And she brought<MH935> him into her father’s<MH1> house<MH1004>, and when the girl’s<MH5291> father<MH1> saw<MH7200> him, he was<MH8055> glad<MH8055> to meet<MH7122> him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/19-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>His father-in-law<MH2860b>, the girl’s<MH5291> father<MH1>, prevailed<MH2388> upon him, and he remained<MH3427> with him for three<MH7969> days<MH3117>. So they ate<MH398> and drank<MH8354> and stayed<MH3885a> there<MH8033>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/19-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>Now on the fourth<MH7243> day<MH3117> they got<MH7925> up<MH7925> early<MH7925> in the morning<MH1242>, and he <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[e]</a></span>prepared<MH6965> to go<MH1980>; but the girl’s<MH5291> father<MH1> said<MH559> to his son-in-law<MH2860a>, “Strengthen<MH5582> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[f]</a></span>yourself<MH3820> with a piece<MH6595> of bread<MH3899>, and afterward<MH310> you may go<MH1980>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/19-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>So both<MH8147> of them sat<MH3427> down<MH3427> and ate<MH398> and drank<MH8354> together<MH3164a>; and the girl’s<MH5291> father<MH1> said<MH559> to the man<MH376>, “Please<MH4994> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[g]</a></span>be<MH2974> so kind<MH2974> as to spend<MH3885a> the<MH3885a> night<MH3885a>, and let your heart<MH3820> be<MH3190> cheerful<MH3190>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/19-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>However, the man<MH376> got<MH6965> up<MH6965> to go<MH1980>; but his father-in-law<MH2860b> urged<MH6484> him, and he spent<MH3885a> the<MH3885a> night<MH3885a> there<MH8033> again<MH7725>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/19-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>Now on the fifth<MH2549> day<MH3117> he got<MH7925> up<MH7925> to go<MH1980> early<MH7925> in the morning<MH1242>, but the girl’s<MH5291> father<MH1> said<MH559>, “Please<MH4994> strengthen<MH5582> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[h]</a></span>yourself<MH3824>, and wait<MH4102> until<MH5704> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[i]</a></span>late<MH5186> afternoon<MH5186, 3117>”; so both<MH8147> of them ate<MH398>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/19-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>When the man<MH376> got<MH6965> up<MH6965> to go<MH1980>, along with his concubine<MH6370> and servant<MH5288>, his father-in-law<MH2860b>, the girl’s<MH5291> father<MH1>, said<MH559> to him, “Behold<MH2009> now<MH4994>, the day<MH3117> has drawn<MH7503> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[j]</a></span>to a close<MH6150>; please<MH4994> spend<MH3885a> the<MH3885a> night<MH3885a>. Behold<MH2009>, the day<MH3117> is <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[k]</a></span>coming<MH2583> to<MH2583> an<MH2583> end<MH2583>; spend<MH3885a> the<MH3885a> night<MH3885a> here<MH6311> so that your heart<MH3824> may be<MH3190> cheerful<MH3190>. Then tomorrow<MH4279> you may arise<MH7925> early<MH7925> for your journey<MH1870> and go<MH1980> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[l]</a></span>home<MH168>.” <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/19-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>But the man<MH376> was unwilling<MH3808, 14> to spend<MH3885a> the<MH3885a> night<MH3885a>, so he got<MH6965> up<MH6965> and left<MH1980>, and came<MH935> to <i>a place</i> opposite<MH5227> Jebus<MH2982> (that is, Jerusalem<MH3389>). And with him was a pair<MH6776> of saddled<MH2280> donkeys<MH2543>; his concubine<MH6370> also was with him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/19-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>When they <i>were</i> near<MH5973> Jebus<MH2982>, the day<MH3117> was almost<MH3966> gone<MH3381>; and the servant<MH5288> said<MH559> to his master<MH113>, “Please<MH4994> come<MH1980>, and let’s turn<MH5493> aside<MH5493> into this<MH2088> city<MH5892b> of the Jebusites<MH2983> and spend<MH3885a> the<MH3885a> night<MH3885a> in it.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/19-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>However, his master<MH113> said<MH559> to him, “We will not turn<MH5493> aside<MH5493> into a city<MH5892b> of foreigners<MH5237> who<MH834> are not of the sons<MH1121> of Israel<MH3478>; instead, we will go<MH5674a> on<MH5674a> as far<MH5704> as Gibeah<MH1390>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/19-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>And he said<MH559> to his servant<MH5288>, “Come<MH1980>, and let’s approach<MH7126> one<MH259> of these places<MH4725>; and we will spend<MH3885a> the<MH3885a> night<MH3885a> in Gibeah<MH1390> or<MH176> Ramah<MH7414>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/19-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>So they passed<MH5674a> along<MH5674a> and went<MH1980> their way, and the sun<MH8121> set<MH935> on them near<MH681a> Gibeah<MH1390> which<MH834> belongs to Benjamin<MH1144>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/19-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>They turned<MH5493> aside<MH5493> there<MH8033> to enter<MH935> <i>and</i> spend<MH3885a> the<MH3885a> night<MH3885a> in Gibeah<MH1390>. When <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[m]</a></span>they entered<MH935>, <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[n]</a></span>they sat<MH3427> down<MH3427> in the public<MH7339> square<MH7339> of the city<MH5892b>, for no<MH369> one<MH376> took<MH622> them into <i>his</i> house<MH1004> to spend<MH3885a> the<MH3885a> night<MH3885a>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/19-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>Then