Engineered to dispense 3.5 cc per stroke, HDP is the perfect solution for applications such as body care, baby care, and haircare that require larger bottles and higher dosage capabilities.

The standout feature of HDP is its all-plastic design that eliminates the need for a metal spring, instead utilizing a metal-free spring positioned outside of the dosage chamber. This ensures product compatibility and formula integrity, while simultaneously making the pump fully recyclable within the Polypropylene (PP) plastic waste stream. To enhance sustainability further, brands can incorporate Post-Consumer Recycled Resin (PCR) blended with conventional resins.

HDP is e-commerce capable with its down-locking design, ensuring the pump remains safe and secure during transit. Designed with a twist-to-lock mechanism, it is simple to operate and does not require additional safety measures like e-clips.

HDP also delivers on shelf visibility and space optimization with a short stack height of just 15 mm, making it the shortest in the high-dose, all-plastic market. This makes it an ideal choice for the North American market.

“HDP is our first all-plastic, high-dose dispensing pump, designed with the shortest stack height. It uniquely allows brands to meet market demands for reliable shipping solutions, while supporting their sustainability goals.”

Jesse Martinez, Platform Director North America, Dispensing and Cosmetic Pumps

The modular design of HDP offers great flexibility, with two neck diameters (28 mm and 33 mm) to fit different bottle sizes. Aptar Beauty also allows for easy customization of the pump and collar with various colors and finishes to align with the unique DNA of each brand.

The HDP pump is a game-changer for brands looking for a sustainable, reliable, and customizable solution for high-dose applications, while also embracing e-commerce capabilities and environmental consciousness.

The post All-Plastic High-Dose Pump: Sustainable, E-Commerce Ready first appeared on Packaging World Insights.

CEFLEX Advances Flexible Packaging Recyclability Testing

Content Vankat

Industrial Goods

Press Releases

CEFLEX, a collaborative initiative uniting stakeholders across the flexible packaging value chain, has completed an extensive two-year recyclability testing program to drive sustainable transformation in packaging design. This initiative has produced robust data and actionable design guidance updates, propelling the industry toward a circular economy.

The comprehensive testing program focused on sorting and mechanical recycling of flexible packaging, with over 600 samples analyzed through methods such as Near-Infrared (NIR) sorting, eddy current and metal detection sorting, size and shape sorting, and advanced mechanical recyclability testing. By focusing on specific materials rather than individual packaging structures, the program delivered applicable insights to improve packaging design for enhanced recyclability.

Together with stakeholders across the value chain and partners, we set out to build transparent, comprehensive, and robust data on flexible packaging sorting and mechanical recycling. Why? So, designers, brands, and producers can accelerate more mechanically recyclable packaging designs with confidence, said Haulwen Nicholas, CEFLEX Design Testing Program Lead.

The testing initiative brought together independent laboratories, academic advisors, and subject matter experts to develop innovative methodologies for sortability and recyclability. These methodologies and the resulting data provide the foundation for updated design principles, reflected in CEFLEX’s ‘Designing for a Circular Economy’ (D4ACE) guidelines. By improving collection, sorting, and recycling rates, the updated guidelines aim to produce higher-quality recycled materials and expand their use in sustainable end markets.

This collaboration was key, as no single or small group of organizations could generate this scale of samples, data, and insights working alone. It would simply be too challenging, time-consuming, or costly. Everything we clarified or learned will be shared openly to benefit industry, standards, and legislation, added Nicholas.

The program also introduced pre-screening protocols to optimize its focus. This step allowed initial assessments of materials, determining which required full testing. This streamlined approach ensured efficiency while maintaining comprehensive coverage.

Another innovation was the adoption of an engineered base material approach for control testing. This material represents the common composition of waste flexible packaging streams (LLDPE, LDPE, HDPE), offering a more realistic and consistent baseline for recyclability analysis than traditional methods using virgin or post-consumer recyclate (PCR) samples.

Stakeholders across the value chain were critical to the program’s success. Their contributions extended beyond material supply to shaping testing parameters, participating in data reviews, and ensuring findings translated into actionable design updates. Support from UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) through the Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging (SSPP) Challenge further enabled the program’s comprehensive scope.

