For some of them are come from afar.”</span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/8-4.htm"><b>4</b></a></span>And His disciples answered Him, “From where will anyone be able to satisfy these with bread, here in this desolate place?” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/8-5.htm"><b>5</b></a></span>And He was asking them, <span class="red">“How many loaves do you have?”</span></p><p class="reg"> And they said, “Seven.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/8-6.htm"><b>6</b></a></span>And He directs the crowd to recline on the ground. And having taken the seven loaves, having given thanks, He broke <i>them</i> and kept giving <i>them</i> to His disciples, that they might set before <i>them</i>. And they set <i>it</i> before the crowd. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/8-7.htm"><b>7</b></a></span>And they had a few small fish. And having blessed them, He ordered these also to be set before <i>them</i>. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/8-8.htm"><b>8</b></a></span>And they ate and were satisfied. And they took up seven baskets of fragments over and above. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/8-9.htm"><b>9</b></a></span>And there were about four thousand. And He sent them away. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/8-10.htm"><b>10</b></a></span>And immediately having entered into the boat with His disciples, He came into the district of Dalmanutha. </p><p class="hdg">The Demand for a Sign<br /><span class="cross">(Matthew 16:1-4; Luke 12:54-56)</span></p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/8-11.htm"><b>11</b></a></span>And the Pharisees went out and began to dispute with Him, seeking from Him a sign from heaven, testing Him. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/8-12.htm"><b>12</b></a></span>And having sighed deeply in His spirit, He says, <span class="red">“Why does this generation seek a sign? Truly I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.”</span> <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/8-13.htm"><b>13</b></a></span>And having left them, having embarked again, He went away to the other side. </p><p class="hdg">The Leaven to Beware<br /><span class="cross">(Matthew 16:5-12)</span></p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/8-14.htm"><b>14</b></a></span>And they forgot to take loaves, and except one loaf, they did not have <i>any</i> with them in the boat. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/8-15.htm"><b>15</b></a></span>And He was instructing them, saying, <span class="red">“Watch out! Take heed of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.”</span> <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/8-16.htm"><b>16</b></a></span>And they were reasoning with one another because they had no loaves. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/8-17.htm"><b>17</b></a></span>And having known, He says to them, <span class="red">“Why do you reason because you have no loaves? Do you not yet perceive nor understand? Do you have your heart hardened? <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/8-18.htm"><b>18</b></a></span>‘Having eyes, do you not see? And having ears, do you not hear?’ And do you not remember? <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/8-19.htm"><b>19</b></a></span>When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many hand-baskets full of fragments did you take up?”</span></p><p class="reg"> They say to Him, “Twelve.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/8-20.htm"><b>20</b></a></span><span class="red">“And when the seven <i>were</i> to the four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments did you take up?”</span></p><p class="reg"> And they said, “Seven.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/8-21.htm"><b>21</b></a></span>And He was saying to them, <span class="red">“Do you not yet understand?”</span> </p><p class="hdg">The Blind Man at Bethsaida</p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/8-22.htm"><b>22</b></a></span>And they come to Bethsaida. And they bring to Him a blind <i>man</i> and implore Him that He might touch him. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/8-23.htm"><b>23</b></a></span>And having taken hold of the hand of the blind <i>man</i>, He led him forth out of the village, and having spit upon his eyes, having laid the hands upon him, He was asking him if you see anything. </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/8-24.htm"><b>24</b></a></span>And having looked up, he was saying, “I see the men, for I see <i>them</i> as trees walking.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/8-25.htm"><b>25</b></a></span>Then He laid the hands upon his eyes again, and he opened his eyes and was restored, and he began to see everything clearly. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/8-26.htm"><b>26</b></a></span>And He sent him to his home, saying, <span class="red">“You may not enter into the village.”</span><span class="fn"><a href="#fna" title="BYZ and TR ‘Do not go and tell anyone in the village’">a</a></span> </p><p class="hdg">Peter's Confession of Christ<br /><span class="cross">(Matthew 16:13-20; Luke 9:18-20; John 6:66-71)</span></p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/8-27.htm"><b>27</b></a></span>And Jesus and His disciples went forth into the villages of Caesarea Philippi. And on the way, He was questioning His disciples, saying to them, <span class="red">“Whom do men pronounce Me to be?”</span> </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/8-28.htm"><b>28</b></a></span>And they answered Him, saying, “John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/8-29.htm"><b>29</b></a></span>And He was questioning them, <span class="red">“But whom do you pronounce Me to be?”</span></p><p class="reg"> Peter answering, says to Him, “You are the Christ.” </p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/8-30.htm"><b>30</b></a></span>And He warned them that they should tell no one concerning Him. </p><p class="hdg">Christ's Passion Foretold<br /><span class="cross">(Matthew 16:21-23; Luke 9:21-22)</span></p><p class="reg"><span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/8-31.htm"><b>31</b></a></span>And He began to teach them that it is necessary for the Son of Man to suffer many things, and to be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and to be killed, and after three days to rise <i>again</i>. <span class="reftext"><a href="/mark/8-32.htm"><b>32</b></a></span>And He was speaking openly the word.
