class="field-item even"><h1>Frequently Asked Questions:</h1> <p>聽</p> <p><strong>What can I do to prepare myself as a candidate for the program?</strong></p> <p>We are looking for聽professional, academic (including clinical experience) and research experience that demonstrates your interest or passion in the聽specialty for which you are applying (surgery and critical care medicine, oncology, or emergency medicine).</p> <p>If you are strongly interested in the program, we recommend applying for your California APP license聽as soon as possible.聽This process can take several months.</p> <p>聽</p> <p><strong>What is the length of the program? When does it start and finish?</strong></p> <p>The program is 12 months and runs from November 1st through October 31st, annually.</p> <p>聽</p> <p><strong>As an APP聽fellow, will I gain hands on operative experience?</strong></p> <p>Currently our fellowship programs do not include surgical first assisting.</p> <p>聽</p> <p><strong>Is there pediatric content?</strong></p> <p>Currently, our fellowships are all adult in focus. We hope to expand to pediatrics in the near future.</p> <p>聽</p> <p><strong>What national board certifications are accepted?</strong></p> <p>See the requirements for the specific fellowship you are interested in.</p> <p>聽</p> <p><strong>Do you accept out of state applicants?</strong></p> <p>Yes. We welcome those from out of state and believe it strengthens the diversity of the program.聽</p> <p>聽</p> <p><strong>What is the compensation?</strong></p> <p>Fellows are UCSF employees who receive a salary and full benefits.