The results of this initiative will be openly shared to drive industry advancements in standards and legislation. These insights are pivotal in increasing the collection, sorting, and recycling of flexible packaging materials, ensuring that higher-quality recycled materials can re-enter the economy and serve a broader range of sustainable applications.

As industries continue to prioritize sustainability, the CEFLEX program provides a clear pathway for innovation and investment in recycling systems and packaging design.

The post CEFLEX Advances Flexible Packaging Recyclability Testing first appeared on Packaging World Insights.

ULMA Packaging Acquires Stake in RAMA

Content Vankat

Press Releases

Uncategorised

ULMA Packaging, a global leader in packaging technology, has taken a significant strategic step by acquiring 40% of the Italian company RAMA S.r.l., renowned for its expertise in designing and manufacturing automatic machinery and end-of-line systems for secondary and tertiary packaging. (TYO: 7911) (TOPPAN Holdings) has acquired 100% of the shares of JONGOROGOSEI Ltd (JONGOROGOSEI), a Rwanda-based provider of digital business process outsourcing (BPO) services primarily to Japanese companies.

With this acquisition, the TOPPAN Group will drive the expansion of JONGOROGOSEI’s digital BPO offshoring business in Africa while leveraging JONGOROGOSEI’s knowledge and expertise to accelerate growth of digital transformation (DX) and sustainable transformation (SX) businesses in Africa.

Background

The TOPPAN Group is driving DX and SX business creation in the growing African market. In 2023, the TOPPAN Group entered into a capital and business alliance1 with OS Trading & Investments Pte. Ltd. (OSTI), which operates a Smart Village Project focused on the farm business in Rwanda and Tanzania. TOPPAN Digital and OSTI are also collaborating with Sagri Co., Ltd., an impact startup spun out from Gifu University that aims to deliver solutions for agriculture and the environment. The three companies are conducting field trials2 focused on smart agriculture in East Africa, and TOPPAN Group staff stationed in Rwanda since 2024 are promoting creation of new businesses strongly rooted in the local region.

Located in central Africa, Rwanda uses English as one of its official languages and is advancing the development of its digital infrastructure. Through the Rwanda Digital Acceleration Project, the national government is supporting growth in the ICT field and enabling young people to acquire new skills to take into the job market. Japan, meanwhile, is supporting Rwanda’s sustainable growth as a lead donor in the areas of water, sanitation, and ICT.

Rwanda-based JONGOROGOSEI operates an IT offshoring business, providing image processing, AI annotation, and web content production services to Japanese companies. The company provides employment opportunities to local young people and enables employees to enhance their skill levels through work catering to Japanese clients.

Overview of Target Company (at the time of acquisition)

Acquired company JONGOROGOSEI Ltd
Location Remera, Gasebo, Kigali, Rwanda
Representatives Taiji Ishizuka, Chairman and Co-founder
Ayako Kasai, Managing Director and Co-founder
Business IT offshoring
Date of share acquisition January 16, 2025
Percentage of shares acquired 100%

Expected Synergies

・Expansion of digital BPO offshoring business

The offshoring of functions to China and other Asian countries has increased in recent years, but factors such as economic growth and yen depreciation are driving up personnel costs. African countries are now compelling locations for expansion of offshoring, and countries like Rwanda are particularly promising due to their focus on driving progress in the area of ICT.

JONGOROGOSEI has amassed technical skills and diverse knowledge through its digital BPO offshoring business serving Japanese companies. As part of the TOPPAN Group, JONGOROGOSEI will be able to strengthen its capabilities through technical assistance as well as enhancing the sophistication of its operations by applying technical expertise accrued in the TOPPAN Group’s focus DX business of hybrid BPO.

TOPPAN Group companies will also be able to use JONGOROGOSEI as a base for offshoring and expand JONGOROGOSEI’s digital BPO business by referring customers to the company.

The Future

The TOPPAN Group aims to grow JONGOROGOSEI’s digital BPO offshoring business at the same time as leveraging the company’s insight and know-how to accelerate expansion of DX and SX businesses in Africa. The TOPPAN Group also hopes to expand employment opportunities in Rwanda and contribute to human resource development that supports sustainable growth in the country by providing training programs for ICT skills and digital technologies.

1.
