beginning the homeschooling journey with my preschooler. We “do math” when we bake and cook together and I have been making handmade math games. One example is that I will draw a picture of flowers and number the petals. She will roll dice, count, and color the appropriate petal. The first one to color the picture wins. She loves this game. We use two dice now. We also use manipulatives like an abacus. There really are so many opportunities to incorporate it/talk about it in daily life/routine. I have been thinking about curriculum choice in this area, so this post is timely for me. Here is a fun Easter Season idea I like for wee ones. Label an egg carton with #s 1 – 12 on the inside. Hand your preschooler jellybeans to fill the carton with correct # of beans. Boost kidergarteners’ math skills by adding extra beans for addition facts or taking a few out for subtraction.