behold<MH2009>, an old<MH2205> man<MH376> was coming<MH935> out of the field<MH7704> from his work<MH4639> at evening<MH6153>. Now the man<MH376> was from the hill<MH2022> country<MH2022> of Ephraim<MH669>, and he was <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[o]</a></span>staying<MH1481a> in Gibeah<MH1390>, but the men<MH376> of the place<MH4725> were Benjaminites<MH1145>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/19-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>And he raised<MH5375> his eyes<MH5869> and saw<MH7200> the traveler<MH376, 732> in the public<MH7339> square<MH7339> of the city<MH5892b>; and the old<MH2205> man<MH376> said<MH559>, “Where<MH575> are you going<MH1980>, and where<MH370> do you come<MH935> from?” <span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/19-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>And he said<MH559> to him, “We are passing<MH5674a> from Bethlehem<MH1035> in Judah<MH3063> to the remote<MH3411> part<MH3411> of the hill<MH2022> country<MH2022> of Ephraim<MH669>, <i>for</i> I am from there<MH8033>, and I went<MH1980> to Bethlehem<MH1035> in Judah<MH3063>. But I am <i>now</i> going<MH1980> to <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[p]</a></span>my house<MH1004>, and no<MH369> one<MH376> will take<MH622> me into his house<MH1004>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/19-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>Yet there<MH3426> is<MH3426> both<MH1571> straw<MH8401> and feed<MH4554> for our donkeys<MH2543>, and also<MH1571> bread<MH3899> and wine<MH3196> for me, and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[q]</a></span>your female<MH519> slave<MH519>, and the young<MH5288> man<MH5288> who is with your servants<MH5650>; there<MH369> is<MH369> no<MH369> lack<MH4270> of anything<MH3605, 1697>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/19-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span>Then the old<MH2205> man<MH376> said<MH559>, “Peace<MH7965> to you. Only<MH7534b> let me <i>take care of</i> all<MH3605> your needs<MH4270>; however<MH7534b>, do not spend<MH3885a> the<MH3885a> night<MH3885a> in the public<MH7339> square<MH7339>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/19-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>So he took<MH935> him into his house<MH1004> and fed<MH1101b> the donkeys<MH2543>, and they washed<MH7364> their feet<MH7272> and ate<MH398> and drank<MH8354>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/19-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>While they were <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[r]</a></span>celebrating<MH3190, 3820>, behold<MH2009>, the men<MH376> of the city<MH5892b>, certain<MH376> <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[s]</a></span>worthless<MH1100> men<MH1121>, surrounded<MH5437> the house<MH1004>, pushing<MH1849> one another at the door<MH1817>; and they spoke<MH559> to the owner<MH1167> of the house<MH1004>, the old<MH2205> man<MH376>, saying<MH559>, “Bring<MH3318> out<MH3318> the man<MH376> who<MH834> entered<MH935> your house<MH1004> that we may <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[t]</a></span>have<MH3045> relations<MH3045> with him.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/19-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>Then the man<MH376>, the owner<MH1167> of the house<MH1004>, went<MH3318> out<MH3318> to them and said<MH559> to them, “No<MH408>, my brothers<MH251>, please<MH4994> do not act<MH7489a> <i>so</i> wickedly<MH7489a>. Since<MH310, 834> this<MH2088> man<MH376> has come<MH935> into my house<MH1004>, do not commit<MH6213a> this<MH2088> vile<MH5039> sin<MH5039>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/19-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>Here<MH2009> is my virgin<MH1330> daughter<MH1323> and <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[u]</a></span>the man’s concubine<MH6370>. Please<MH4994> let me bring<MH3318> them out<MH3318>, then rape<MH6031a> them and do<MH6213a> to them <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[v]</a></span>whatever you wish<MH2896a, 5869>. But do not commit<MH6213a> this<MH2088> act<MH1697> of vile<MH5039> sin<MH5039> against this<MH2088> man<MH376>.” <span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/19-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>But the men<MH376> would<MH14> not listen<MH8085> to him. So the man<MH376> seized<MH2388> his concubine<MH6370> and brought<MH3318> <i>her</i> outside<MH2351> to them; and they <span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[w]</a></span>raped<MH3045> her and abused<MH5953a> her all<MH3605> night<MH3915> until<MH5704> morning<MH1242>, then let<MH7971> her go<MH7971> at the approach<MH5927> of dawn<MH7837>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/19-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span><span class="fn"><a href="#fn">[x]</a></span>As the day<MH1242> began to dawn<MH6437, 1242>, the woman<MH802> came<MH935> and fell<MH5307> down<MH5307> at the doorway<MH6607> of the man’s<MH376> house<MH1004> where<MH834, 8033> her master<MH113> was, until<MH5704> <i>full</i> daylight<MH216>. <p class="paragraph"><span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/19-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>When her master<MH113> got<MH6965> up<MH6965> in the morning<MH1242> and opened<MH6605a> the doors<MH1817> of the house<MH1004> and went<MH3318> out<MH3318> to go<MH1980> on his way<MH1870>, then behold<MH2009>, his concubine<MH6370> was lying<MH5307> at the doorway<MH6607> of the house<MH1004> with her hands<MH3027> on the threshold<MH5592b>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/judges/19-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>And he said<MH559> to her, “Get<MH6965> up<MH6965> and let’s go<MH1980>,” but there<MH369> was<MH369> no<MH369> answer<MH6030a>.
