The fund will provide dollar-for-dollar matching for cash donations to the cultural sector, with no minimum donation required. The Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) said only arts and heritage charities will be eligible for the fund, with about 120 small and large organisations — including museums, orchestras and arts groups — expected to benefit from it. This is because arts and heritage charities have basic accountability mechanisms, through their governing boards and public sharing of information. Groups that receive less than S$300,000 of matching grant per year will have full flexibility on how they want to use the money — for example, on operational needs and day-to-day expenses. MCCY estimates about 90 per cent of the eligible organisations fall under this category. Those that receive more than S$300,000 will have to use the funds to build sustainability for the organisations and sector, through business development or training and research. Examples of these organisations include museums, the Esplanade and the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. With a S$10 million cap per organisation, MCCY hopes this can help spread the funds across the sector to ensure small and medium groups also benefit from it. The Government has launched a S$200-million cultural matching fund (CMF) in a bid to encourage private donations towards the arts and heritage sector.</p><p>This was announced by Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong, who officially opened the Singapore Writers Festival this evening (Nov 1).</p>  <div class="left "> </div> <p>The fund will provide dollar-for-dollar matching for cash donations to the cultural sector, with no minimum donation required.</p><p>The Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) said only arts and heritage charities will be eligible for the fund, with about 120 small and large organisations — including museums, orchestras and arts groups — expected to benefit from it.</p><p>This is because arts and heritage charities have basic accountability mechanisms, through their governing boards and public sharing of information.</p><p>Groups that receive less than S$300,000 of matching grant per year will have full flexibility on how they want to use the money — for example, on operational needs and day-to-day expenses.</p><p>MCCY estimates about 90 per cent of the eligible organisations fall under this category.</p><p>Those that receive more than S$300,000 will have to use the funds to build sustainability for the organisations and sector, through business development or training and research.</p><p>Examples of these organisations include museums, the Esplanade and the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.</p><p>With a S$10 million cap per organisation, MCCY hopes this can help spread the funds across the sector to ensure small and medium groups also benefit from it.</p><p>MCCY said the CMF will match donations made from today.
