Published on May 30, the report also includes a review of cancer rates and trends for men and women ages 20–49 that shows lower incidence and death rates for men than women in this age group. The report is jointly issued by NCI, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries, and the American Cancer Society.</p> <h2>Childhood Cancer Data Initiative Announced</h2> <p>The <a data-entity-substitution="canonical" data-entity-type="node" data-entity-uuid="5b30bde9-72da-4365-91f3-c64be8911450" data-mce-href="https://percussion.cancer.gov:443/Rhythmyx/assembler/render?sys_revision=13&sys_context=0&sys_authtype=0&sys_siteid=305&sys_variantid=2297&sys_contentid=1146785" href="/node/1146785" inlinetype="rxhyperlink" rxinlineslot="103" sys_contentid="1146785" sys_dependentid="1146785" sys_dependentvariantid="2297" sys_folderid sys_relationshipid="7387463" sys_siteid="305" sys_variantid="2297">Childhood Cancer Data Initiative (CCDI)</a> is a proposed investment to collect, analyze, and share data to address the burden of cancer in children, adolescents, and young adults. The initiative would support childhood cancer research and make it easier for researchers to learn from each of the approximately 16,000 children and adolescents diagnosed with cancer in the United States each year.</p> <h2>NCI Seeks Input to Help Shape CCDI</h2> <p>In preparation for the CCDI, NCI has launched <a data-mce-href="https://cancerresearchideas.cancer.gov/" href="https://cancerresearchideas.cancer.gov/">CancerResearchIdeas, an online platform for the public to submit ideas</a> on how to advance progress against childhood cancer through the sharing of data. And on July 29–31, scientists and leaders in childhood cancer from across the country will gather in Washington, DC, for a <a data-mce-href="https://events-support.com/events/NCI_Childhood_Cancer_Symposium_Webcast/page/2111" href="https://events-support.com/events/NCI_Childhood_Cancer_Symposium_Webcast/page/2111">scientific planning meeting to discuss the role that the CCDI can play</a> in improving childhood cancer research. In the video, researchers from several NCORP sites around the country talk about the importance of clinical trials to the communities they serve.</p> <h2>Canine Immunotherapy Trials Network</h2> <p>NCI’s <a data-mce-href="https://dctd.cancer.gov/" href="https://dctd.cancer.gov/">Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis (DCTD)</a> has created a web page to increase awareness of the <a data-mce-href="https://dctd.cancer.gov/NewsEvents/20190327_canine_immunotherapy.htm" href="https://dctd.cancer.gov/NewsEvents/20190327_canine_immunotherapy.htm">NCI-funded Canine Immunotherapy Trials Network</a>. The page gives a brief history of the network and provides information about canine immunotherapy trials currently underway at participating veterinary schools.</p> <h2>Prostate Cancer Multidisciplinary Clinic</h2> <p>NCI’s <a data-mce-href="https://ccr.cancer.gov/" href="https://ccr.cancer.gov/">Center for Cancer Research (CCR)</a> has a new website for its <a data-mce-href="https://ccr.cancer.gov/prostate-cancer-clinic" href="https://ccr.cancer.gov/prostate-cancer-clinic">Prostate Cancer Multidisciplinary Clinic</a>. The clinic provides prostate cancer patients with a comprehensive consultation visit to discuss their diagnosis and treatment options.</p> <h2><em>Center for Cancer Research Milestones</em></h2> <p>CCR has published a new edition of <em><a data-mce-href="https://ccr.cancer.gov/news/milestones-2019" href="https://ccr.cancer.gov/news/milestones-2019">CCR Milestones</a></em>. This annual publication highlights some of the most important and innovative research findings from CCR investigators in the last year.</p> <h2>Video—Pediatric Oncology: A Tour for New Patients</h2> <p>In this video, Travis, a patient receiving treatment through CCR’s Pediatric Oncology Branch, <a href="https://www.cancer.gov/pediatric-adult-rare-tumor/participate/participate-trial/pediatric-oncology-tour-video">leads a tour of the NIH Clinical Center</a>. This tour shows new pediatric patients some of the faces, places, and resources that will become familiar when they come to the clinical center.</p> <h2>Understanding Hormone Therapy for Prostate Cancer</h2> <p>Hormone therapy for prostate cancer can block the production or use of male sex hormones, which fuel the disease.
