particularly in the Book of Joshua. The land allotted to Judah was extensive and strategically important, encompassing a diverse range of geographical features.<br><br><b>Geographical Boundaries</b><br><br>The inheritance of the Tribe of Judah is described in <a href="/bsb/joshua/15.htm">Joshua 15</a>. The southern boundary began at the southern tip of the Salt Sea (Dead Sea), extending to the wilderness of Zin at the extreme south. From there, it moved up to the ascent of Akrabbim, passed through Zin, and went up to Kadesh-barnea. It then proceeded to Hezron, ascended to Addar, and turned toward Karka. The northern boundary started from the bay of the sea at the mouth of the Jordan, went up to Beth-hoglah, and passed north of Beth-arabah. It then ascended to the Stone of Bohan son of Reuben, went up to Debir from the Valley of Achor, and turned northward to Gilgal, opposite the ascent of Adummim, which is south of the valley. The boundary continued to the waters of En-shemesh and ended at En-rogel (<a href="/joshua/15-5.htm">Joshua 15:5-7</a>).<br><br>The western boundary was the coastline of the Great Sea (Mediterranean Sea). This comprehensive delineation of borders highlights the vast and varied territory that Judah occupied, which included fertile plains, rugged hills, and significant urban centers.<br><br><b>Significant Cities and Regions</b><br><br>Within these boundaries, several key cities and regions were part of Judah's inheritance. Jerusalem, although initially not fully controlled by Judah, later became the political and spiritual center of Israel under King David, who was from the tribe of Judah. Other notable cities included Hebron, a city of refuge and the burial place of the patriarchs; Bethlehem, the birthplace of King David and later Jesus Christ; and Lachish, a fortified city of strategic military importance.<br><br>The Negev, a semi-arid region, was also part of Judah's territory, providing pastureland and serving as a buffer zone against southern incursions.
