100); </script> <br> </div> <p>Τον Μάρτιο του 2015, είχαμε την ευκαιρία να συναντήσουμε στο Πεκίνο αρκετούς περιβαλλοντικούς ειδικούς από το Υπουργείο Εξωτερικών των ΗΠΑ καθώς και την αποστολή της Κίνας ( <i>η διάσημη οντότητα που διαχειρίζεται τις οθόνες PM <sub>2.5</sub> στην πρεσβεία των ΗΠΑ στο Πεκίνο</i> ).</p> <p>Μεταξύ όλων των θεμάτων που συζητήθηκαν, υπάρχει ένα για το οποίο αξίζει να γράψουμε, συγκεκριμένα το σύστημα " <i><b>nowcast</b></i> ". Αυτό το σύστημα χρησιμοποιείται από την EPA των ΗΠΑ για τη μετατροπή των ακατέργαστων μετρήσεων ρύπων, εκφρασμένων σε μg/m3 ή <i>ppb</i> , σε AQI (κλίμακα από 0 έως 500). Χρησιμοποιείται για όλες τις τιμές AQI που αναφέρονται στον ιστότοπο <a href='http://airnow.gov'>airnow.gov</a> .</p> <p>Η ιδέα πίσω από το <i>nowcast</i> είναι η αντιστάθμιση του " <i>μέσου όρου 24 ωρών</i> ", ο οποίος θα πρέπει να χρησιμοποιείται κατά τη μετατροπή των συγκεντρώσεων σε AQI. Ο λόγος για αυτόν τον μέσο όρο είναι ότι η <a href='http://airnow.gov/index.cfm?action=aqibasics.aqi'>κλίμακα AQI</a> προσδιορίζει ότι καθένα από τα Επίπεδα Ανησυχίας για την Υγεία (δηλαδή Καλό, Μέτριο,... Ανθυγιεινό...) ισχύει υπό 24ωρη έκθεση <sup><a href="#nowcast-footnote-1">[1]</a></sup> . Για παράδειγμα, όταν βλέπει κανείς ένα 188 AQI (ανθυγιεινό), πρέπει να το διαβάσει ως " <i style='color:#888;'>αν μένω έξω για 24 ώρες και το AQI είναι 188 <span style='color:#cc0033;'>κατά τη διάρκεια αυτών των 24 ωρών</span> , τότε η επίδραση στην υγεία είναι Ανθυγιεινή</i> ". Αυτό είναι πολύ διαφορετικό από το να πούμε ότι « <i style='color:#888;'>αν το AQI που αναφέρεται τώρα είναι 188, τότε η επίδραση στην υγεία είναι Ανθυγιεινή</i> ».</p> <p>Το πρόβλημα είναι ότι ο μέσος όρος 24 ωρών είναι μια <b>πολύ κακή ιδέα</b> και θα πρέπει να καταργηθεί <sup><a href="#nowcast-footnote-3">[3]</a></sup> για τουλάχιστον αυτούς τους δύο λόγους:</p> <ul> <li> <span>Πρώτον, η δυναμική της ατμοσφαιρικής ρύπανσης είναι τέτοια που ο άνεμος καθαρίζει πλήρως τον αέρα σε λιγότερο από 30 λεπτά!</span> <span>Αυτό το φαινόμενο παρατηρείται συχνά στο Πεκίνο με τους ισχυρούς βόρειους ανέμους να μπορούν να φέρουν το PM <sub>2,5</sub> AQI από περισσότερο από 300 σε λιγότερο από 50 σε λιγότερο από μία ώρα <sup><a href="#nowcast-footnote-2">[2]</a></sup> . Όταν συμβεί αυτό, κανείς δεν θέλει να περιμένει για 24 ώρες πριν μάθει ότι η ποιότητα του αέρα είναι καλή (και βγείτε έξω για μια βόλτα για να απολαύσετε τον καθαρό αέρα!)</span> <br> <br> <li> <span>Ο δεύτερος λόγος είναι όταν η ποιότητα του αέρα χειροτερεύει ξαφνικά. Μια διάσημη περίπτωση είναι η πυρκαγιά στην Ινδονησία που προκαλεί την αιθαλομίχλη της Σιγκαπούρης όταν οι άνεμοι κατευθύνονται προς τα βόρεια, υπό τις οποίες το AQI μπορεί να πάει από κάτω από 50 σε περισσότερο από 150 είναι μόλις μία ώρα. Στην πραγματικότητα, είχαμε πολλά αιτήματα από άτομα με άσθμα/ευαισθησία όταν η Σιγκαπούρη εξακολουθούσε να παρέχει μόνο 24 ώρες κατά μέσο όρο.</span> </ul> <p>Αυτό συμβαίνει για αυτούς τους λόγους που η EPA των ΗΠΑ εισήγαγε το σύστημα <i>nowcast</i> : Πρόκειται για μια εναλλακτική φόρμουλα μετατροπής που χρησιμοποιείται για να αντισταθμίσει την ανάγκη υπολογισμού μέσου όρου υπό μεταβαλλόμενες συνθήκες ποιότητας αέρα. Από <a href='http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nowcast_%28Air_Quality_Index%29'>τη Wikipedia</a> , περιγράφεται ως εξής:</p> <blockquote> <span>Το NowCast υπολογίζεται από τα πιο πρόσφατα δεδομένα παρακολούθησης 12 ωρών PM, αλλά το NowCast σταθμίζει τις πιο πρόσφατες ώρες δεδομένων περισσότερο από έναν συνηθισμένο μέσο όρο 12 ωρών όταν αλλάζουν τα επίπεδα ρύπων. Ένας από τους λόγους είναι ότι ο συντελεστής βάρους, που χρησιμοποιούσε για τον προσδιορισμό του επιπέδου της αλλαγής, έχει ένα όριο που ορίζεται στο ελάχιστο 0,5, ενώ στην πραγματικότητα, η τιμή του είναι πολύ χαμηλότερη από το 0,5 είναι πολλές περιπτώσεις.
